Wipe G4 clean?

i want to wipe my powerbook g4 clean. i have the leopard disk. Where do i start?

Hook up the two systems with a firewire cable. Boot the Powerbook holding the T key down. It will then show up as a disk drive on your MacBook Pro. Bring up disk utility on the MacBook Pro, and it should see the Powerbook hard drive. You can erase it from there. On the erase screen, choose additional options and secure erase, where it will write zero's to the hard drive. Otherwise, it just deletes the directory but leaves the data on the drive. You shouldn't need to use your Leopard DVD, and you won't impact any data on your MacBook Pro.

  • My current laptop is about 3 years old. Got a virus and had to wipe it clean. Now my IPod touch 2nd generation won't recognize this computer as the one it was originally assigned to.  what do I need to do to safeguard my tunes on the Ipod touch.

My current laptop is about three years old and got a virus.  Had to wipe it clean.  Now my Ipod Touch-2nd generation is not recognizing it as the primary original computer and says it is registered on another computer.  What can I do to safeguard my library of songs on the Ipodtouch.  Any suggestions?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Picked up older powermac G4 from a garage sale. Can not do any updates because owner, that has now moved did not wipe it clean and I need a password to do anything. Is there a way to restore to factory default and make myself admin?

Recently purchased older powermac G4 at a garage sale. Unable to do anything because owner, that has now moved, did not wipe it clean and everything I try to do requires his password. Is there a way to restore to factory default, make myself admin and reset password? Hoping this purchase wasnt a complete waste of my time and money.

Here's the instructions if you have the discs.
Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274?viewlocale=en_US
    Changing your administrator password
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh655.html
Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
    1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
    2. wait for terminal show
    3. release keys
    4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
    5. press enter
    6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
    7. press enter
    8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
    9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.
    http://www.macobserver.com/tip/2003/06/16.1.shtml
Here is a way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
       1. Reboot
       2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
       3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
              * mount -uw /
              * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
              * shutdown -h now
       4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!
Not sure is this will work on a Mac running OS 9.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Would like to wipe HD clean

    I can't wip it clean
I would like to zero out my hard drive before Apple replaces it next week.
    Please take a look "Here"
This will tell you what is wrong with my Hard drive -
Nothing works in Disk Utility - the iMac right now is working OK -

Did you use the system disc that originally came with your computer?
    Erasing disks securely
Start up from your System install disc, go to Disk Utility and select the disk and click erase - to securely erase data click Security Options and Erase Free Space which will entirely wipe your disk, overwriting it with zeros so that no data is recoverable.

  • How to wipe iMac clean to sell it, but not lose software programs

I am selling my late 2009 iMac, OSX version 10.9.4,  to a friend, so I want to wipe it clean of my info, but want to keep programs to pass on to him, such as iPhoto, iMovie, Windows for Mac, etc.  How do I accomplish this?

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps listed in this support article, take these steps:
    1. Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
    2. Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
    3. If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
    4. If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
    5. If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted.
    6. If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
    7. If the machine has an internal hard drive, erase the one remaining data partition with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall an older OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by starting up in Internet Recovery mode (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from physical media, deliver those to the new owner.
If you're selling the machine, or donating it in working order, and it originally shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, then you have the option of installing either from the discs that came with it or from a retail Snow Leopard disc (which you must then transfer to the buyer.) The buyer should understand that if he doesn't get the original discs from you, he won't get the bundled iLife applications or the Apple Hardware Test. Replacements for the original discs can be ordered from Apple.
The new owner will have to redownload any software that came from the App Store, including OS X upgrades, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer those either. The buyer will have to purchase them.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • IF I DON'T HAVE A FIND MY PHONE APP ON AN UNUSED WORKING IPHONE HOW CAN I WIPE IT CLEAN OR SHUT IT OFF OR TRACK IT DOWN?

If i had my old iphone 3G stolen from me all it's used for is for music (ipod) and I don't have a passcode on it or a Find my phone app on it is there a way for me to wipe it clean or turn it off completely or maybe even track it down? please help me if possible i have important pics and infos on that old phone that i need deleted.

According to the information you have provided, based on my knowledge, it seems the only option would be to trace back where the iPhone had been.
Do you know where it was stolen? Have you contacted the police?
Unfortunately, if you haven't set up Find My iPhone, obviously, the service will be of no use.
P.S. When asking question, please type without CAPS, because that often gives a bad 'image' on the writer. I understand the urgency, however typing like that is not neccessary.

