Wipe or Win repair install.

Hello all,
I hame having some problems installing some programs, want to get all this bloat ware off my machine, etc......was told to do a win repair install and someone also said to do a wipe.....not sure what the diff is. Will any of these fix missing or damaged files in my sys32 folder.  I do not mind installing all of my programs again, but I rather not have to install drivers, etc.    As usual, not type of disk was sold with my g570, so I guess I would have to get win 7 from somewhere....do I use my key on the bottom of laptop to somewhere download a new copy?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Is there a step by step somewhere that I could follow.
Thanks for your help!

This is what i posted before, just wanted more info before i do something to this laptop....besides this flash thing, it has been shutting down on its own several times a week, too much bloatware, the touchpad is the worst i have ever used.....other than these...not a bad laptop....
Thanks again,
K

Hi,
Win 7, IE 9, 64 bit, virus off, logged on as admin, mscms.dll file is in the sys 32 folder. When I try to install Flash Player, I get an error that mscms.dll file is missing. Any ideas? Thansk, Jim
tried to re-register the file and this was the error - module mscms.dll was loaded but the entry point DllregisterServer was not found.......make sure that "mscmd.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file then try again
also did a sfcscannow and these where the errors....
Just included the lines that had info next to them

  • Windows 7 repair install failure...

    hello.
i'm running windows 7 64bit on a boot camp partition. something is wrong with it (long story). i'm attempting to do a 'repair install'; unfortunately, i keep getting error 0x80070005 (windows was unable to create a required install folder). i've tried:
    -uninstalling bootcamp
-disabling all services (firewall, antivirus, etc)
-installing iso of windows 7 onto usb flashdrive (in case problem is dvd)
yet i keep getting the error message. any suggestions?
thanks in advance for your help.

  • Repair install... wait... what if I can't boot?

Ok, so here's a two part question:
    1. Just say something has gone terribly wrong and I cannot boot into Windows.
Some corrupt Windows file - I’m thinking important things like winload.exe and some vital dll's - or maybe something has gone wrong in the registry.
How do I do a repair install to fix the problem without deleting all of my programs, current registry etc?
I know in XP you could just boot off the disk and do a repair install, but I can't seem to find a similar function with 7.
    2. Here is a situation that has led me to be in the above situation many times. You have a perfectly operating Windows 7 installation (and assume this would apply to Vista too) and you go and do something like: change a motherboard, move the HDD from one computer to another... or in some way or another CHANGE THE STORAGE CONTROLLER that the HDD has to boot from.
This results in a BSOD on boot. I would assume this is because the installation doesn’t have the driver for the controller, and if it does - it isn’t installed, and set to boot from that controller (bad wording there, but I am guessing that there is some way that the windows install is set to boot from only the specified storage controller/driver)
Again, in XP, I would just do a repair install booting to CD with the correct storage controller driver. This was tedious, but the only way I knew of to get the HDD booting again.
So, as I cannot seem to find a way of repair installing with 7/Vista (and even if I did find a way, I hope there is some easier thing I can do), what can I do to stop this problem from occurring when the storage controller is changed? Can I pre-install the driver? How do I set it to use that driver to boot? (again, assuming something like this happens)
Sorry for the long winded question(s), I hope you guys can help me out! :)
    jt

That, my friend, is your problem.  Unlike older Win9x and some current Linux operating systems, you just can’t arbitrarily change key hardware components.  Yes, there are situations in which you can do that; replace a bad motherboard with a replacement that is an exact match—at least has the same chipset and controllers;  However, you can’t remove an Abit motherboard, install a Gigabyte replacement and expect everything to be okay.  Moving one boot/system hard drive from one system to another with differing hardware is just the same as the replacement motherboard example.
There are a couple of reasons for this.  One is to help reduce the instances of piracy.  The other, more important reason is for system stability.  Bad hardware, computer configurations, and device drivers are responsible for a good majority of blue screen errors.  Replacing key hardware components only undermines Windows stability.
What can you do to prevent this problem from occurring when the storage controller is changed?  Nothing.  If you need to change a storage controller that will be connected to the boot/system drive, then you will need to make preparations and such accordantly.
    Outside of the rant . . .
Like Wolfie said, you should be able to boot with the Windows 7 DVD, do an in-place-reinstall.  That should fix your boot problem and provide you with a somewhat stable system.
In my opinion, a better option is to do a clean reload so you have no remaining migration artifacts looming in the background.

  • Can't reinstall or do a repair install of 8.1

Recently, my new system I built refused to boot.  It won't safe boot so I tried a repair install.  Both a DVD and a USB attempt just stops after clicking on repair. It will  sit for no matter how long I wait.  I then tried a recent image
which copied over successfully but made no difference.
Finally, I tried a fresh install and that did the same thing.....it just sits there and does nothing.  I left it alone for 2 hours and nada.
So, first, why can't I do a safe boot and next, why is it impossible to do a repair or even a new install?  I have no idea what to try next as I can't get any closer to a boot.
    Thanks in advance!

I had to go out and turned the system on when I got back and it booted up.  I'm going to let it go a bit until I have more time to work on it.
The OS drive is a Corsair SSD with plenty of space and so far, the Corsair Toolbox finds nothing wrong with it.

