Wire Bound Books

I want to produce a wire bound book from a book created in Aperture - is this possible. Aperture does not seem to offer wire bound books (why is that?) and i cannot find a way to import my aperture book into iphoto - i can import the photos but not the aperture book - any ideas?

It's not possible. Wire bound books are an iPhoto only item and there is no way to move a book from Aperture to iPhoto.

  • Despreading a doc OR Bleeds when exporting pdf for wire bound book

    Using ID CS3 Windows.
Creating PDF using PDF X1a for offset printing
I created a standard 8.5 x 11 page size annual report that is going to be wir-o bound (ie spiral bound).
It was created with page size as above and done as facing page spreads.
When I export the pdf, the bleed of a picture on the left side page that bleeds to the inside margin appears on the right hand page in the bleed margin, and no bleed is on the left page inside margin where it should be.
Just wondering if there is a way to solve this, other than going through and making the whole document not spreads in ID
IF I do have to 'despread' the document, is there a quick way to do this or do I have move each page in the pages panel?

How about File > Document Setup and uncheck the facing pages box? This will have an adverse effect on things if the book uses mirrored or different elements on left and right master pages.
As far as I know, if you leave facing pages on, the only way to "despread" is to disallow shuffling and drag them apart in the pages panel. Whether that is faster than splitting up and reassigning masters is debatable.

  • After creating a hardcover book in iPhoto how do you copy and create wire bound issues of the same book?

I created a hardcover book in iPhoto.  Now, I want to make additional copies but wire bound instead of hardcover.  Can't seem to make it happen.

Duplicate the book in case of problems (command-D) and click on change theme - select the same theme and the new binding -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
    - check the preview very carefully in case any text reflows or gets cut off due to size differences

  • I complete and ordered a hardcover photo book.  Now, I would like to order the same photo book as a soft cover or wire bound.  IPhoto does not seem to have directions for this process.

I completed and ordered a hardcover photo book,  Now I would like to order the same book but with a soft cover or wire bound cover.  IPhoto doesn't seem to have a feature which just lets me change the completed book to another type of cover.

see my answer to your previous duplicate post
duplicate the book in case of issues and use the change \theme button - select the same theme and the new format - preview (in case anything has changed) and order

  • Spiral Bound Books

I'm new to Aperture, and maybe I'm completely missing something here.
I want to create a spiral-bound book like that of iPhoto. I just don't see it though. All I can find is hard cover and soft cover books of several sizes, the same as here: http://www.apple.com/aperture/resources/print-products.html.
So, are spiral-bound books an iPhoto only product?
    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks for the information.
I just liked the feel of laying out the books better in Aperture. I actually use Adobe for editing; so I'll save my money for now. I know I should do the layouts in InDesign, but this is just simpler.
BTW, have you ordered many Apple books? I'm just curious about their quality. I'm going to order some for Christmas for family gifts, and they would be thrilled with the photos I restored if I printed them at home; but for professional work, I'm a bit pickier.
Thanks again. Now I don't feel so dumb.

  • HT204364 I'm creating a 'book' from an album in iPhoto.  I have downloaded the latest version.  However, I have selected a certain book i.e. wire bound, 19 page and when I'm creating it, it indicates 33 pages for one, and 42 pages for another.  How can I

I'm creating a book from an album in iPhoto.  I have downloaded the latest version of iPhoto.  When I choose a book, i.e. wirebound, 19-20 page book, it shows a 42 page book when I am populating the pictures in the book I've selected.  Is that because I have more pictures in the album?
In any case, I can't seem to manipulate/choose the number of pages I want.  How can I stick with the 20 page book I want?
    Thanks.

You can not select the "number of pages" - you select the photos and the page layours and the number of pages comes form that - with Autoflow iPhoto uses random page layouts so the number of pages is rando=m
You can change layouts to include more photos, move photos to the pages with no empty photos frames and then delete the pages at the end after the photos are used elsewhere

  • How can I turn "pages" files into a bound book?

