Running sysprep
Please advise , why I can't capture the windows XP machine
Robert

Hi,
Go to C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Panther, there are two logs which are setupact.log and setuperr.log. Take a look at them, maybe you could find why the error 0×80004005 is thrown out.

  • How can I determine wasted HD file useage, HD full, Image Capture Manual?

I am a switcher. I have started using an SLR camera. I tried using imovie and iDVD and failed but now have more file room tied up. I deleted all but an DVD movie from stills and digital cam quicktime movies. I do not have a Handycam typecamera yet, but that is why I bought Iphoto 6. Have young grandchildren.
Big problem. Error came up that my hd was dangerously full . I began deleting unused programs I can add later.
I have a G5 with 160HD internal and an external LaCie which I have been using for .Backup. Having trouble reseting the timing on how frequently .Backup does its thing. So basically end up turning it off every few minutes.
Now...I am trying to learn more detailed use of Image Capture and the Apple bundled Graphic Converter. I do not see any pdf manual anywhere for these.
    1. Can anyone direct me to manuals on these so I can stop duplicating all my files.
    2. How can I see where my big file hogs are , especially duplicate files or even applications. I have PHotoshop CS2 in my computer (highest order of files) and in Applications in Rheta( my Home folder). If I delete it from the RhetaComputer level will it also disappear from my Applications?
I have recently upgraded to Tiger using the method where it leaves a copy of the previous system to find internet settings etc. I still had to delete and reinstall most applications, printer, scanner, Photoshop etc. afte Apple tech told me insisted I didn't need a clean install. Is this hogging space?
    3. I found a book in the Missing Manual series on Apple Scripts. Which finds duplicate files, etc. It looked like a great way to keep organized. But it will have a learning curve. Would you recommend I get it.
    4. I would like any suggestions on how to set up my computer (add a bigger internal drive), add a similar sized external hard drive for all old IPHOTO and Photoshop files, add a 300 gigabyte or so external hard drive for image storeage. and keep using .Mac Backup, or switch to a third party like ? easy to use for someone who doesn't know Unix or Apple script yet.
5.Take computer in to CompUSA or a local Apple consultant and sales store, in San Diego, it is Cry Wolf Consulting, buy the hard drives, have them set up the backup and routine maintenance.
    6. I had a tech offer to spend 4-5 hours at $100 an hour to help me. I cannot afford. Want to get this fixed before crashes.
Please refer me to any Apple articles on full hard drives, using Image Capture to burn VCDs for non Apple users.
I have books, but when sitting here, overwhelmed. Any help or refer to other postings appreciated. thanks. Drowning in full desktoppp clutter, dulicate files, no way to separate my originals from my edits. I have CD and DVD burned originals, but how do you keep them in IPHOTO or Photoshop file name system. A good reference here . I have struggled with iphoto vs Photoshop since switching.

How can I see where my big file hogs are , especially duplicate files or even applications. I have PHotoshop CS2 in my computer (highest order of files) and in Applications in Rheta( my Home folder). If I delete it from the RhetaComputer level will it also disappear from my Applications?
You can use WhatSize to find where the space on your hard disk is being used. If an item is present in both the Applications folder on your hard disk and the folder in your home folder, you can delete one of the copies without deleting the other one.

  • No Preferences with Image Capture

No Preferences option when Image Capture app is running. I can't believe it, but is this new in SL? If so why?
I have discovered the Prefs for AutoImporter. Is that all there are?
I am ham-strung by my Canon SX200 failing to be recognised as a USB device so I can't see it to strip out the image files in Finder, nor will its images show up in Picasa. When the camera appears in Image Capture, the chance to modify what app is opened and setting this to AutoImporter dumps the pics into a folder. Can this be (simply) modded to run AutoImp AND Picasa?

