Wired Aluminium Keyboard acting very weirdly

Hey guys,
My keyboard has all of a sudden, started acting really weirdly, and keys are doing things they shouldn't.
Whenever I type the "S" Key, the music will stop and when I press again, the music will resume playing.
When I press the "D" Key, it comes out as D=
Also, I have to press the backspace key at least 10 times for it to backspace one character.
Has anyone had any problems like this with their keyboard?
My iMac is only 1 week old.
Alot of other weird things happen as well such as the music glitching when I use the caps lock key.
Also I tried my Aluminium keyboard off my other Mac and it works perfectly without any of these problems I experience when using the other keyboard.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Things I've tried:
- Restart/ Shutdown
- Unplug all USB Device except keyboard
- PRAM Reset
None of these have worked.

I found this in the Help Viewer:
Some keys don't work as expected
Open Speech preferences in System Preferences. If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key combination to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--change to a more obscure key combination (try to use more modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, simply disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Open Universal Access preferences in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab, and make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In Universal Access preferences, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see this article.
If the issue persists, open System Preferences and click International.
Click the Input Menu tab.
Click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox to select it.
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If you have exhausted every trouble shooting tip possible, you might want to take the keyboard back for a replacement. Your iMac is certainly under warranty.

  • My iPod Touch was acting very weird, and now the sleep button is unresponsive

Just yesterday morning, my iPod didn't turn on.
When I tried to turn it on, it didn't turn on, so I went to itunes to try to restore it. I downloaded the 700MB update, and left for school, leaving the iPod at home. I came back to find the screen turned on, however, it was acting very very strange. At first, I thought the battery was dead, even though I fully charged it the day before. First when I'm using it, the screen blacks out, flashes, and it constantly asks me to slide to power off, when I didn't press anything. Did a hard reset, and an update/restore, but it didn't fix the problem.
Afterwards, I noticed that the strange behavior stopped. Everything was functional again, except this time, the sleep button no longer works. I press the power button, and nothing happened. I can't even do a hard reset. I can't turn it off. The button isn't stuck though.
I don't know what's going on, but I need my sleep button, because if anything happens to this iPod, I won't be able to reset it. I restored it twice, and the issue was not resolved.
If anyone knows how to fix it, please tell me. I really need the sleep button. Just keep in mind that the sleep button is unresponsive, and I won't be able to do a reset.
If not, can you recommend me an ipod app that can put your ipod to sleep instead of using the button?

Unfortunately, I don't think it solved the problem. I believed the new iPod thing solved the weird behavior problem, but after that the button stopped working.
Do you know how to contact Genius? Because I don't think I can find a store in my area, when I tried to.

  • Wired aluminium keyboard

I just got the new aluminium keyboard for my iMac and I've been experiencing some static with the frame. Is this normal? Should I be worried about this?

You are in Alberta....I feel your pain. I cannot close my car door by hand, forget answering a landline phone and oh the panic when I need to fill the gas tank on my car.
I have found in the house, by taking off my "house-shoes" the static charge is reduced as I am grounded. Look to your feet for the cure, keep away from fleece clothing as well.

  • My laptop keyboard acting really weird

I just bought my computer a few days ago and starting last night, every time I pressed "p", shows "*' and the 0 shows "/", unless I press the fn key and p key at the same time.
Here are some of the other keys that are acting weird:
    ; shows -
    / shows +
    ? shows +
Was there some combination key I pressed to change these? If there was, can you *lease let me know because it's getting very annoying.
    Thank you.

It sounds like you have one of those standard laptop keyboards that numlock
    changes things.
Try pressing numlock again.  You might have to press the Fn key too...

