Wired Internet Access - Ethernet "Not Connected"

Hi,
I have a 15" MacBook Pro that is less than 6 months old that has suddenly developed a problem with the wired ethernet access. When I plug a cable into the laptop, it still says "Not Connected" for the ethernet adapter in Network preferences pane. I can assure you 100% that the networking equipment and cables work fine as I am using the cord right now with another computer to send this message.
Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this would be great.
Thanks!

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I had the same thing happen with a Bondi Blue, and finally concluded that the port itself had failed. Since your computer is less than 6 months old, the best course of action would be to take it in to an Apple Store or AASP to have it looked at. The repair should be covered by your warranty.
Good luck!

  • What is the process for connecting ethernet.  Have ethernet cable connected to stereo received for internet radio and Blue Ray. However Network System Preferences indicates ethernet not connected and has red dot to left.  Note Airport wireless is working.

What is the process for connecting airport extreme ethernet?  I have ethernet cables connected to stereo receiver for internet radio and another to blue ray player.  The system preference network indicates "ethernet not connected" with red dot to left of this message.  The airport wireless works and has green dot to left of it.  The stereo receiver and blue ray player do not respond and give message not connect to internet.  Thank you.  /  cfpirate

It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
    After restarting, it worked.
    Thanks!

  • My computer says I am connected to wifi, but when I go to use the internet, I am not connected. What do I do?

I have tried to reset my wifi and use different wifi systems. I am in college, so I have tried to use the internet both on campus and in my home in Dallas, neither of which worked. I JUST WANT TO HAVE INTERNET.

My computer says I am connected to wifi, but when I go to use the Internet, I am not connected.
Usually when this occurs on one Wifi and Internet connection, the wifi router is working, but the router connection to the Internet Service Provider is broken. Resetting the modem or router/modem combination often results in a new connection to the ISP being established (baring any data caps limits, line, modem or ISP troubles)
However your mentioning it's not connecting anywhere your going on wifi or Internet, which could mean your machine has been compromised and possibly blacklisted until it's cleaned up of malware, or you tried to self solve your earlier issues and messed up your Network settings.
I tend to lesser think it's a actual hardware problem, but it might come to that eventually.
You should test the compromised/blacklist theroy by using a Ethernet cable to the modem you know has a good Internet on and powering on/off the modem. (if a router/modem combination, then no need). If you get Internet and not kicked off in a few minutes, then your machine is fine, likely messed up Network settings are too blame.
You can clear everything out by creating a New Location by editing locations and creating a new one, also by going to Airport Advanced > Airport and deleting all the previous connections to start over new. Reboot.
Connect manually to your home network and save in Keychain when it asks.
If this is all too much for you, take it to a local PC/Mac repair shop as they specialize in software/network issues.

  • I received a text today while at work about iCloud keychain verification code. I have not signed up for it or anything that uses it. I work out of the city with limited internet access so not sure why I would be getting this. Is my info safe??

I received a text today while at work about iCloud keychain verification code. I have not signed up for it or anything that uses it. I work out of the city with limited internet access so not sure why I would be getting this. I only got this number about a month ago. Apparently someone else had the number before because I get texts from his family members wondering whats going on. I got one yesterday and the person didn't seem to thrilled that the number was cutoff and today I got 2 texts about iCloud Keychain which I don't even know what it is. Seems suspicious to me. If the person who use to own the number is doing it he should know it is not his number anymore because he obviously didn't pay his bills.  I'm not too sure about iCloud Keychain so just want to know my info safe?? It says it can store credit card numbers which is what gets me worried. Frankly I think it's pretty stupid to save that kind if information with any kind of app. But I don't want some random person trying to access my personal information because they are bitter they lost their number.  Please let me know as soon as possible so I can change passwords or anything that is needed.
    thanks

If it were me, I would go to my carrier and get a new number. Since you have only had it for a month, the inconvenience would be minimal.

Ive forgotten the passcode to my ipod touch and we've just got a new internet so its not connected to the internet so i cant restore it from recovery mode how would i restore it?

    An internet connection is required.
    Forgotten Screen-Lock Passcode
Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup

Then restore via iTunes. The iOS device will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    For without iTunes
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.

if I set duplex to full and speed to 1000 then the AP shows not connected on the switch and the AP it self is blinking like a Christmas tree!

can it be the cable quality dropping from 1000 to 100? I'm going to un-mount the AP  from the wall and connect it directly to the switch to see what will happen

  • Mac G5 Airport "NO internet Access" but is connected to WRT54G network

I have read thru prior threads and nothing has worked. I have connected to the internet once. I have upgraded the firmware to the wrt54. I have tried both PPPoe and DCHP to connect as well as using the built in ethernet. Why will it connect to the network but have no internet access?
The network status on my G5 says "Airport connected and You have internet access through Airport. But when I try through Safari, the screen comes up "no internet connection". Currently my wrt54 is 192.168.2.1 and I have set the security to allow access to the router. Can someone layout what my mac and router settings should be, If they are working for them? After trying somemany different things, I worry that I am not trying the right sequence of settings anymore. Help!
    Many thanks!