First: no Prefs in Image Capture, There are Prefs in AutoImporter, It seems odd that the more user-facing IC has none.
The preferences are there, just not in a separate preferences window like with many other apps. When you attach a camera with firmware or add-on software compatible with Mac OS X, it appears in the "Devices" list of Image Capture. Click on it in the devices list & you should get a resizable view of its images on the right & on the left, below the Devices list, a +device settings+ pane with the same name as in the devices list. The +per camera+ preferences are there, allowing you to select an app (or no app) to automatically open when that camera is connected, whether or not to share the camera over the local network, & if the images in the camera should be automatically deleted after import. If you don't see the device settings pane, click on the icon at the bottom of the Devices list to expose it.
If you are concerned about accidentally wiping the camera's images, do not select the preference "Delete After Import." This setting is retained, so unless you select the delete option again, that won't happen.
If you have already selected some other app to automatically open, the next time you connect the camera, launch Image Capture manually & change that preference to the desired app (or to no app). That preference will be retained as well. You can't set more than one app to launch automatically, though. This would result in both apps trying to manage the camera's images at the same time, leading to a crash or an error in one or both of them, depending on their design.
Of course, you can also set any available preferences of the app you have chosen to handle the images. This will vary depending on that apps capabilities & design as well. That's why you can't set AutoImporter's preferences from within Image Capture -- it is a separate app that just like its name suggests, only automatically imports the images into a pre-designated folder hierarchy.
For whatever app you choose to automatically open, you also get whatever 'per connection' options that app supports. For instance, both Image Capture & Preview have the same resizable view of the images, & the same row of options along the bottom of that. Until you click one of the two import buttons, nothing happens to the images in the camera, & they are deleted on import only if that preference is set.
If you think about it, this is a very logical & flexible implementation. You have +per device+ preferences conveniently centralized in one app, but +per application+ preferences & +per connection+ options localized in each application, since they may vary greatly from app to app. This gives you many more options than if everything was crammed into Image Capture.
    Does that make sense?

  • How can I turn off the preview (overview) automatically executed when I launch Image Capture?

I love using Image Capture, but every time I launch it, it automatically does a previes of my scanner's flatbed.  Most of the time, I don't use the flatbed.  I use the feeder to scan multiple pages.
My question is this:  Is there any way to turn off the automatic preview (overview) that Image Capture executes when it's launched?
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!

    Not a direct answer.
    From Image Capture Help:
Scan pages with a document-feeding scanner
When you scan a document with a document-feeding scanner, the same settings are used for all the pages in the feeder. If your pages need different settings (for example, some are grayscale and some are color), separate them into different groups.
Before you begin these steps, you need to open your scanner. For instructions, see one of these help topics:
    Scan an image
Scan an image with Image Capture
    Scan an image with Preview
Place the pages in the scanner’s document feeder.
Turn on the Use Document Feeder option, if it’s present.
Set scanning options. You may need to click Show Details to see all the available options. Here are some of the options you can set. The options available to you depend on the scanner you’re using. Some options aren’t available on all scanners, and some scanners may have more options.
To choose the type of image being scanned, use the Kind pop-up menu.Choose Text for black-and-white images with high contrast, such as text. Choose Black & White for grayscale images. Choose Color for color images.
To scan both sides of a page, select Duplex.
To choose a size for the scanned image, use the Size pop-up menu.
To choose where to save the scanned images, use the Scan To pop-up menu.If you choose a folder, the images are stored in that folder. If you choose an app, the images are opened with that app.
To adjust the colors or exposure of the scanned image, choose Manual from the Image Correction pop-up menu, and adjust the controls. If you don’t see the image correction controls, scroll down or make the Scanner window taller.
Click Scan. The scanner scans the pages one by one.

  • How to automatically crop images in Image Capture for import into iPhoto?

On my PowerBook G4 / Mac OS X 10.4.2, I'm using the Image Capture 3.0.3 application to capture images coming from scanning photographs with a CanoScan 8400F.
Can I get the Image Capture application to automatically set the crop frame on the overview? Other applications do that, but with Image Capture it seems that after I do the Overview (preview), I have to manually set the crop frame by clicking and dragging, before I can click the Scan button to do the scan?
P.S. It seems that iPhoto does not handle scanning, and you do have to use a different application to scan photos before importing them into iPhoto.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

If you hide the details pane Image Capture will scan immediately to a specified folder. Other way is to open printers and faxing from the system preferences , select the scanning tab of your printer and click Open scanner. It will start scanning immediately without opening Image Capture. To set other software as default you should open Image Capture, select your printer/scanner and click the scanner buttons. It will then let you chose which program should be launched when you scan a document.

