WinXP/sp2 on Bootcamp

WinXP/sp2 on bootcamp sees my wireless network (which works fine on my MacBook) but won't connect, making some reference to a firewall. I'm on 40 bit WEP. How do I connect? It takes my password ok, but then fails.

One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • Problem with OBI Apps v7.9.5 installation on WinXP SP2

We are attempting to install OBI Apps v7.9.5 on a WinXP SP2 machine. However, upon clicking the setup.exe file, we get the following error message -- Unable to load the launcher file index. Invalid file type in the index.
As a pre-requisite for OBI Apps, JDK 1.5.x and OBIEE v10.1.3.3.1 have been installed without any issues. Hence, not sure why we are getting the above error for OBI Apps. We have searched Oracle documentation, blogs and forums, but not found any reason or solution to this problem.
Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you..

Thank you for the input. The contents of the installation directory are as below:
    Oracle_BI_Applications
    |- doc (folder)
    |- createResponseFile.bat
    |- installWithResponseFile.bat
    |- media.inf
    |- setup.exe
    |- setup.jar
    |- version_apps.txt
Before posting this query, I did run the setup.jar file. However, when the installation process reaches 100%, it terminates with the following error - */version_apps.txt does not exist*. Also, it rolls back the complete installation, so I do not get the OBI Apps files/directories such as DAC, dwrep, RPD, Web Catalog zip, etc.
As shown in the directory structure, this file does exist. My guess is - since I am running the JAR file and not the EXE, it is unable to resolve the path of version_apps.txt correctly and hence throws this error. Having gone through related blogs and posts, I understand that OBI Apps can be installed on Win XP SP2.
    Any inputs?

  • IPod Touch 2G, WinXP SP2, iPod stuck in limbo (can't get it to restore)

    Hi.
While trying to install the latest iPod Touch software update, error 1602 was displayed.
At first we tried to restore the iPod; no luck. Then exited iTunes and restarted the PC.
PC does not recognize the device, and cannot find the device driver, since the error popped up.
(Note: the PC account used for the download/install is NOT the Admin account.)
When attempting to go into restore mode on the iPod, the screen does blank out,
then shows the Apple logo, but this is followed by a picture of "Connect to
iTunes" message. Unfortunately, iTunes does not see that there's a device
    attached (nor does WindowsXP).
As stated in the Subject, we are on WinXP SP2. Apple suggests SP3 (didn't know
    that when we started).
    1) Is SP3 absolutely required? Can we install the update on the iPod without
    updating the PC?
    2) How do we break out of the "Connect to iTunes" screen on the iPod?
(Saw a posting for DFU mode, but didn't want to go down that path
    until absolutely necessary.)
    3) Suggestions on how to get WinXP SP2 to recognize that there is a
    device connected?
    4) Is iTunes 10.1.1 required for the iPod update and does 10.1.1 require
WinXP SP3? (I think we're one version before 10.1.1 on this PC.)
    Please advise.
    Many thanks.

  • Connect Wireless Mighty Mouse to windows xp pro sp2 on bootcamp

I recently installed windows xp pro sp2 on bootcamp i tried to hook up my Wireless Mighty Mouse and I got basically nowhere. I was able to get the computer to recognize it and i typed in the passkey "0000" and it knows that it is a bluetooth device and I changed the settings of the bluetooth to "always" be discoverable and still I have hit a dead end. I can still not seem to connect the wireless mouse in any way. What do I do???

I FUIGURED IT OUT!!! omg im so happy right now. For anyone who might be wondering I'll tell you how to make it work it you had the same problem. Once you establish the mouse a device, highlight it in the devices menu, then click properties, then services, and once it is done searching check the box for the driver and click apply and your mouse should work.

  • ITunes 8.2 won't install on WinXP SP2 64bit

Installed my new computer (WinXP SP2/ 64bit) updated via Windows Update and tried to install iTunes 8.2 for Windows (64 bit). My system meets the requirements for this version, according to the Apple iTunes page. At the beginning of the installation I get the error "This installationprogram of iTunes requires a 64bit version of Windows Vista."
Yes, I checked if my Windows Updates are all up to date.
Maybe I cannot read, but on the downloadpage of this version, it says clearly that a Windows XP SP2 should do.
So I tried to install the 32bit version, which worked for the installation. The only problem is that my iPhone nor iPod will be recognized when connected. That gives the error "Install this version in a 32bit OS".
I like to install the 64bit version, but I don't see what I am doing wrong??

