Wired Time Capsule is loosing connection with my 1 gigabit connected MacPro

I have MacPro connected with my Time Capsule 1TB disk.
MacPro is connected with Cat 6 50 feet cable so a 1 gigabit wired connection.
before i had a Netgear GS 608v2 Switch in between. But I removed that to see if that would solve my issue.
But the issue has now happened 6 times now:
I start to backup and after a while the Time Capsule hard disk disconnects (the internet keeps on working fine) because i have an an audio streaming playing at the same time.
I have MacOS 10.5.2 and everything is updated to latest versions . My Macmini G4 has been copied fine so far. But my MacPro keeps on failing.
In my system.log I get following errors:

Sorry but this doesn't help, because this article is talking about streaming to Airport Airtunes, but my problem is that Time Machine stops backing up after a while because the Time Capsule isn't connected anymore. Because the Time Capsule is disconnected:

Absolutely sure.. There is no connection at all.. reset is only the router side of the TC.
For the hard disk to be erased you need to access the airport utility disk page.. request erase and confirm the operation.
    2) I can access to time capsule by ethernet but I am not able to input the corret setting by myself
    Thank you again
I am uncertain why if you have access you cannot change settings.. but that is why you reset things so any of those problems should be fixed.
Here is the Apple info on reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
And here is the quote from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Factory default reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility.

  • Can I connect old Time Capsule to new iMac with Ethernet?

I recently purchased a new iMac, and I am trying to use a 2008 Time Capsule for back-up.  I successfully used the Time Capsule for back-up with a MacBook for the last four years, but the iMac's Time Machine won't recognize the Time Capsule as a back-up device.  I have the two devices directly connected with an Ethernet cable, and no longer use the Time Capsule for MacBook back-up.  I have rebooted the iMac and Time Capsule multiple times, but the Time Capsule light still flashes amber.  Help?

Press and hold the reset for 10sec.
Make sure the ethernet is set to auto and does actually get an IP address from the TC.
Turn off all other network connections.
Download and install 5.6 airport utility if you are still on Lion.. it will give you far more useful info and actual tools not toys like the Lion version.

Can't connect my new iPhone 4 with internet via Time Capsule. IP4 recognized TC but will not connect with it. (Password etc. is ok)

    Do the usual wireless things.
Change the wireless name to simple name with only alphanumerics and no spaces.
Set to manual and use channels 1, 6, 11 in turn.
For testing take off the security altogether.
The iphone only works on 2.4ghz so only that band is relevant.

  • Time Capsule firmware upgrade interfering with VPN connection?

I regularly connect to our corporate VPN with my (corporate, non-Apple) laptop through wi-fi through our Time Capsule.  I think that the recent firmware upgrade to the Time Capsule has made it impossible for me to connect to the VPN.  My IT department suggests that the upgrade may have tightened a security setting that is preventing the VPN connection.  Is this something others have experienced?  Is there anything to do about it?  (At the moment, I am connecting to the VPN through my iPhone as a hotspot, but I'll use up my data allowance if I keep doing that.)

Yes, it is common.. Apple only bother to check their software requirements.. not everybody elses.
VPN in particular seems to suffer from being killed off on about every second firmware revision. Woopss forget about that..
Is there anything to do about it?
Absolutely.. take your TC back to the last firmware that worked.. a Gen1 I would strongly recommend 7.5.2 but 7.6.1 is not bad.. avoid the rest.
Downgrade firmware is easy in v6 utiity.
Click on the version number with the option key held down.. lo and behold.. all the old versions will appear .. pick a goodun and it will proceed to downgrade that is an upgrade in functionality.. at least as far as your VPN is concerned.. very little else is going to be affected.
V6 utility does allow you to turn off checking for updates .. I just found it.
On the top menu area open preferences for airport utility..
Uncheck the first two items.. check for updates and check for updates weekly.
Do not even dream that this will stop it complaining about updates.. because it will still manage to complain.. but less often.. and you MUST ignore it.. for your own good.
Are you sure your port forwarding is still functional and is the laptop or whatever you are using getting the right IP. If IP changes the VPN will no longer work.. but I think port forwarding has become more problematic as v6 utility has made it harder.
Sometimes as part of this process you should also factory reset.. old firmware or new firmware and redo the port forwards again.
It is also much easier to simply use a router that understands vpn.

