Wired Connection Works, but Wireless won't connect

I just got the Wireless-N Broadband Router and I have my Home computer connected to it through a LAN connection. And I have an internet connection. But on my Laptop the only thing that my WiFi connection picks up is HPsetup (Is this my Linksys Router?).. The Hpsetup has a very low connection by my Linksys Router. And the signal fades in and out.

what Conection protocol does your Laptop use?
PreN, 802.11g, 802.11b?

Reset the iPad and try again. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons, let the iPad start up.

I've been texting my friend with iMessage with wifi on and all of a sudden it changed to text message and won't let me send messages. My wifi is still on and working but it won't switch back to iMessage. Please help

What I recommend you try doing first is to turn iMessage off then back on.  If that doesn't work, make sure that your Apple ID and password are correct.  If everything seems correct and you still can't send out messages using iMessage instead of text message, I think you should either try calling AppleCare at 1-800-MY-IPHONE (1-800-694-7466) and/or scheduling an appointment at the Genius Bar at an Apple Store (that is, if there's one close to you).
    Hope this helps!

  • AEBS Wired network fine, but wireless internet connectivity intermittent

I'm really frustrated by this one, because a large number of people are describing a very similar problem, but are using different terms, so most of the forum and discussion replies are based around resetting the AEBS or modem. Resetting my AEBS and modem DOES fix this problem for up to a couple of hours. Resetting my AEBS 15x per day is not a solution.
My AEBS has been serving me perfectly for over a year. I have been using two iMacs, an iBook G4, iPod Touch, iPhone, AX (802.11b/g), Wii and PSP on the network. One of the iMacs is connected by ethernet, everything else is wireless.
I am not using every item on this list at all times; in fact, I'm generally using 1-2 of them at any given time.
For the past 4-5 days, my wireless devices stop accessing the internet sporadically. They remain connected to the AEBS with a legit IP Address, but just sit there waiting to load whatever I'm trying to access. My AEBS has a legit IP Address from my ISP, and my iMac that's connected by ethernet is not experiencing the connectivity problems. My Wii is connected to Netflix, I can sometimes watch up to an hour of a movie and the load time is fantastic, but then it will stop and buffer for 15 minutes. During that time, my other wireless devices stop responding.
None of my devices are getting 'error' messages, they just sit there and wait. I get the 'loading' icon on my iPod Touch, and "connecting" in Safari on the iBook.
AEBS mode: Create wireless network, WPA/WPA2 Personal
5GHz network: different network name altogether for Wii (video streaming) and AX (music streaming). Problem persists on both bands of the network.
Access Control is currently off, problem persists when set to Timed and each device listed.
Please understand... I'm not trying to be rude, but my problem is not that the devices won't connect to the network, and it is not that they won't connect to the internet... it is that the internet connection is intermittent while the devices remain connected to the network with good signal and legit connection information. It is not my internet connection, because the problem does not exist on wired connections to the AEBS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Update:
After much testing and frustration, I have found out the following:
Two computers on default (2.4 GHz) network after factory reset tested extremely slow internet speed.
Intel iMac on 5 GHz network after factory reset (and dual-band enabled) tested normal speed (fast).
Same two computers on ethernet after factory reset tested normal speed (fast).
Same two computers on guest network after factory reset (and guest network enabled) tested extremely slow.
So... what I have here is reason to believe that there is either some kind of interference/interception on 802.11g network, in the 2.4 GHz band, or a bad component in the AEBS.
More troubleshooting, back in a bit.

  • Router working but wireless stopped

Hi, I been using my WRT54G with no problems for 2 years now. Last night I lost wireless. I have 1 pc wired to the router and it works fine, e-mail, accessing the internet, everything. But I have 6 wireless devices ( 2 PCs, a printer, Nintindo 3Ds, a laptop and a nook) that use the wireless part of the router at different times. Anyways, last night, one of the wireless PCs lost connection, not seeing the router. Then I checked with each of the other wireless devices. None of them see the router. I tried many different things: powering down the router for two hours, hitting the reset button for 30 seconds, I even uninstalled the router and re-installed it and ran the setup-wizard. Again the pc I have wired to the router works but none of the wireless devices can see the router. What do I do next?

