Wired dot1x with OS X Leopard issue

I am unable to get my OS X Leopard clients to authenticate to the network before a user logs in.
I've followed this documentation (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3326), set up a System Profile, selected only PEAP (like my XP clients), accepted/trusted the certificate and authenticated. Then when I reboot I'm presented with the 802.1x authentication box instead of the machine authenticating itself.
The Mac is part of the domain, I'm logged in as a domain user when I set up 802.1x, I've installed a certificate on the Mac, and the root and ACS certs are also trusted according to the keychain.

i opened g5
i found hard drive loose and the plug looks like unplugged
what do i do??
i looked up on youtube

is what i see

  • Limit the number of session per user in the Wired dot1x environment with ISE 1.2

    Hello,
I need to check if there is any configuration/workaround to limit the number of sessions/access per user in the Wired dot1x configuration.
I need to check if this feature is available or not to solve the following scenario:
I have 2 SW ports configured to use dot1x authentication with ISE 1.2 server.
If user A connects to the 1st port and authenticated then he will placed on a VLAN based on the authorization profile.
The case, that I need to deny the same user to connect on a different machine with the same credentials.
The ISE itself does not have this feature currently,  the only feature available is to limit the number of sessions for the guest user.
Is there any workaround on the Cisco switches to solve this? Cisco WLC has this feature and for the VPN we can limit the number of sessions also from the ASA itself.
    Thanks.

limit number of session per user using wired dot1x is not available in 1.3

  • MAJOR issues with Safari in Leopard since 10.5.1 update

Not sure what the heck is going on with Safari in Leopard since the 10.5.1 update, but for the first time in a long time I've had to put Firefox back in my dock to get a satisfactory web surfing experience.
Using Safari, most page loads don't ever complete (blue bar gets half or two thirds across and hangs), and randomly addresses will become unusable -- i.e., a reliable address like apple.com won't load anymore and I get the "server not responding" error, yet it works perfectly fine in Firefox. Restarting the computer sometimes will fix the problem for that particular address, but other addresses will experience the same behavior.
I have no third party extensions installed (never have) -- don't even have the "Input Managers" folders that others have written about in these forums.
    Repaired permissions, still no love.
If anyone has any ideas, would love to hear them -- otherwise I'm going to have to stick with Firefox until Apple can get this straightened out.

If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard widgets etc also rely.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.0.4.
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, as well as the latest Java update.
    Also try this:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions.
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
If not, MacFixit have published a very detailed (very!) article on speeding up a slow Safari, here:

  • Compatibility issues with Mac OSX Leopard 10.5 and Word 2004 11.6.3 on G5 PowerMac?

Are there compatibility issues with Mac OSX Leopard V. 10.5 and Word 2004 11.6.3 when installed on a PowerMac G5? I understand the Leopard upgrade is okay on the later Intel Mac, but what about my G5 PowerPC Mac?

I do not use Microsoft Excel much but when i do use it it works fine on my G5. my powerbook has excel to but sometimes freezes on the powerbook. but not the G5 so give it a try you can always uninstall it if it does not work good

  • Leopard issues with G5 Power Mac

Here is a list of Leopard issues I have encountered with my G5 Power Mac. my machine is a dual 2.0 with 6 GB RAM. I have 2 hard drives, 1 500 and 1 750. I amusing the ATI x1900 G5 mac Edition card powering 2 Apple Cinema Displays.
    1) the x1900 G5 Power mac Edition card has some serious issues with Leopard. Terrible redraws, artifacting and kernel panics seem to be caused by the use of this card under Leopard. The latest drivers on the ATI site are for Tiger.
    2) Adobe CS3 installs, but the install crashes repeatedly and you have to keep retrying. This does not happen on Tiger.
    3) Many other apps are quirky under Leopard, as are some peripherals. For example, my Microtek ScanMaker 9800 XL large format scanner works fine, but if you are saving a scanned image you are limited to one letter for the name of the image in the "Save As" dialogue.
These are some of the issues that have caused me to go back to Tiger, where everything just works.

