Wired network in office not seen from relay base station side

After a number of false starts I have a wireless set-up between my office and a remote location. All five Macs in the office are wired to a router which is wired to the cable modem. The Airport base station in the office is connected with the the WAN port to the router. Base station is set up as a WDS.
The remote base station is set up as a relay base station and WDS and we go wireless between it and the Mac at that location.
While I have a fast internet connection from the remote location, I expected to see the 5 Macs in the office and be able to connect to them. I don't.
What settings must I play with to be able to connect to Macs in the office? I might note that I don't see the remote computer from the office either. So the problem is both ways.

  • Can you run a wired router from the base station?

I have a Airport Extreme base station, I bought it about 6 months ago so it's not too old. My question is can you plug a wired switch, hub or router into it? I was told no at the apple store but I don't see why you could not. All I want to do is run a 8 port switch from the base station so I can connect my other wired comps to the net. Thanks!

My question is can you plug a wired switch, hub or router into it?
Yes, just connect it to the LAN port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).
I was told no at the apple store...
    They gave you incorrect information.

  • Remote base station versus relay base station

Okay, I give up. What is the difference between a remote and a relay? Can I daisy chain relay base stations? Will remote base stations act as "relays"? Are there any tricks to setting up the relay stations (remotes seem completely straightforward)? What are the positives and negatives of each?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It seems like the distinction is more important if you want a wired connection to the station. If you're just tring to create a robust wireless network, can you do many remotes but just one relay? It seems like relay would be the way to go if there was no limitation on how many.

  • Itunes speaker name not supported by this base station

I get this message when I try to enable airtunes on my AX using the new Airport Utility:
--The setting "itunes speaker name" is not supported by this base station--
I have reloaded the firmware, done a couple hard resets, no dice.
    Anyone seen this before?
If I try to use the old airport admin utility I don't see the "music" tab used to inspect and change the speaker name and password.
And the AX does not show up in the iTunes speaker list.
    TIA for ideas,
    UPMG

    Welcome to Discussions, andrewmalone!
Unless it's brand new, to get a signal you'll need to reset to factory default to clear the previous conflicting profile. Refer to the last section "How to perform a factory default reset" on this page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
To confirm successful reset after a minute, you should see the Express's default name (Apple Network ____) in your menu bar's AirPort icon.

  • Adding remote/relay base stations

    hello,
re network with AEBSn's and Airport Express's
is it possible to add more than 4 remotes to a network? In Airport Utility under the WDS page (participate in a network), it only seems to allow 4 remotes added when setting up the main base station.
can remotes be connected both by WDS and ethernet cable?
are relay stations required to be connected by ethernet cable or can they be WDS as well?
when setting up a relay base station, should the station also be listed as a remote under the main station?
finally, when do I use 'Participate' vs. 'Extend' a network under the wireless tab in Airport Utility?
I've read the article "Designing Airport Networks" and can't find clear answers to the above.
also, I do understand band width will suffer with multiple base stations
    any help appreciated.
    kind regards, Scott.

is it possible to add more than 4 remotes to a network? In Airport Utility under the WDS page (participate in a network), it only seems to allow 4 remotes added when setting up the main base station.
Yes, but indirectly. You can only add four remotes or four relays (with up to four remotes attached to the relay) to a main base station ... for a total of twenty-one base stations in a WDS.
can remotes be connected both by WDS and ethernet cable?
If a base station is connected by Ethernet, it is no longer participating in a WDS.
are relay stations required to be connected by ethernet cable or can they be WDS as well?
    They would be wireless.
finally, when do I use 'Participate' vs. 'Extend' a network under the wireless tab in Airport Utility?
Use "Participate" when you are creating a WDS; use "Extend" when you want to extend a 802.11n network wirelessly with an additional 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).

  • Trying to reconnect airport express to time machine but express not showing up in base station.  unfortunately clicked forgot in airport utility and express no longer shows up.  how to reconnect?

trying to reconnect airport express to time machine but express not showing up in base station.  unfortunately clicked forgot in airport utility and express no longer shows up.  how to reconnect?

I would recommend setting the wireless encryption on the AirPort Express BEFORE configuring it for the AirPort Extreme in this case. This issue also comes up often when configuring AirPorts into a WDS.
If setting up security in my recommend order does not work, temporarily connect the Express by Ethernet to the Extreme; make the security changes, and then, move the Express back to the desired location.

  • RELAY BASE STATION

    1) Should I have Airport EXTREME or EXPRESS connected to the modem, then use an additional Airport EXTREME or EXPRESS as relay base station? Could either Airport EXTREME or EXPRESS be a relay base station?
    2) If I’m correct, the base station (connected to the modem), will connect to the RELAY BASE STATION which could additionally connect to other airports/ PC within its RANGE.
    3) Which Airport is best to use as relay base?
    Many thanks

    1) Should I have Airport EXTREME or EXPRESS connected to the modem, then use an additional Airport EXTREME or EXPRESS as relay base station? Could either Airport EXTREME or EXPRESS be a relay base station?
You could have either connected to the modem. Either can be a relay base station.
    2) If I’m correct, the base station (connected to the modem), will connect to the RELAY BASE STATION which could additionally connect to other airports/ PC within its RANGE.
    That is correct.
    3) Which Airport is best to use as relay base?
Depends on what you consider most important. If cost is, then the AirPort Express would be the best option.

    Hi Harish,
Check whether your SecStore.properties file exists in <SID>\SYS\global\security\data folder. If not, place that file from the backups you have.

  • X3-02 RM-639 v7.51 fw not seen from Nokia update

Why does the 7.51 version firmware not appear from within the Nokia Suite as an available update?  x3-02 RM-639 here currently at v5.65.

