Wine + WoW problem

Trying to run WoW in Linux.
Fully updated the system. Installed wine from repositories. Copied a working install of WoW from a Windows partition. Edited the config to allow opengl. The game starts, brings me to the login screen. I enter details, see the "connecting" popup and then wine crashes. This is all console output I get after typing "wine Wow.exe".

I had this very same problem, I have managed to fix it by installing an older version of the kernel alongside the cuirrent one whilst waiting for the new kernel, at which point I will remove the older version.
To do this, install kernel26-lts from the AUR.
You then need to edit your grub configuration file to include the kernel26-lts in your boot choices (alongside Arch and Arch Fallback).
I also had to install nvidia-lts because I have a nvidia graphics card.  Nvidia-lts is the older version of the driver made to work with kernel26-lts.
Hope this help
Errrr, I have a feeling that the fallback kernel _is_ kernel26-lts ... and I don't see any package named kernel26-lts in the AUR.

  • WoW problem, probably Wine's fault

    Hello everyone, this is my problem:
    Everything was normal till a week ago...
    It first started with that I couldn't see any characters ingame, players nor NPC/mobs. Even the login screen was black-ish, I could only see glows: the twisting things in the portal part of the Dark Portal, and in the character screen the enchants on my weapons, everything else was pitch black.
    When I logged in I could also only see the enchants, glows, heals, shadows from (N)PC's and so on.
    Everything else was fine... but you can't game like that.
    So I ran through an awful lot of fora and never realy found what I was searching for, so I tryed deleting my Cache, WTF and Interface folders. I ran WoW again, this time it was better, I could see the Login screen! BUT I noticed something different... But, the screen resolution was 800x600, and I also couldnt see the buildings and bridges in my sight, so I tried putting it back to 1280x1024. WoW froze. I forgot, I can't just edit my video settings. I killed WoW, put back my mods (the ApplyToForehead mod enables the use of video options ingame), and started it again. When I tried to edit my resolution, WoW froze again. I killed it, downloaded a new ApplyToForehead, no succes, I kept trying a few things but all didn't work.
    Now i'm fed up with:
    1. No buildings and bridges
    2. 800x600 resolution
    3. No sound (probs something wrong with Wine, although I didn't do nothing there :S)
    4. Less FPS than I used to have..
    I guess the problem's in wine, because it all started after the last update..
    I'm open for all suggestions, save me from this mess...
    Some of my PC specs:
    Gforce 9550 GPU
    512MB Ram
    40GB Harddisk
    1.8Ghz intel pentium 4 CPU
    (It isn't my GPU, 'cause I know WoW can run fine with it, like it did a week ago..)

    Have you upgraded your xorg ,nvidia driver.
    Try to unload all of your addons.
    Disable every hooks in Video section ingame.
    I run Arch current and wow runs ok ,but not perfect under wine.
    I'll play wow in opengl.(wine WoW.exe -opengl)
    I don't do instance and raid in linux ,just grinding.
    I had some of your problems earlier but don't rememer how i fixed it think it was when i used Cedega.

  • [SOLVED]Wow in bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor need help with patching

    Hi all.
    I have installed bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor from AUR and it's working pretty fine I must say. I still have one important issue. That is, that the cursor acts strange when holding the button pressed down, as you do when turning etc. The cursor then moves to the middle of the screen and shakes, until you release the button.
    There is a fix for this posted on the Ubuntuforums, but I don't know how to implement this in Arch. Trust me, I have tried in so many ways possible, but I don't have the knowledge to do this. Please help me, or point me in the right direction.
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … tcount=172
    I have managed to fix this problem myself. If any of you are wanting the same functionality as what i mentioned above, navigate to your mouse.c find the function update_mouse_state, and then make the changes below...
    static void update_mouse_state( HWND hwnd, Window window, int x, int y, unsigned int state, POINT *pt )
    struct x11drv_thread_data *data = x11drv_thread_data();
    char *hwgl;
    get_coords( hwnd, window, x, y, pt );
    hwgl = getenv("WINE_CURSOR");
    /* update the cursor */
    if (hwgl == NULL){
    if (data->cursor_window != window)
    data->cursor_window = window;
    wine_tsx11_lock();
    if (data->cursor) XDefineCursor( data->display, window, data->cursor );
    wine_tsx11_unlock();
    Thank you in advance.
    EDIT: To clear things out a bit. I am using 64-bit Arch.