  • My Time Capsule does not work with existing WiFi

Following a question solved on March 24 by LaPastenague, but gone bad again.
    Apple AirPort Time Capsule
I felt the need for a physical backup of my data, as I would not completely trust the different clouds. I use, and have used Dropbox for 4-5 years and are very satisfied with that, but I am still not sure if or when a political lunatic will shut off the internet.
I purchased the Apple AP Time Capsule 2T, because all my other stuff are Apple, and that it's wireless. My old backup is Maxtor 300 GB.
Since we stay 2-3 weeks on two locations, one in Norway and one in Sweden (two different countries) we must use Mobile Broadband 4G, cables or fibre connections are useless for us, and we don't have it up to the houses. I have one mini router for each country, we bring with us iPhones, iPads, iMac, Apple TV, APExpress. When we pass the boarder I change the mini router, and the system continues working perfect on the WiFi, except the APExpress that needs to be reconfigured,  but then it works.
The APTC was difficult to make working as it would not accept to be in an existing network, but with good help from the Apple Community, LaPastenague, with forcing the TC connect to the APE with Ethernet cable in bridge mode, ref "My Time Capsule does not work with existing WiFi" from March 24, the problem was solved and all gadgets worked together in a perfect harmony, until we changed location.
Now, as I have my second WiFi network, and the APExspress is reconfigured, it's like the TC thinks, I am the base boss here, I am not taking orders from APE one more time, and it simply does not work, not only that, it fluctuates all the time.
I have a slight feeling that the two WiFi bands are making the trouble as during the configuration of the TC sometime the last figure 6 and 7 pops up, and that has something two do with the two different 2,4 and 5 GHZ bands
So, I am curious if you have any idea ?
I am thinking of returning the TC if I don't make it work now, but how do I delete all the data that's on it?

I can deal with the last question first and easily.
I am thinking of returning the TC if I don't make it work now, but how do I delete all the data that's on it?
Open the airport utility .. go to the disk tab and select erase.
When you select erase you will get mulitiple options.
Quick removes the file table but does not delete the files,, it takes 2min or less.
A Zero out data is the secure way,, by writing 0 ie low level drive format.
    It can take several hours..
7 pass will take a week.. not recommended..
35 pass erase is ridiculous.. it would take a month.. put an ax through the TC. It is quick and better.
Now, as I have my second WiFi network, and the APExspress is reconfigured, it's like the TC thinks, I am the base boss here, I am not taking orders from APE one more time, and it simply does not work, not only that, it fluctuates all the time.
The fact that it did work and has now failed might point to faulty unit.
The only way to tell is reset it properly to factory and start over.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Generally having multiple wireless AP should not cause problems.. but it is better to set channels manually.. so it doesn't go beserk rotating channels.
Remember to keep all names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Sadly though the Apple routers have no logging now and no SNMP and almost nothing to help diagnose a problem, so if it continues .. take it back to apple.. they have given you no other method of fixing it.

  • Can I access my Time Capsule via web, even if it´s not connected to a mac??

Can I access my Time Capsule via web, even if it´s not connected to a mac??

Yes, but the issue is the IP address. If you have a static IP from your ISP it is easy.. Or if you use another router with dyndns it is easy.. but Apple make it exclusive to their network so you can have loads of issues without a computer to function as a client for dns.
Look up remote Time Capsule access .. there is plenty of info out there.

  • Time Capsule doesn't work with proxy?

Hello! I have a Time Capsule working with an ethernet connection which is controled by a proxy server. I don't see the option to configure TC in order to download the .pac file, or to configure manually the proxy settings.
Therefore, the internet through TC doesn't work!
    Anyone knows a solution?
    Thanks

The blurb about Time Capsule not being compatible with some ISPs is no different from the same blurb that Apple has attached to the specs of all previous Airport base station products. So... if your ISP currently works with an older model Base Station, it will work with Time Capsule. ISPs that typically don't work are ones that use uncommon DSL communications or authentication protocols - often found in parts of Europe and the Middle East.
(Speculation on my part) Time Capsule will not function as a wireless client on an existing wireless network. Therefore, users of an existing wireless network will need to either (a) replace their existing wireless router with Time Capsule or (b) cable Time Capsule to their existing wireless router and disable the router built into Time Capsule. These are exactly the same options faced by previous purchasers of Apple's Airport base stations.

  • 2nd Time Capsule - What to do with it?

    Hi All,
I have 2 Time Capsules, both 2TB. One new design, one old.
For backup I only need one of them, so I wonder what to do with the second one. Setup as a Network drive?
In addition I have an MBP Mid 09, ATV3 and Iphone, if this produces any additional ideas.
I might just sell one of them, but maybe there is a usage I haven´t thought of yet, so please share your ideas.
    Thanks
    V

    Off hand.....a few options
Use the second Time Capsule to extend a wireless network wirelessly, providing more wireless signal coverage to a remote area. The Time Capsule could still be used for backups or storage if you want in this type of setup.
Connect the second Time Capsule to the first using a spare Ethernet cable and set up dual Time Machine backups. Time Machine will alternate back ups between the two Time Capsules automatically. So, you will have two sets of Time Machine backups in case one drive fails.
You could also use wireless for Time Machine backups as in the first example. Your remote Time Capsule is hidden.....unfortunately a robbery occurs and your main Time Capsule is stolen along with other equipment. You still have your backups on the remote Time Capsule that you can use to restore your data.
Some of us who are concerned about the possibility of losing our data also keep a separate backup offsite. You never know. Fires and floods do occur.
Or, if you have no worries about loss of data on the first Time Capsule, use the second Time Capsule as an extra storage drive for data that you want to share to other users over the network.
If none of these ideas sound useful, and you are sure that you might not ever need a second backup....in case the first TC fails......and you really don't need the second Time Capsule, I would be happy to take if off your hands at no charge.