  • Wired aluminium keyboard BAD quality

Hi everyone, i have been experiencing fatal failure to aluminium wired keyboards with no option to fix it. I have 120 computers all with wired keyboards and lately during the past 6 months, at least 40 of them had failure:
    - stuck + sign so it keeps autostriking all the time
    - partial working keyboard
    - totally dead keyboard
    - keys dont match what is typed
It seems like a firmware corruption problem but apple´s genius designed the firmware update to be performed  just once, after that the system recognizes the latest firmware installed in the keyboard there is no way to do it again.
40 failing keyboards are too much. Is just that i got the whole failing lot?
Have anyone found a way to fix that?
I have another 12 "old" keyboards (same aluminium KB) from 4 years ago and 8 of those are out of warranty and completely dead
I believe a keyboard is something that should live longer than a computer but nowadays apple products are becoming disposable.
    best

The older aluminum wired keyboards you have probably won't work with the newer Macs you have as these keyboards have a different version number.
Apple keeps revising these wired aluminum models and the older versions, at some point, do not work with new or newer Macs.
There is really no fixing these. They either work or they don't
Are you asking for a better Apple replacement keyboard?
Here is the Creme de la Creme of Apple replacement keyboards.

Or look at Kensington or Macally for good Apple replacement input devices.

  • Has anyone had issues with the touch screen acting very weird since updating to ios7?

Since I updated my 4S to iOS 7, the touch screen has great latencies and I can press something in one part of the screen and it activates something in another. The problem is even worse if the phone is plugged into power.
Is there some way to go back to iOS 6? This makes my phone almost useless.

Apple does not support iOS downgrades.
    Have you tried a reset?
Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)
You can also try a settings reset.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
You will not lose any data but it will reset the settings in your Settings app.

  • DAC Scheduler acting very odd

    Greetings,
I currently have DAC setup to kick off an execution plan every 1 week from Monday through Friday, but for some reason it's been acting very weird. The schedule jumps and default to every 2 weeks instead of the specified 1 week criteria. Does anybody have any issue with that? Or do you know where I would go to troubleshoot exactly why DAC is doing that?
    Thanks in advance!
    Alvin

    Hi
Just an idea , may be you can check the scheduler related API (availability of Jar files) in your version of DAC. For eg. i had a similar issue when my scheduler wasnt working for
daylight saving timezone which I was able to get a fix by applying updatetool patch of Oracle

  • Use the new aluminium keyboard on a PC with Windows XP

    Hello all,
That post is describing the problems I have when using the new apple aluminium keyboard on a PC using the windows XP keyboard drivers found on the boot camp CD (1.4)
This is my first post here so please be kind with me
First, let me know in case there is a better section where I should post that post.
I know that what I will ask here may not be a supported scenario. I understand that. But anyway. Here it is.
I am using Windows XP on a PC not a mac computer.
I bought one of the new aluminium keyboards. I love it, it's excellent. I know that the box says it requires mac os X 10.4 and up... I understand al that.
Because it is an USB keyboard, I thought I like it, let's try it on a PC. It worked but the letters on the keyboard are not placed like those on a PC.
Then I tought, why not use the driver for that keyboard provided on the bootcamp CD. I bought the keyboard. I own all my licences, so why not?
First I had a lot of troubles extracting those drivers from the bootcamp CD. I use Transmac for that.
A long story short. It's working and I'm typing that post right now on my cool keyboard.
so why am I here? Because it's not working perfectly.
All the keys are working perfectly, only the companion softwares are not.
I'm unable to launch the bootcamp dashboard, I have the icon in my systray but when I try to open the dashboard I get:
    Boot Camp
An error occurred while trying to access the startup disk settings.
You may not have privileges to change the startup disk. Make sure you have administrative privileges and try again.
    OK
I understand that. I guess this is related to the boot camp dual boot feature.
I guess that if this was working I could access to the bootcamp option panel and eventually have the opportunity to get access to the keyboard options? maybe I'm guessing wrong.
So, what I'm asking here is for the apple developpers working on the windows drivers for the apple hardware.
Do you think that you could test your drivers on PCs ? I'm pretty sure you could sell some more keyboard to the PC peoples as your keyboards are trully excellent.
The 'problems' I have are the following:
    - I cannot lock or unlock the fn key, what I would like to do is use the F7 to F12 keys by default and press the fn key if I ant to access to the scpecial features, like for sound and CD eject
    - kbrd.exe does not always start automaticaly. And when I start it by hand my computer freezes for about ten seconds
    - the keyboard layout should only be changed for the apple keyboard, not for all the keyboards connected to the PC. Because I have two keyboards attached to my computer, my previous pc keyboard and the new apple keyboard. The layout on the PC keyboard is now the same as for the apple keyboard. this is wrong as it renders my previous keyboard useless. why do I need another keyboard? because that other one is cable less, meaning I can use it to control my PC when I'm not in front of it. But now, with the apple keyboard drivers this is not longer possible
    - an option to have to press fn+eject to eject the CD would be nice. this will avoid me pressing eject by accident when I try to press the back delete key
    - also as the drivers exist, why not let people like me download them outside of bootcamp for the kind of scenario I'm describing here?
That would all be very nice.
If you need a tester for that scenario, count on me,
Thank you for your comprehension about me asking such a question
I love that keyboard and do not intend to stop using it,
    John.