  • I have a Macbook 2,1 and want to wipe it clean so as I can give it away.  I do not have any original start up disks and wondered how I can do this?

I have a Macbook 2,1 and want to wipe it clean so as I can give it away.  I do not have any original start up disks and wondered how I can do this?

If your Mac is running 10.6 like your signature says, then the 10.6.3 upgrade disks will work as they contain the full 10.6, you need to hold the option key down to select the disk to boot from.
Once booted from the disk, Disk Utility is there to wipe the drive (use the Security Option > Zero) and then reinstall O S X 10.6.3 and then reboot, press the power button down to hard shutdown and the machine will stay like that to boot into the Welcome to Mac video for the next owner to setup.

  • Using Configurator 1.7.1 and every time I try to update a supervised iPad, Configurator treats it as a new device, restores it and wipes it clean. I have it set to "Do not restore backup."

We are a 1:1 iPad school with iPad 2. I'm trying to update iOS to 8.2 and updating all apps as needed. When I plug in a previously supervised iPad, Configurator immediately goes into restore mode and wipes it clean and sets it up ready to "prepare" even though I've chosen "do not restore backup."
Because of this the student loses all their data on the device and I have to go back and set up email accounts again. Although I've had trouble with Configurator in the past, I've been able to figure out solutions but this one has me stuck.

This is might because of your prior change in softwares. so first you have to do run '''sfc''' in run command. and then you see the specific problem which causes this . Since System File Checker (sfc) scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.
    * Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
    * Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
    * In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
    sfc /scannow

  • How to wipe iphone clean remotely if lost/stolen?

How do you wipe (destroy) all content on your iphone if it is lost/stolen? I haven't lost my iphone, but I want to know how if it is lost or stolen.
I know this is possible because I watched the keynote address of Steve Jobs and he explained that since the iphone has the capabilities of syncing with your computer remotely, you have the power to completely wipe your iphone clean if it is lost/stolen, yet I have not seen any information anywhere on how to do this. Obviously I can't plug it into my computer to wipe it clean if it is lost/stolen, so how do you do it remotely?

Just restore the phone in iTunes and set it up as a new phone.
is there any way to keep the apps I have bought on there?
They will sync back as they are store in iTunes.

My iPad screen is extremely damaged, I need to wipe iPad clean but can't see the screen. Can I control iPad settings through my pc/iTunes?

    You can try an alternative.
This is the quickest thing that came to mind, but if you want to wipe it with no care of the data on the device at all:
Place device in recovery mode (turn off device > hold home button + plug in to iTunes (WHILE HOLDING BUTTON)).
iTunes will give you an error saying it detected a device in recovery mode, you need to restore to use device. Restoring device is a factory reset. AKA a wipe of the device

  • Just purchased a used iMac and need to wipe it clean.

I just purchased a 2011 24" iMac used.  The previous owner did not remove anything.  I would like to wipe it clean before I run Time Machine from an external drive to load my programs, data etc.  What is the best way to wipe clean (completely clean) the iMac.  Also, would I be better off loading all of the programs from the original CD's rather than Time Machine?  I don't know if I could have picked up "stuff" over the years that I don't want brought to this newer machine.
Also, I would like to upgrade to the latest OS Lion.  Should I do this first or after the wipe?
    Thanks!

Did your iMac come with Lion (10.7) installed or did the seller buy that at the app store?
If the seller purchased it, then you will need the original install DVDs (Snow Leopard), either from the seller or by calling Apple and giving them your serial number. The reason: the license for any OS or app obtained at the app store is not transferable - the seller is obligated to wipe the drive and reinstall the original system. The OS is tied to the Apple ID of the purchaser forever and you will never be able to reinstall.
If it turns out yours came with Lion, the seller was supposed to call Apple and make a transfer of the OS to you.
So, the first thing to do is to figure out which OS version it came with and, if you have the install disks (Snow Leopard), then use them to wipe the drive and reinstall the original system. After that, you can purchase Lion (or Mountain Lion) at the app store using your own Apple ID.

I am selling my HP 7410xi all-in-one printer and want to wipe it clean of all my settings (FAX, Network and etc.).  Is there a better way than using all the factory defaults options in the printer's "setup" screen?
Previously, I had an HP technician walk me through a complete factory restore of this printer by simultaneously pressing a few buttons.
