I am recording with my USB mic it's a Blue Microphone Spark and at first it was recording fine now... It isn't so much I turned down the mic volume to 2 and even 1 and it still is recording hot and sounds distorted at points. How do I fix this problem and get the best out of my microphone?

I turned the windows control for the mic down but it appears overridden by Audition. (Is this correct?)
There has to be a master control for the USB mic input levels, right? I can't find it for the life of me... I suspect that I am going to feel plenty dumb when someone tells me how to do it--but HELP, anyway! =)
Audition doesn't control any gains or levels in external devices at all - period. No overrides, nothing.
There are two ways in general that USB devices work in this situation - they either have a driver with its own control applet or they hand control to the Windows mixer. I think your Stanton device uses the Windows mixer, and it's extremely unlikely to use the Mic input - far more likely to use the Line input, I would have thought - it won't be a mic level signal coming from it, after all.
First thing to do is to look at the setup as it is in your PC, and make sure that it appears as it is on p.8 of the manual. If you can't find those settings on your machine, chances are that there's driver software on the CD that came with it, and you'll have to install that Cakewalk stuff to make it work (you don't have to use it though - it's just the driver you want). When you've got the correct source set up, it should appear in the Windows mixer but as I said, it's probably the line input level that controls it.
It's also quite possible that the standard Windows USB PID driver will work, and that the turntable will just appear correctly - no driver required - so check that first before doing anything else. Whatever you end up doing though, it's got to appear in the control panel like it does on p.8.

I recently bought a USB Mic for use with Logic but I'm not sure how to get Logic to recognize it. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Use the audio/midi utility in your utilities folder to create an aggregate device using the mic and your usual audio interface. Than select that device in logics hardware driver pulldown menu.

I'm having the exact same issue on two different Mac Pros with three different USB based headsets. It happens consistently with every single use, after about 45 minutes or so. In fact, almost 45 minutes on the dot.

  • WRT600N USB Storage Problems Solved

For a couple of years, I've been living with all the problems others have reported with the WRT600N USB storage - lost connections, permissions problems, rebooting the router to recover access to the USB drive, etc. I solved my problems, mostly, by switching to a DLink DIR-655 router. I assume other routers in the Dlink family that support USB devices will perform similarly.
My main problem seemed to be interference from the microwave, which is in an open kitchen/keeping room arrangement in my house. However, the bottom line is that any time I lost wireless connectivity to the router, due to the microwave or unknown causes, I'd lose access to the USB drive. This meant a trip upstairs to power cycle the router and the USB drive several times a day.
With the Dlink, I still sometimes lose wireless connectivity due to the microwave or unknown causes, but not as often. Sometimes, but not always, this will cause me to lose the USB drive access. If I do need to reboot the router, I can do so from the web based interface, something that was not possible with the WRT600N, so no more trips upstairs to perform this operation. I also find have a stronger wireless signal in my work location with the Dlink.
Dlink uses a SharePort software utility to manage the USB connection and this has to be installed on all PC's that want access to the USB device. SharePort makes a USB device appear to be a local device attached directly to the computer you're using and you can attach external drives/printers/probably USB hubs. (I've experimented only with an external USB drive.) Because of this, however, only one computer can attach to the USB device at a time - not a problem for me, but you need to be aware. The software has a mechanism for requesting access to the USB device from one computer, when the device is in use by another computers. You can also set it to automatically connect to the USB device if its available, to try a reconnect if connection is lost, and to automatically run a program when the USB device connects. Dlink says SharePort will support FAT or NTFS formatted drives and there's no known limitation on the drive size.
Dlink support doesn't seem much better than here - it took about three weeks for me to get an answer on the external drive size and formatting options. There are plenty of complaints on the Dlink support site about poor support, poor performance of SharePort, etc.  So, all I can say is their router/USB device sharing has worked much better for me than my Linksys WRT600N ever worked.

