Wired ports not connecting

Have a WRT600N that works fine on both wireless bands, but simply will not connect on any of the 4 wired ports. I've tried 2 different ethernet cables (both confirmed working via the modem), 2 different computers, 2 different OSes. Nothing. LEDs light up on both ends to indicate a gig connection, but adapter can't get an IP. Apadter status always shows zero bytes received (on BOTH computers). Weird thing is, it WILL get an IP if a machien is conencted via wire AND wireless; I assume the IP is somehow being assigned by conencting through the wireless link, as the wired adapter still shows zero B received.
I've done multiple resets to no avail.  I've read all the troubleshooting tips and other posts indicating similar problems. I've hit a wall and suspect that the router is physically hooped.
Anybody know something worth trying before I am force to buy a new one?

The reason why I'm asking you to disable the wireless is to avoid conflict while we troubleshoot your wired connection. If the wireless adapter obtains an IP from the router first, the wired connection might have trouble getting an IP from the router. This is for isolation purposes only.
If you want an easier path, upgrade your router's firmware. If you already did that, try re-flashing it.

  • Ethernet port not connected - airport working - not able to get online

Hi, new poster. Never had an issue with our beloved iMac 20 inch Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz - 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. It's old but it serves us, we hope it's not shot. Power goes out a lot here, system has surge protection but no battery backup. System just goes down without being shutdown properly. We used wired Ethernet. No the problem. Last time power just went out, the system would not boot up. I searched around and found out to use the DVD to verify/repair disk. It finally did and system now boots up. However, it says the Ethernet is not connected. It is. I tried three different cables that worked with our laptop and two different routers, all that happens is the light on the router flashed on and off. While on the network status in sys pref displays no cable detected vs. Cable connected but not connected to internet. Assumed the port was shot. OK, turned on the airport. Connects, gets DHCP assigned IP address and/or accepts static IP but when we launch Safari says it can't connect. Tried Opera browser, same thing. Sophos AV also can't connect for updates. All these network configurations had worked previously until this last power outage. Searched for help, as I don't want to waste peoples time. Found out about these things that follow: SMC RESET - PRAM RESET - Delete connection and recreate same - Network Diagnostics - Hardware Diagnostics - Verify & Repair disk ••• Nothing makes it connect to Internet. Network diagnostics gets to end but will not get connected. Hardware diagnostics regular and extended report no issues. We think the logic board is shot given everything we tried and symptoms with system. Can anyone suggest something we did not try of the things we did listed above? Please help us save this thing from the recycling center. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post, wanted to be thorough with what's going on and what we have already tried and done thanks to searching these forums for the last week.

    Yikes, sounds like big problems!

    Hello,
Since a couple of hours, my Ethernet interface (through a Thunderbolt or USB connector) remains "not connected".
I couldn't find a clear answer to this problem ... Any idea ?

  • Wired port not conencting

I have a poor wired connection running to my bedroom - only 4 wires available instead of the 8 wire Cat-5. I have had an old Airport connected (original model) and it worked fine. I tried to upgrade to the new Airport Extreme and the internet connection does not work. The Airport Extreme works fine at other locations so I dont think it has the problem. Further, I cannot get my Apple TV or Mac Book Pro to connect at this wire. The original Airport still connects fine, however. The ethernet is operating on wires 1,2,3 and 6 only.
Any thoughts? (I realize that this is not proper set-up, but this is all I can do)

Not sure what else to try. Could the wire type be part of the problem? Not using cat-5 but using 8 wire phone cable, and four of the wires are being used for the phone jack. Still seems strange that everything would be fine with Airport device (802.11B only) and not with any of the 802.11G or N devices I have tried (Linksys, Airport Extreme N, Apple TV)

  • Green ethernet short reach result in port not connecting(no Link)