I am also having a similar issue. I can install earlier versions of iTunes, 7 and earlier, however, my iPod is only compatible with iTunes 8 or later. When trying to install it on my custom machine with XP Pro x64 on it, I consistently get messages recommending to install the 64-bit version (which is only compatible with Vista), or at the end of the setup initialization I get an error message saying I need to have Service Pack 2 or better. I keep my machine fully updated at all times so I KNOW I have SP3. I have tried multiple times reinstalling the service packs just to make sure I'm not crazy and the Microsoft update site isn't lying when it says in my update history that I have in fact installed ALL updates available. No change whatsoever. Does anyone have a link to a fix for this? Getting incredibly frustrated trolling forum after forum looking for an answer, and talking to clueless customer service reps that don't know what I'm talking about half the time...
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

  • WinXP-SP2 refuses to allow screen resolution above 640x480

I've had WinXP on a Bootcamp partition for more than a year, working just fine and used occasionally. Yesterday I booted it up & the screen resolution had changed to 640x480. I tried changing it back to the native resolution of my Samsung monitor (1900x1200) using both the Win control Panel "Display" and also the nVidia control panel. XP stubbornly refuses to switch to the higher resolution, even after rebooting.
Windows issues like this, appearing for no reason I can find, are why I bought my MP in 2008. Does anyone have any advice (other than giving up on XP)?

Sorry I haven't reported back in a while. I keep thinking of things to try but still haven't solved this issue. These are the things I've done:
    Booted to XP Pro, then:
    1. Went to Hardware Monitor & tried changing resolution in Display "Settings" menu. No luck. As soon as I clicked on "Apply" the setting changes back to 640x480 resolution. Re-booted into XP Pro with no change.
    2. Went to Hardware Monitor & tried the regular "Install Display Driver" routine with Windows searching for the driver. No luck. Still didn't change resolution after reboot & attempted resolution change in "Settings".
    3. Tried changing resolution with the nVidia control panel. I clicked on the correct resolution in the list, but as soon as the window closed & I re-opened it, the resolution had changed back to 640x480.
    3. Inserted original disk with driver for for my Samsung monitor & tried "load driver from disk". No luck. Same result - resolution would not change after reboot.
    4. Went to the nVidia website & found an update for the driver on my 8800GT. Downloaded & attempted to install. Windows reported something to the effect of "That driver is already present".
    5. Tried to make changes by booting in VMWare Fusion. The resolution reported there was higher than 640x480, (don't remember what it was though), but NOT the native resolution of my Samsung (1920x1200). Unable to use "Settings" to make a change.
I wan to avoid an erase & reinstall (read: "Hassle with both Windows & VMWare"), but I'm running out of alternatives. One thing left to try - Two years ago I got a program called Winclone & made a couple of clones of the windows partition, several months apart. I've never tried actually installing them (stupid!), but this might be the time. Whatever I lose in that process shouldn't be devastating, just annoying. Is there anyone here in the Forums who has used Winclone successfully?
Or is it just time to bite the bullet & let Windows go? I only use XP for generating fractal images & occasionally doing some 2D drafting with a very old version of AutoCad (v14) which I dearly love. Very occasionally I use it to access websites that won't work with Safari & Firefox. A small voice in me says that I should try "7" on my Mac because all the reviews seem to be quite positive, but I'm not convinced that the expense & hassle would be worth it.
Sorry this is so long. I wanted to include all the steps I tried. Thanks in advance to anyone with ideas or comments.

  • Drag and drop album art not working / iTunes 7.0.1.8 & WinXP SP2

Drag and dropping album art isn't working for me after upgrading to iTunes 7 in WinXP SP2. Anyone else experience this problem?
Update: Drag and drop works from a webpage but not from Windows explorer or Windows Picture & Fax Viewer.

You only need an iTunes account to automatically get artwork. Usually artwork for CDs you import yourself is gotten from somewhere else. I tend to use allmusic.com. Occasionally I will have to use google to find the artwork though.
Have never tried to add artwork from anywhere but a webpage though.

  • BOD on WinXP SP2 after installing iTunes7.2

    Hello out there,
after I upgraded to iTunes 7.2, I received a Blue Screen of Death on my WinXP SP2 System.
Before upgrading everything went fine, I almost had forgotten how a BOD looked alike.
The worst has been: I even couldn't start WinXP in protected mode. Always received a BOD (message: hard failure!?).
Luckily, I had another WinXP Installation an another partition, which went fine. I was able to rescue my actual own files from Part. C. I also tried to do a harddiskcheck of Part C from my working XP on Part. D. When I tried this, I even received a system crash (BOD)on my otherwise well working Xp System on Partition D!!!
That's the most strange thing I ever experienced in my PC-Life.
Anyway, I had a backup of part. C made 4 weeks ago. I restored this and then put back my own files - now I'm out of the blue and lucky with a working system again. But if I hadn't ... not thinking of all the work reinstalling everything...
Did anyone else reveive such a heavy failure depending on installing iTunes 7.2???

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's not it.
Sometimes the boot camp drivers also fail to load for no apparent reason. Just now, after restarting from OS X, they didn't load until I shut down and restarted from Windows.