I beive you need to manully change some wireless settings on the router and that may help you.....So try the following steps.
Come to wired pc which is online.....Click on start....Go to run....type CMD...Enter....a black window will appear...Type ipconfig....You will get a ipaddress and a default gateway....
Open a internet explore page....and in the address bar type the default gateway (i.e http://192.168.1.1 )....hit enter... it will ask you for the user name and pasword....enter the password "admin" click OK.....it will take you to the setup page of the router....click on the wireless tab and the network mode should be Mixed , change the network name SSID , change the channel to 9 or 11 and the SSID broadcast should be enabled...
If you want to make the network secured...then click on wireless security tab under wireless and change the security mode....make it wpa personal and enter any password in wpa shared key box... the password should carry atleast 8 characters...then save the settings... and then go to wireless device and try to find the wireless network name once you find the network enter the password that you created and then you can join the network.

  • I've tried everything to get my keyboard backlight to work, but it won't!

    Hi guys,
I know this subject has come up before, and I've tried all the suggestions given (ie re-booting, pulling the battery etc). When I pull the battery or re-boot, the backlight will work, but only for a few seconds and then dims again. Every now and again it will come on randomly, but none of the solutions I've found so far have worked for my Curve 9300.
Where do I go from here?? Help would be much appreciated!

I was trying to download TinyUmbrella because some people have said it basically kicks phones out of recovery mode, and I did try that but it hadn't worked, it kept loosing connection with the phone even though it was connected.
I took the phone to the O2 shop and they did something to restore it, so it's working fine finally thanks for replying!

    Thank you for your reply.
Yeah, it is listed under the Device Manager.
I see one potential error under the event viewer. Thank you for that pointer.
The IP address lease 192.168.0.11 for the Network Card with network address 00216A1A24B2 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.0.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).
Any idea why this is coming???
I get that exact same error when I change my MAC address and my computer is trying to connect to my router.
This message is probably just the result of your computer not recognizing your Ethernet Adapter.
I have never had this problem and am just shooting in the dark, but I would say you either have a bad Ethernet card, or your Adapter is not configured correctly.
I keep wanting to go back to your adapter in the Device Manager.
Is the Device Status "This Device is working Properly"?
Under Power Management, is the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" unchecked?
Are you downloading the drivers from Lenovo's website?
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70199
Have your tried Uninstalling the adapter, and reboot.
Your system may automatically reinstall the adapter.  If not, you can manually reinstall it.

  • Wired works but wireless does not

I am posting this for two of my friends. Both of them have the same problem. They both brought their laptops to my house and connected wireless to my belkin router automatically. No problem. They both went home to their houses (two different friends both with linksys in their houses) and could not connect to their own linksys routers. They tried to repair connection but router did not show up as available. They both also have desktop computers that are wired and connect to the Internet without any problem. They both also wired their pc's to the router and connected without any problem. When they tried to connect wireless, they could not. We tried turning off the modem and router and pc and reboot the modem, router and pc again. Still only works when wired, but not wireless. By the way, they tried connecting wireless in the same room next to their router so there should not be any interference or something blocking the signal. Also they both have a Toshiba laptop with a built-in wireless.
    Any suggestions?
    Adam

Hi, have your friends check the status of their adapter. And if it is working fine, ask them if they have trief already setting up the wireless settings of the router?
Take the risk. Conquer your limitations!

  • E2000 works wired to router, but wireless doesn't work? Mobile devices not finding the wi-fi...!!!

Hi, I have had the E2000 now for about 3 months and everything has been fine up until Christmas Day.  All of a sudden the wireless portion isnt functioning.  My smartphone shows intermittent broadcast of the wi-fi, it will be there for a second and the next its gone.  My desktop works just fine connected directly to it.
So far, I have done the reset on the back, uninstalled the software and reinstalled, reconfigured everything and it still is the same story.
I know it just isnt my phone because I have another smartphone and an e-book reader that also is not finding the wi-fi portion.  I just cannot seem to figure out why it is not working and its making me crazy....
    ANY IDEAS??  Thanks.

it is possible that you may be experiencing wireless interference in your location.
try and change the channel in your router, follow the procedure here