    Hi
I noticed problem with connection of a computer.
Same connection had worked without a problem before.
DHCP failed due to no connection resulting in windows7 assigning a IP address, no network
When inserting RJ45 the Green link led turned on for a brief moment.
Only got a 100Mbit FD connection after some jugglinng with rj45 in both ends.
In case of  oxid building over nigth
The cable is more than 10 meters.
A fluke network tester had problem connecting to ports with a 1 m cable.
This usually means autoneg problem or low voltage.
When I turned off green ethernet/short reach  for the switch(sg300-20) and  I got a 1000Mbit FD without a problem.
I have previously noted that the voltage on the transmitter from the switch is on the low side using a Fluke network tester.
I got around 0.5 V and I prefer much higher.
I guess turning green features on and trying to use a longer cable is to stretch the luck  a tad to much.
    /Per

Thanks for the suggestions JMVP. I checked all the emacs on the network that could connect to the internet and they had the same settings as the emac server. I also performed the terminal command like you suggested and that did not work either.
What I ended up doing was using the Apple USB Ethernet adapter and some 3rd party drivers to get the emac server online. It's not really solving the problem of the port, but it's a quick fix for now.
Mahalo for everyone's help! If you guys think of anything else, please reply!

  • Air port not connecting

I have a linksys wireless internet connector for three macbooks. the first two connect well but when i try to connect to the wifi, an ! symbol appears. the internet worked before on this computer

On the affect Mac reset the Airport connections. First turn off the Airport card then open System Preferences->Network pane . In there delete your Airport icon and don't panic because if you follow the directions it will be back. Then you must reboot your Mac immediately after deleting the Airport card.
Upon the reboot do nothing else but go back in System Preferences->Network pane. In there hit the + button and add the Airport connection again. Don't try to use the Airport card yet! Then you must reboot again!
After this last reboot do the Reset Pram procedure! Then at last you can go into the System Preferences->Network pane and then move the Airport icon to the top of the left hand pane. Then in the Airport card pane turn the Airport card on and configure it for you wireless network.
Hopefully doing this procedure will help reset your Airport card. Please report back if this helps or not, Good Luck.

  • FW800 port not connecting

    Hi all, noob here.
So I have a 15 inch powerbook that is only a few months old. I've been editing a few video projects in FCP and everything had been going smoothly until today. I have a 4TB G-Raid external hard drive and 2 portable 500GB Lacie external hard drives.
I had the 4TB hard drive connected and went to daisy chain one of the 500GB externals. Oddly enough, it kicked the 4TB off but still connected the 500GB. Since then, I have been unable to get the 4TB to connect, either through USB or FW (the only 2 options). I am also unable to connect either of the 500GB hard drives through FW but they will work through USB.
Has anyone experiences this? Someone had mentioned Disk Utility to me. How do I give that a go?
    Thanks all!

You need to reset the Firewire Bus I suspect, if I recall correctly you need to remove the battery and power supply for at least 10 minutes (with all peripherals disconnected too of course) then reconnect everything and power it up.

  • AEBS won't assign IP via Wired ports, but it does assign IP Wirelessly

I'm having the strangest problem, my AEBS will assign an IP address in the 192.168.1.X range when connected to it wirelessly, but when I connect to it via one of the wired ethernet ports in the back I get a bad IP (169.XXX.XXX.XX).
This started happening over the weekend and I have tried reseting the unit and still can't get the AEBS to assign the correct IP over Wired ports, not even to a Airport Extreme connected via wired ethernet on another room (all I get is the amber flashing light on the AX).
    Any help would be appreciated.
Black MacBook, Intel iMac & Mini Dual Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Duane,
Yes I did configure my AEBS to give IP's in the range of 192.168.1.XXX. But when I connect my MacBook via Airport I get the correct 192.168.1.XXX IP, but if I connect it via Wired Ethernet i get the other 169.XXX.XXX.XXX address. This also happens with my Airport Express that it also gets an IP in the 169.XXX.XXX.XXX range which is consistent when a device doesn't issue a correct IP address.
    Any help is much appreciated

Hope I can resolve this problem ASAP, thanks!

