WinHelp 2000 TOC only works on primary monitor.

First time posting here, hopefully the knowledge here can
help me out.
Using RoboHelp for Word 6 (Build 099) (O/S is XP Pro), I have
created a WinHelp 2000 out put that is approximately 2.5 meg.
The problem is the TOC only works on the primary monitor, as
soon as you move the help dialog to another screen the TOC fails to
function... move it back to the primary monitor and it works again.
Any ideas?
This is a big issue for me as it supports a CADD system and
all 500 users have dual monitors, and to make it even worse I need
to roll this out in a couple of days, and I only now discovered
this quirk.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Kelly

Thank you for your reply. No other program behaves this way, even PhotoShop CS4. It is related to how the program handles OS events.
It is probably a problem with the Windows WM_GETMINMAXINFO and WM_SIZE handlers. My guess is that program stores the maximized size (and it always fills the screen at start-up) and it query to see if it is dragged to a larger screen.
Of course, this theory doesn't address the disappearing program behavior when maximized on the secondary monitor. Since I don't have another OS, I cannot check if it is Vista related or Windows related. Because of the difference in architecture, I'd be surprised if it happened on a Mac, too.

  • Mac only works with 2 monitors connected

My mac pro OSX 10.7.5 briefly had a second monitor connected via a dvi to mini adaptor. My main screen is connected via dvi. I now want to remove the second monitor but when I do, my main screen remains black; it only works if both monitors are connected. I have tried rebooting, switching display ports, rebooting with no displays, the rebooting again, switching mirroring on and off, but nothing seems to work. The second monitor does not even need a power source - it seems that the graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB) is stuck in dual display mode. I have also removed the com.apple.windowserver.plist from preferences, but no joy. Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Mark.

My guess is your setup is wrong. On my 5.1 system, I get sound from all the speakers, including the rear ones.
Open the Quicktime control panel, and click the Audio tab. Make sure the "Channels" pulldown matches your current speaker setup.
Also, in the "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel, on the "Volume" tab, click the "Advanced" button under "Speaker Settings". Make sure the Speaker setup pulldown matches your current speaker setup.

  • 600 only works on external monitor

I have tried 3 different screens, 2 different inverters, and still nothing.  But I have noticed that the little switch at the side, the head is missing and there are 3 prongs sticking up.  - Does anyone know what way these should be wired up?  If i connect the 2 nearest to me together, the machine goes into standby.  But if I connect the 2 farthest away it doesn't make any difference.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I have tried 2 different bases as well, so it must be something that I am doing wrong?
    one is 2645-450.
the other is a 2645 but the numbers have been cut off.
    Thanks
    Rick

I believe that the switch you are talking about is the lid switch, mounted to what's referred to as the Sub Card:
    http://www.kawakami-ca.com/ibm_600x/sub_card/
As you have found out, that switch is what puts the system into standby or hibernation when the lid is closed. According to the picture on my site, when the Sub Card is properly mounted to the base and you're sitting in front of the laptop, the two pins closest to you would be the "normally open" contacts. Those should be left disconnected from each other when operating the system, as you found when you shorted them together the laptop went into standby. The two furthest away from you are the "normally closed" contacts. Those should be connected together. Whether or not that actually controls the backlight, I'm not sure, but that's the way the system would be if the switch was operational.
Once those pins ("center" and "rear") are connected together, make sure that the external monitor is disconnected and then power up the system. When the external monitor is detected at power up, the system may only activate that display; the LCD would be left off. In such cases you can press the Fn+F7 key combination repeatedly and that should cycle the display between the LCD and external monitor.
With three screens and 2 inverters, I'd imagine that one combination of those would be functional, but if you can't accurately determine which ones are working properly, then it's hard to say what might be the problem.

  • ACS External Windows Authentication: Pre-Windows 2000 name only works

Hello. I have attempted to map ACS to Windows AD 2003 as an External Database. That works, but only if I authenticate using the Pre-Windows 2000 name (sometimes called the "down-level" name).
If I use the Windows 2003 login name, I get a 529 error in the event viewer, stating the username/password is incorrect. This error appears on the Windows 2003 SP1 server running ACS.
Curiously, if I authenticate using the down-level name, the successful event shows the same authentication package (MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0) and "Workstation" and "Login Process" name (CISCO).
I cannot determine if this is an ACS or Windows problem. Any one have a clue?

    A Pre-Windows2000 name: [email protected]
Interestingly, the down-level name will authenticate, but the "up-level" name will not.

