Wire less connection

My daughters laptop connects to the intenet wirelessly however sometimes the connection allows only local access. I have other laptops in the house that have no problem they run vista and xp. This is a new laptop running vista. Tech support is no help and my whole family wants us to chage back to cable. Any ideas?

The default ESSID (wireless network name) and the default WEP key (wireless network password) are both printed on a sticker on the bottom of the router.
It is just a matter of finding the network that matches the ESSID in your wireless software, clicking connect, and when prompted for the key/password, type in the WEP key
If entered incorreclty, it may seem like you are connected, but you are reall not....
Make sure to type the WEP key EXACTLY as it is on the sticker....
If need be, reset the router with a paperclip or pen in the reset hole on the back of the router for 15 seconds, reboot the PC and try again.
If still not working, but another wireless device is... like the last guy stated, it would not be a Verizon issue.

period this is occurring.But now i am really struggling to use the internet.I have tried my laptop vendor support and Microsoft support both failed to provide a solution.Please help me to resolve.I have installed the Wifi driver from real tek site many times

You can refer to this blog, and try to roll back to the older version of network adapter driver to check the results. Other suggestions can also be used to troubleshoot your issue.

Meanwhile, please check with the manufacturer of your router to update the firmware.
If the issue persists, please help to collect following information for further research:
1) Enable RAS Tracing on the client.
- Over an Administrative command prompt.
- C:\> netsh ras set tracing * enabled
2) On the client enable the following log as well:
- Over an Administrative command prompt.
- C:\> netsh trace start scenario=netconnection capture=yes tracefile=c:\net.etl
3) Now, turn off Wireless adapter on the client and Turn it back ON for making it to authenticate. Once it fails to connect to the Wireless network, proceed to the next step.
4) Disable RAS Tracing on the client.
- Over an Administrative command prompt.
- C:\> netsh ras set tracing * disabled
5) On the client disable the following log as well:
- Over an Administrative command prompt.
- C:\> netsh trace stop
6) Please provide the following files:
From the Client:
a) ZIP folder of C:\Windows\Tracing
b) C:\Net.etl and C:\Net.cab
Upload these files in SkyDrive and post back the shared link.

I would know if it is possible to know if a wire (in the caller VI) is connected to the subVI control ,or not.
- There is any function to test a control to know if it is wired in the caller VI, or not ?

- Do I test control defaults values and determine if a wire is connected ?

I am not sure if this is of any help. But if click on a connector in the connector pane. You can specify some options. I often use the "is required" option for important input data. If a connector of this type is not wired. An error and a broken arrow will be the result. The VI will not run before the problem is corrected.

Fire Wire 800 connections

Am thinking about getting an external hard drive that uses Fire Wire 800 connection. Than realized there is only 1 800 port on this G5. So if I wanted to use another 800 port, it doesn't exist. Not to worry say some, 800 devices can be chained. Not to worry say others, there are 800 hubs just like USB has hubs.
Are any of these truth? What are the facts?

I understand what you are saying. On the main-line computers you hook many devices to a selector channel BUT only one device at a time can perform I/O; on a multi-plexor channel all devices can function at a higher speed than on a selector BUT still not up to their maximum. I would be reluctant to chain a device that would be operating at the same time as another device in the chain.
If chaining is possible, you would need in AND out ports, shades of the SCSI, wouldn't you. I've seen several small (160-250GB) but only one showed me a picture and it appeared to have 1 each USB, 400, and 800 therefore, no way to chain. The others gave me no reason to think they had "out" ports.

You need to get the cable to restore the ATV to factory settings, following the procedure here.
USB mini cables are available from many different sources; often even from local stores like CVS or Walgreens. They are inexpensive, as little as a few dollars online & around $5 from some local discount stores.

Hey I've had a xi fi platinum for more than a year now but only now am I attempting to use spdif optical rather than analog. the only way to do that is to connect the dri've (which previously i didn't have connected) to the card. but i lost the wires that connect the card to the dri've. does anyone know where I can get them, or if it is possible to purchase them from creative? or, is there another way to connect optical to the platinum?

