Wired mouse still needed for emergencies?

I bought my iMac with wired mouse and keyboard but later bought the bluetooth ones. Very nice. It appears I can do away with the wired keyboard, but there are circumstances when the BT Mighty Mouse does not work, such as when booted from a system disk (OS X install DVD). At those times I have to get out the old mouse and plug it in. I reckon the wireless mouse should work at all times, or forget about it.

Hi Jeffrey Shaw-
I actually have a wired keyboard in addition to a mouse.
Just in case.

  • Temporary wim-files for multicast transmissions still needed for WDS installation in Server 2012 R2?

    Acording to
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn281955.aspx one of the new features for WDS in Server 2012 R2 for multicast is:
Improved multicast deployment by eliminating the need for making a local copy of the install.wim file. You can apply the install.wim file while it is being downloaded without significant impact to the application process.
However, this doesn't seem to be activated by default and I still get the following error when installing one or more machines using multicast:
"Windows Setup cannot locate a valid hard drive to store temporary installation files." However, once I remove Multicast from this install image, it installs without any problems at all.
I have also noticed that while multicasting, the installation will use the "Copying Windows files" phase, while downloading and copying the install.wim (or whatever name it is) locally on the hard drive first, so this will require lots of space.
So the question is, how do you enable this new feature that should be a part of WDS in Server 2012 R2???

    Full version:
Following steps could help enable the feature:
    1.       Mount the boot image using dism.
    e.g.
    >dism /mount-wim /wimfile:c:\remoteinstall\boot\x64\images\boot.wim /index:2 /mountdir:c:\mount
    2.       Create a metadata file if no existing one. The metadata file should be in mountdir from the first step under mountdir\sources. And the file name should be: WdsClientMetadata.txt
    3.       Add entry to the metadata file: WDS.Client.Multicast.WIM.Streaming.Enabled=true
    4.       Save changes and unmount the boot image
    e.g.
    >dism /unmounts-wim /mountdir:c:\mount /commit
Sorry for the late reply, but I had to test this thoroughly since I didn't get it working right away. I tried both the regedit you first mentioned, and later also creating a textfile in the "/index:2 boot.wim", both without any success. I noticed
that creating the sources\WdsClientMetadata.txt with the data "WDS.Client.Multicast.WIM.Streaming.Enabled=true" gives me an error upon booting into WDS as follows (EUFI/IPv6-boot):
Same happens if I boot using IPv4 (an non-UEFI boot), except that there would be a plain IPv4-address instead in the error msg. Just for troubleshooting I tried writing WDS.Client.Multicast.WIM.Streaming.Enabled=false in the file instead, and WDS would throw
me the exact same error message. Once I delete the file sources\WdsClientMetadata.txt from the WDS/Boot image, the client boots ok, both for IPv4/IPv6. Disabling the firewall on the WDS didn't help, so something in the configuration is still missing? I'm getting
to a dead end here, and I suppose you're all out of advice on this one?
Thank you Shaon Shan for your great effort so far.

  • A few Neo4 questions (-5V still needed for onboard creative?)

My brother is upgrading his machine and I've been dealt the task of choosing his components  .  I've been scouring these forums and the PCP ones trying read up as much as possible on the Neo4 and am trying to figure out if this board still has the -5V problems with the onboard Sound Blaster.  From what I read the boards shipping now have had this problem fixed, but older ones in the beginning had this problem.  Has this issue actually been resolved now?
Is there any noticable difference between the Neo4 SLI and the Neo4 Platinum SLI? (I'll be buying either the SLI or Plat SLI in about 5 months or so myself.)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130487  (Plat SLI)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130492 (regular SLI)
Seems like the regular SLI is missing a few SATA ports, and that's it (perhaps some other minor differences I'm not seeing).
I may end up going with this board for him instead.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130484
However, he's stated that he wants the better onboard sound, but if he was stuck with this board, he'd buy an Audigy2 or something (but this adds another $100 or so to his total).
The differences between the SLI boards and vanilla Neo4 (with the exception of the onboard Creative) seem minimal at best.  I don't see any glaring differences that stands out.

Man, I wish we had a definitive answer from MSI.  I read this thread earlier today:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=e0a58bd39846e41ae63a3f38ebf05ecd&topic=80078.0
According to a few people in this thread, the newer boards don't have the -5V requirement.  It looks like I'll be going with the regular SLI Neo4, but I may get one of the PSUs in this thread instead of the Antec I wanted to buy (bought Antec for who knows how long, it's just my preferred brand, much like MSI ).  I just don't want my brother to get screwed over and find out the PSU I picked has issues with newer tech down the line.
[EDIT:]  And then there's this thread here which says that newer boards don't have the -5V requirement.
    http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=387607&highlight=creative
It's driving me nuts I tell you.
    [EDIT2:]  Found another one.
    http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=913884&highlight=neo4
I'm crossing my fingers that this issue has been fixed. :P

  • Additional BlackBerry service from provider still needed???

Hi. There I aske my provider (T-Mobile Germany) if the additional BlackBerry service you had to rent for the "classic" smarphones like my Bold 9700 is still needed for the z10. The gal at the phone didn't know.
    Do you???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
It is confirmed that BIS is not required for BB10. But, beyond that there remain many differences and things continue to change. The carriers must re-work their networks in order to continue to support legacy as well as BB10 devices, since they each work so differently. In that process, there have been many different reports.
Some report their carrier telling them they must keep BIS active on their Z10 until the carrier finishes their reconfiguration, at which time BIS can be dropped. Others report that they can get no services on their Z10 if BIS is at all active with their carrier for their device. Still others report services (both legacy as well as BB10) stopping, starting, stopping again, then starting again.
All in all, you need to talk to your specific carrier...they control what is required on their network as well as how their network is configured.
    Good luck!

