Wired mouse randomly jumps to corner

For months if not over a year now I've had an Apple mouse (model no A1152, EMC No 2058) which randomly jumps to a corner. It's nothing to do with the pad graphic as I bought a new one thinking this. The cursor will stay in the corner forever unless I lift the mouse from the pad and when it's placed back down it release. It's seriously annoying. I've swapped to the one my wife uses on her Mac BookPro (model no 5769 EMC No 1967) and the same thing happens. She is using my mouse and hasn't noticed it happening on the MBP!
To eliminate any further causes, I've also added a new drive to my MP and installed 10.6.8 (was on 10.5.8 on other drive) so effectively I'm working on a new machine!
Does anyone have any suggestions for the cause?
Thanks

Not sure what you're telling me here, I don't have a Wacom tablet...!!??

  • Wired Mouse Randomly Jumping

I have been using a basic optical wired mouse on my mac pro for about a year now but just recently (past day or two) the cursor has started jumping around when I move it.
    - I have checked to make sure everything is still connected well
    - I have tried several other mice but all have the same problem
    - The mouse pad can't be the problem since it is the same one I have been using prior to the cursor problems. Even so, I tried it on a darker surface which did not help.
I looked at several other posts with similar problems but couldnt find a good solution. This is extremely irritating as I am a 3d artist so any help would be appreciated!

The same here. I have an M-Audio fast track interface and when I turn it on, Mighty Mouse is no longer mighty; it jumps, goes crazy and does not respond to commands. I turn off the interface and goes back to normal. Also, I would turn the mouse off and on again, and it would work fine for, say, five minutes and then, would go back to its abnormal behavior.
I am now using my normal wired mouse and had no problem today with my editing and CG work. Are there any suggestions?
    Thank you

  • Mouse randomly jumping while using most tools in Photoshop CS4 and CS5.

    Hi,
I have recently been using my photoshop cs5 when all of a sudden the mouse has began to jump and move randomly when I am using some of the tools. For example, when I use the eraser tool it will not always, but frequently erase something in a random position on the page, and this is becoming a pain as I can be editing something zoomed right in and zoom out to find random areas of my drawing gone which can be very frustrating, but this problem is not restricted to the eraser tool, when I transform shapes with the transform tool occassional it will stretch the shape 4000pixels wide when I only go to increase it by 5, or when i try to move it, it just disappears and I find it outside of the drawing canvas.
This is really causing alot of issues for me, so how can I resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Ben.

Ok I am going to toss some thing out, they may sound silly or redundant but these are things we simply do not know that could cause issues.
What type of mouse pad do you have?
Highly reflective or worn smooth mouse pads or using desktop surfaces rather then a mouse pad can cause light distortion and cause jumppy behavior uneven survaces or highly reflective survfaces are bad too. the same can be said about overly light absorbent surfaces. as they can spread the light. Like if you are like me and have a wide arm cloth chair, you still need a mouse pad on the arm of the chair or your mouse pointer will jump as it travels accross the uneven surface.
Do you have any other usb devices installed?
Are you plugged into a USB hub and not the computer directly?
Is it possable its your keyboard thats causing the issue. Unplug the KB then see if the mouse still jumps.
let me know if any of this helpped.

  • Mouse pointer jumps to corner of secondary screen

We just upgraded to a new server running the latest Solaris with Sun VDI 3.1 which includes Sun Ray Server Software 4.2. I have multihead enabled and have 3 stations with dual-monitors/Sun Rays. On the second monitor, especially when dragging or scrolling, the mouse pointer jumps to the top-left of the screen. All three of us are experiencing this. Two have xinerama extension enabled, one does not have it enabled and says he's seeing the same behavior with the mouse. We have mix of Sun Ray 1G's and 2's, and one I'm using is a 170. I did not experience this with our old server running SRSS 3.1. Anything I can do to fix this problem? I appreciate any help.