  • SQL 2012 SP1 fails to complete, Repair Install fails

Somewhere, SQL 2012 stopped running.  This is developer copy.  I believe also that SP1 was trying to install and found that SQL Engine was not running.  In attempts to repair, I use the DVD and the repair process.   But that stalls/dies
because SP1 is still not completed in install.  Deadlock.  I was attempting to repair, restore Master but cannt get pass the SP install hang.  Any thoughts on how to stop SP1 install, avoid hang and use DVD repair install?

  • Help menu options change all the time - repair install always shows

After installing Acrobat X, I noticed the Help menu options change all the time.  The repair install option is always present and sometimes the deactivate option is present but grreyed-out, somtimes it is enabled and most of the time it doesn't even show up.  I have the full version purchased from a major online retailer.

I should add the following: The Sound control panel will not even let me click on the "Show volume in Menu Bar" check box.
I just now installed the latest Brother control panel (Leopard compatible) and it DOES appear in the menu bar.

  • Win 7 install

If I buy a new Satellite laptop with Win 8 installed will I be successful in wiping the drive and installing Win 7 in it's place?

    Hi,
I did that.  Actually, I have my C855 multi-booting, with Win8 (from a Win8 DVD installation), Win7, and Fedora.  I have the C855 BIOS set for legacy mode (not UEFI) and use a tool called Boot It NG (BING) to setup the partitions and for the multi-booting.
Make sure that you use Disk Creator first, to burn the recovery DVDs, though, before trying.
    Jim
P.S.  You could probably use BCD/BCD Edit to do the multi-booting also, I think.

  • G580 win 8 installed - I want to reinstall Win 7

    I have a g580 that came with win 8.
I have a Win 7 home premium 'upgrade' disk.  The upgrade is supposed to be xp or vista to Win 7  (Not 100% sure about that....I bought it for the XP upgrade to 7 but I think the disk was ok for Vista as well)
I tried to install it on the G580 with Win 8 and it didn't work.  The install failed (it was a while ago)
My question - Is there a way to do a clean install over the HD?  Can I format the HD and just throw in the Win 7 disk?
It didn't work when I tried to install it over 8.

    hi ChrisPbass,
That Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disc that you have is probably for a Windows Vista machines that wants to upgrade to Windows 7. If you got that upgrade disc from your OEM, there's an option to clean install Windows 7 into a blank drive.
What you need to do first is:
    1. Backup all of your files on the Windows 8 OS and create a a recovery media (just in case you decided to go back to Windows 8)
    2. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 after turning the computer ON, when you're in, go to the Boot tab and disable UEFI Boot then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    3. Insert your Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disc and choose Custom Advanced.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    3. To install Windows 7 on an MBR disk volume, you need to wipe out all the partitions until you get a single unallocated space, when you see all the partitions, choose Drive Options (Advanced) then delete all partitions. (systems that came pre-installed with Windows 8 has a GPT disk volume).
    4. Install Windows 7 on the single unallocated space,
    5. If you get an Error: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files." Do the following:
    a. Press Shift +F10 to open command prompt
    b. type diskpart
    c. type list disk (this is usually disk 0 - this is the SATA HDD, it may vary if you have another device inserted)
    d. type select disk 0
    e. type clean
    f.  type create partition primary
    g: type active
    h. type format fs=ntfs quick
    i.  type assign
    j.  type exit (do this twice to close disk part and the command prompt)
If you succeed in installing Windows 7, you can get the drivers at http://support.lenovo.com
    Goodluck!

  • Black/Blank Screen with Boot Camp Win 7 Install on new 27" iMac

I'm having a problem getting Windows 7 on a new 27" iMac and am familiar with the Boot Camp Windows installation process. Here's what I've done...
    1. Run Boot Camp from OSX, partition the drive.
    2. Insert Win 7 cd, proceed with installation.
    3. Computer restarts and the 'preparing for initial setup' message displays with the Win 7 splash screen. When it switches to where it should be displaying the Win 7 desktop, the screen is black.
I can hear the Mac still running, but there's no display. It's like it's waiting for some type of user input for the intial Windows setup (haven't yet entered the key).
I've done a hard shutdown and restarted Windows with the exact same result. After reboot, I get the 'Windows was not shut down properly' message with the 3 safe mode options, where choosing either gets me the 'Windows cannot complete setup in safe mode'. And any key reboots it.
The Mac side still runs fine and holding the option key at start up gives the Mac/Win boot options.
I'm inclined to think that it's a video driver issue since the 27" is brand new. Maybe Apple used a new video card for the larger screen and haven't updated the Boot Camp drivers. I checked on ATI's site for an updated driver for the Radeon HD 4670 they say is in the new 27" model that's currently available. (not the quad core)
Is there any workaround for this? I was thinking of installing Vista instead, and upgrading to Win7 once installed, but if it's a driver thing, it would just be a long way to the same result and could have the same problem with Vista as well.
    Any ideas?