Updates vary by region and product code and operator handsets, which may be locked and in most cases you are left waiting,
Contact your provider if your handset is locked and ask them. After that you may just wait.

  • Organizations are not seen from Application R12

    Hi,
I have installed R12.1 Fresh Database in my laptop and its running fine. I created Location, Organization and Organization classification using HRMS super user responsibility. When I opened the organizations window the organization that I created is not seen but they are stored in database. Is there any setup that I am missing?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
To access UK SHRMS Manager I changed the profile value for UK SHRMS Managers responsibiity. I choose "HR User" value at Responsibilty level for "HR User Type" Profile.
    Then I created location.
    UK SHRMS Manager>Work Structures>Location
    Then I created Organization
    UK SHRMS Manager>Work Structures>Organization>Description
I classified this organization as Business Group.
I closed all the windows. When I tried to query the organization that I created, only the default Business Group (Setup Business Group) is seen. But I can see all the organizations that I created in the database.
I hope this will give you some idea to fix my problem.
    Thanks in advance

  • Computer/devices will not recognize newly installed base station and make a network connection.

iMac running latest version of Yosemite, 6.3.4 version of Airport Utility, 2TB Airport Time Capsule 802.11ac. Installed latest base station as a replacement for an earlier 3T model and with Apple Tech Support was finally able to establish wireless internet connection. Time Machine nor printer connections cannot recognize the new base station/network.

Unless you have changed the settings on your Mac in Time Machine > Preferences to update them for your new Time Capsule, Time Machine is still programmed to remember and use the old settings to find your old Time Capsule, which is no longer there.
Open up Time Machine / Preferences and remove the current disk that is being used with Time Machine.
Then, click Select Disk, click on your current Time Capsule disk (likely called Data unless you have changed it) to highlight it, then click Use Disk
The first backup to the new Time Capsule should start in a few minutes.
As far as the printer, the same conditions likely exist......namely that your printer is remembering the settings to communicate with your old Time Capsule, which is no longer there, so you need to tell your printer that you have a new Time Capsule and provide it with the correct settings to connect.
Start over again, just as if the printer was new, and set up the printer again to connect to the new Time Capsule.

  • Time capsule not working as wireless base station suddenly

I have been using my time capsule as base station for wireless network in our house for some time and suddenly network is not working for all wireless devices in the house.  Desktop imac is connected to internet via ethernet cable through time capsule and works fine so I know problem is not with cable modem or signal coming to house.  Laptops appear to be connected to my network fine but when attempting to connect any site through safari or firefox I just get the spinning wheel thingy.

Check that the laptops are getting DNS and router (gateway) from the TC.. if not reset it and do the setup again.
What OS are you actually running on the laptops.. this problem started with Lion and is much worse in ML.. it is actually not a Snow Leopard issue which you list as the OS.

  • Having problems with one computer not "seeing" the Airport base station.

    Aloha:
I have an Airport router hooked up to the internet via Cable. I have a laptop and G4 desktop talking to the the Airport Base Station via their respective Airport cards. This allows me to get to the internet with both of my computers. This system has worked just fine for several years, but recently my desktop computer has started to be unable to connect to my Airport Base Station. At first it was intermittent, but now it has stopped completely. The laptop continues to be able to get to the internet via my Airport base station.
The desktop is running OS 10.3.9 and the airport card in the desktop passes the hardware test that came with the laptop. But it can no longer see the signal from the ABS.
    What might my problem be?
    Dan

    Hi Clinton:
I have tried that to no avail. I don't see any
signal, so I see no networks "in the box below" to
choose. My airport card does not see a signal, but
the airport card checks out ok in the hardware test.
Thanks for replying, Clinton, much appreciated.
    Dan
Have you tried choosing "other..." and then entering the name of your network?

  • Airport Utility does not see Airport Extreme Base Station

Purchased Airport Extreme yesterday at Apple Store to replace old Netgear Router. Wanted wireless network to work with 2 identical HP Laptops running XP with SP3 and 2 iPod touches, and possible future purchases of iPad 2 and Apple TV. Installed Airport Utility software from CD on Dell Studio running Windows 7. Connected Airport Extreme to cable modem and Dell Studio. Ran Airport Utility software to configure Base Station but it did not recognize the Base Station. Base Station had blinking amber light. Did have internet connectivity on Dell Studio, and wireless internet connectivity on 2 iPod touches, and on one HP Laptop. No wireless internet on other HP Laptop. But wireless internet connection was unsecured and Airport Utility did not see Airport Extreme so could not configure it to make it secure. Contacted Apple Customer support. After 30-40 minutes of attempting several different possible fixes only able to use Airport Utility to configure Airport Extreme remotely, wirelessly, from one HP Laptop, not the Dell Studio that is directly connected to the base station. Now that the base station is configured the network is secure. However, second HP Laptop cannot connect to primary wireless network. I created password protected "Guest" network using Airport Utility, and laptop is able to connect to this Guest network. From reviewing forums am now able to configure Airport Extreme with Airport Utility by using "Configure other" on Dell computer. But utility cannot find device by scanning. Would like to find way to (1) have Airport Utility on Windows 7 Dell see Airport Extreme by scanning and not using "configure other," and (2) have 2nd HP Laptop connect to primary network and not "guest' network. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bob - Thanks so much for your quick reply. I followed your suggestions and, to go into perhaps unnecessary detail, I'll write what I did. I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. I disabled Windows Firewall, uninstalled my anti-virus program, and uninstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, recycled by cable modem (took out the battery and unplugged it for about 20 seconds), then restarted my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Macbook does not see airport extreme base station

    Hi
I set up my airport extreme several years ago.  I recently noticed that, under "security," the guest network says "WPA2 secured," but the main network says "none."  Is this a problem; i.e., does the main network lack security?  Further, when I open the airport utility, it cannot find a base station.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!