Do you know when the next patch is due?Patch schedules are highly unpredictable. This patch is now in what's supposed to be its final QA cycle but if QA finds problems, or if a serious new issue is reported (especially if it's a security issue) then the whole thing might have to be rebuilt and possibly resynchronized with other patches in progress, and then retested on all supported platforms (which means reassigning QA resources that had been committed to other efforts). The best case for this patch that has reached this stage of the process might be two or three weeks. The worst case could be a month or two.
Alternatively, is there a hotfix available as many of our users are having difficulty at the moment. If you have a support contract then you can open and escalate a support call against the bug. After the escalation has been filed you can request an "IDR" ("Interim/Diagnostic Relief"), which is essentially an early build of the patch that contains the intended fix for that bug. The IDR will not have been tested by QA so there's some risk involved in taking it. This is one reason why we don't routinely publish IDRs. You have to decide whether that risk is outweighed by the pain the bug is causing.

  • My mouse pointer jumps to the top left corner every second

    Hi
I recently bought a Mac Mini, hoping to get into iOS development, everything was fine, but recently the mouse pointer has started jumping to the top left corner of the screen, this happens every time I try to move it, within 1 second of my moving the mouse, it's jumped back.
    It's made the system unusable.
I've searched online and found other people saying that their mouse pointers jump every two or three minutes, but mine jumps within a second of me moving it. I have two Dell monitors attched via apple HDMI to DVI and Displayport to DVI adaptors. I've tried different mice, it's still the same.
The problem is, even if there's a fix, I'm not sure that I could apply it, as I can't use the mouse at all.
    Can any one help?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • OSX update 10.10.2 causes mouse to jump around and text to be highlighted randomly in Dreamweaver CC 2014

OSX update 10.10.2 causes mouse to jump around and text to be highlighted randomly in Dreamweaver CC. When trying to click on a specific line of code in a js file the cursor ends up in a different place in the script and several lines of code highlighted. Clicking again jumps the mouse to a different position and even more lines of code highlighted and some characters rearranged, breaking the lines of code. Very frustrating.

    Preran,
I am having the same issue. I have a MBP connected to 2 x Dell 27" monitors over Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables. Once I updated to OS X 10.10.2 this cursor highlight/jumping around issue only occurs on the connected monitors. If I move the program to the main laptop display the issue goes away. It does not require me to restart the program or the machine to make it work correctly. One way I am able to identify the issue is if I go to the line numbers in code like I wanted to select multiple lines - in the one that works correctly, the cursor turns into a white version where the tip of the cursor points to the right. When it is wrong, the cursor stays black and will only have the tip point to the left. Its just another way I identified if it was working cause I tried uninstalling DW and reinstalling - didn't work. Reset preferences as you discussed - no go. And I used other editors like IntelliJ and Adobe Edge Code - all of which work fine and don't display this issue.
I tried the preferences reset you suggest and it doesn't work. I have another machine with OS X 10.10.1 on it and this issue is not there on any monitor. Any help with this ASAP as it pretty much stops you from being able to do any editing especially with longer pages as it consistently wants to page up when you select anything and if you then click again in another area it tries to move the highlighted code to that new spot.
Update: I have a USB Microsoft Arch touch mouse connected (always worked just fine). When I go to place my cursor at some point in the code it causes the highlight flicker. If I switch over and use the built in trackpad, then I can place the cursor without the highlight issue. When trying to select multiple lines or sections of code, that still see's the highlight, page up and move of code issues regardless of input type.

  • Wired mouse causes screens to move about

I've read problems with mouse cursors that move randomly. My problem is that the screens I'm working on jump around randomly when I touch my wired mouse. I've dis- and re-connected both mouse and keyboard; I've also changed mouse settings in System Preferences, but I can't stop screens from moving without losing use of mouse. Is there any way to reset? Will new mouse solve my problem?