    Hi,
I am putting together a portfolio for tenure and promotion at my college. I'd like to create the manuscript using Pages2 so that I can add photos of my students in the practicum setting, etc. Then, I'd like to print my book through Apple's iphoto. Is that possible? I would love to know how to do this.
(I did find an online company, but they post the books online too, and I can't do that because of permissions -- many of my photos were taken in public schools.)
    Thank you,
    Anne

iPhoto has a very good yearbook template. Simply add your photos to iPhoto and select the photos and click on the 'book' icon on the toolbar. Assemble your book from there and then print it to a pdf or send it to Apple's publisher. This is really the easiest way to do it.
While I think this is cool for beginners, I personally like using Pages because I can play with the formatting more.
To make a booklet in Pages use the free CocoaBooklet. This neat app takes individual pages and imposes them in the correct order in a pdf document booklet. It is indispensable for long, extended projects.
Since pdf's are cross platform you may be able to bring a CD with the pdf into a printing company and have them bind the book for you. You can also do it yourself with Book Binding Equipment. I saw a fairly inexpensive set up at Staples.
For my booklets I have created two different custom paper sizes in my print dialogue:
    Letter half (5.5x8.5)
    Legal half (7x8.5)
I put my Pages docs in one of these sizes and work on the pages one at a time until I am done. Then I use CocoaBooklet to make them into a pdf booklet.
To create these custom page sizes so they are available in every doc:
    1. Open Pages and select a blank doc.
    2. Open the Inspector and click on the tab to the far left to open the page setup dialogue.
    3. Click on the Page setup button.
    4. In the top pull-down menu (Pages Attributes) select 'custom page size'.
    5. Click on the 'new' button
    6. Create your new custom size by entering the measurements in the boxes provided and then name the size.
    7. Click o.k
Now this size will appear anytime you go to page setup.

  • Book ordering problem in iPhoto 7.1.5

Everytime I try to order a book it looks like all is going well and after it gets to "transferring" an error message pops up that says, "an error occurred while uploading one of your files. Please check your connection and click Retry" There is nothing wrong with my connection, my files aren't corrupted, I removed the iPhoto.plist to the desktop as suggested and I still can't order the book. This is SOOOOOO frustrating. Any help would be most appreciated.
    D

I am having the EXACT same issue and I am also using iPhoto 7.1.5! It is extremely frustrating and I have spoken to so many people from the Apple support Team. I ordered a book using the iPhoto '06 just fine (using the same connection). I am beginning to believe that there is something wrong with this version; however, I need to order a Wire Bound book and the '06 won't let me do that. What can I do? I do not want to re-create the book for the 5th time. I am already frustrated. Please help!

  • Notes on receiving my first iPhoto book ever

I thought a "results" or review post might be useful to someone out there in the future, especially as Apple says you can order books until the 14th, for Christmas delivery.
Overall--I'm happy. I had already ordered four additional books as gifts, on spec because I started the process too late. I'm confident they will be nice gifts that my family appreciates. I'll order again in the future, but I will pick different photos. Also, I will pay extra for express shipping when doing a test run. That was silly.
I ordered a hardcover book using the Picture Book theme.
Time--ordered one night, shipped two nights later (6pm 12/5)--arrived morning of 12/12, standard shipping.
Packaging--my book arrived in a nice Apple box within the FedEx box, and the packing slip showed my name but not the price. So I would feel comfortable sending a package directly to someone as a gift (assuming the non-hardcovers arrive similarly, and Apple doesn't already have the "send a gift" option).
Quality--The feel is very nice--it looks quite professional. The spine on the dustjacket shows the main title of the book. The foil imprint on the hard cover, showing main title and subtitle on the front, is lovely.
Photos--People said something about photos coming up darker. I would say that the colors are not as vibrant as they look on my screen, not exactly darker but less bright and shiny. Detailed close-ups are mostly fine--outside scenic shots don't really convey that it was a beautiful sunny day.
My main displeasure is with the cover/dustjacket. In iPhoto, it looks like it's going to be white. In reality, it looks like Apple took a bright white sheet and a bright photo and then washed the whole piece of paper with gray. Almost like putting vellum over an invitation, or printing onto vellum or recycled paper. This may be specific to the Picture Book theme. It's not unattractive--it's fine--but it's a place where I definitely didn't get what I expected. On the other hand, I had a photo that was really too dark on the front inside flap, that showed as very dark on my computer--and it looks better than expected. The smaller outdoor shots on the back and rear inside flap are completely acceptable. Doing it again, I would have picked a different photo for the cover, maybe used multiple photos.
The inside page photos are pretty much fine--almost as bright and clear as on my computer. My blue skies are all a bit gray-blue. Skies that were already gray-blue in iPhoto just look grayish. Shots that are a bit shadowed look almost better than I expected--even though they are busy with lots of detail, they look good. Some dark shadowed trees in a background look greener and lighter than on my computer. Close-ups on a colorful mosaic look great. The four-picture page of us in shops, buying things, which I didn't like at all in iPhoto, looks great in the book.
So if I'd had a chance to tweak the other copies, I would used fewer big blue sky shots (I had used a lot, sadly) and risked more interior/shadowed/busy shots. I guess the printing process is optimized for family photos of people rather than scenic picture books, understandably.
I rarely print photos, so I literally did ZERO editing of the photos, because I wasn't sure what to change for best results. Yet, overall, I am pleased. And I was using a point-and-shoot Canon SD 700, I'm not a good photographer, and I don't do a good job capturing skies anyhow. But all my photos were taken on the highest resolution, and I picked the best ones. If I had gotten the book in time, I might have done some research on trying to enhance the blue skies for the later copies. But I probably would have decided I didn't have the time and that it was fine as is, aside from the cover.
Gutter--in the wire-bound book, iPhoto shows you where the wire will cut into a full-bleed picture. It doesn't do as good a job with the hardcover book--definitely more of the picture is lost into the gutter than I expected. This is a minor annoyance in only two spreads, but I'll certainly be careful about this with hardcover books in the future.
Complaints--I'll probably send Apple feedback about iPhoto not being so accurate about the cover and the gutter, as it seems like they should be able to improve what iPhoto shows.