I think I figured out what is happening here with the video drivers on the new iMac's and Win7. I believe it's re-directing the video to the mini display-port output when you see the screen go blank. I installed my Win7 x64 with no issues but I had an external monitor hooked up at the time and while it was installing the O/S my iMac went black but everything moved over to my external screen. Once it finished installing then everything went back to normal after a reboot.
Not sure if that helps anyone but pretty sure that's what is going on. So if you have another monitor handy, get the mini display-port adaptor from Apple and connect your external screen before you install Win7. Cheers!
P.S. If you have one of the new iMac's and want to install the latest Radeon drivers (after you have installed Win7 on your iMac), try the following. Download and install the drivers from ATI/AMD directly. They'll try to install and fail (no worries) but now the driver/install files will be unzipped into an ATI folder on your main Windows hard drive.
Now go to this site: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php and download the tool and use the Vista instructions listed on the main page of the URL above. You shouldn't need to download the MSXML 6.0 and I don't think you need to disable the UAC stuff like they suggest for Vista (I didn't) and it works fine. UAC is not nearly as intrusive on Win7 as it is in Vista so I think that's why it worked for me and pretty sure the MSXML 6.0 is already in Win7. Once the program has modified the mobile Radeon drivers then you can run "setup" from your ATI directory and the new drivers will finally install correctly including the Catalyst Control Center. Voila! I now have 9.10 drivers up and running on my new 27" iMac and working perfectly so far.

  • ITunes won't start after Windows 7 Repair install

    Hi there
I recently had to repair my Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium edition installation. It warned me before reinstalling that there could be some problems with iTunes following the repair but I followed the instructions to counter this and repair Windows 7. i.e. I uninstalled all iTunes software as outlined on Apples pages.
On opening Windows 7 again I ended up with a Blue Screen of Death - this pointed me to a faulty iTunes installation - I checked control panel and sure enough it was not listed as uninstalled. I therefore followed online instructions to completely remove iTunes and used Revo Uninstaller Pro to catch anything I missed. All looked good, I rebooted my machine and then went to install iTunes again. I chose the 64bit installer from the site and installed as normal. I have now tried to open iTunes (to sync my iPhone) and it thinks about it for a second and then never opens. On opening task manager I can see iTunes.exe*32 (does this mean 32 bit and if so why when I've DEFINITELY got the 64 bit installation), iTunesHelper.exe*32 and AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe*32 all in Processes - they are not in open programs.
Even stopping these processes does not help. iTunes was working fine before my Windows 7 problems on this machine and all other software seems ok too following my repair. Can someone please assist me in getting iTunes to work again with my computer as this is very frustrating. This is not the first time it has happened to me - on my old Vista machine (different machine totally) this happened once or twice intermittently but then seemed to resolve itself. I have defrag, disk doctor and run just about every utility I have installed to get my system working ok and the only problem seems to be iTunes. I'd therefore appreciate help in resolving this.
    Many thanks

Did you try and update through itunes or download the installer from the apple website?
I've read some where its better to just download the stand alone installer from apple and
    do it that way.

  • Wipe Hard Drive clean install of Window Server

What is the best way to wipe Hard Drive? Save a partition for later use and use remaining partition to install Sever OS, save to external drive(to use later) and wipe completely(cleanest install, I believe), complete wipe completely not worrying about
    saving anything, or suggestions?
NOTE; The machine has never been turned on, still in the box.  Hardware goes above and beyond Min. Requirements for software.
Which is the best way to install Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Evaluation download - ISO image? Azure?
How to install Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials from ISO image- Download and burn to DVD,  Save to USB or to actual machine?
How to install Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials from Azure? (Don't have Azure account)
I need to have it completed ASAP so I can install Accounting/PM database software. Need it operational Monday if all possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There are a lot of embedded questions here, I'll try to hit them all:
    1) If you're reinstalling on the same partition, you do not need to be too crazy in how it gets formatted.  There's no performance gain to using BCWipe or anything.  When you format, you're just erasing the table of contents, then overwriting the
actual data later on anyway.  Just keep it simple.
    2) If you want to save the data, just copy it somewhere else before you delete anything.  If you're not concerned about the data, don't worry about it, just go back to answer #1.
    3) You can download the Evaluation OS from the MS website.  You cannot turn an eval copy into a full install without reinstalling, so are you sure that is what you want?  You'll end up test building, then when you like it, you'll have to do it
    all over again.
    4) ISO to DVD or USB: Doesn't matter how you end up installing it.  Today's machines can usually support any install media.  Some ways are faster, but you're only talking about saving minutes.  What does it really matter?

I haven't heard of any fix from Adobe but maybe this will hwlp.
I kept getting an error this morning when trying to install Windows updates on my PC. One of the updates was trying to update Visual C++ (vc_red) from a folder on the C drive which was locked. The folder had a very long name (2f4b86.....). I kept getting a popup box pointing to the folder but it would not install the update from there. I had to copy the folder to the C:\Users\Public Downloads folder to get it to install. I mention this because vc_red seems to be involved with the previous Acrobat XI installation issue I had.
I would try looking at your installed updated and see if you have either update installed.:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)
Removing them may allow Acrobat XI to be installed.