I've got a G5 Quad with the ATI x1900 powering 2 monitors (including a 30" cinema), and leopard indeed ***** with this setup. I've troubleshot for more time than it's worth, but the setup has become ALMOST workable with a few changes. by turning off spaces, cleaning out the card's cooling system itself (dust), and NEVER EVER putting the machine to sleep, it rarely kernel panics.
This is the second X1900 (first 1 was replaced by ATI for overheating/locking up problems about a year ago with 10.4). - It seems once the card overheats to a certain degree, it fails constantly no matter what you do.
When 10.5 was first installed, it locked up and the fans kicked into overdrive about 7 or 8 times a day for no apparent reason. The machine would go to sleep fine but after about 30 seconds or so, it would kick the fans up to full and no video would come on. The screensaver caused the same problem. If the video did come back, it seemed to lock up all USB traffic when it did so.
Now, after 2 weeks of fighting with it, it only freezes once a day or so. I know Apple released a firmware update for the MacPro version of this card, but the G5 version has a different firmware, and so far nothing's come from ATI.
The problem is gone in Tiger, so it's definitely a software/driver/firmware issue. Hopefully Apple and ATI fix this thing before I have to revert to using the lame NV6600 that came with the machine. 'Be nice if the people who spent the money on "top-of-the-line" got the same amount of time and tech development devoted to them as the masses. - It seems the MacPro users with the ATI X1900 card are in the same boat as us though. (Gee - some consolation.)

  • ISE Wired DOT1X authorization fails

I'm configuring wired dot1x, and it won't work. My end goal is to use machine/user authentication for this wired profile, but for now, because of issues I'm just attempting wired user authentication. Below is what I have
-authorization profile to allow a user based on the default (wired dot1x) and AD memberOF to get the person into the network
-the network card on the computer is setup to use "user authetication" inside of the NIC authentication tab....this is PEAP by the way.
Here is what I am seeing. I do a reboot of the machine, and the login for Windows comes up and I login. Once in Windows I look at the NIC and it says Authentication failed. ISE says that it PASSED and used my authorization profile to pass it and says that it sent my dacl. Doing a show authentication session int gi8/36 says "status authz FAILED".
I get the same thing if I use both machine and user. Machine boot->login->ISE says there was a successful authentication for the machine and sends a dacl->sh auth sess int gi8/36 says status authz failed on the switch, and the NIC shuts due to failed authentication which after that it's obviously not going to pass the user side of my policy. This is driving my nuts. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Below is config info. Thanks

I fixed this issue So to the trained eye this should be obvious. The authz ultimatly failed not because of my authorization policies, but because I have no default permit ip any any ACL on the port. This is a requirement for the IOS I'm running. The dACL's can not be applied to the switchport without it, and thus will throw the port into an authz fail without it.

  • Upgrade leopard to snow leopard with preexisiting snow leopard time machine backup

I was using an old desktop Mac that had been upgraded to snow leopard from leopard a few years ago. Disk utility said I needed to repair my hard drive using the installation discs. I didn't have the snow leopard installation disc but still had the leopard installation disc which I used. When the computer re-installed leopard onto my hard drive, it created a partition: one with my hard drive running snow leopard, and then a new one with the space left over, running leopard. I got my replacement snow leopard installation discs and would like to delete the leopard partition, and go back to what I had before with the snow leopard drive. I do have a time machine backup (somewhat incomplete) and am making a copy of the physical snow leopard drive. I cannot access the most recent time machine backup since I'm back to running leopard and the time machine backup was made under snow leopard. I'm not sure how to proceed from here to upgrade to snow leopard. When I try to upgrade to snow leopard, I'm asked which destination drive to use. I don't want to use the snow leopard drive, since it would get deleted. So, would the leopard drive be the answer in this case? And what would happen to the contents of my old snow leopard drive? Would I end up with two partitions, both with snow leopard, but one being current (nothing on it) and the other being my old drive? Would I be able to get rid of the current drive and then use only my old drive? Thanks in advance for any help.

First of all, it's unclear to me why you cannot select the old Snow Leopard partition.
I also think you should have been able to repair hard disk using the leopard CD disk without actually installing leopard OSX by using the Utilities only.
Also, Why is your Time Machine backup incomplete? Is that under Leopard or Snow Leopard?
Now you have two partitions with two different OSX (Leopard and Snow Leopard). Your goal is to get back to Snow Leopard.
I going to assume that the original Snow Leopard partition is inoperable (this is also question?) I would upgrade the Leopard partition to Snow Leopard. Afetrwards, use the Migration Assistant to bring in your data, documents, app, and settings. Once complete, you should be able to see your Time Machine backups. If all is ok then you can delete the original Snow Leopard partition.
This is a somewhat complicated situation, so I am issuing a caveat that is my opinion only. Wait until another expert provides input regarding your situation to determine the best course of action.