Your AD is in the Staff Vlan so maybe the WLC uses the Staff interface instead of management to contact the AD. I don't know how you sniffed exactly.
The comment about eap methods you saw is when you use LDAP with dot1x security. It is the same as saying "You cannot do peap-mschapv2 or eap-fast-mschpv2 with LDAP".
But you can do LDAP for web authentication, that has no eap methods.
Your original problem was a binding problem from the WLC, so we can expect that the WLC really is sending traffic towards AD.

  • Wired Internet Access - Ethernet "Not Connected"

    Hi,
I have a 15" MacBook Pro that is less than 6 months old that has suddenly developed a problem with the wired ethernet access. When I plug a cable into the laptop, it still says "Not Connected" for the ethernet adapter in Network preferences pane. I can assure you 100% that the networking equipment and cables work fine as I am using the cord right now with another computer to send this message.
Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this would be great.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I had the same thing happen with a Bondi Blue, and finally concluded that the port itself had failed. Since your computer is less than 6 months old, the best course of action would be to take it in to an Apple Store or AASP to have it looked at. The repair should be covered by your warranty.
    Good luck!

  • Wired port cannot establish TCP connections

I have come across an error that I have so far been unable to solve via google/searching forums.
From time to time, the wired port loses the capability to establish TCP connections. I can ping fine, I can resolve names fine indicating that at least UDP 53 is working. It's impossible to complete a three way handshake for any TCP connection, be it SSH, HTTP, FTP or anything else. This happens randomly after a network connection has been working fine for days. The Internet Connection Wizard claims everything is peachy as it probably just performs a ping to some site.
A reboot does not fix the problem - what does fix it is unplugging the cable, changing to wireless and associating with a network, opening a connection, then shutting down AirPort again and plugging the cable back in. Just replugging without establishing a TCP connection via AirPort does not work.
Is there anything I am missing here? Should I be contacting an Apple Store to talk about repairs/replacements?
Thanks for your time and consideration, if there's any other information needed to make light of the problem, I will post it as soon as I see the request. Unfortunately, I cannot produce the problem at will and have so far neglected running a traffic sniffer to look at exactly what is happening on a packet level - tho "telnet server 80" times out when "ping server" works fine.

Well, I have gotten the FMS on Windows to work via my basic client app (via localhost in the NetConnection call). Taking the same SWF and specifying the external IP of the Windows machine doesnt work.
So I am kind of back to square one.
I made sure that the default Adaptor is bound to any IP (using ":1935,80" in the default Adaptor.xml HostPort tag). So FMS should be bound to all network interfaces.
Just to clarify: FMS is running in "development" mode. Does that mode prevent external connections?

  • Devices not connecting through Airport extreme wired connection

    Hi
I just got an Airport extreme to use as an extention of my existing network, and to plug some devices in so that they can connect to the internet for updates (Sony Blu-ray player, dish network receiver, slingbox)...
my wireless is from a linksys/cisco wireless router (4-port) wrt310n, that is connected to my cable modem. The airport is set and has the green light showing. The blu-ray player and dishnetwork receiver are plugged into two of the ports. The blu-ray player says it can't connect to the internet. The dish network receiver says it is connected, giving ip address/submask, etc.
If I take my macbook pro and turn off wireless and plug into the airport it will not connect to the internet.
What have I not done to allow wired connection to the airport extreme to connect to the net?
    thanks
    David

Thanks for the clarification of your setup.
Unfortunately, the bottom line here is that this is not going to work.
The ethernet ports on the Extreme will only be active if you configure the AirPort Extreme to "extend a wireless network". But, it can only "extend" a wireless network from another Apple router. It's not compatible for this purpose with your Cisco router or any other manufacturer's router.
If you are unable to connect the AirPort Extreme to your router using an ethernet cable, you might want to take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by using the wiring in your home to transmit the ethernet signal.
I should clarify that if you connect the Cisco and AirPort Extreme using ethernet, you would not use the "extend" setting on the AirPort Extreme. This is only used if the device is connecting to another Apple router.