    Thx for the reply.
    However, I don't think that one includes the right patch either. That just looks like the 32-bit version of the bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor. And I cannot install that on my system.
    When talking about cursor issues there are 2.
    1. Getting hardware cursor in OpenGL.
    2. Irritating cursor-behavior when pressing down the buttons to turn etc.
    The package you refer to solves problem #1, so does the bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor. It's problem #2 that need fixing. I would assume, since it is just a cosmetic defect, no one else has bothered before me.
    But still, it's solvable in Ubuntu, and I am kind of a perfectionist.
    EDIT: Yes, I can see now that the mouse.c is in the archive. I would be able to edit myself. But (silly question) I won't be able to run the PKGBUILD with that source, right?
    Well, you could always edit the file then re-tar/bzip it.
    The PKGBUILD wiki article states:
    Note: If you need to supply files which are not downloadable on the fly, e.g. self-made patches, you simply put those into the same directory where your PKGBUILD file is in and add the filename to this array. Any paths you add here are resolved relative to the directory where the PKGBUILD lies. Before the actual build process is started, all of the files referenced in this array will be downloaded or checked for existence, and makepkg will not proceed if any are missing.
    So basically, edit the PKGBUILD and set the source to the location of the newly bziped file you have after applying the patch. Then it should use that one instead
    But, that won't be possible on a 64-bit system, right? I can't use the 32-bit source.
    Or am I missing some piece of the puzzle here?
    I think I'm missing part of the puzzle....
    Ok, title of thread: "bin32-wine-wow-hardware-cursor"
    That makes me assume 32-bit
    Next, source file you downloaded:
    wine-wow-hardware-cursor-1.1.43-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    Again, 32-bit...
    I'm confused with what you want now

    i installed the game sof2 by wine.
    the problem is that the sound in the game is bad
    do u have solution?
    thnak u

    You can check winecfg -> Graphics to see if Direct3D Vertex Shader Support is set to hardware.  If it isn't, switch it.  Otherwise it's probably just a bug with emulating that game.
    Here's the linux gamer's howto on the game; but it looks like they didn't have much trouble with it so it probably won't be much help.
    Also if you don't mind, please don't post the same thread in multiple topics.  Thanks.

  • Wine + WoW black background, no/stretched models

    Before the new xorg update I could play World of Warcraft on my laptop just fine, as shown in the screenshot below:
    http://image.devmonkey.nl/files/1/Scrot … _scrot.png
    After the update something changed, I still can't find what I have to change but when I open WoW now it looks like this:
    http://image.devmonkey.nl/files/1/Scrot … _scrot.png
    And in-game I can't see models (only all the characters) and on some positions I see a stretched model in front of everything.
    I've already reinstalled wine and the catalyst drivers without luck.

    Hi:
    I just want to tell you that my Macbook Pro is the same as yours, at it presents that small white spots problem.
    In fact, let me tell you all, that those are not dead or stuck pixels, is a problem on the LCD itself, the pixels on that spots are lighter than the other pixels, that's why they look white, but they are not white. They are a lighter color than the other pixels. But again, those are not pixels, in fact they are a group of pixels, from 6 to 13 pixels eash one. Also you can notice like hairlines with the same issue.
    My white spots are on the left side of the screen, y 4 of them.
    Also, my screen haves particles inside.
    I will take my laptop to the apple service senter, and it doesn't matter what they say, they will have to exchange my screen.

  • Wine-WoW is not maximizing over dock and toolbar anymore

    Hi, today I ran a pacman -Syu and it updated both wine and nvidia (among the kernel and other packages). But now when I start World of Warcraft (I run it with wine) it doesn't maximize over the dock and toolbar anymore.
    I'm running fluxbox (1.1.1-1) and the following updates were installed:
    wine (1.1.5-1 -> 1.1.6-1)
    nvidia (177.80-1 -> 177.80-2)
    kernel26 (2.6.26.5-1 -> 2.6.27-2)
    FEAR runs fine through wine (it still maximizes over dock and toolbar), I have no clue what might cause this weird WoW behaviour.
    edit: seems that 1.1.6 is causing some other trouble with WoW to other users as well, so this might be wine's fault and be fixed at some point (or it might have some other reason).

    Hi,
    I had similar problems when trying to record OpenGL games with FFMpeg CLI. I use the catalyst-test drivers for my AMD HD 6870.
    You could try downloading SimpleScreenRecorder via yaourt; get both, including the lib32-simplescreenrecorder.
    There will be some conflicts, but choosing to replace some files hasn't caused any problems.
    Make sure you have both  lib32-libpulse and lib32-alsa-plugins installed (pacman).
    Once everything is in set, open SSR (SimpleScreenRecorder); set audio input to:
    - Record Microphone
    - Backend: PulseAudio
    - Source: Monitor of Built-in Audio Analog Stereo
    I chose to output as MKV ; H.264 ; MP3 @128
    Select Start Recording and fire up WoW. I was able to playback the game-play video (full screen 1920x1080) with audio.
    You may need different settings from what I have, notably the audio, but it should record in full screen mode.
    Good luck !

