Wired network and axp

I have a linksys router and 2 axp configured to use as airtunes clients only. When I connect to the network wirelessly, I can access the axp's fine (well except for the intermittent dropout problem -- but that's another story). When I plug my laptop directly into the network router (I use a docking station sometimes), I can't find the axp's. I don't get it. Why can't I use the axp's if I'm plugged directly into the router? Thanks.

WRT54GX. Yes -- everything is updated. yes i connect through two different MAC addresses because my linksys card has a different mac than my ethernet card. I don't get it either. Because the wireless network is up and running, all the axp's are nicely green, I just can't see them when I put my laptop in its dock station (which i have connected directly to the wired output on the linksys router).

  • Wired Network and a Wireless Mac

I currently have a PC and Mac Mini hooked up to a D-Link DI-604 wired network and am considering purchasing an iBook that I would like to go wireless with.
Of course, right now my internet connection comes off my cable modem and into my router and I am unsure how to add a wireless network without having to upgrade all of my computers with wireless cards, in other words, maintain the wired network but add one wireless computer.
My cable company tells me if I add another modem that they will double my fee (two modems = two subscriptions) but they have no problem with me hooking up to 7 computers off a single modem.
So I guess my question is, can I plug the modem into the D-Link router and then run a cable from the router to an Airport Express and then wireless off to the ibook?
If the answer is yes, will I maintain my sanity during the attempt?
    Thank you.

Yes, you could cable an Airport Express to one of the spare LAN ports on the D-Link router.
However, a far less expensive alternative is to simply replace your existing D-Link router for a newer wireless router - keeping in mind most so-called "wireless routers" also provide up to four ethernet LAN ports for connections to non-wireless computers.

  • Not Connecting to Wired Network and Forcing the loss of all Connections on the Home Network

Just got a new G550 laptop  w/Win 7 OS. Tried to connect to wired router and got message "network cable not connected". Recycled laptop and router and came up with router connected to the laptop. Same message after search and identify steps finished. I then noticed I lost connection to the net/router with my other home networked units as well! Tried another cable, same results along with losing the entire home network connection. Disconnected the G550 from home network, via the cable, and the home network reconnected without any intervention. Tried another reboot directly connected to the cable modem, no go there either!
I also rebooted with the wireless search shutoff and got the same problems as on the wired attempt. Thought it might have been the NIC card so I exchanged the system back at the store.  Sorry, same problem!!

I have a very similar problem... New Lenovo G550, running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Right from the start it causes my TrendNet TEW-432BRP router to crash every 10 seconds. I bought a new DLink WBR-1310 and experience the same problem. Connecting to either router through either a wireless connection or a LAN cable connection causes the router to crash every 10 seconds. The router crashes, reboots, establishes a connection with the laptop, communication starts and then the router crashes again.
    I am looking for help.

  • Cannot log into T61 from remote computer with wired network and Windows Explorer.

    Hi,
    I am using a T61 7662-cto with Windows 7 Professional
When the T61 is connected on the home network with the wired network, I am not able to log into it remotely from another computer. On my second computer, I see the T61 with Windows Explorer but instead of getting the login window, it appears a Network Error with the message:
“Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network.” With a error code 0x80070035, “The network path was not found.” I tried the “Diagnose” button but it doesn’t give solution.
When the T61 is wireless connected, there is no problem. I can access it from my second computer.
I never have problem to connect to the second computer from the T61 with any connection type . I just updated the Intel Wireless LAN (bg, abg, abgn) for Windows 7 – ThinkPad, with the drivers required but it changes nothing.

  • HP CP1525nw - Connect via wired network and wireless ad hoc?

At my job we have our HP 1525nw printer connected into the network printserver via ethernet cable.  The printer has its own IP address setup on the network.
With support for XP computers ceasing, a copule of computers will be cut off/blocked from the job's network.  One computer is close enough where we can make a USB connection to print.  Another is located on another bench.  Furthermore, the one that is further away from the printer also can't be upgraded to a compliant Windows OS due to incompatibility with specialized software used to operate equipment hooked up to this computer.
Is it at all possible for this wired network printer to also be setup to print wireless via an ad hoc connection?  The idea was perhaps we could install a wireless card on thix XP computer and  print wirelessly via a direct connection to the printer, avoiding having to connect to it via the wired network at all.  But it is sounding like this wouldn't be possible.  Looking for a direct answer before I start shopping around for a wireless PCI card.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

From other posts I have read, I think the CP1525 can be either ethernet or wireless not both at the same time.  That will prevent you from setting up with an adhoc network the way you described.
You might try an inexpensive wireless router with a build in print server attached to the usb port.  then add wireless USB wireless dongles to the XP computers.  Be sure you make sure that the wireless dongles support XP. Also for security purposes you will want to leave the wireless router disconnected from your network.
If your fairly tecky and you don't mind playing a bit you could check your local thrift store for a used router with a print server.  For printing you don't need the fastest wireless available.  Just make sure it is a b/g router (not a B only one).