  • Can i Use The Apple Wired Keyboard With Camera Connector Kit

Can i Use The Apple Wired Keyboard With Camera Connector Kit
    3g 64gb verizon

People report it is still possible to use a wired USB keyboard with the CCK, if you use a powered USB hub to get around the "not enough power" error message.  (I have done this with an older Apple USB keyboard my non-jailbroken iPad1 on iOS 4.3.3.)  Normally, powered USB hubs have a AC power adapter so you lose portability unless you can find a battery powered USB hub.  At this point, the (in)convinience of the USB hub becomes an issue, depending on what you get.
And wired USB keyboard were never supported for the iPad.  So there's no guarantee that it will continue to work with future iPad updates from Apple.  So best to go with a Bluetooth keyboard unless you have a specific USB keyboard that you "must" use.  If you have all the equipment already, I say give it a try.  But I would not recommend trying a USB keyboard if you have to purchase anything.

  • Wired dot1X session termination

    Hi all,
Question about wired dot1X session termination.
After a client successfully done on the wired dot1x authentication, my authZ rule is follow by the VLAN assignement whereby DHCP server will provision a client IP to the PC.
But when the client doing these 2 action:
    01. after get connected, disable the IEEE 802.1x option on the PC Ethernet port setting
    02. after get connected, disable, then enable the PC Ethernet port setting  (bouncing)
I found out these 2 actions will still get the user in authorized state, because it is not link down or port-bounce action. Session still persist at client PC.
    My question :
Anything i can configure either on the switch or ISE will automatic trigger an action like send an EAPOL-Logoff message, causing the switch port to change to the unauthorized state?
    Thanks
    Component in use:
    client OS: window 7
    PEAP-MsCHAP V2
authentication mode : iser or computer authetnication
no check on single sign on
no check remember credential for connection each time logged on
no check fallback to unauthorized network access
    ISE 1.1.3 with patch 4
    Switchport configuration
    interface G0/1
    switchporGt mode access
    switchport access vlan 61
    authentication port-control auto
    dot1x pae authenticator
    authentication host-mode multi-auth
    authentication order dot1x
    authentication priority dot1x mab
    no shutdown
    end

For #2 - The session should terminate and restart if the Ehternet adapter on the PC bounces. Are you saying that even though the user disables/enables the adapter, the session remains active in ISE/NAD?
For #1 - I am not really sure as I have never played with this before. My guess would be "No" because once ISE sends the "Access Accept" back to the NAD (your switch in this scenario), the NAD won't know if you are disabling 802.1x. The EAPoL conversation already took place so there is no more 802.1x type traffic coming in and out of the NAD/Client on that port.
I suppose you can set a re-autn and inactivity timer on both the NAD and ISE but keep in mind that it is not recommended for those timers to be set at low values (minimum 1 hour). Otherwise you could overwhelm your ISE servers depending on how large your environment is.
You will need to add the following commands on the switchport:
    authentication periodic
    authentication timer reauthenticate server
    authentication timer inactivity server
Then in ISE you will need to set the re-auth and the idle timers under the "Authorization Profile"
Another thing to keep in mind is that you should control what your users can and cannot do on their workstations via GPO (Group Policy). In normal circumstances a regular user should not have the privileges to disable 802.1x or their Ethernet adapter :)
    Hope this helps!

  • Apple Wired keyboard with numeric keypad works for 10.5.6??

    Hello!
I have a iBook G4 1 Ghz 256 mb of ram. I want the apple wired keyboard
With numeric keypad. My iBook is running 10.5.6. Would this work on leopard?
I don't care if the launch pad and mission control keys don't work since I have leopard.
However, on the box it says that the minimum requirements
Is 10.6.8 but some people say it'll work.
    Please Help!!!
    Thank You So Much

ok thanks for the tip and yes i admit i didn't see that...
but it seems a little weird to have to upgrade all the OS to Snow Leopard just to use a keyboard.
That kind of new device should be configured through a driver to download...shouldn't it ?
I presume there's no keyboard driver that can solve my problem.. ?
so you confirm that if i pay for Snow Leopard and upgrade my OS, my keyword will definitely work correctly with my Mac Mini ?
    Thanks

  • Problems with CS3 and Leopard

Having a bit of a nightmare with Indesign and Photoshop CS3 since upgrading to Leopard. Running a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 With 2GB DDR SDRAM. Anyone else having problems?