  • I've been working on this for hours... Solaris works but mouse won't move

Edit: I should go ahead and say that I've looked at EVERY tutorial and guide and post I could find all over google, for literally hours. If you know how to fix this, I'm begging you to help me.
I have a Dell Dimension 8200, 256 MB RAM, Nvidia Geforce3 Ti 200 video card. The settings that appear when I press the "enter" button on the moniter say 640X480 with H.F.: 31.53 KHz and V.F.: 60.09 Hz.
    For the keyboard and mouse:
Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.1 ( Model 1014 ), Microsoft Standard Wireless Optical Mouse. Both of which wirelessly connect to the computer through the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Receiver 2.1, which is simply plugged into the computer into the first USB slot.
My keyboard and mouse came from the same box, so they should both work...but only one does. Both worked on Windows XP, without installing any extra drivers, so it is not a hardware issue.
I'm using Xorg. Xsun graphics won't work for me--they come up as green and black scattered text. I ran the xorgconfig and xorg.conf was automatically placed in /etc/X11/. So, I assume that was done correctly... I chose Auto for Mouse Detection, the default mouse driver /dev/mouse/, Generic English 104-key for the keyboard, no for 3-button-emulation, no for special settings, yes for card selection ( I chose #19 Nvidia, #350 Nvidia Geforce will not work. ), #3 for Moniter selection, 640x800 for all options, and 16 bit I believe for all options.
I then rebooted, and the GUI worked fine and the keyboard worked fine. I logged in and got to the desktop, where I was prompted with some windows. The mouse pointer graphic was on the screen, but I couldn't get the mouse to work. I moved the mouse ( hardware ) back and forth repeatedly, despite my efforts the pointer simply stayed at the center of the screen.
It's almost humorous, right before I can read the keyboard shortcuts for Solaris manual while navigating the subchapters with the tab button and selecting them with the enter button( it was on the first layer of the windows that popped up so I could see it without needing to click on it ), the Solaris Registration window pops up a minute or two afterwards blocking out the other windows. I can navigate with the tab button in this window as well, yet the enter key does not have the authority to hit the buttons. My only option is to use a mouse...but wait--the mouse does not move!
SO TO THE POINT! Why won't my mouse work?!
I am completely new to UNIX based systems, so Solaris is my first one. I'm used to Windows XP, so just to let you know -- when UNIX commands are mentioned, you're speaking in gibberish to me. If I need to edit any files, please clearly explain how to do so--if I need to use a UNIX text editor etc., and what-not. Because as of now, I can only edit the files with the console.
Oh great...now this is appearing when I reboot:
WARNING - The following files in / differ from the boot archive:
    /etc/path_to_inst
cannot find: /etc/devices/mdi_ib_cache: No such file or directory
The recommended action is to reboot and select "Solaris failsafe"
option from the boot menu. Then follow prompts to update the boot archive.
To continue booting at your own risk, clear the service:
    # svcadm clear system/boot-archive

Method "/lib/svc/method/boot-archive" failed with exit status 95.

    Requesting System Maintenance Mode
    (See /lib/svc/share/README for more information.)
    Console login service(s) cannot run
    What is going on?

Okay I fixed it on my own by reconfiguring Xorg with a new mouse.
If anyone else somehow encounters this problem in the future, it seems like there isn't a driver for the Microsoft Wireless Optical mouse. If there is one, it doesn't come with the basic installation. Though, the keyboard works fine. The new mouse I got was a PS/2 Optical three-button mouse. It's pretty much your generic computer mouse.

  • My wireless key board does not work but wireless mouse does?

I can not get my wireless keyboard to work again after i changed the batteries, It work sonewhat before I chaged the batteries but don't work at all now. I tried removing the thing pluged into the usb port and i pushed the connect button on the bittom of keyboard but nothing works. The wireless mouse works fine. What could be wrong?

Not sure which KB you have, but I'd check a few things.
    1) You might have a dead battery or two - perhaps try batteries known to be working in another device, such as a TV remote control.
    2) The KB shouldn't need to be re-synced just via a battery change.   However, if you do resync - you might need to hold the sync button longer.   On my TouchSmart IQ804, I usually push mine about 10 seconds or so.   I can pull the USB tranceiver out of the back of the unit and put it in the side/front port, that way I can watch the LED that indicates sync/transfer better.
I know that there are some good wireless KB troubleshooting documents on the HP website - here is a link to one of them.

