  • How to wipe original iphone clean?

How do I wipe all the info from my phone if lost or stolen? I have addresses and personal info that I would not want someone having access to....I have the passcode set on my phone, but I am searching for more security than that if I misplace my phone.
Steve Jobs said it was possible to wipe it clean if you lose your phone, but I haven't seen anything on how to do it.....does anyone know?
Thanks so much for all the help!

The only way to remotely wipe an iPhone running firmware version 2.0 or later is with an iPhone that is accessing an Exchange Account which can be done from the Exchange Server only.
I know the passcode lock is only 4 digits, but unless you are using 0000 or 1111, someone would have to be lucky in guessing your passcode, or have to spend a good amount of time going through every possible 4 number passcode combination.

Does Apple have the ability to Wipe Clean an iPhone after its been stolen ?

No.  This can only be done by you, and only if you have enabled Find My iPhone before it was stolen.  If it was you may be able to remotely wipe it if it's online.  See http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/05/remote-wipe-iphone-or-ipad/.

  • Should I wipe my iPhone before updating to 3.0

...the only reason I ask is this: My iPhone has been experiencing lag and crashes that I hope do not persist into the 3.0 update. For this reason, and to ensure a 'clean install', should I wipe my iPhone before upgrading?

Everything is backed up then erased anyway when updating. I would just leave it like it is.

  • I have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

i have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

    Try this:
Open the "Find my iPhone" app on your iPad, fill in your AppleID and password at the start up screen, and you should see a list of all your devices and their current location, if connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network. Devices not connected will be shown as "offline". But you can still trap on the icon and hit "erase iPhone" in the right hand window.
If your iPhone is not listed, you did not activate this feature during the setup of the phone and it can't be erased remotely.
If the phone is listed, even as offline, tap on "erase" to send the erase command. The next time your device will be connected to any kind of network, the content will be erased.

  • I have just purchased a new macbook and need to sync my iphone with itunes, i understand that you can only sync your phone with one itunes account. I do not want to wipe my iphone when syncing with this new itunes account. Any advice welcome

I have just purchased a new macbook and need to sync my iphone with itunes, i understand that you can only sync your phone with one itunes account. I do not want to wipe my iphone when syncing with this new itunes account. Any advice welcome

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

  • Step by step instructions to wipe clean and reinstall

Hello. I am hoping somewhere on here, there will be someone who can direct me to step-by-step instructions to wipe clean and reinstall operating system.
iMac g4 (the dome model, which I still love). 7 years old. 10.2 operating system. It has been crashing repeatedly and I paid for diagnostics, they propose wiping clean and reinstalling, and I really need to do this myself and not pay for it.
Pretty please, I hope you can direct me. Thanks!
    Amy

    Amy,
Before going the *nuke route*, please post who did the diagnostics. Was it a "Genius" at an Apple Retail Store or a third party Mac Reseller?
What is the condition of the RAM (total)..... how much free space on the Hard Drive .... at what point in time did it start to crash ..... did it start after downloading some software .... have you tried Repairing Permissions .... do you run a maintenance Utility like Macaroni to clean up the OSX .... have you tried to run Repair Disk (HD) using the original Install disc of Jaguar .... did you ever update to the latest version of 10.2.8 ...... are you trying to access websites that do not support Jag?
As they use to say in Dragnet ....... "just give us the facts".

  • "Wipe clean" hard drive

I was about to "wipe clean" my G5 iMac for resale or give away with Installer Disc.  However, the only disc I can find reads, "iMac G5 Additional Software & Apple Hardware Test" .  Can I erase the drive with this disc?  If not, how?  HELP!
    ~Neophyte NaNa~

    Doubtful. Very.
You can define a new user & delete old users.  Then, zero out free space.
Restore Tiger 10.4 & Leopard 10.5  DVDs are available from Apple by calling 800-767-2775 as of January 20, 2013.  There is a small fee.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4720126?tstart=0
    Zeroing out free space.
mac hd > Applications > Utilities >Disk Utility
For this example, my startup drive is Ext-Remainder
    1) Click on your startup partition.
It's a little confusion which to click on.  There is the harddrive and under the harddrive name, the partition name or names.
You want the name of your startup partition.
    Click on this name.
    2) click on the erase tab.
    3) Click on Erase Free Space button at the bottom mid-left of erase panel.
    in this panel.
    4) You will be asked how many times you wish to erase.  One time takes the last amount of time.
    4) Erasing more than once will take a long time.

how do I wipe my iphone4S as I've followed the suggested support papers up to number 5, but it's not working.
I have forgotten my passcode and I know I will be to wipe the iphone but I can't find any instructions that actually work.
    PLEASE HELP

Either force the phone into recovery mode, as described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
Or, login to iCloud.com, on your computer, locate the phone, then erase it.
    Either will remove the passcode.