  • Wired mouse for iMac

    Hello Apple users,
I have a problem, i'm really not that keen on the Apple wired mouse.
Just doesn't feel nice in the hand for prolonged use.
Does anyone have recommendations for a good wired mouse that will work properly with the iMac and that i don't need 3rd party drivers to make it work better?
I have a SteelSeries Kana mouse but with the standard apple drivers it really doesn't work well.
i.e moving the tracking slider 1 notch is the difference between really slow & really fast.
I have tried using SteerMouse as 3rd party drivers, it helps but its still not very accurate especially for editing audio when accuracy is key.
Any help anyone can provide will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Beano.

  • HT4112 how does one navigate with out the use of a mouse? do we still need to use finger to move to different things?

how does one navigate the keyboard without a mouse. Do we still use finger to move from place to place?

Yes you still need to use your finger to do all of the things that you need to use it for even if you use a wireless keyboard. You are merely adding a larger more robust keyboard to the device. You are not replacing the touch gestures features with the use of an external keyboard.

If your computer is running an OS X prior to Snow Leopard 10.6,
the answer (if it is an Intel-based Mac; not old PowerPC model)
would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD from Apple
for about $20, and install it. Then update that to 10.6.8 by using
the installed Snow Leopard online to get Combo Update v1.1 for
Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After that is installed & updated, run the
system's Software Update again, to see what else is available to
    that system.
Later systems can then be looked into at Mac App Store, once
the computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
And if your computer is a Power PC (G4/G5, etc) and has no
Core2Duo kind of CPU -- See "About this Mac" in apple menu
to disclose the general info about your Mac. Also you can see
even more by clicking on "More Info" when looking in there...
If it isn't an Intel-based Mac, it can't run a system past 10.5.8.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

I have to reformat my hard drive and reinstall all of my programs. What do I do about Creative Cloud? I also still need access to CS6 (I have a Marksware converter for InDesign to Quark).
This is a MacBook Pro 15" (Model number A1286) running Mavericks. Hard drive is fine but system software has been corrupted. I cannot simply restore from Time Machine as it will copy the corrupt system.
Will I have to find all of my serial numbers before I can launch any of the programs?
    Thanks

For the Cloud, you log in to your paid Cloud account and download & install the same way you did the first time
    Cloud Getting Started https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/topics/getting-started.html
If you have the perpetual license version of CS6 you install from your original media and use your serial number
If you have the version of CS6 that is installed via the cloud use this link

There is no serial number and you don't need one. What you need for a subscription is to SIGN IN within Acrobat, so it knows the subscriptions you own.

  • How can I turn a smart phone into a dumb phone (for punishment when I still need her to have a phone)?

I believe I am on the verge of needing to know how to turn my daughters phone into a dumb phone as a consequence.  I still need her to be able to call me, but not much else.  Anyone have any helpful hints?  She has a 5C.

Remove all the email accounts that are on the device.
    Turn off FaceTime & iMessage.
Create a new Apple ID using a new email address that you create, and that only you know the password to.
Use that Apple ID for Settings > iCloud and Settings > iTunes & App Store.
Delete all the third-party apps on the device.
Go into Setting > Cellular and disable all apps from using cellular data (except Find My iPhone).  Or even disable Cellular data totally.
Use the Restrictions option under Settings > General > Restrictions.  Create a Restrictions passcode that only you know
Disable the ability to use everything from Safari down to Carplay under the Restrictions.
Set all the allowed content to the most restricted options available.
Set the Allow Changes in Restrictions to prevent allowing changes to Account, Cellular Data Use, ad maybe even volume limit.
That pretty much makes it so she can make phone calls and use normal texting, but has no internet access, no way to browse online, no way to use any apps other than what's already pre-installed, can't use FaceTime, can't use the Camera, can't add email accounts to the device, can't change out the iCloud account, etc.  It basically dumbs the iPhone down as far as it can possibly go.

  • Hi, I forgot my user password mac 10.9.4 I don't need it to log in but i need it to make changes, etc. It says a password hasn't been set for this account but it still asks for one when i click on the lock icon. can anyone help me? thx!

This is a little confusing since you say you have forgotten your password and then the system says you have not entered a password.  Even with an Admin account you must have a password to install software.
If you are using Mac OS X 10.7 or above, you can change the admin password by restarting holding the Command and R keys, from the menu bar select Utilities, then Terminal.  When the Terminal window opens, at the cursor type exactly:
    resetpassword
and press Enter.  When the Reset Password window opens, select the internal hard drive, and then the user account.  Type a new password twice, leave the Hint blank, and then Save.  Accept the next dialog that opens, and at the bottom of the Reset Password window agree to resetting the home directory permissions.
Quit the Reset Password window, go to the apple left side of the menu bar, Restart.
And you have a new password for your account.

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The Sony RX100 III was first supported in Lightroom 5.5.
There will be no updates for older versions.
    So your choices:
    Upgrade to Lightroom 5, or
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Raw files from the RX100 III to DNG format then edit the DNGs in Lightroom 4.4

  • All my technology needs are now met with my iPad Air. Do I still need a computer for syncing etc?

All my technology needs are now met with my iPad Air. Do I still need a computer?

Only you can make that decision. If you say that all of your computer needs are met, then you have answered the question yourself.
I would never rely totally on iCloud for backups. I want more control than what Apple has to offer with iCloud and I don't want to have to pay for the storage that I need as the content on my iPad continues to grow. I realize that I had to buy the computer, as well, but I can backup my iPad to iTunes, backup my iTunes library with Time Machine and backup other files with another external drive that I have connected to my MacBook Pro.
I just don't trust all of my content being in the cloud or in Aplple's servers. Just a matter of choice.