    Hello spidermains,
Happy to see that I have a friend in that adventure
Look I have a blog entry here:
    http://www.happytocode.com/post/Can-I-use-the-new-Apple-USB-Aluminium-keyboard-o n-Windows.aspx
That post describes all the steps I followed to extract the drivers from the dual boot camp CD.
I'm using a PC, only a PC. I do not have any Apple computer (yet).
When I mention boot camp, I mean the boot camp CD on one side and the boot camp utilities on the other side. To be more specific the tool I'm talking about is the kbrmgr.exe
That tool sits in the systray and is handling the special keys of the keyboard.
If you have other questions... let me know,
    John.

  • New Aluminium Keyboard Vol/play/pause etc buttons wont work

Hello everyone, thank you for your time.
I'm screaming at my new keyboard, I bought another Apple Aluminium Wireless keyboard to replace my previous one from 2007 that essentially went nuts after the last update.....I couldnt use the up and down arrows, the shift key would "hold itself down" etc.
This new one wont let me use its play/pause, volume mute, down, and up etc buttons....I've remapped several Expose functions and Dashboard to work right, but you cant do anything for the audio control buttons....?
This is too much for me, I'm very angry at this odd problem. It seems SO simple, it should just work like my previous keyboard did....
I cant handle not having control of my iTunes music.... I could keep BOTH my Apple keyboards on and use one for play pause etc, and the other for everything else.....
I have a hint for what the problem might be, it seems this keyboard shows up as the "old" "fat white and clear plastic wireless keyboard", perhaps that keyboard didnt have the same functions as the Aluminium? When it disconnects from my Mac for example, I dont get correct "aluminium keyboard connection lost" side on icon, I get one of the larger older plastic keyboard....
I think this is the problem, that this keyboard identifies as the very old plastic model.....
Im going nuts over this very simple function of a keyboard....my last keyboard blew up after the update....ok, so I have to shell out another $120 NZD for a new keyboard...ok....I'm an Apple fan, I'll choke on my pride, and when it finally arrives, from Australia....it wont control iTunes like I do several times a day....
Can anyone help me? I tried using the firmware updates but it seems like it didnt even identify the keyboard...it showed nothing in the detection box....the keyboard was paired, probably showing up as another model of keyboard.....
    Very annoying!
Thank you very much for your help. I hope you have a great day.

alright its not doing it anymore after a restart. I think it was from plugging in a Logitech wireless mouse keyboard combo but i didn't use the keyboard so i didnt calibrate it. Sorry for the useless post.

  • Apple Aluminium Keyboard on OSX 10.3

Not sure where to post this as there's no specific "Other Apple Hardware" area
Will a Wired Apple Aluminium Keyboard work on 10.3 as the specs say 10.4 and above - it's a keyboard after all shouldn't it work on any Mac OS? OK maybe some of the special functions won't work (brightness, Expose) but I'd want to keep the volume and eject.