  • Can I lock or wipe my iphone even if I did not subscribe to mobileme?, can I lock or wipe my iphone even if I did not subscribe to mobileme?

Is there any way to wipe an iphone 3gs even though I had not set it up with mobile me?  My phone was stolen a couple of days ago, and even though i did not have much important info in it (it was relatively new) aside from my contacts.... I'm worried about the access to my mail account if they are able to use a wifi source.  I've cancelled the service on that phone, but would feel more comfortable if I coud wipe the info on the phone.  Is there any way to do it?

If the Find My iPhone service is not installed on the device you cannot wipe or locate the device. Sorry to hear about your loss :'(

  • Dont want to wipe my iPhone

I have recently been having problems with iTunes...it wouldnt open and there was several error messages. I have been able to fix this (with help from this site)
I am now running iTunes 10 and all my music and apps are there, it seems to be running as normal.
Now my question is that I havent synced my iPhone since June and Im worried that when I sync my iPhone the up to date info on my iPhone wont be transfered onto my iTunes.
I know technically iTunes should take the info from my iPhone and put it onto iTunes but Im worried that because Ive been having problems with my iTunes it will wipe my iPhone.
I have a back up on disk and wonder what the best step forward is.
Is there a way of 'testing the water' making sure that it wont delete my iPHone data.
    Thanks

As long as you didn't reformat your hard drive and your iTunes library on your computer has not changed, there should be no problem.
If there is a problem and any iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased, you will be provided a warning message indicating this will occur which can be cancelled.

  • Will I Loose Family Sharing if I Wipe my iPhone as New

I want to get a fresh install of IOS 8 on my iPhone 5S.  Will I loose family sharing that I’ve set up if I wipe my iPhone and set up as new.  I’d be using my same Apple ID when I set it up as new.
    Thanks.

So even if I log back in with my iCloud account on a brand new install of IOS 8 on my iPhone I would loose Family Sharing which I’m the organizer?

  • I have bought a new imac late 2012 and I want to wipe clean my 2008 mac and install Mountain Lion on the old computer for my kids to have

I have bought a new imac late 2012 and I want to wipe clean my 2008 mac and install Mountain Lion on the old computer for my kids to have.
What do I need to do?

Boot your Mac from the System Install DVD that came with it, and erase the HD using Disk Utility. Then, reinstall the OS from the disc. Give the disc to your kids since it must always accompany the Mac it came with.
After the OS installation is complete and the Mac restarts to begin its new owner setup procedure, just shut down the Mac. Your kids can take it from there.
If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store, you cannot transfer it. The Apple ID you used to purchase it is required to maintain and / or reinstall the OS. Unless you want to supply your own Apple ID to your children for their use, they must purchase their own copy of Mountain Lion using their own Apple ID.
If they do not already have an Apple ID and you want them to have Mountain Lion, you will need to create one on their behalf. This does not change the above procedure - just give them the Apple ID and password you create in addition to the Mac and its discs.

  • I have sold my IPhone 4 and forgot to delete Apple ID , email and wipe the IPhone, is there any way to do it other then "find my IPhone app"

I Have changed my Apple ID password but that won't help as all my notes, messages, emails etc are on there, is there any way to wipe the IPhone without having it anymore? I can't erase the IPhone though "find my IPhone" app as I didn't download it on that IPhone. Thanks

Go to icloud.com.  Log in with your Apple ID & Password.  Go to the Find My iPhone section.  Perform a remote wipe of the device.
You don't have to have downloaded any app.  You only have to have enabled the Find My iPhone option under Settings > iCloud.  If you did not do that, then you cannot remotely access the device.
If that's the case, then change ALL of your account passwords; email, banking, etc.  All of them.  And then monitor those accounts very closely!