  • Wine -opengl problem

    Hello,
    I will try to explain my problem and hopely someone could give me some hints.
    Ive go these packages: wine 0.9.56-1, xorg-server 1.4.0.90-9,      nvidia-96xx, linux kernel 2.6.24
    My Computer prefferences are: Duron 750mhz, 512MB RAM and a gforce 400 MX graphic card
    my xorg.conf
    Back on winXP I could run World of Warcraft with about 30fps without any problem and enjoy this game,
    but now Im trying to start it on linux with "-opengl" flag on and also I did the regedit but i can run it with only like 1-8 fps.
    Is there any possible way to run it on this machine?
    Thanks for help.

    750MHz? Are you crazy? Wine has to convert a lot of functions, this takes extra CPU cycles adding on an overhead that brings a weak 750MHz CPU to its knees. I seriously recommend you get a new computer if you want to run Wow through wine. That being said their are some things you can do like running wine in its own X session and killing off processes that you don't need running in the background though with an old 750MHz Duron this still isn't going to make that much of an improvement.

  • [SOLVED] Openbox + fullscreen wine = focus problems

    Hi everyone,
    I've got this problem with Openbox: when i play a game via WINE (such as World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2) in fullscreen, the screen become darker and unresponsive after a few mouse clicks. Then if I alt+tab twice, the wine screen become active again... until i decide to click again.
    If I play in non-fullscreen windowed mode, it somehow works (WoW and Hearthstone work but GW2 windows blinks dark for like 1 seconde everytime i click).
    If I use only the keyboard, everything's fine.
    If I set winecfg to create a virtual desktop, everything's fine too.
    If I use any other window managers (i tried with xfce, fluxbox, dwm...) i have no problem so i guess is something with the way Openbox and WINE interract.
    Any idea what this could be ?

    Do you use a composition manager? Any application specific settings in rc.xml?

  • Dual Boot Win 7 & win 10 Problems?

    I am dual booting this, (Win 10 on my 2TB HDD and Win 7 on my SSD.) and now when i try to boot back to Win 7 my mouse switches off. The thing works fine in 10, and had been workign for years on 7... Anyone else seen a problem like this?
    I have tried reinstalling the mouse drivers and it isnt helping on Win 7. Unplugging and pluggung in, the mouse lights up for a split second, but then dies again. switch back to Win 10 and it works as usual. No problem at all...

    Hi RobGamez,
    Are you using USB mouse?
    If so, how about another USB port?
    If this is a USB mouse, I suggest you uninstall the USB controller in Windows 7 system and restart to check if you can get it work.
    1.Open Device Manager.
    2.Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    3.Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
    4.Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.

  • IQ524 Upgrade to win 7 problems

    Still unresolved problems with win7 upgrade and after 5 weeks of attempting to get through on the help line showing on the instructions still no results.  Now when you call the help line it says it is a private number.  What is that all about.  This stinks.  This win 7 upgrade program is a bust.  Also note that alot of vendors still do not support win 7 with updated drivers for devices including the newer HP office network printers.  Beware of the upgrade windows beast.
    I guess my last post was dropped for the message board for some reason.
    Message Edited by jimbjr on 11-21-2009 02:44 PM

    Hot off the press.  The 1-888-447-0150 is supposeldy not a good number that was printer on the win 7 upgrade package instruction sheet.  I used another number from off the HP.com web site.  They could not offer a solution either and will get back with me when they may have an answer to the problem by e-mail.  Okay.

  • [Win/CS3] Problem with tree view nodes display In Release Version of InDesign

    b [Win/CS3]
    Hi All,
    I am Facing a problem from last few days.I have a dialog on which i have a treeview ListBox.I am filling this listBox dynamically.On a Button click Event.
    My requirement is to show Some text value on the node and Index value on the back end.So When i select String1 the index1 should be Selected.
    b This Listbox is working fine ON Debug Version. But Crashing On Release Version.That seems Strange to me..........?????????
    b in DialogObserver::Update on button click event
    NodeID node = IDCGridNodeID::Create(IndexX);
    treeMgr->NodeAdded(node);
    b and in TreeviewMgr::ApplyDataToWidget
    TreeNodePtr<IDCGridNodeID> nodeID(node);
    PMString IndexNo= nodeID->GetName();
    I am going to database and retrieving string value according to that
    IndexNo.
    WCHAR Buf[200];// this contains value retrieve from database
    Then i am converting WCHAR[] to CHAR[] BY using
    size_t origsize = wcslen(Buf) + 1 ;
    const size_t newsize = 100;
    size_t convertedChars = 0;
    char nstring[newsize];
    wcstombs_s (&convertedChars, nstring, origsize, buf, _TRUNCATE);
    PMString StringToDisplay(nstring);
    //Till here its working fine
    But when i am setting this value as Node name
    style.Translate();
    setNodeName( widgetList, StringToDisplay, kIDCTVTextWidgetID );
    and function return kTrue; statement executed The application is crashing.
    With error showing
    b INdesign Encountered a problem Needs to close.
    I Am not able to find out why this is not working on Release while it is working fine on debug version..???????????????????
    Is I am missing or Made some changes For release version..????
    Thanks,