  • Strange issue with external monitor, only working when external speakers plugged in (using Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor)

Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap Chinese knockoff adaptor).
To start - I plugged the monitor in with the thunderbolt adaptor, and it powers up and works fine. However, there is a nasty buzz coming from the speakers. I did some research and it looks like a simple ground loop issue. I did a bit of troubleshooting, and this is where things get weird.
What I found is - If I unplug the MBox, the monitor loses signal from the computer (displaying ‘No Signal Detected!’). Further, if I keep the MBox plugged in, however unplug both the cables from the MBox to the speakers, the monitor loses signal. It doesn’t matter if the speakers are turned off, however they need to be plugged in (or the monitor loses signal). Weirder still, I can unplug the MBox, however the monitor will work if I plug in the speakers through my macs headphone jack.
Simply put, the monitor only works if there is a direct connection between the computer, the speakers, and the power source.  What is going on here? Is the monitor grounding through the computer port, to the speakers (I don’t know how this works, is this possible?). Could it somehow be the cheap VGA adaptor I am using?
    Some other information:
    - Everything is plugged into the same multi-box for power. I have tried plugging things into separate sources, and the result is the same.
    - If I unplug the thunderbolt adaptor, then the speaker noise disappears straight away.
    - The ground noise doesn’t appear in my headphones, which are plugged into the MBox.
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?

Well, I went back into Best Buy to test on 3 other laptops (2 Asus, and their floor model for this Sony). It seems to be doing the same problem so at least I was able to rule out broken hardware issue on my particular laptop.
Here's what I did to test:
Since I couldn't really install Adobe Premiere on their machines, I used the DVIO software (http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) and a 5 min clip I captured.  I transferred onto their machines, hooked up my Sony D8, and attempted to play the video.  It would play for 15 seconds and then stop and jitter with a loud noise (like it does on my laptop).  I even tried changing each machine's firewire driver to the legacy one and same results.  I pulled a brand new 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable off their shelf and still the same problem.
I think I've nailed it down to Win7x64 bit Home Edition not playing nice with Firewire driver.  Very annoying.  I can't find any concrete evidence of this from other users on any of the forums that have my particular problem, but from my own testing, it's all I can conclude.
I have 2 other things I can try:
    1.  Opening the laptop and looking at the firewire to maybe find appropriate driver (ugh, I don't want to have to open this thing up).
    2.  Upgrading to Win7x64bit Pro and possibly testing with XP on the new MS Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/).  I can't do it with my Home edition apparantly.
Who needs to view video on an external TV anyways....sheeesh...(scarcasm).

  • GB chooses to open on secondary monitor, not the primary monitor?  It was working fine, then started this.

New Mac Mini running new Garageband.  2 monitors.  Working fine, however, all of a sudden GB started to choose to open and not be able to move from secondary monitor.  What may have changed and how can I rectify this.  I would like GB to open on the primary.  All of applications open on primary monitor.

There is some confusing information in your post.  You say iMac g5 & 10.6.6.  The iMac g5 cannot run 10.6.6.  10.6.6 requires an intel machine.
    I'll assume iMac g5.
There have been many reports of capacitor problems with these machines.  There are capacitor replacement kits if you want to experiment with a soldering iron.
You could try a new battery.
Since you are having succes running the machine, I'd say it is a hardware problem. I've read a little on the capacitor problem.  Seems to fit what I have heard.

    Seems rather inexpensive.

  • Monitor only works in safe mode

My monitor only works in safe mode.  when restart in normal mode the monitor screen is blank.  when I start in safe mode the monitor works fine.

Is there a reason you have not entered the menu as I have suggested and reset the monitor to factory default?
Your old school monitor needs a kick in the pants to remind it that it is plug n' play. That is essentially what the reset will do. It won't hurt anything.
Was the TV you had connected to the PC before using the monitor an HDTV one with 1080p resolution?
In order to reinstall the graphics driver you will need to be logged in as a user with elevated (admin) priveleges. A standard user cannot install drivers or programs. You do not heed to reinstall RAID drivers.
You might need to consider replacing the monitor with a modern LCD display. They are quite inexpensive these days and can evven be found in the second hand market.
If you don't want to do that then you can remove the video card and then connect the monitor VGA cable to the video output port on the rear of the desktop PC. Removing the card will enable the onboard video.

  • Can a monitor have a hardware problem so it only work on single resolution?