  • Time capsule wireless so slow with one Macbook but not other

We have a Time capsule network set up to run at 5 GHz, and (out of necessity because of the problems) an older wireless g access point running in parallel.
One macbook running Leopard gets good speed when connected to the 5Ghz network, as does the Apple TV, which can also stream almost flawlessly by airtunes to an airport express connected to a hifi.
However, if I try to connect to another macbook (still running Tiger) to the time capsule network (even with the other components switched off) then the connection is frequently really slow, such that the web becomes unusable and it is impossible to reliably stream to the express or ATV. However, if I switch to our old g rated wireless access point connected to the same router as the Time capsule then I get a much higher speed connection, although airtunes still intermittently drops sound, but I can stream an HD movie to ATV with no problem.
Why is one Macbook fine but the other is so slow on the 5Ghz network?

Glad to see the overwhelming response to my post : )
Anyway, I have upgraded the OS to Snow Leopard and the 5Ghz network seems to have speeded up considerably on this macbook. Perhaps it was a problem with Tiger.

  • Can i use my time capsule to extend my wifi signal without physically connecting it to my router?

I currently have a BT Homehub connected to a modem, which is connected to the ethernet port in my wall (which is downstairs). I bought a timecapsule to wirelessly back up my computer. It is connected via ethernet cable to my router. I have recently been having trouble getting a wifi signal in one room in my house (upstairs). To fix this i was wondering whether it is possible to move my time machine somewhere upstairs, to a location closer to this room, and have it transmit a wifi signal without it being connected to my router via ethernet. And if so how would i go about doing this?
    cheers
    jadidev

Can i use my time capsule to extend my wifi signal without physically connecting it to my router?
Yes, if you have an Apple router.
No, if you have a BT router.
IF....your Time Capsule is currently set up to provide a wireless network signal, you could add another Apple device...like an AirPort Express....to extend the Time Capsule wireless signal.

  • SHARE TIME CAPSULE AS THROUGH INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB

SHARE TIME CAPSULE AS THROUGH INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB

Most ISP correctly block SMB over internet. It is too insecure .. use VPN to a different router and place the TC behind it.
Besides TC does not expose SMB to WAN.. same reason. You have to port forward SMB.
You can use SMB on some strange port.. there are instructions if you want you networked just use them.

If it's nonsense to tell me, don't tell me anything else.
In Apple Store Time Capsule version 4 has a 3GB hard drive. And for an electronics technician like me, this is not a problem to do this work.

  • Having intermittent Airport connectivity with a 2010 6 core MacPro.  Any help?

Having intermittent Airport connectivity with a 2010 6 core MacPro. When it works has low bars on status graph.  Laptop set up next to it has no connect problems. Airport utility has shown no Airports a couple times when the laptop showed all. When first joined network, staus bar is full, then drops to one or two bars. Would this be an antenna or card being loose? Is it user friendly fix, or bring it to Apple? Thanks in advance.

Would this be an antenna or card being loose?
    Sounds like it.
Is it user friendly fix, or bring it to Apple?
If under AppleCare, bring it to Apple. If not, you can probably find instructions to fix a loose antenna connector yourself.

Hello, I have a sql 2005 server, and I am a developer, with the database on my own machine.  It alwayws works for me but after some minutes the other developer cant work in the application
    He got this error
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
and When I see the log event after that error, it comes with another error.
SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.140]
He has IIS5 and me too.
I created a user on the domain called ASPSYS with password, then in the IIS on anonymous authentication I put that user with that password, and it works, on both machines.
and in the connection string I have.
    <add key="sqlconn" value="Data Source=ESTACION15;Initial Catalog=GescomDefinitiva;Integrated Security=SSPI; Trusted_Connection=true"/>
I go to the profiler, and I see that when he browses a page, the database is accesed with user ASPSYS, but when I browse a page, the database is accesed with user SE\levalencia.
    Thats strange.
The only way that the other developer can work again on the project is to restart the whole machine. He has windows xp profession, I have windows 2000.
If you want me to send logs please tellme

Well here's my problem, maybe you can help. Intermittenly I get a login failed when connecting to a db engine through Server Management Studio using Windows authentication. When this happens the following entries are generated on the server's application event log:

    Description:

I've already ensured that the server is set to mixed authentication mode. Oddly enough, the workaround that I've found is that if I remote desktop into the server, log in and then log back out, Management Studio is suddenly able to connect again. No idea why it works.
As I said before, it is intermitten. Some days it errors on login, other days it doesn't and there are no configuration changes between them. Also, both client and server are in the same domain and same site so there is no VPN or anything in between. I'm really quite stumped. Any help would be great, or if you can point me in the right direction of where to look. Thank you in advance!