Hi, have you tried:- SMC & PRAM resets..
I would also consider trying another mouse & keyboard combination so as to reassure yourself your existing K/B & Mouse are not giving the issue..L

  • Mouse pointer jumps to corners of screen

I am using a Mighty Mouse (wired) and have had problems with my mouse pointer jumping to the four corners of the screen. I then have to move the mouse around and find what corner it is in, and bring it back to where it was. It happens very often, and is very distracting.
I have had the same problem with a Microsoft wireless mouse and a previous Mighty Mouse.
Any ideas as to how the stop the jumping would be greatly appreciated.
    Snoopyknitter

The suggestion to follow the cord was evidently the correct one. I had my Mighty Mouse plugged into the usb port on the back of my Mac keyboard. When I realized this (I have had it set up this way since I got my G5) I plugged it into one of the usb ports on the back of the monitor. In several hours I haven't seen the pointer jump once.
I will leave it set up this way and watch, but I think this may have been the solution. To think it was such an easy solution and I have been putting up with this for several years!
    Thanks Thomas Bryant.

  • What is the proper way to disconnect a magic mouse and reconnect a wired mouse with new Mac Pro?

I can disconnect the magic mouse pairing, but when I then connect the wired mouse, it malfunctions. I can open folders, etc., but then I can't close them by clicking on the close button.

Thanks for your response. Actually, this is the first thing I did. But I just tried it again, and still the mouse malfunctions.
I can open a folder, but when I press the close button in the corner, a toolbar customization menu comes up, but the window does not close.
I have already chatted online with an apple tech several times and taken my computer in to an apple store tech -  but no resolution to the problem. The online tech could see the problem with screen sharing, but couldn't fix it, and the tech at the apple store could not replicate the problem. In pursuit of an answer, I have also purchased a new wireless mouse (which works), a new wired mouse, and a new keyboard.
I have a late 2013 Mac Pro running 10.9.5, connected by HDMI to a 27" LG IPS display (27EA83R). I am now going to purchase a new HDMI cable and see if that helps. If it doesn't, the only thing left that hasn't been replaced or tested by a tech is the display. I have been assured by both an LG tech and an apple tech that the display is almost certainly not the problem -  but at this point I am not sure I have the greatest confidence in these guys.

  • My magic mouse keeps jumping all over the page

Hi, my magic mouse keeps jumping all over the page and random apps keep appearing on my screen when I'm in facebook and it keeps sliding onto my dashboard screen.

Thanks so much for replying Barry.  Did what you said but took me 6 attempts to be able to reply to you so unfortunately did not work.  Have to wait over a week to get into Apple store so I guess I've just got to wait.  This is my second magic mouse and its driving me crazy.  Touch pad also playing up but thanks for the advice and have a good day.

  • Mighty Mouse Random Clicking

OK, so the search function is disabled until tomorrow, so please don't flame me for not searching...
Starting this morning, my mighty mouse (wired) started clicking (second button clicking, I think) randomly, preventing me essentially from using it as it would continuously click while I tried to work, pushing my current application into the background. Am using a wireless Microsoft mouse as a backup currently.
I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse numerous times, and have even unplugged and replugged the power supply (UPS) in case there was some kind of "lost ground" issue.
I am a new iMac user about to drop my Windows machine altogether, and this clicking problem is driving me crazy! Any suggestions?

