Wire gauge for the BNC-2120

The User Guide for the BNC-2120 specifies AWG 24 maximum. But the connector openings look much larger. What is the reason for the limitation to such a small wire? Thanks. Wayne

The 24 awg rating is just what the connectors are designed to use. The manual says not to use a larger wire - just to be explicit, it means don't use a smaller gauge wire (as you mention).
The insulation stripping spec is similar. It is the length of wire that fully fills the connector without having extra to bend or accidentally get pushed aside to short another connector.
These are specified to make using it easier for you, and to keep unintended stress and shorts out of the system.
Hope that clears the intention of the specs up.

  • Where can I get a pin diagram for the BNC-2120 DAQ Boaard?

I am using a NI BNC-2120 DAQ Board and a couple of the pins seem to have been damaged. I was looking for a pin diagram to so that I can check to see what these pins correspond to and if they could be contributing to some of the unusual readings we are getting.

I'm assuming that the damaged pins you are referring to are on the back of the connector block where the cable plugs in.
The BNC-2120 Accessory is able to be used with several different families of data acquisition products, and therefore the meaning of the pins could possibly depend on which particular data acquisition device you are connecting to the BNC-2120.
You can find many of the generic pinouts for E series 68-pin devices in the DAQ-mx Help:
    http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/95ADFF85ABA7853986256D8800668AE2?opendocument
If you are using an M series device, the following lists its corresponding pinout, which is nearly identical:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/61ED77983AD7CCA386256F66008215F1
If you let me know which device you are using and which pins you suspect are damaged, I could give you more information on what effect it might have.

  • What is the max sampling frequency of a BNC-2120

my windows platform is NT and i have labview 6.1

    Hi Ulises,
I don't quite undersatnd what you mean? The BNC-2120 is a connector block which interfaces to E-Series and 671x boards. The BNC-2120 simplifies the connection of real world signals to the DAQ device. There is no sampling rate you can set. The limiting factor of the samplingrate is the DAQ Device you're using, not the BNC-2120.
    I hope I haven't misunderstood your question.

  • Ground loop + BNC 2120 behaving like antenna(problem)

    Hi,
I am using DAQ 6024E, and using two sensors and one error message "data is overwritten before it could be read
by the system try divide the signal before measurement" --it took me whole day as to what data is going inside that my computer with 900Mhz processor is unable to handle. I started tearing my hardware step by step. I looked at my range sensor which has one LED which blinks as it throws waves out - but the moment my motors gains speed all of a sudden my labview generates error that "data overwritten before it could be read by the system", now at the same time I looked at my range sensor and instead of blinking slowly like persec it was blinking continuously without break so I took the wire out which was going into the BNC 2120 and the sensor becomes stable again.
I thought that may be the wire is picking up RF signal from motors so I changed all the wires with shielded insulated wire but again as I switched my motors on labview generates the same error. If motors stays off there is no error. I felt my BNC is acting like antenna and is catching motor RF signals. I took motor out of the circuit and supplied separate voltage from another power supplier and it confirmed me that moment my motor speeds up the range sensor speed of blinking increases but If I take out the signal wire going into BNC 2120 then there is no effect on range sensor and it works fine steady. moment I connect BNC with sensor and motors ON then sensor behave erratically with led blinking extremely rapidly.
So it is confirmed that nothing is wrong with hard ware of computer but some strange phenomenon.
Now next I powered my controller with a battery and motors with another power supply to break the loop but problem not solved, I think there is some ground loop thing going on and that is making BNC 2120 as antenna for RF signal created by motor.
That's why initially at less voltage/speed VI works fine but as motors speed up VI stops working and generating the error " data is overwritten before it could be read
by the system try divide the signal before measurement"
I hope now you are in better situation to understand what is happening and how can I stop BNC wire to act like this, remember I am using good insulated shielded wire.
    Thanks

I've got fast fingers, I play lead guitar in a rock n roll band (nah, just wish I did, but I do play lead guitar - just a bit rusty at it right now). I've spent the last 20+ years being a test engineer at various places. I learned from some of the best at AT&T and Bell Labs (when they were a big dog in the 80's). Before that I was a mobile radio repair technician for 8 years. Learned RF and electronic repair on the job. Troubleshooting background has helped me tremendously in the test engineering world. Also spent three years doing SCADA engineering so I am familiar with PLCs (Motorola, Allen Bradley, and GE Fanuc) and HMI software (Wonderware and GE Cimplicity). SCADA was fun, but I prefer the RF world.
Getting back to the problem, you give good advice about grounding only one end of the shielded cables. Grounding both ends does cause problems with non RF signals. A scope will go a long way to determine where the problem is coming from. But since he mentioned ultra sonic sensors, I am wondering if the problem is actual sonic noise from the motor. I would not be able to hear it because I lost all hearing above 12KHz from all that loud guitar playing when I WAS in a rock n roll band.
BTW, your name reminds me of the Rush song, Analog Kid, and also of the progression of analog synthesizers to digital ones, and now there is a movement back to the analog dinosaurs again.