  • Laserjet 1018 both side printing WinXp SP2 problem

Hello I hope this is the right section for posting this , if not I apologise in advance. I run WinXp SP2 with a Laserjet 1018 printer installed  and I need to print a document with 2 pages per sheet and I used the Print on both sides option (to save paper). When the first half of the print job is done the warning led (with the exclamation mark) goes on and I don't get the continue option (mentioned in the manual). i have tried reinstalling the drivers but with no luck. I can do normal print jobs with no problem though.

    Hi
You can try running the following utility at the link below. It sounds like a network issue since you are able to print fine when you give the users admin rights.

  • Nalntsrv and winxp sp2

    Hi There
I have intermittent problem with nalntsrv service. Users receive error
message "Problem: Application Launcher NT Service was not found to run
the application as system user." So those applications run as insecure
users will not work. Under task manager, the service is there!
Sometime, reboot helps to make that service runs properly. Sometime,
support staff has to run "nalntsrv install start" to get it running.
Sometime, Novell client has to be reinstalled.
Our servers are running NW6 SP4 and ZfD 3.2 Sp1. Our PCs are running
    WinXP SP2 and Novell client 4.9 SP2.
    Any clue, please?

  • EAP/TLS , PEAP problem on PORTEGE with WinXP sp2 Tablet ed.

We have: ap Cisco AiroNet350 with WPA-EAP, Freeradius with configured EAP/TLS and PEAP, tablet PC PORTEGE with WinXP sp2.
    This problem discribed at http://wiki.freeradius.org/index.php/FAQ#PEAP_Doesn.27t_Work
Maybe to solve this problem we need a fix ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885453/en-us ), but microsoft support tells to contact with notebook manufacturer.
Can anybody help me with this problem?

Hmmm Im not expert on this field but it seems that the MS OS update is need. (I hope)
The preinstalled Windows OS is a simply OEM version and usually every updates should be possible. However, if the MS guys told you to contact the notebook manufacture so you can contact the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for more details.
But I have investigated a little bit in the net and found this useful site:
    http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid7_gci945257,00.html
    1. 802.1X depends on communication between your wireless router and a RADIUS authentication server. Whether you're using WPA2, WPA, or WEP with dynamic keys, the following 802.1X debugging hints can be helpful:
    a. Re-enter the same RADIUS secret into your wireless router and RADIUS server.
    b. Configure your RADIUS server to accept RADIUS request from your router's IP address.
    c. Use ping to verify router-to-server reachability.
    d. Watch LAN packet counts to verify that RADIUS requests and responses are flowing.
    e. Use an Ethernet analyzer like Ethereal to watch RADIUS success/failure messages.
    f. For XP SP2, turn on Wzctrace.log by entering "netsh ras set tracing * enabled"
    2. If RADIUS is flowing but access requests are being rejected, you may have an 802.1X Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) mismatch or credential problem. Fixing this depends on EAP Type. For example, if your RADIUS server requires EAP-TLS, then select "Smart Card or other Certificate" on your wireless adapter's Network Properties / Authentication panel. If your RADIUS server requires PEAP, then select "Protected EAP" for the adapter. If your RADIUS server requires EAP-TTLS, then you'll need a third-party wireless client like AEGIS or Odyssey.
Make sure that EAP-specific properties match for your adapter and server, including server certificate Trusted Root Authority, server domain name (optional but must match when specified), and client authentication method (e.g., EAP-MSCHAPv2, EAP-GTC). When using PEAP, use the CHAP "Configure" panel to prevent Windows from automatically re-using your logon.

  • Is it really unnecessary to use ipodmini with winxp sp2?

I got an ipod mini recently, and just found it needs winxp sp2, but mine is sp1.I asked some guys, they said it's unnecessary with sp2. Is it ture?

SP2 is pretty important from a Windows perspective but it will work with either. Get SP2 as fast as you can though.

  • 2nd Generation iPod (20GB) won't mount under 10.3.9 OR WinXP SP2

Just got a "new" replacement 20GB Touch Wheel iPod under Apple's Battery replacement program. The unit seems fine and operates normally when disconnected from computer. However, none of my computers (and I have 3) will mount the iPod or see the iPod in iTunes.
I am running the latest iTunes 6.0.3(6) under 10.3.9 on the Macs (G4 powerbook 1.5Ghz) and iMac G5 1.8Ghz. Running WinXP SP2 and iTunes 6.0.3.5 on the Windows box.
NOTE: I struggled with this for a few days at home and decided to take the unit to the local Apple Store (Somerset Mall). The Genius there connected to a store PowerBook (probably running Tiger) and the unit mounted just fine. He restored the iPod and it appears to work fine under Tiger.
    What's up with this????
P.S.: I have a 4GB Nano as well, and this works just fine!