  • Image Capture won't scan: Canon MP 610

    Hello,
I experience a strange bug in Image Capture which I use together with my Canon MP610. When I put a document on the scanner Image Capture will show a preview and then scan the document. This works fine.
Sometimes I need to make some manual corrections by using the button "show details" and then resize the scan area after the program has analyzed the picture. After I made the corrections I hit the "Scan" button but Image Capture will return with the message "Scanner has reported an error" and "An error occurred during scanning".
I first thought it might be a driver related problem as I recently updated the drivers from the Canon site. Before I installed the Canon drivers and used the OSX drivers all worked fine.
So I removed all drivers from Canon and hoped the Mac would use the old drivers again. That didn't work either as the system couldn't seem to find any usable driver anymore. I reinstalled the Canon drivers and all works well again except for the Image Capture program.
As long as I don't use the "Show Details" button the scanner works just fine. But as soon as I make some manual corrections the scanner error message pops up and the scanner won't scan the adjusted preview.
So I know for sure the Mac sees the scanner and can control it as the scanner does deliver the images to the folder I specify, but I can't do any manual corrections.
I already deleted the file "com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist" but that didn't solve the problem. It appears to be a bug in the program itself or a conflict between the app and the drivers from Canon. How can I revert back to the drivers that my Mac used before I installed the Canon drivers?
    Thanks!

Thanks PAHU that were a lot of drivers for sure in your link and I installed those. Unfortunately, nor the driver package nor the ICA driver did solve my problem. I'm beginning to think it might just be a bug within Image Capture, although Image Capture is stating the scanner is reporting an error. Strange thing is that Image Capture will work fine as long as I hide the details pane.
It seems to be an isolated problem too as I can't find any other subject on this on the net. I see more people having trouble to scan images with Image Capture but that's mostly related to not selecting the right part of the preview. I will see if I can reinstall Image Capture from the OSX dvd.

  • Image capture no longer recognizes .jpg files

I have HV40 Canon and mini SD. I've been importing jpeg images for years. Now, all of a sudden, iPhoto (image capture) cannot read those file. This may have something to do with the latest updates which I installed last night. Now, even photos successfully imported just before the update, do not import. I get import error "Import error (-9937)" from Image Capture. One of these updates is screwing up my capture. OS X Yosemite, 10.10.3, MacBook Pro mid 2012. Thanks!

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect the camera and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
Also, use a card reader to manually upload the files from the memory card to a folder on the Desktop. Once you have the files safely on the hard drive use the camera to reformat the memory card.  Take some test shots and see if iPhoto will recognize the card.

  • After 3.1.3 iphoto & image capture don't detect iphone as camera device.

I have installed the recent update 3.1.3 on my iphone 3GS.
My iphoto (or image capture) no longer detects the iphone as a camera...
and will not automatically bring up the import option.
I can't get photos and video from the iphone to the computer...
The iphone seems to sync with itunes without any problem... it's just the image capture.
I have a laptop (running OS X 10.5.8) and a imac desktop... neither of them detact the iphone when it is connected for image capture... iphoto is set to open automatically when a camera is detected (i tried my other dedicated digital camera and it works fine)... even if I manually open iphoto - it simply won't import... I have restarted everything... I have swapped the connection cords...
it has to be a bug in the update... everything was working fine before the update.
    please help...

I found another thread which solved the problem for me...
should have looked harder before posting:

  • Image Capture won't scan to Photoshop

I just downloaded Lion (10.7.2) and everything works fine, except ...
When scanning through Image Capture, it won't open the scanned images in Photoshop (CS4) when set to do so. It will open in any other program I try (Preview, Illustrator, etc ...) but not Photoshop.
When I scan an image with PS set as the "scan to" app, Photoshop will open, but it doesn't open the image.  Instead, Image Capture opens a "scan results" dialog box with the name of the image and a magnifying glass icon that shows me that the image has been saved in my "pictures" folder.  I'm clearly choosing the PS app, and not the PS folder in Image Capture, but for some reason it doesn't know what to do with the image when it gets there. Again, the PS app OPENS, but the image doesn't. It just dumps it in the "pictures" folder.
By all accounts, Photoshop seems to be working properly. I can click on a scanned image and open it with Photoshop manually. Scanned images just won't open in PS automatically through Image Capture like they used to before I upgraded to Lion.
I tried rebooting and repairing permissions just for the heck of it, but those did nothing.  Image Capture has no problem recognizing my scanner (Brother MFC 6490CW) and I made sure to download the latest driver for it.
I'm really at a loss as to why this is occuring.  If anyone has a theory, I'd love to hear it.  Scanning stuff into Photoshop is my job basically, so this is driving me crazy.