  • Wireless losing connection to wired network and lan

I have a customer that has an 871W ISR. They are using WEP encryption and a mix of b and g cards. Recently they have started losing connection to all of their wired network resources and the wan, but they don't lose association with the 871W itself. They show excellent signal strangth and keep their IPs. A reboot of the router immediately fixes the problem. There seems to be no pattern or common event that triggers any of this. Anyone else seen this problem before? It started happening after I did a sh tech and the router locked up halfway through it, so I had to reboot. I've reloaded the image thinking that may fix the problem and it has not.

You can clear the interface statistics on the Detailed Status tab, and let traffic run for a time, then refresh the statistics. The ratio of errors to good packets sent and received should be better than it was prior to the test.

Connected to my network via a wired connection
I have a Pro 8500 a 910 and at the moment I successfully scan documents to a folder on my PC

How ever when I try to set this up I don't seem able to get it to connect when I run the connection test.
I do not know if I have the username/passwords wrong or the path is incorrect
I have tried inputting my PC username and password as well as the NAS's username and password
The path I am trying is \\mesh-PC\Network\NAS\outlookpartnerships\NAS Scans
mesh-PC being my PC and the folder names after NAS is the location on the storage device
I have tried all combinations of folders and user names etc but at the moment I don't seem to able to get it to work.
Any assistance you can give me in this matter would be appreciated

Firstly, time to get rid of the 2 x 512MB FBDIMMs in there, they add more heat and use more watts then they add to the system. If you need more, and 4 or 8 DIMMs is ideal, Amazon has 2x2GB sets $22 - about 1/50th what I paid for 1GB new.
    Buy a 250GB Samsung EVO SSD $129
Pick up Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.bombich.com to clone the system to the SSD
A sled adapter for the SSD from Icy Dock $14 Amazon.com
7-8 years overdue for new system drive! amazed it lasted this long. An SSD plus some WD Black 2TB drives or larger should do the trick.
you can also put the SSD in the lower optical drive bay and use one of the two ODD "spare" SATA ports for the SSD - an SSD is the best way to improve the performance of our old Mac Pro 2006-7 models.
When you downloaded the Lion installer that was when to create a flash type installer with Lion DiskMaker.
If you have put in a new-ish graphic card then OS X 10.6.0 may not support it.

  • Does the HP8600 support concurrent connections over both Wired Network and USB

I am having problems accessing the printer over the network could this be due to having a USB connection running with with a local PC.

    Hi RoyJames,
What type of device are you trying to connect to the printer?  It is possible to have the printer connected via USB for one device and connected via network for another.
    Hope this helps.

  • Wired network and router

In one room of my house I have a satellite modem connect to a wireless linksys router. I want to add a couple of network storage devices to my network, but in another room. Do I need a 2nd router in that room to attach them to, or could I use a hub and a wireless access point to make those devices visible on my wireless network?

A hub and a wireless AP will do just fine

  • ACS 5.4 with DACL over wireless and wired network

Hi my name is Ivan, I have a question
I have a deployment in my network wired at this way:
Profile 1: corporate's users are working with 802.1X to authenticate computers and users with eap peap mschap v2 and Mac Filtering configuring in the Cisco WLC. My ACS 5.4 is integrate to the Active Directory.
Profile 2: Telephonies IP authenticate with MAB. All the Mac Address are registered in to the ACS locally.
Profile 3: user guest authenticate with portal web from Cisco Wireless Lan Controller over the wired network, and the account exist in to the WLC Lobby Ambassador
A my deployment in the wireless network is in this way:
Flex Connect with central authentication and local switching to connect 15 sites over the wan network.
SSID 1: users corporate working with 802.1X to authenticate users with peap mschap v2 and Mac Filtering configuring in the Cisco WLC. My ACS 5.4 is integrate to Active Directory.
SSID 2: users guest working with portal web from Cisco Wireless Lan Controller over the wireless network, and the account exist in to the WLC Lobby Ambassador.
I would like to configure in the Cisco ACS 5.4 Downloadable Access List (DACL) to use in my network wired and wireless.
How can I do it to my scenary?
    Please could you help me?
    Regards
    Ivan.