Welcome to the WRT600N nightmare. The Storage Link is poorly documented, and the firmware controlling it has issues. Basically, it will corrupt file date/times stamps whenever you copy files onto the attached drive. It has also been known to be a bit flaky about maintaining the drive as a connected/mapped drive. Backup programs may have difficulty accessing the drive via Storage Link. Depending on the file format you use, you may encounter file size limitations on the Storage Link drive.
I, personally, gave up after a few days of these issues mentioned above and bought extra USB hard drives for each computer in the house rather than try and use the Storage Link as a NAS.
What O/S are you using on your computer? I can try and walk you through the setup.

I boot my machine and try to mount in Windows. And the HD does not mount!!!
So I remember that once I have a problem with "low voltage" usb ports with a cellphone. Once this HD does not have a power supply I try the back USB port and... IT WORKS!

  • Zen Micro USB connection problem solv

I've been having a major problem getting my Zen Micro to work with my Dell Dimension 2400 which I understand has been causing many people the same problem - I had various posts about this on the old forums.
To recap, the problem was that XP would detect the device but WMP0 would say that there was no device attached (even though it was visible in device manager) - the Zen MTP would also not recognise it's presence even though I had the plays-for-sure firmware installed.
After lots of searching I finally found a solution and here it is:
Run REGEDIT and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet, right click the key called ENUM and select "Permissions"
On my machine, I had a group called "Administrators" and "SYSTEM" but that's all. Click "Add" and add a new group called "Everyone" (just type it in and click "OK" to return).
Highlight the new "Everyone" group and in the lower box check the box marked "Read" - this will ensure that all users have read access to this registry hi've.
That's it - it worked for me and I'm delighted at being able to use the Zen properly now, hope this helps someone else.
Normal caveats apply, so please be careful if you make changes to the registry.

I did that as well. Heres what happens. I take the battery out. I then plug in the USB cable and reinsert the battery. The title screen comes up and then goes to the next screen which just says "Creative" then locks up. The battery charging icon in the upper right corner does not flash to indicate that it is actually charging. I will leave it in this state for the next hour or so to see if it does anything for the battery. I suppose if I had a seperate battery charger unit, the unit would work normally. This is just a guess as I have not yet tried it.
    Thanks

  • Yet another usb key problem [solved]

i recently purchased 2 apacer 2GB usb flash drives so i could transfer my files between computers with ease and speed. i have the computer, using udev rules, recognizing the drives as i put them in, and automounting them to a /mnt directory.
    couple questions about it though
    1. the drives are read only, and cannot be changed from (using chmod or chown) root
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 16384 Nov 14 11:18 usb1
    how can i fix this?

    2. i want to create links on the desktop automatically so that i could  easily access the drives when i plug them in, how can i do this?
udev rules file i created below (and by created i mean stole from the wiki)
    KERNEL=="sd[h-z]", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="usb%m", GROUP="users", OPTIONS="last_rule"

assuming that you are running KDE or Gnome there is no need to modify /mnt or create any extra folders. KDE and Gnome will handle removable devices automatically
    conditions:
    1) running dbus/hal
    2) slight changes to /etc/fstab
    usbfs                  /proc/bus/usb usbfs     noauto              0      0
    proc                   /proc         proc      defaults            0      0
    sysfs                  /sys          sysfs     noauto              0      0
upon inserting usb key system will  automatically mount it in
    /media/sdbX
where X is connected device number (if you connect more than one at a time)
in case that you close window, go to system -> storage media -> your_usb_stick
    3) user added to storage group
if you are using xfce or less then get ivman it is easy to configure and works very well.
    hope this will help
thanks, i will try it tonight, i had no power at my house last night due to a windstorm, hopefully this will work (i would ssh to my computer from here and set it up, but i guess i forgot to turn on ssh at home )