I can duplicate that behaviour, best file it as a Bug with Apple if you have a Developer ID ?
    http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
I will file it also and see what response I get.
BR filed: I note that in testing this if I set the Import To selector to Preview, Mail and iPhoto it behaves as expected so it's possible this is an Adobe issue not an Apple one. Might be worth looking in their support forums to see if anyone elase has this and has found a work-around.

  • Lost photos due to Image Capture Import Error

Hi.. I lost my hundreds of precious photos taken during my vacation during the import process using Image Capture.
I took hundreds of photos in my iphone 5s during my vacation. I came back and haven't started the iphone backup yet which was my first mistake.  I then used Image Capture in my MacBook Pro to transfer the photos from 5s camera roll to a folder in my macbook.  I checked the option "Delete After Import" which was my second mistake!
During the transfer, it successfully transferred some of the photos but over half of them were not.  There was errors after the import process so those error out pictures were not found neither in my Macbook nor in my iphone.
I tried different recovery tool to scan my iphone or my macbook but still no luck.  Can you one of you give me some help on this?  What else can be done to recover the lost picture.  A million million thanks to you all in advance!

Same thing happened to me. I tried using iPhoto to back up over 8,000 photos. Unfortunately, I kept getting an error at around 3,000 and had to start over several times. After restarting my macbook, I was able to get further but after around 1,000 to go, the error popped up again! Hours! So I chose Image capture to get everything. I too selected 'delete after copying' to avoid having to delete 8k pics manually. After it was done, I was alerted that some photos could not be copied. When I checked the folder, only 4k pics were there! Where's the other 4k? On top of that, my phone which is over capacity still shows over capacity and has about 600 files with missing icons on them. Not sure what to do. Curious if a restoration of the phone will bring it all back.

  • Can I use Image Capture to take a picture using a Canon EOS 10D?

Normally I use a card reader to download digital photos, but today I hooked my camera directly to my iMac. I then noticed the "Take Picture" button, so I tried to use it to take a picture with my Canon EOS 10D. Image Capture didn't refuse, it just showed the 'cogwheel' animated cursor and got stuck. What does this mean - is it that this particular camera won't work or that there is something wrong with the setup? I have other digital cameras, but I don't want to work all this out by experiment alone - how can I find out more about how this feature of IC works and what exactly is going on when I press "Take Picture"? There is absolutely no technical info in the Help files.

The Help on Image Capture has the following:
Many cameras let you take a picture using Image Capture when the camera is connected to your computer.
    To take a picture:
Connect your camera and open Image Capture.
    Click Download Some.
    Click Take Picture.
The camera snaps a picture, which then appears in the window.
If you don’t see the Take Picture icon, choose View > Customize Toolbar, and drag the Take Picture icon to the toolbar.
If the Take Picture icon is dimmed, your camera doesn’t support this feature.
As the option is available to you, your camera supports +Tethered Shooting+. If it’s not working check your camera’s manual to see do you need this enabled on your camera.