Hello. To avoid confusion, let's divide the WLC based upon the operating system.
There are WLCs who run AirOS. That includes WLC 4400, but also includes WLC 5500.
There are WLCs who run IOS-XE. That includes the new Catalyst 3850-X and WLC 5700. (also I think can run AirOS too).
IOS-XE fully support DACL. On the other hand AirOS support DACL partially.
From ACS point of view, when you configure DACL for IOS you configure not only the name of the access-list, but also the access-list entries. That way the IOS devices don't need to have the ACLs pre-configured. This is great because  you only need to create and update the access-list entries from only one place (which is ACS) and deploy easily to hundreds of switches.
On the other hand, when ACS configures DACL for AirOS it can only specify the name of the access-list. The AirOS device needs to configure the access-list with a name exactly as configured on the ACS. Sadly, each AirOS device also needs to configure all acess-list entries.
It seems you want to configure DACL along with other attributes. If you explain me a little more your requirement I can show you what to configure.
    Best regards

  • Wired network problems

    Hi there,
I'm having problems with my wired network and desktop machine running arch.
my problem is the internet connection when browsing keeps appearing to drop when I'm running other internet based things. For instance if I'm downloading a torrent in ktorrent even if the torrent is downloading slowly then browsing becomes impossible. Or if pacman is running browsing again becomes impossible. Sometimes it appears to drop when nothing else is running.
The internet connection is fine because my laptop (also running arch) and on a wired connection works perfectly every time. I have tried swapping from the built-in network card to another one with no success, I have tried changing the cables with no joy.
The internet worked fine on this machine until I reinstalled arch on a different hard disk, i'm completely at a loss as to what the problem could be.

As you can see currently I have the onboard LAN card enabled and connected to the network, the Realtek card isn't connected to the network and nor is the wireless card. I only re-anabled the onboard card to test to make sure that it wasn't a problem with the Realtek card, and it doesn't seem to be.
I have copied all my data across the network onto my server without a problem, therefore it seems to be just a problem accessing the internet. Because all my data is now sat on my server it means I can do a completely fresh install onto this computer but i know that isn't really the Linux way
This machine does dual boot with windows so I might boot into window to see if the problem happens when using that.

  • Bridging Wired Network with AE?

    Hi All,
I've got a wired network without DHCP service, so all IP addresses of the connected computers / printers are assigned manually. The range of available IP addresses runs from 192.168.30.1 to 192.168.30.139.
What I would like to do is add a wireless component to this LAN by means of an Airport Express basestation. I've connected the ethernet port of the AE to the existing wired network, and used the Airport Admin Utility to configure the unit:
    Internet tab
    Connect Using: Ethernet
    Configure: Manually
    IP address: 192.168.30.10
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router address: 192.168.30.1
    DNS servers of ISP
    [No Domain name]
    WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic (Default).
    Network tab
    Distribute IP addresses: DISABLED
    Network configuration on the laptop (12' Powerbook G4, MacOS X v. 10.4.8):
    TCP/IP settings:
    Configure: Manually
    IP address: 192.168.30.120
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router address: 192.168.30.1
    DNS servers of ISP
    [No Domain name]
From the laptop I can log onto the wireless network, but there is no way to get a connection to the internet (through the specified router). What am I doing wrong? (Is this possible at all?)
    Please help!

System Preferences/Sharing/Personal File Sharing will give access to the Public folders on the Macs for those users who don't have an account on those Macs. It will give complete access to the entire internal hard drive (except for other users' home directories) to those who have an account on those Macs.

  • Time Capsule w/o wireless on existing wired network.

I'd like to plug in a Time Capsule (1TB) into an existing wired network and use it as a central Time Machine backup device for multiple workstations. The wireless can remain on/off, I don't really need it. I just want it for the central storage.
Will Time Capsule work that way?

I have a similar but sort of in reverse. I have set up my Mac Air via ethernet and would like to get my PC to do a backup as well to Time Capsule. I have put the airport utility on my PC and it recognizes the TC. How do i tell it to backup since I don't have something like Time Machine on the PC?

  • Time Capsule - Can it run as DHCP router, create a wireless network and plug into switch for wired network all at the same time?