Now a question for all of you digital experts. Is there any particular reason why the S/PDIF connection from the X-Fi to my HT receiver is sounding inferior to the S/PDIF connection from my DVD player? The cable run from the X-Fi output is a bit long (75 ft.), but I didn't think that would matter as it's impossible to distort a digital signal. Is there perhaps a setting in the audio console that is messing up the signal?

DSN Less Connections

The majority of our ASP pages use a DSN Less connection. An example is
Set dbConnection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
dbConnection.open "Provider=MSDAORA;Data Source=tnsname;User ID=username;Password=password"
However I cannot get this to work with the instant client. I can even change the provider to "Oracle in instantclient10_2" and it errors out. DSN Connections like the one below work great
Set dbConnection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
dbConnection.open "DSN=dsn_name;UID=username;PWD=password"
But I do not really want to go around to all of web servers and recode them (nor make the programmers do it). Is there a way to use DSN Less connections with Instant Client? Am I using incorrect syntax, or is it just not possible currently?

I finally found an example that worked. The biggest clue to troubleshooting these connection is to reboot the server as IIS reset does not always clean up its cache.
Anyway the answer was this

If your printer is on this list, then it's an air print enabled printer and your iPad should print to it with no other fiddling.
If it's not an air print printer you can look in the app store and see if Brother has any apps that can help you, or any work arounds they support.
if not, then you can look into third party printing apps. I used print n share, but I also see printopia and print central recommended, and I'm sure there are others.

You can use an IP address instead of a hostname, if that is what you mean.

3-wire RTD connection to SCXI-1306

I have read the NI Manual for 3-wire RTD connection with SCXI-1306 but I couldn't understand completely.
Where to connect each cable is understood: one RED cable in AI-; Black to AI+; and Black-2 to IEX+. Like Fig. 4 from SCXI-1306 Terminal Block Manual.
My question is regarding the switches: the manual shows only 2 swiches (Fig 4) and the first is down and secound up. Looking at the Terminal Block there are 4 switches and not only 2.
How should I place the switches?

DSN less connection from VB 5?

while I could get some information on creating DSN less connections into SQL Server with Visual Basic 5 on the Microsoft site, I could not get these tips to work with our Oracle server (what a surprise).
Maybe somebody here can tell me what I am doing wrong:
The Service name of our server in TNSNames is acesa1.cp.chbs
I have a Dataobject on my form in VB5 and set its connect property like:
Data1.Connect = "ODBC;DRIVER=Oracle73;UID=user;PWD=password;SERVER=acesa1.cp.chbs"
I set the recordsource property and do a Data1.Refresh.
I get error ODBC connection to Oracle73acesa1.cp.chbs failed.
Obviously there is something wrong.

Solved my problem already. I was copying the code I use for DSN less connections in Visual Foxpro, but made a typo.
For all who are interested in the solution, here is the code I use to set the connect property:
Data1.Connect = "ODBC;DRIVER=Oracle73;UID=userid;PWD=password;DBQ=acesa1.cp.chbs;"
The important part is the DBQ parameter, SERVER or DATABASE are not used by the Oracle ODBC drivers.

10g - DSN Less Connect

I'm looking for a way to use Microsoft odbc to create a dsn-less connection to an Oracle 10g database using vbscript. The script will run from client OS' on both XPsp2 (mdac2.8) and VistaBusiness-x32 (windows dac 6.0)
The script will call a stored procedure that strips the colons, spaces, dashes or periods in the stored mac_address item then query the server with a mac address and receive the workstation name and a few other items stored in the db. I will be sending the mac address with no colons, etc.
From what I've gleaned from other sources, the following should be close but I want to check before I go to my db guy for query help.
strConnection="Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle}; Server=OracleServerName;uid=username;pwd=password;"
set conn=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
conn.Open strConnection
Any code on executing the function and querying for the provided mac address would be helpful since I'm completely clueless... which comes first, the chicken or the egg..

connection on a stock xp or vista box.I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here. Are you suggesting that you'd export the data on the server to a CSV file, copy that to a network share, and have your application create an ODBC connection to the CSV file?
Are you wedded to installing absolutely nothing else? The Oracle Instant Client, for example, just requires copying 3 or 4 DLLs to a directory & setting some environment variables in order to install a minimal Oracle client and ODBC driver (though it won't work with the Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle). That's normally a pretty minimal burden for an application to include in its installation scripts.