  • [solved] pacman -Syy and -Syu work, but packages won't install

Hello, everyone. I'm really new to Arch, but I did search all over Google and the forums and couldn't find an answer to this, so I thought I'd ask the forums.
I just installed Arch, and I'm trying to install sudo.
When I run pacman -S sudo, I get:
sudo package not found, searching for group...
error: 'sudo': not found in syncdb
However, when I run pacman -Syy, I get:
    ::Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.kernel.org: File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
...(other similar errors from other mirrors)
    core     4.1K     43.7K/s     00:00:00 [##########] 100%
    ...(same for extra and community)
(Sorry I didn't copy the entire output out, I'm not connected to the internet on the Arch computer, so I'm typing this by hand on another one. I tried a bunch of mirrors earlier, and only one mirror actually works: the Arch one, which as a download cap.)
So my package databases are getting updated, but somehow pacman isn't recognizing them or something.
I updated pacman to see if that would work.
    pacman -V
    Pacman v3.3.3 - libalpm v4.0.3
    It didn't.
    I'm running 2.6.33-ARCH according to lib/modules.
I haven't changed my etc/pacman.conf. [core] and its Include, [extra] and its Include, and [community] and its Include are all uncommented. No packages are ignored.
My etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist was updated from the Arch Mirror Generator. I uncommented everything in United States.
I have internet set up, and I've tried taking down wlan0 and putting it back up. iwconfig shows that wlan0 works and is connected, and I'm pinging google.com successfully, so I know internet works.
Thanks in advance for any help, and please let me know if I'm missing any information. I tried to be thorough.

  • When I start-up my computer it has a Flashing ? in a Folder. I removed the HDD as then plugged it in via USB and it worked, but just won't work with it inside the Macbook.

So, I just had a bit of a hurried train journey, two connections very close together, resulting in my laptop bouncing around a bit inside my bag (in a case). The Macbook was shutdown the entire time, but when I tried to start it up it came up with a flashing folder with a "?" in the middle of it after the start-up "bong".
I proceeded to remove the hard drive to check if it was okay, and it worked fine via USB into my iMac, so I am now running my Macbook Pro from a hard-drive that is completely naked outside of its shell.
What could have gone wrong other than the hard drive, bairng in mind that it is all working perfectly well with the hard-drive plugged in via USB. I was thinking it could be the ribbon cable that connects the hard-drive internally, however I had this replaced not long ago after a previous complete hard-drive failure, but that's a story for another time.
If anyone could help I'd be very appreciative, as my macbook looks ghetto as all **** right now, as I have the hard-drive sellotaped to the left of my trackpad.

If Apple was the one that replaced the ribbon cable, return it. If not, run AHT (Apple Hardware Test).
Using Apple Hardware Test to troubleshoot a hardware problem
Your issues might be caused by a hardware problem. Running Apple Hardware Test can help you solve this problem by showing you the faulty hardware.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
Press the Power Button to turn on the computer.
Press and hold the D key on the keyboard before the grey starting screen appears.
Continue to hold the D key until the loading screen shows up. You should see a globe.
When AHT has loaded, select your Language and then press the Return (↩) key.
Select the Perform Extended Testing checkbox located under the Test button.
Press the T key, select the Test button, or press the Return (↩) key to start running the diagnostics.

  • IPhone 4S fell on some water, was working but now won't work. I got a replacement coming. Can I use the old Sim card in the new phone if it wasn't damaged? Will I get my pictures and contacts and messages back if it wasn't damaged?

My iPhone 4S accidentally fell into a very shallow bit of water. The phone was wet, but worked afterwards for a short bit. Now it's not working, so I called and got a replacement phone coming. Same exact phone. Can I use the old Sim card in the new phone without harming anything? I don't know if the sim card got messed up or not, but I had a lot of pictures and messages and my contacts on my phone, and I assume these were on the sim card or am I wrong? I just wan to know if I can use the old sim card if it's still working in the new phone that is coming, as long as there was no damage to it? Thanks

I think I had it on the iCloud, I just changed computers and had part of my old computer backed up, where are the default iTunes info saved like the pictures and I know my contacts were backed up cuz I kept getting updated stuff that I wasn't sure about, but it was contacts where some belonged to my wife's contacts....but anyway, if the cloud backed up contacts, it should have grabbed pictures too? Like I asked before, if they were backed up to the computer, is there a default iTunes folder they are saved to? I had a crap load of pictures on there that I usually could really access if I was connected to wi-fi. I turned off my data stuff as I only have 4GB and between me and my 2 kids, we seemed to use up a lot of it. My son would play music from Pandora during work, and use up all our data til I limited him to only 3GB, my daughter and I barely used 1GB. Anyway, thanks to everybody that is answering. I thought I might have done good finding the dang sim card, but pointless I guess.
Ralph - F.Y.I. I would be happy to back up the iPhone if I could turn it on LOL......I am pretty positive I did, but what about Text messages? ANY of those saved too or not? Sorry guys, I don't know a **** of a lot about cell phones, but I do know about memory cards, but not sim cards that act like memory cards or look like them anyway. What is the purpose of a sim card if I may ask a stupid question since they don't hold any data from my phone stuff. I just hope my stuff comes back on the new replacement phone once I get it up and running. Again, thanks to everybody for the edumucation.