I have an Apple MultipleScan 1705 connected to a PowerMac 7100. No matters what version of MacOS I use, no matters if I install updated Apple Displays SOftware, it will only work at 832x624 , any other resolution, lower or higher, will mess the image -it will be distorted an you will "see the refresh"-.
I'm starting to think it is a monitor problem, but not sure. Any ideas?

There is only one combination of Red, Green, Blue, HSync, and VSync that will run a high quality monitor.
When you change the switches on your adapter, most of what you are doing is changing the wiring of pins 4, 7, and 10. These pins, and their connections with wires and diodes, are read by the Mac at startup to tell what family of genuine Apple displays is attached. (The code is like a promise that a certain display is being used.)
The Mac uses this information, read at startup, to decide what resolutions and refresh rate are valid for the display you said is attached. No others are provided by your Mac, because they might damage your display.
You have been focusing on the display as the likely source of the problem. I doubt that the display is the problem. The display is a slave. It takes the rows of dots given by the computer and attempts to paint them on the screen, and adjusts the frequency to match what the computer is sending if it can, and otherwise goes blank.
If you take that same "adapter" and cable, and connect it to the Apple display, I expect you will get similar good results.

  • Monitors only work in VGA

Our office recently purchased a dual 2GHz G5 with nVIDIA 6600LE 128MB video card installed. We also purchased Princeton Graphics LCD1950 monitors to use with it. The monitors have both DVI-D and VGA inputs. When I connect the monitors to the G5 using the DVI cables, the screen comes up "NO SIGNAL" and goes into standby mode. If I connect them using the VGA cable and DVI to VGA adapter that came with the G5, it works. The monitors supposedly can be switched to either analog or digital via the setup menu. When the monitor is connected using the VGA cable, the digital mode is not available. Can anyone offer insight as to why the DVI cable won't work?

It may not be relevant, but its close so I'll post it. I have a dual 1.8 PowerMac G5 with a Princeton Graphics 17" display with both analog and dvi inputs. Has worked fine until today when I got the computer back from Apple after they replaced the main logic board. It worked fine on the analog display at the store, but when I got it home it would not work using the DVI connection I normally use. The analog worked ok, however.
After 3 hours with 2 different Applecare techs, they were sending me a new video card (I had shown that the display wasn't the problem by testing it in DVI mode on my Mac Mini). After I hung up I thought that maybe the Apple repair techs hadn't fully set up the new main board. So started by resetting the PRAM. Lo and behold, the DVI display is working fine. So if the new monitors also have problems, maybe its an incompletely setup computer instead of bad monitors.

  • Dual monitor setup - primary monitor blank upon startup

    Hello -
This has been vexing me for some time now. I've seen hints of this issue from other people but never the exact same circumstances and never do I see a definitive answer.
I have a dual monitor arrangement on my 8 core Clovertown (first generation) Mac Pro. After shutting the machine down, when I start it back up, the primary monitor almost always flickers very quickly then goes black while the machine boots, and the secondary monitor kicks on. Note - this never happens on restarts or waking up from sleep mode; just after starting up after completely shutting the machine down.
    Exact specs are:
The afore mentioned first-gen 8 core Mac Pro (spring 2007), combined with an ATI 4870 graphics card, with the 24 inch Cinema Display LED serving as primary monitor (the one that's useless upon starting up), and my older 23 inch LCD as secondary display. Also worth noting - I'm aware the ATI 4870 is not officially supported in this generation of Mac Pro, however there were so many reports on the web of it working that I did the swap-out myself, and ended up getting the 24 inch LED since I then had the Mini Displayport on the back of my machine.
The only way I manage to get my machine working after starting back up is to restart it several times - literally up to over a dozen attempts sometimes, before the primary display finally does start functioning and I can begin working as normal.
Because there were many reports of the ATI 4870 working fine with this Mac Pro and word of other flickering monitor problems, I thought I'd ask despite the graphics card not being officially supported. Any ideas on how to remedy this problem so I don't have to keep restarting over and over before both my screens eventually work?
    Thank you in advance.

So I have the same issue. I run dual 23" Apple Cinema Displays. For a while now the main monitor has had trouble waking up. I have also been unable to put the Display to sleep from the power button on the display. The other monitor seems to go to sleep fine. So when I get it to sleep and it won't start up, I usually restart and everything is fine. Today I can't get that monitor to come up at all. In addition, I have swapped ports on the video card switching the order of the monitors, no change. I also checked in my System Preferences>Display, and the system is still recognizing two monitors. So I am guessing my issue is related to the Display itself. What can be done at this point?