  • Is it possible to install a BNC-2120 to a PCI-1200

SH6850, SC5068 and D6850 (cables for 50-68 pins adapters) do not have the PCI-1200 pinout. Is there any adapters to interface a PCI-1200 to a BNC-2120?

    Hello;
Unfortunately, the BNC-2120 is meant to be conneted to E-series DAQ devices only. It won't work with the 1200 series.

  • Generate Digital Pulses BNC 2120

    Hello,
I am new to LabView and I am trying to use a DAQ Assistant to generate a discrete number of digital square pulses to be fed to a stepper motor driver via BNC 2120.  But I don't know how to go about doing this.
I had an idea that I would use a Timed Sequence with 2 frames, the first frame would have a DAQ in it, and there would be a 1-D array of Boolean (TRUE) input in to the "'data" field of the DAQ.
Then the second frame would have a DAQ in it, and there would be a 1-D array of Boolean (FALSE) input in to the "'data" field of the DAQ.
But like I said I am very new to LabView and so I don't know if this approach makes sense. Please offer some suggestions!

    Hi all.
I am currently doing a final year project to run six stepper motors using labview.
I was using an arduino mega to control the motors. When I had wrote the program to control the motors realized I only had enough outputs to control one motor.
Now I intend on using the BNC 2120 to generate the pulses to run the motors but I have no idea where to start.
Any help would go along way.
I am using 6 Digital inputs for each motor. i have attached the VI i am using
    thanks in advance

  • Can I use a BNC-2120 with my AT-MIO-16L9

    Hello
I am working here at the Colorado School of Mines and trying to figure out this small problem.
    Can I use a BNC-2120 with my AT-MIO-16L9?
The BNC-2120 says it will work with E series, M series MIO boards but I am not sure what series mines is?
Any infor would be greatly appreicated
    J

    Hello J,
Now that's an older card!  the BNC-2120 should work with the
    AT-MIO-16L-9, you'll need a 50 pin to 68 pin connector, and you'll want
to verify that the signals are being routed to the proper
terminals.  Here's the signal routing chart for reference.

  • Wire diagramm for 4 pin Headset plug on iOS devices

How is the wire diagram for the 4 pin plug for Earphone/Headset plug for iOS Devices, such as iPhone, iPad etc.? I read somewhere that there must be a 1,5k resistor between Mic and Speaker, which has to do with the switch to take a call on the standard apple headset. Is that true?

Yeah, I've tried 5 out of the 7 steps shown in their troubleshooter.  The sixth step is one that is a major pain and I doubt would fix the problem: Reinstall iTunes.  I know enough about PCs to feel about 80% confident that this step would not fix the issue.  Plus, it's a major hassle with re-adding music to the collection.  Nevertheless, I will look at it as a last ditch effort.
The seventh step is extremely vague and doesn't really help.  "There might be a software conflict."  Fine, but there's no way to find any such conflict, if one even exists in the first place, without a heavy dose of trial-and-error, several hours of time, dozens of reboots, and the patience of Job.
However, they do list some other steps that I'll try when I get home, such as making sure certain services are installed and running.  I'll post my results here.  Thanks, wiclee.

  • BNC 2120 compatibility with Matlab 2011a & SIT

    Hello,
I am trying to read data from the BNC 2120 device into Simulink. I also need to use SIT to communicate the data output from the model with LabVIEW.
I am currently using Matlab 2011a and LabVIEW 2012.
The problem I face is that the hardware is not recognized when I use the data acquisition toolbox.
Please let me know what can be done to fix this problem.
    Thanks
    Bharat

    Hi Bharat,
The BNC 2120 is a connector block so it may not show up in the Data Acquisition Toolbox. What will show up is the DAQmx device you have connected to the block. You can find a list of supported DAQmx devices here, https://www.mathworks.com/products/daq/supported/ni-daqmx.html .
    I hope this helps.