  • Trouble Printing PDF's scanned with Image Capture

OK this is a strange problem.  I have Macbook Pro and a Lexmark E230 laser printer which prints everything out just fine in safari, word, pages, numbers - anything except PDF's that are specifially scanned with the Image Capture application.
I printed four PDF's that were made from different sources, some just assembled JPEGs, one that was text printed from Pages, and another instruction manual randomly downloaded from the internet.  All printed fine.
My wife and I scan a lot for our home business and any PDF that we have scanned using Image Capture prints only the first page, then hangs, and then the rest of the document does not print.  If I try to print the second or other pages manually, I get an error printed on the page saying :
    ERROR: limitcheck
    OFFENDING COMMAND: image
    STACK:
    And the image partially prints.
I am aware of all driver issues, have tried using old drivers, completely reset the print system using the OPTION and ( - ) key in the printer system prefs.  I have also used the most up to date drivers, nothing seems to change this.  I am also aware of a printers limitations as far as using images or PDFs with a lot of memory.
The thing that makes me confused is that this all seemed to work perfectly before (in Lion) and even during the inital stages of Mountain Lion.  At some point (this is on my wife's computer), I'm not sure when the issues started exactly, I was unable to print PDFs scanned with Image Capture properly.
This used to work, now it doesn't.  Printer hasn't changed, types of documents haven't changed.  Any ideas?
    Thanks so much,
    Jim

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, bubblebanium!
I have experienced your problem on several occasions and found the culprit to be a corrupt font. Try selecting everything in the document and changing it to a font that you are certain prints. If the problem persists, try copying everything and paste it into a new document. If your document is several pages, try printing one page to hone in on the problem.
If the problem still persists, does your document have bullet items? If yes, and the bulleted items were created with the automatic bullet feature, then the problem may be the default font used for that feature (most likely the Symbol font).
To change to a different font, go to the Format menu, select Bullets and Numbering. Click on the style of bullets your document uses and then click the Customize button. In the next window, click on the shape of bullet your document uses and then click the Font button below. A Font window appears in which you can then select a different font. Afterwards, if the document prints, then the default font is probably corrupt and you may want to replace it with a good copy.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems with Image Capture for Epson Scanner

When using image capture for my Epson scanner, at the Image Correction, when I select Manual I get no menu options.

There is no Epson scanner utility for Mountain Lion, it appears. Even Epson's FAQ defers to Image Capture and says it only provides software for image modification.
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&info Type=FAQ&oid=207953&foid=214278&cat=214269&subcat=214264
Unfortunately Image Capture completely fails to provide the service it should be expected to. The 3rd party software VueScan seems like it would be adequate once I learned how to manipulate it a little more, but ultimately the only decision I can justify is to hook up the scanner to my Windows PC and use the TWAIN-based scan utility there.
If there's anywhere I can make an official plea to Apple to get Image Capture in a workable state, feel free to point the way.

  • IPhoto 9.6 and Image Capture can't import from iPhoto, don't recognize devices or SD cards

I'm running the latest version of Yosemite on a recent MacBook Pro, with iPhoto 9.6. I recently noted when trying to import photos from an SD card that iPhoto didn't recognize the SD card automatically, and ask whether I wanted to import my photos. I was able to manually tell iPhoto to import, and find the photos by navigating to the SD card on the desktop and finding the right directories on it, so I figured it was just a hiccup and went on with my life. But now I've hooked up my iPhone 5S via USB to my Mac, and iPhoto neither recognizes that it's connected nor imports photos from it. Image Capture doesn't recognize it, either.
    A few further notes:
    - I'm running iOS 8.1 on the phone.
    - My phone is unlocked when I'm trying to import photos.
    - iTunes 12 can recognize and connect with the phone just fine.
Anyone having similar problems? Is there any help for this issue? Thanks much!

    Hello Nathan,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Image capture not work with ios5

Image capture/iphoto couldn't recognize my iphone4 after update it to ios5.

I WAS having the same problem. With the introduction of photo stream, Apple currently is not allowing you to use the photo stream option concurrently with the manual import option with Image Capture. You have to choose one. My situation was that I had old picture on my iphone which were not being streamed and I hate using iPhoto.
This is what you have to do to use Image Capture on Mac... again...
    1. Disable photo stream on your iphone
    2. Connect iphone to mac
    3. Open image capture
    4. Your iPhone will show up under devices and proceed normally
    5. Voila!
Rationale: Like I said, since Apple does not give you the option to use both features (manual import via Image Capture or photo stream) you have to choose one, and by disabling photo stream on iphone, it lets you import images via Image Capture as you would normally.
You can use Keaggy's method, but I hate iPhoto. iPhoto does not let you choose your own directory which is annoying.
So those who want to go back to your regular ways, use the method above.