  • Connecting a BEFSX41 to a WRT610N to provide extra wired ports

I just upgraded my home network to use a WRT610N as the primary router/switch (just behind the DSL modem).  I've got more than 4 wired devices that I'd like to connect to the network.  Can I use my old BEFSX41 as just a simple Switch (or router/switch) to give me extra ports (even though they're slower 10/100 ports rather than 10/100/1000 ports like the 610 has)?  How do I wire them together?  How do I reconfigure the 41 to behave nicely in the new network config?  (that is, any machine (including wireless) can connect to any other machine in the overall network, and possibly even machines outside the network can come in and talk to machines on either router?)  What other device(s) can I use instead of the 41 to give me extra wired ports (especially if I need 10/100/1000 ports)?  Thanks very much.

The ideal solution for your setup would be to use a gigabit switch, such as the SD2008, or the EG008W.   A switch has no setup, just wire it to any LAN port on your WRT610N and it will work, allowing all computers on network to share files and/or printers.  Note that when you wire a switch to your router, you will "waste" one port on each device, therefore a 4 port router wired to an 8 port switch will give you 4+8-2 = 10 useful wired ports.
If you prefer, you can convert your BEFSX41 to a switch, and use it.   However, this will only add 2 wired ports to your network, because 4+4-2 = 6.
To convert your BEFSX41 to a switch, do the following:
    1)  Power down the BEFSX41 and disconnect it from your network and all other devices, then wait one minute.
    2)  Next reset the BEFSX41 to factory defaults.  To do this, power up the BEFSX41 and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes), then press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release the button and allow the BEFSX41 to reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).  Then power down the BEFSX41, and wait one minute.
    3)  Power up the BEFSX41, then (using a computer that is wired to a LAN port) login at 192.168.1.1 and make the following changes:
       a)  Set "Local IP address"  to  192.168.1.2  (this assumes that your WRT610N is using 192.168.1.1, and that you are not using the 192.168.1.2  address elsewhere in your network.)
       b)  Set the "DHCP server" to "disabled".
       c)  Click on the "Save Settings" button, then wait (3-60 seconds) for the screen to refresh.  You will likely be disconnected from the BEFSX41.  Do not worry about this.  Power down the BEFSX41 and your computer.
    4)  Next, wire the WRT610N and the BEFSX41 together, LAN port to LAN port.  Do not connect anything to the Internet port on the BEFSX41.
    5)  Power up your network.  It should work.

  • Xbox 360 will not connect to WRT54G Wired connection

OK I just bought a xbox 360 and the Linksys wrt54g router I updated the firmware on the router and have 2 pcs currently connected and working great i also have a wii connected wirelessly and it works great.
I connected the xbox 360 to the router and it doesnt even detect that its connected. Ive tested the cables tried 4 different ones and nothing i unhooked the router and just ran the xbox 360 to the cable modem and it worked fine so i know its not the xbox or the cables its the router thats giving me probs. i called linksys was on the line with them for 2 hours and they couldnt tell me nothing. Ive read that ppl have this router and there xboxs work fine
on microsofts site this router is listed as compatible. im lossing my patience and getting very mad about this.
no lights come on the router and the xboxs say the cable is not connected when running to the router but when connected direct to the cable modem works fine.
can someone please help or shed some light on this i would be greatful
    thank

I amp having the same problem. I tried what you had said about using the xbox settings but no luck. I found a link that told me to open these ports:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/mediacenter/firewall.mspx#EMG
It says Inbound and outbound, but I have no idea what that means.  I basically went to Port Range Forwading (I have the BEFSX41 wired router by the way.). It would only allow me to put in 10 .  Also there is no incoming and outgoing!!?? So if there was just 1 number for the port I put that number in both Start and end, and if it had 2 number I put the 1st one as start and the second one as end.
Can anyone help me. This is redamndiculous that a person has to go through this much trouble to hook up an xbox 360.
Also I have a SD216 switch. I don't know if that matters at all.