Below is the Adobe Marketing Line (copied verbatim). It's what I was told by Adobe Sales and what I read at Adobe.com, FAQ, before buying CS3 in October 07. Imagine my surprise when I discovered all of the issues with CS3 and Leopard, even after the update to Acrobat 8.1.2 Professional which promised full compatibility (see chart at bottom).
    Apple and Adobe... ARGH.
Oh yes, for all of the new suckers out there who are about to buy CS3 for their new Macs, the exact same FAQ is at Adobe.com, even now, Thursday, 12 Jun 2008.
ADOBE CREATIVE SUTIE 3 Frequently Asked Questions
Support for Mac OS X Leopard
    Q. Is Mac OS X Leopard (v10.5) important to Creative Suite 3 customers?
    A. Yes, Mac OS X Leopardthe latest version of Apples operating systemdelivers an elegant,
productive new computing experience for creative professionals. Adobe and Apple have been
collaborating closely for months to ensure that Adobe Creative Suite® 3 applications can run
smoothly and reliably on Mac OS X Leopard. We are proud to support this impressive new
operating system, and to ensure that our creative customers can take full advantage of the
performance and value of using Creative Suite 3 applications and Mac OS X Leopard on
    Intel-based and PowerPC Macs.
    Q. Are Adobe Creative Suite 3 applications compatible with Mac OS X Leopard (v10.5)? If
some are not fully compatible today, when will they be compatible?
    A. Thanks to close collaboration between Adobe and Apple, most of the CS3 applications and associated technologies, such as Adobe Bridge CS3, Version Cue CS3, and Device Central CS3, are compatible with Mac OS X Leopard without requiring additional updates. However, the following CS3 applications will require updates for full compatibility with Leopard: Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and our professional video applications, including Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, After Effects CS3 Professional, Encore CS3, and Soundbooth CS3. We expect to publish free Leopard compatibility updates for the video applications in December 2007 and for Acrobat 8 Professional and Adobe Reader 8 in January 2008. For a complete overview of compatibility between Adobe creative applications and Mac OS X Leopard, see the chart on page 2 of this FAQ.
    Q. Will older versions of Adobe creative softwaresuch as Creative Suite 2 and
Macromedia Studio 8 softwaresupport Mac OS X Leopard?
    A. While older Adobe applications may install and run on Mac OS X Leopard, they were
designed, tested, and released to the public several years before this new operating system became available. You may, therefore, experience a variety of installation, stability, and reliability issues for which there is no resolution. Older versions of our creative software will not be updated to support Mac OS X Leopard. For a complete overview of compatibility between Adobe creative applications and Mac OS X Leopard, see the chart on page 2.
    Q. Will Adobe continue to test CS3 applications on Mac OS X Leopard?
    A. Yes. Adobe sets high standards of quality, stability, and reliability for our professional creative
products, and we have worked closely with Apple to test Creative Suite 3 applications on both pre-release versions and the final shipping version of Mac OS X Leopard. While this testing showed that most CS3 applications perform well on Leopard (and that others run well but need updates for a few identified issues), we recognize that other issues may unexpectedly arise on any new operating system. We plan to continue testing and to monitor user experience closely to address any such issues. If you encounter any issues, please report them by going to www.adobe.com/misc/bugreport.html and clicking Report
A Bug. Please note that we dont respond to submissions, but we do review them closely with the appropriate CS3 product teams.
    Q. Which CS3 applications will need patches to be compatible with Mac OS X Leopard?
    A. The following table summarizes compatibility between Adobe creative applications and Mac OS X Leopard. It notes which CS3 applications require updates for full Leopard compatibility and when Adobe expects to release those free updates.

    ========================= Problem Statement =======================================
    Problem Statement:
Select all employees whose active schedule (rec_stat = 'A') start date & time falls
    between "16:30" and "17:45".
An employee may be having multiple schedules on a day. It may be continuous or may be
having breaks in between the schedules.
If an employee schedule is continuous then the minimum schedule start date & time is
considered as the start date & time of the work.
If an employee is having breaks in the schedule, then each schedule start date & time is
considered as start date & time.
    e.g:-1
    1     39609     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 07:00:00     2008/03/03 11:00:00     A
    2     39609     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 11:00:00     2008/03/03 11:30:00     A
In above case, the employee schedule is continuous. The start date & time is 2008/03/03 07:00:00
    e.g:-2
    19     169241     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 05:30:00     2008/03/03 14:00:00     A
    21     169241     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 17:30:00     2008/03/03 22:00:00     A
In above case, the employee is having a break in between. Then both records
    start date & time (i.e. 2008/03/03 05:30:00, 2008/03/03 05:30:00 ) is considered
    as start date & time.
    e.g:-3
    30     260774     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 07:00:00     2008/03/03 10:30:00     A
    31     260774     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 10:30:00     2008/03/03 14:00:00     A
    32     260774     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 05:30:00     2008/03/03 07:00:00     A
In above case, the employee schedule is continuous. The start date & time is 2008/03/03 05:30:00
========================= Query to test Individual Employees =======================================
Query-1: Test query to see the CASE and LEAD function works fine. If "CAL = 0" means that all
schedules are continuous and the employee needs to ignored.
    SELECT fw.*,
    CASE WHEN LEAD(FW.END_DT_TM, 1)
OVER(ORDER BY FW.START_DT_TM DESC ) IS NULL AND
    fw.start_dt_tm BETWEEN