    Hi Michael,
    Thanks for your reply.
    The lines
    NodeID node = IDCGridNodeID::Create(IndexX);
    treeMgr->NodeAdded(node);
    are working fine for Both Debug N Release version.The Application Is crashing In tree view manager class as i explained.
    while it works fine without having even a single warning in debug version.
    I read the document and i find out if i want to add node in treeview i have to call
    treeMgr->NodeAdded(node);
    which will call manager
    b and in TreeviewMgr::ApplyDataToWidget
    i am getting my node name as
    TreeNodePtr<IDCGridNodeID> nodeID(node);
    PMString IndexNo= nodeID->GetName();
    I don't think that something is wrong in this but i am not sure becoz i am new in indesign development.
    for adding nodes i referred the SDK examples.I found the same code for adding.

  • WINE audio problem

    I recently migrated from ubuntu to arch (with Gnome as desktop environment), and I had a problem with wine. I run an application called dolby axon under wine which is basically a voice chat application and I have skype. The problem is that wine access the devices through ALSA and skype through pulseaudio. So if I run dolby axon under wine and then skype, skype has no audio, if I exit dolby axon skype gets the audio immediately and the same vice versa. I did not have this problem in ubuntu so I believe that there is a solution for this that I am not aware of since I am new to arch.
    My conclusion for the problem is that for some reason wine locks the audio devices used through ALSA so pulseaudio is unable to use it.
    ** EDIT **
    The problem was fixed by installing lib32-alsa-plugins

    an update on the issue, it is not only skype, any sound the system use "like playing music on chrome" is not working as long as wine is operating. and when I close wine everything works fine

  • Crazy Guild Wars/WINE/Graphics Problem

    Recently I've gotten back into Guild Wars (and subsequently dropped off the forums like a stone), but I have a very bizarre issue with it. Every so often, and I have no idea why because error reports haven't turned up anything, I get a graphics failure, the monitor turns off as if it isn't receiving a signal or one of the sync rates is too high, and a fan in my computer, presumably on the graphics card, becomes audibly louder and faster. This only happens with Guild Wars on WINE, nothing else will cause it to occur. Also, it doesn't happen at precise intervals or after a certain number of hours, it seems to be completely random. I've had it happen on load, 5 minutes in, a few hours in, and on a day off where I was just being lazy, I had ten straight hours of gameplay and no problems whatsoever. I've gone over all of my logs, and absolutely nothing is turning up to clue me into the problem.
    My computer is quite new, I purchased it this April. It has an Nvidia 9600GT graphics card, the drivers for which have been out of beta for a while now and have acted quite well with everything else, including Quake 4, ET:QW, Prey on WINE, and Mount&Blade on WINE. Previously I was using the Nvidia installer to handle the driver, but both it and the Arch package have the same problem, in case there was any doubt there.
    Any help is very much appreciated, and while the problem may not best be suited to these forums, even getting the slightest hint as to what could be going on would be great help, as I'm completely in the dark on this one.

    Launching the game with WINEDEBUG=+all wine Gw.exe causes so much debugging information to pass that it slows the entire process to a crawl. It took two full minutes to even display the GW "connecting to ArenaNet" window to appear, much less connect and complete, something which usually takes 1-3 seconds max. It would be impossible to test the game itself properly, if at all, with that option set.
    I can also confirm now that using the xorg.conf fix won't solve the problem, as 10 minutes in I had another blackout. That fix seems to be for a much older 5200 card on a CRT though, the solution for which is not going to mesh as well with a 9600 running a 22" LCD.
    It could also be an issue with the monitor now that I think of it, which is an LG 226WTY @1680x1050, but I have my doubts that it lies at the bottom of all this, as I've heard MPD stop playing when I've had it on and this problem has occured, so I think it has something to do with the system itself, be it kernel or internal hardware, more than the monitor.
    Thanks for the ideas though, too bad they didn't solve the issue.
    P.S. The more I think about it this might very well be a kernel+WINE issue, as I'm also unable to ctrl+alt+backspace out of X to the command line when the blackout occurs, which could mean the keyboard is being disabled by a kernel panic of some kind, thus causing the problem with the graphics card. Nothing has appeared in the logs though, which is odd.