If you're talking about the new keyboards that came out in August, then no. The newest line of keyboards (aluminum) are only compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.10 and later. There are many 3rd party alternatives available, like from Logitech and Microsoft that look just as great. The reason behind this is due to driver issues and the personalized key assignments. Someone, somewhere has probably created drivers, but I wouldn't go looking for them, because they are most likely unsigned and unsafe. Besides, there are many good alternatives, including older Apple keyboards, like I said above.

  • Volume keys - aluminium keyboard

I found this problem in an earlier thread: - 'my iMac and aluminium keyboard F10-F12 keys worked perfectly for volume control -mute, decrease & increase respectively, until very recently; I am very new to Macs and have had no major problems up to this point, any suggestions would be very helpful.'
I have the same problem, but when I downloaded the suggested solution (keyboard software update 1.2), but my brand new iMac tells me that a newer version is already installed, so I haven't executed the installation. I am similarly new to Macs - help please!

    Hello,
Go to  menu > System Preferences... > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard tab. Then uncheck the option "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys".
    cheers

  • MacMini & wired aluminum keyboard

    Hi,
I have macmini coreduo and new wired aluminum keyboard.
the problem is keyboard is not responding before OS loaded.
i mean i cant choose OS what i want or i cant start with safe mode my windows because keyboard doesnt work before OS loaded.
ALT button is not working or any button when bootscreen is appeal.
WHY and is anyone know, how can i fix it ?

Hi. I'm new to this forum lark but as i saw your comment i thought i'd have a go at answering it for you. I had exactly the same problem yesterday and spent over an hour with Apple Support trying to resolve it. The problem is that the new 'slim aluminium' keyboard is not totally compatible with the little mac mini. There is a firmware issure that means that befor os X kicks in, it does not comunicate with the wired keyboard. The guy at tech help went off for further help his end after an hour of telling me i was not pressing the c key properly - as i was trying to boot from the cd - but whilst he was away i managed it. I got my old bluetooth keyboard out of it's box and reconnected that and when i rebooted with the c key on that depressed it worked just fine. When i told him that, he said there must be a fault with my new keyboard and that he'd send me a new one. He called back to say that Apple were aware that there was an issue with this keyboard and the mini and that i should just check for firmware updates as they are looking into it. Nice....

  • Problem connecting wired aluminum keyboard

I just bought a new wired aluminum keyboard to replace the (really unpleasant) white plastic model for my iMac 17" running 10.5.8.
As soon as I plug it in, however, I get an error message saying that the newly connected USB device is drawing too much current and the hub is being disconnected. The keyboard and mouse are rendered inoperable, and I must reconnect the old keyboard to continue.
The computer works flawlessly in all other respects.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
    GCW

    Thanks for your reply:
    1. Installation instructions call for making physical connection before dealing with any software updates. That is not possible with the problem I have.
    2. All software updates on the Apple Support site deal with minor keystroke glitch fixes. None indicate the need for an update to make the aluminum keyboard possible. If you know of one, I would be grateful to hear of it.
    3. The one software update I did download was already superseded by the software I had: I have been very good about all updates for the life of the computer.
    4. My other USB devices are a printer, a flash drive and an external disk. I cannot see any possible problem here.

  • Very weird font problem

I have a very weird and annoying font problem with the left menu bar of iTunes 8.2(23)
Some but not all menu items are displayed like a mix of Hebrew and unprintable caracters.
But once the menu item is selected, the font is back to normal !
The weired thing is that TV Series and Shopping cart menu items are displayed (in French, because the interface is in French) as expected.
I don't know if it is related, but I have Russian-PC keyboard installed too, Adobe CS4 (which installed Adobe fonts) and my OS interface is in French.

How did you go about finding this Lucida Grande.ttf? I did a search and didn't find it. I have the same weird font thing in itunes. I recently installed a whack of fonts from another computer. Any help would be appreciated.