    TO_DATE('03/03/2008 17:45:00','mm/dd/yyyy hh24:mi:ss')
    THEN Fw.seq
    WHEN LEAD(FW.END_DT_TM, 1)
    OVER(ORDER BY FW.START_DT_TM DESC) != FW.START_DT_TM AND
    fw.start_dt_tm BETWEEN
    TO_DATE('03/03/2008 16:30:00','mm/dd/yyyy hh24:mi:ss') AND
    TO_DATE('03/03/2008 17:45:00','mm/dd/yyyy hh24:mi:ss')
    THEN Fw.seq
    ELSE 0
    END AS "CAL"
    FROM TESTSCHED fw
    WHERE fw.empl_id = 289039
    and fw.rec_stat = 'A'
    Query Results
    SEQ     EMPL_ID     SCHED_DT     START_DT_TM          END_DT_TM          REC_STAT     CAL
    37     289039     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 16:30:00     2008/03/03 22:15:00     A          0
    39     289039     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 13:45:00     2008/03/03 16:30:00     A          0
Since all "CAL" column is zero, the employee should be ignored.

Reason: Employee 126690: schedule start date & time is 2008/03/03 12:45:00 and falls outside
    "16:30" and "17:45"

Reason: Employee 289039: schedule start date & time is 2008/03/03 13:45:00 and falls outside
    37     289039     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 16:30:00     2008/03/03 22:15:00     A
    39     289039     2008/03/03     2008/03/03 13:45:00     2008/03/03 16:30:00     A

Your LEAD function is order by fw.start_dt_tm, in your first sql, the where clause limited the records return to REC_STAT = A and EMPL_ID = 289039.
In your 2nd query, there is no where clause, so to the LEAD function, the next record after seq 37 is seq 38 which has an end date of 2003-03-03 10:15 pm, not equal to the start time of record seq 37.

  • Why doesn't LightScribe work with my Snow Leopard?

Why doesn't LightScribe work with my Snow Leopard? It downloaded and is in my printer folder, but won't open.

Are you really still running 10.6.3? If you are you should run the combo update as many issues were resolved within the updates themselves.

  • Wired dot1x, anyone got it to work

trying to implement dot1x on wired network with dynamic vlan assignment, very unstable. anyone with fix or similar results.

802.1X ports cannot be configured as dynamic access ports. A port in dynamic mode can negotiate with its neighbor to become a trunk port. If you try to enable 802.1X on a dynamic port, an error message appears, and 802.1X is not enabled. If you try to change the mode of an 802.1X-enabled port to dynamic, the port mode is not changed. See the following document for details:

  • Wired Dot1x and forcing machine auth on windows

I've got wired dot1x authentication working ok. the ACS server backs off to a windows domain so machine level authentication works fine. However I can't see a way of forcing windows to only ever do machine authentication. Has anyone else looked at this? I could enable the option on the ACS server to require a previous machine auth before it accepts a user auth but it can only cache this for a limited amount of time. The only way to get a machine auth is for there not to be a user logged on at the time. If we accept user auth then any user can bring their own machine onto the network but we this is what we want to stop and only allow bank standard (i.e. domain members) machines on the network.
    cheers
    Mike

Right, you need AuthMode = 2.
If onlky allowing domain memebers onto the network is the primary goal, then you may also want to consider:
    * The Machine Access Restriction feature on ACS (what you referred to before as a cache, but does help for mitigation of this threat).
    * Denying dial-in permisssions on user accounts (but this may break other things you may be using for remote access).
Example: If someone brought in there PC from home with virtually any supplicant on it, they're on the network as long as their NT credentials check out (whether machine-auth fails or not, b/c remember they can configure their own supplicant).