Hi to all people. I have a problem with my laptop. If i update my BIOS with versions newer tan E1763IMS.50V the laptop doesn´t boot with usb mice connected. I think i  answer this in the past but with not solution and now i ask again  thinking some people have a solution now.I have checked with differents EC versions and  BIOS E1763IMS.50V and with all versions works fine. If i update the BIOS E1763IMS.50V with other newer BIOS the problem appears. When the pc is started  and Windows 8.1 is charged i can connect the mouse and works fine too. I have checked with various mices and with all the problem appears. The only BIOS that works fine is E1763IMS.50V.
Thanks a lot for your help

I borrowed a GT70, plugged my SteelSeries Rival optical mouse and flashed with the same 50V version to the laptop. It boots & works normally.
And then I flashed to 518 version. It still boots & works normally.
So maybe your problem is not on the mouse?
Did it boot up if unplugging the mouse?

  • Macmini 2012, Mountain Lion, Logitech C600 webcam USB Mic...

    OK.
So I got the new macmini 2012(base model). Got 10.8.2 on it and a webcam Logitech C600.
Everything works fine (no additional drivers needed). The problem comes when sometimes (randomly) the mic stops working. It is a USB mic integrated in the webcam. I am thinking it has something to do when the monitor goes to sleep, but still cannot find the reason. It sometimes happen after fresh restart. When I disconnect and reconnect the webcam it goes ok. Any ideas?

BDAqua is right Hristokirev. I solved this problem myself with this issue before. Coz I also have a C600. Also if your C600 video display resolution is crap, go to quicktime player then go to movie recording and click on high recording quality on it so you can manually adjust the resolution. So yeah when I first plug this camera it didn't had a 720p quality feature, but its just that you have to manually change the settings in it itself.

  • T60 USB Mice has random disconnect, needs to be plugged back in

We have a bunch of T60's here, and we use Lenovo USB mice with them. What happens is, at any given moment, the mouse will stop working. The user just unplugs and plugs the mouse back in (Port Rep or directly into machine). This usually works, but sometimes requires the mouse to be swapped out. Then that old mouse will work somewhere else.
It's a very weird problem, and was wondering if anyone has a solution? I did some reading up and found other people with this problem, didn't find much of a solution though.
    Any help appreciated, thanks.

Try setting usb in bios - config - usb  to always on or powered and in device manager remove the tick on usb hubs allowing windows to turn them off.

do most of my own audio. For work I'll need to be able to record
    iin captivate with captivate.
In soundbooth I have 3 input record devices to choose from
Sound Booth 2.0 WDM Sound (selected -this works so I haven't
    changed it )
    Sound Booth 2.0 Direct Sound
Sound Reality ASIO Driver (shows up in my control panel under
Software and soundbooth drop down...not in my control panel Sound
and this does not work if I select it)
With the settings as I have listed above, my Blue Snowball
mic works perfectly in the vista interface and in Soundbooth. I'd
like to know I can use sound in Captivate4, but I'm very fond of
Soundbooth and I don't want to have problems there.
Before I go willy nilly uninstalling sound devices and
changing driver settings around around I'd like to get a bit of a
handle on what the problem might be and the least I need to rock
    the boat to solve it.
With the exception of the Sound Reality ASIO driver,
everything else has a purpose that I think I understand and
basically know how to use. I'd love some input from Soundbooth
users ...could I have a conflict in a setting there? I 've been
switching back and forth between vista speech to text with my
logitech headset and working on audio in soundbooth with no
problems (one or the other plugged in and enabled)
So my goal is being able to utilize audio functionality in
Captivate4 without causing problems in Soundbooth CS4....
don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire...
In summmary--- all all of my mics are recognized and appear
to work in Captivate4, but of course there is no detection of sound
if I calibrate in Captivate4 with either USB mic (although they
calibrate and record perfectly in soundbooth and vista) I can only
pic up my built in mic externally...
so what's a girl to do???
I agree with regard to Captivate3...I loved working with it
...but I could uninstall if I thought that would help ( I don't
really see that it would). I'm 100% sold on 4 even with a hiccup or
    two...
    I'll keep reading...