  • Midi ports line in ports Fire Wire etc on the Audigy 2 platinum, new Creative Driver for Vis

Hi, I have been using my Audigy 2 platinum dri've for a few years now and have been very pleased with it, the main things I do on my pc is music creation mainly Midi but also some analogue audio as well, I also do lots of video making. I am just about to build a new system with Vista ultimate as the platform, I currently use XP Pro. I have little use for Creative?s own software and personally I do not think it is that good, I know Creative have released a new driver for my sound card But, my question is will my Midi port connections and things like my line in and the auxiliary ports and the fire wire port on the front platinum panel work with this new driver, and without the Creative software installed on my pc, and as we all no by now it looks like we will not be seeing any at all, or not for ages yet. you see I am a wheelchair user and I can not readily fiddly about a the back of my pc that is why a bought the sound blaster so I can easily plug in and unplug what I like, can anyone give me some help or advice on this issue please. ??

Guess I wasn't clear enough. I have uninstalled the soundcard and reinstalled over a dozen times even going so far as making sure all the drivers that the device properties lists are really deleted from the system. I have resinstalled DirectX at least twice using the latest version from MS. The only thing I have not done with DirectX so far is installed the SDK version which I will be doing eventually anyway. I even uninstalled and then reinstalled my video card as it shared files with the sound card. As for getting the latest version of openAL I see little point in that as Windows forces openAL through DirectX anyway and none of my games use it. Nor does the device depend on it to work. Any other suggestions?

  • New 5th generation headphones keep turning on and off my music. Which wire do I cut to disconnect the control system for the right earbud

The wires are probably loose in the rubber and the control panel on the right ear bud keep turning on and off my music, summoning s voice, and turning up and down my music. It's really obnoxious and I would like to know which wire to cut to disconnect the control panel. Thanks.

I had exactly the same issue when connecting my new BLACK 60mb Video iPod to connect to my PC via USB 2.0.
The iPod kept Crashing & Freezing also iTunes become unstable and very slow, it kept saying "unable to write to disk" every 5 minutes and I had to disconnect & re-connect for the same message to show again in 5 mins later, it eventually told me not to disconnect the iPod. However, after 30 mins i just did it.
I then opened iPod updater and re-attached my ipod with USB 1.
This seemed to take an age to recognise (5 mins +) but bear with it. Once it was connected I reinstated to factory settings, once I did this it automatically told me to update my software to 1.1.1.
When I then opened iTunes it again took 5 mins to connect, but it then started to transfer my music, which took over 6 hours to do 22MB.
Having said that I have had no "can not write messages"
Today I have conencted (again taking 5 mins to connect) but it has transfered over 1000 photos in under 4 mins and updated all tunes.
    hope this helps,

  • What monitor is the best for gauging what the printed document will look like?

I am working on a 300+ page book that contains a lot of photos that I have converted from color to grayscale in photoshop. I am using a laptop computer and I cannot judge the quality of the photos on this laptop monitor. What is the best monitor for gauging what the finished product will look like? It is a hardcover book that will be offset printed. I do not know if this particular printer uses computer-to-plate technology or if it is "old style." Thanks!

If you are talking about judging the tonality of the grayscale images there are 2 color profiles that affect the display of a grayscale image. The monitor's profile-- the profile that is created when the monitor is calibrated and describes your monitor's display. And the gray profile that is assigned to the image, if no gray profile is assigned Photoshop's working gray profile is used. By default it is 20% Dot Gain. The accuracy of your grayscale image display depends on how accurate your monitor profile is and the accuracy of the gray profile. You can choose the default 20% Dot Gain but it might not be the press profile.

  • Can I get stepped out put voltage signal for controls from the BNC with Labview?

    Hi!
I am new user to NI Labview. I am working in controls applied in Combustion sciences. I want control the Solenoid valve ( Jefferson made,230 V, 11 W) in stepped manner. BNC (2110) is used for the input signal (Piezoelectric pressure transducers) and output signal. The maximum out put voltage from BNC is 5 V. Can I get the out put voltage in stepped and increasing order to ensure the better controls of the solenoid valve?
Also I would like to know, is it possible for me to control the working frequency ( Injecting) of the solenoid valve with the help of Lab view?
    Thanks.
    With Regards,
    Ganesh

Just having the same issue there, which is real not fun, I have not tried to contact them, but looking at  your experience I am not sure if I should.
My key comes from the back of a laptop o so I guess that would be a W7
OEM, and that could explain why you can't download a ISO from their website, would that also your case ?
Also could it be because we are attempting to get the ISO after the product became EOL ?

Maybe I will give a go with the customer care people and maybe I will get a right answer ;)