I have upgraded my router firmware to the latest, at least what is available here at linksys. The airport does retrieve the address from the router, but no go. Should it be set to PPPoe or not? If it isn't. it doesn't look for the host. When its off, the network status says connected to the linksys network, internet access through Airport, but still no Safari. I don't understand, if it is connected to the network, what is preventing it from connecting to the internet, which is available on the router? My DHCP server is enabled, I have changed the address to 192.168.2.1, 50 clients, but there are no DNS static address'. Should I input some DNS Address? My router is connected to a DSL modem and hardwired to a PC through the net connection. This is how I access the router. Whoops gotta get to work...........
    Thanks for your help

  • Wired Internet Access Only

if only a wired internet connection is available, is there a coverter for my IPAD2 that will allow me to connect to an ethernet cable?

There is no ethernet connection available. If there is ethernet available there should be a wifi router available.
     Cheers, Tom
You could use a Travel Router

  • Why won't my internet work when not connected to wifi?

My internet won't work when not connected to wifi I have been in the Vodafone shop an they tried everything and could not fix it the last option was to restart the iPhone and it still hasn't worked

What does everything include by Vodafone?
Did Vodafone check if your iPhone is provisioned properly for data access on their network?
Has it been this way since day one or a recent problem?

  • Thunderbolt- Ethernet; not connecting

Alright, I've been having this persistant issue with my Thunderbolt to ethernet adapter reading as 'not connected'. I've tried manual IP, I've tried configuring the IPv6 to link-local only, and renewing the DHCP lease. Nothing seems to be fixing my problem.
Obviously my Wifi is working which means my Internet is currently online, and my adapter and ethernet cord are brand new! So far I'm just looking for a way to stop wasting my time trying to fix this myself, this has been a problem sense 10.9 and I havn't been able to find a single solution online so far.

If you look in System Preferences when it's plugged in, does it show as connected?
If the cord is known good, and all the settings in System Preferences are set to automatic, the problem has to be with the adapter or the computer. You might want to take both to the Genius Bar and let them look.

  • "Ethernet Not Connected"

    Hello
My internet stopped tonight after being connected via ethernet. Managed to get it back on and then it stopped again. Now my macbook will not regognise an ethernet connection despite the fact the wires are fine and the cable modem works fine with other computers.
Though they are password protected so I cannot be sure, airport networks are showing on the list.
System preferences says that no cable is connected, does anyone know of a solution?

actually, I'm pretty sure that there is an issue with the recent iTunes update. As soon as I updated iTunes my Ethernet port is missing. Usually it would show in the status of the Ethernet preferences that Ethernet is not connect, but it does not show it at all. Apple has to come out with a fix for that one.

  • Wired internet access fail

    I have a WRT160N, running XP, I have:
    Reset it
    Upgraded firmware
    Downgraded firmware
    Powered down my network
    Powered down my computers
The problem is that I can use the wireless, but not the wired internet.  I am using two different computers: one wired, one wireless.  The wireless one can get online, can access the settings (192.168.1.1), the wired one can access the settings (192.168.1.1), but cannot get online.  If, however, I run the newest firmware, both can access the settings, but neither can access the internet.
Let me know what you think.
    thanks,

Check your wired computer's LAN ip address, sn, dg
Check if it has DNS, maybe it doesnt have dns.
With IP address and without DNS, you can access 192.168.1.1

  • Internet via Ethernet -- Lost Connectivity

    Hello,
Starting this past Friday, my internet connection, provided from Verizon dsl modem to dual band AEBS to 24" iMac using ethernet, began to hang on certain sites. Other iMac and iPods could reach these sites wirelessly, via the AEBS; turned out the 24" iMac could work wirelessly with no problems as well. That started me on a day long effort to resolve the problem:
    1. Hardware -- tried different cables, different ethernet ports on the AEBS, direct modem to 24" iMac ethernet connection, but nothing worked. Confirmed that the Verizon modem and the AEBS did work using ethernet by plugging into older iMac. Also verified ethernet port working on 24" iMac by connecting computers directly and exchanging files.
    2. Software -- trashed cache files on both user account and main hard drive. Booted in using different accounts. Repaired permissions using disk utility. Tried different firmware on AEBS.
So I assume after all this that there is some file somewhere on my 24" iMac that is restricting, and now blocking, the internet over ethernet. I have not made any changes to the network preferences or any changes to my wifi network. If anyone has any recommendations or ideas for what to try next (trash preference files?) I would greatly appreciate the help.