I have a closet with Wired connections from all over the house terminating in it. I also have the internet modem and a switch in this closet. My old setup was a netgear in the closet creating a wireless network and also feeding the Ethernet ports all over the house. In my room, I had an Airport express (a month old) bridging the wifi to make the wifi network larger. The Express was hard wired from the wall and my mac mini was using it's wifi (printer was plugged into other ethernet port). Everything was working great.
Fast forward to last week. My Netgear died. So, I bought a time capsule. My plan was to move the Express to the closet and have it create the wifi network and also then run cat 5 cord from express to the switch to feed all the wired wall plugs. Reset it and set it up to create the wifi network as well as DCHP NAT. Wireless was running great on it. Then I plugged in the Cat 5 in the second Ethernet Port to the switch. Wifi stopped working and none of the computers would connect using wired connections either. They would see a 'network' but nothing would work. I would unplug the Cat 5 feeding the swtich and the wireless would start working again. Plug the Cat 5 back in and wireless would stop.
So I thought I would try the Time Capsule in the closet and see if I could get it to work. Pretty much the same thing, except at this point I figured out if I went in and told it NOT to create a wifi network the wired portion worked fine and all the wired computers in the house worked fine. Of course, then I didn't have Wifi.
I'm not clueless when it comes to networking, but I can NOT figure this out! Can either the Time Capsule or Express Create the wifi network AND also feed the data to the switch for all the wired computers?
To simplify this is what I want my end result to be. I prefer the Time Capsule to be the wireless connection extender, but if I have to have the Express do it, I'm fine with that.
    1. Express in the closet creating the wifi network as well as feeding the data to the wired connections via my switch.
    2. have the Time capsule in my room at the opposite end of the house plugged into the hard wired connection to extend the wrieless network as well as have wired connections such as my printer and my Mac Mini.
If I can get #1 to work, I don't think I'll have any problems with #2. Help!

I have an equally complex setup with a managed switch actually but I have never seen the TC have this kind of issue.
What I do notice is you have changed the TC from defaults.. you are using a non-default IP range.
I have run across issues like this where people move things from default.
I would like you to start over.. factory reset the TC. That will set it back to default router mode.
Do the min setup on the TC..
    1. Change all names from what you were using. That includes the TC name and wireless name/s
Make them short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric because that is the correct way to network. Apple default names with spaces and apostrophes are fundamentally bad.
    2. With just the TC plugged into the switch.. and a single computer connected by ethernet. Power cycle the whole network.. this allows the switch to clear all the old MAC address.
    3. Test on the computer just ethernet. Turn the wireless off.
The computer must use dhcp and must get an ip from the TC.
It has to get the correct Router.. ie Gateway.. I wish apple could stick with proper network terminology.
And it must get same address or valid DNS server address/es.
If it fails.. please plug ethernet directly to the TC.. bypassing the switch.
You should get the standard IP addressing and internet connection.
If not please post the screenshot from the Mac of the network preferences showing the ethernet setup.
I need to see what address it does get. I need you to make sure the ethernet is the TOP of the list. So rearrange the order of network connection. With the airport off it should just go to the top of the list.
If it appears to be working .. but a browser cannot connect, open a terminal and ping an internet address.
Ping the actual gateway address the ISP gives you and ping the ISP dns address.

  • Wireless and Wired Network/Bonjour Printer Settings.

I am setting up a network for a preschool that has six Macs (MacBook, iMac Intel, Mac Mini Intel, eMac G4, iMac G5) on a network spread out around the school. Some teachers bring in their own laptops, but no frequently and most are Macs.
The network is currently arranged like this:
    Office:
Bellsouth DSL Router with one RJ-45 ethernet wire running to the WAN port on an Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11g).
One RJ-45 ethernet wire runs from the Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11g) LAN port out of the office to a network switch in the Library.
All three Macs in the Office are currently connected wirelessly with Airport cards.
    Library/Lounge:
One network switch with an RJ-45 ethernet wire from the Office running into it and two RJ-45 ethernet wires running out of it to:
One eMac connected via ethernet from the switch in the library.
One iMac G5 connected via ethernet from the switch to the Teacher's Lounge.
I am currently sharing one laser printer via Bonjour that is plugged directly into the Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11g) via USB in the office.
There is currently one inkjet in the Teacher's Lounge plugged directly into the iMac G5 and is being shared from that iMac.
    Here is my question:
I would like to hardwire the iMac Intel and Mac Mini (office Macs) directly to the network to improve file transfer speed between the Accountant's Mini and the Office Manager's iMac Intel. I have two options, I could run a wire to a network switch from the Lan port from the Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and then connect the two Office Macs and the two Library/Lounge Macs directly from there and I assume that all thusly connected Macs would have Bonjour access to the laser printer. However, I noticed a setting in the (round topped) Airport Extreme's setup utility that said something about "do you want to connect to Bonjour with a wired (whatever" I can't remember the wording exactly, but does a setting like this one need to be checked to share that printer both across the wireless network AND the wired computers as well?
I want to be able to share the laser across the network and the inkjet that is being shared from the G5 across the network and a future Office inkjet that, I assume, I will have to plug into one of the Office Macs to share. I can't put a USB hub on the AAEX to share via Bonjour, so my options seem to be limited. Any suggestions or workarounds for doing this better?
Do the new "N" Airports allow printers to be daisy-chained on a USB hub and shared via Bonjour?
BTW, I prefer Bonjour from the AAEX because the printer's available even when all other Macs are off or sleeping.

I guess we're discussing the same here