    Daiya:
Thanks for the feedback. You comments regarding the dust jacket is a common one among users here but more for too dark photos. Your post will give other first time users a good idea of what to expect.
Regarding the Time comment: your delivery time was just about the same as mine, ordered 12/6 and arrived 12/12, std shipping.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Odd number of pages

While creating a wire bound book, I've ended up with an odd number pages and no back cover (the last page is not labled back cover) nor is their a blank inside back cover. Have no idea how this happened. Changing themes or book styles doesn't change it. Do I need to recreate the book from scratch? Or is there some other way to repair this book?

That's the way it works with facing pages....

OK. Since I start a new library every year, and the current one has 8,000 photos, it would be nice to just start a new library with iPhoto 08, and leave the older libraries alone and just view them with iPhoto 06. The only way I can think of doing this is buying a new computer every year. Or I guess I could partition the hard drive and run iPhoto 06 on one partition. But the drive in the laptop is full, so I guess I could move the older libraries to the EHD, then partition, then install iPhoto 08 on the new partition, then create a new library.... But it would be great if I knew what the heck I was talking about!

  • Can't create a book in iPhoto 11 (9.5)

I am trying to create a new book in iPhoto, but when I select New>Book or Share>Create>Book, it opens the book editor (I guess you call it) with a frozen loading image, and that's it. I can't change from hard cover to softcover or wire bound, or select a theme.
I am using iPhoto '11 version 9.5 (902.7) on a Macbook Air with OSX 10.9
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Cheers.

I'm having the same issue on an iMac (also running 10.9). It happens when trying to create any of the "Projects" that iPhoto offers (book, calendar, or card). I just get a frozen loading image, and then iPhoto becomes unresponsive.
I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. I restarted the computer, deleted the iPhoto preference files, and even deleted the application and reinstalled it from the Mac App Store. No luck. I also tried creating an empty library and the problem happened there too. Anyone have any ideas?

  • IPhoto 08 book, calendar options not available

When I select some photos and then click the Book option, I get a dialogue that asks me to select Book Type with a pull-down menu. There are three options in the menu: Harcover, Softcover, Wire-bound Softcover, but all three are greyed out. So I cannot progress any further.
If I click Calendar instead, nothing happens at all.
If I click Card, I seem to get all the options, fully functioning, as you would expect. Only problem is, I don't want a card; I want a book or calendar... Can anyone advise what I can do to get one, please?

Are you able to print a photo? Do you get any message about themes being missing? If so then:
    Restoring iPhoto Themes
First look in your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If you find it there move it to the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder and reboot. Then try iPhoto again. That may save you having to go thru the reinstallation process described below:
1 - delete the current application.
2 - delete any files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in your HD/Library/Receipts folder.
3 - delete the Themes folder from the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder. Also look in the User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there then delete it also.
4 - mount the system disk that came with your computer, double click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" file and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
After installing reinstall the latest iPhoto updater again followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime version.

  • IPhoto Picture Book larger than 28 x22cm - how do I specify?

A few years ago, I made an iPhoto book using the Picture Book theme that was larger than 28x22cm. Now, when I try to order a book, I am only able to choose within the Picture Book theme from the hard, soft and wire bound options, and I don't have any ability to change the size of the book. I'm ordering from NZ.
Does anyone know whether there is any way to buy a larger book using Picture Book? Does another theme give you that option?
    Thanks so much!