I might have found the solution to your problem.
I just purchased an iMac for a friend, and was telling them how Mac's are a lot better than PC's. We removed his old PC, threw it aside and set-up his new Mac. When it was all set-up the mouse started to do this crazy clicking and entering Exposé randomly, also the right click function would not work.
My friend was not impressed with his first experience with Mac.
Anyway, we called Applecare to no avail, they didn't have a clue of what was happening. I then took the whole computer back to the store and they set it up at their shop to test it and it worked perfectly. I stood there scratching my head. I took the computer to my place and it worked perfectly there all day.
Later I took it back to my friends house and guess what? They mouse is going all crazy again.
We tried setting it up in different rooms in his house, also to no avail.
At this point we where going to return the whole system and get another one. Then I decided to use trusty Google search and I found this article in some forum www.macintouch.com/readerreports/mightymouse/topic4048.html I scrolled down and read many others with the same problem and what they did to solve the problem.
From the forum I gathered that there is a design flaw in the mouse that Apple doesn't know about. It makes the mouse extremely sensitive to your body's static electricity because it doesn't have proper grounding. That is why your Microsoft mouse works and the Mighty Mouse doesn't. I further gathered that the reason it worked at my house and not at my friends is probably due to bad earth connection at his house or to some appliance interfering with the static in the air.
The bad earth connection theory was pretty much proved by people stating that when they touched the metal case or the metal keyboard with one hand, and using the mouse with the other, the erratic behaviour would stop. Why? because you are earthing the static in your body through the metal on the iMac. Try it yourself, it should work.
There are 2 solutions to this:
    1. Get an qualified electrician to come to your house and check that the earth is 100% at your house.
    2. Get another mouse until Apple acknowledge the problem and fix it in their next batch of Mighty Mouse.
I didn't want to spend big buck to get an electrician to check the whole house, so I am opting for the second solution and taking the wired mouse that came with the iMac and swapping it for and unwired version, hopefully that will solve the problem. I'm going into the shop today, I will let you know how I went.
Sorry for the long response, but the more info you are armed with the better a fight you have to get Apple to solve the problem at minimum cost to you.
    I hope this helps you

  • Retina Macbook Pro randomly jumps to logon screen without warning

My Retina Macbook Pro randomly jumps to the logon screen while I am using it. When I log back in some programs have stopped running and any unsaved work has gone. It has happened while I am not typing or touching the keyboard or mouse as well.

I have the exact same problem with my Retina MBP. At first I thought it was occurring when I CMD+Tab-ed between apps but I've had it jump to the login screen without even toughing the computer. Very frustrating. Upon login I have to wait for apps to reload and I lose unsaved changes. Anyone have any advice?

  • Web pages randomly jump back

Web pages randomly jump back a page or two for no reason. It sometimes happens when I'm not touching the trackpad or the magic mouse. I am using a MacBook Pro O SX Version 10.7.4. It happens with Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome.

I'm having that problem with Firefox, but as I'm on the beta release, I thought that it was just a bug in Firefox. I seldom use Safari and never use Chrome, so I don't know if it's just an occasional problem with the OS or with my MacBook Pro.

  • Curser randomly jumping, hightlighting, deleting, self-scrolling...BARELY got this typed...

(It took me over an hour and many attempts to type/re-type this as the curser “took control”, kept deleting, etc…) My Pavilion dv5 curser is randomly jumping, highlighting, deleting, self-scrolling.
This problem subsides for periods of time as unexpectedly as it re-appears. I have ruled out “accidently touching touchpad” or “adjusting sensitivity” I use only a mouse and never the touchpad (which has always been unpredictable despite sensitivity adjustments)
…I posted something about this last year as well. I have very good security and have never had any other hacking issues, only this curser thing. What a waste of a morning! This is so frustrating!!!

Sanchertx has gives good solution, I just want you to try touchpad management tool, you can freely disable/enable any function of the touchpad.
    google "Synaptics touchpad tool"

  • TS3048 My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I've put new batteries in the mouse and the green light is blinking but it just won't connect!!! I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc!!! Pls help

My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I have tried many times, put new batteries in etc. The Bluetooth appears to be on (as the wireless keyboard is working). I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc. Is the mouse dead perhaps? The green light is flickering so it should be ok???
    Thank you for your help
    Sully (frustrated Irishman)

From what you say I would suggest the batteries are not connecting properly.
First, thoroughly clean all contacts, both inside the mouse and the contact points of the batteries.  Use an alcohol based cleaner (whisky will do, hic!)  dampen (not wet) cotton buds for cleaning.
Then check to see if they fit firmly.   If you can shake your mouse and hear things are loose, that will be the batteries.   Check the make.   Apple and Duracell, in that order, are the best batteries.   Where slight undersizing has been reported they are with other than the foregoing.
You can resolve the size problem with appropriate packing but that will always be a makeshift solution.  After, reassemble, turn on the mouse and with luck, away you go.
Hopefully this will solve your problem but in any case let us know how you get on.
