Wireless Adapter Card Help.

I recently moved back to my parents house after living away at university for a year, since then they have changed the ISP from AOL Broadband to BT Infinity and I found my wireless card doesn't seem to be compatible. Whenever I turn my PC on I don't know if I'll be able to get an internet connection and if I do it'll only last about an hour, at which point it disconnects and won't reconnect until I restart my computer.
I need some help to see if anyone knows why it's doing this and if it is a problem with the card can anyone suggest a good wireless card.
I need a card compatible with my PC Specs, BT infinity and good enough for online gaming e.g. World of Warcraft, League of Legends etc.
PC Specs:
Motherboard: ASRock K10N78FullHD-hSLI
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor 3.00 Ghz
Graphics Card: GeForce 9400 GT
RAM: 4GB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
I have tried two wireless cards both were TP Links, though I can't remember the model, and neither have worked with my internet.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
As you have already tried two cards and neither work buying a third without confirming that it is your WiFi card causing the problem may be a waste of time and money. If possible i would try to use one of the cards you are having issues with in another computer and confirm you get the same issue. Ideally try this with the PC in the same place as the problem one and also try it in the same room as your home hub. If you card works on the other machine then some more investigaion would be needed to find out what is causing the problem on your PC.
If you just want to buy something new then i have found this pair to work well together, the connection is very stable, the Antenna is optional, but has helped me get even more range out of the card.
TP-Link TL-WN951N Advance Wireless N PCI Adapter
TP-Link TL-ANT2405C 2.4Ghz 5dbi Indoor Omni-Directional Antenna
I bought the pair of these off Amazon for just under £30, so not the cheapest but they have worked well for me.
A brief look at your motherboard spec suggests it has the required PCI slot, but i'll leave that to you to double check

  • T60 - No Wireless Adapter Installed - Help!

    Hi.
I've got a T60 running XP. I can't connect to a wireless network, because the computer claims a wireless adapter can't be found.  I tried downloading and installing a new driver for my network card, but that did not help. (The downloaded file was 6hcx05ww).
Please advise on how I can resolve this problem.
    Thanks.

    1. Hi have you tried to Rollback the drivers that were installed over the old ones, as this would solve the issue if you can see the hardware you have an issue with in the Device Manager.
    2. Reboot and do a "Last Known Good Config"
    3. Or do a system restore, if you have a point before you installed the new drivers this would fix the issue for you.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
    All the best.

  • Satellite Pro A200-16YT - Wireless adapter card upgrade to 802.11n

Satellite Pro is A200-16YT (PSAE1E) with Windows XP Professional SP3.
I have been trying to increase my existing 54 Mb/s wireless network speed by replacing the existing Atheros AR5007-EG 802.11a/b/g with the faster 802.11n adapter.
The Atheros driver is v9.2.0.439 (04/08/2011) which I believe is the latest. I have tried to install an Azurewave AR5BXB72 (Atheros AR5008) as a replacement, but with no success. As well as trying the standard Windows Wireless set-up, I have used the Atheros Client Utility (ACU) which confirms that the card and driver are installed and enabled, but the radio does not switch on, so no there is no association/connection with any wireless network!
Reinstalling the original AR5007 works without any problems. If anyone has experienced similar problems and/or can offer a solution, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Thank you MasterG.
I followed the link you posted and you were correct in suggesting that a WLAN card pin assignment was an issue.
On older cards, (before Revision 1.2 of the PCI Express Mini Card Electromechanical Specification), *Pin 20* was +'reserved for future wireless disable signal (if needed)'+, so presumably on my Toshiba Satellite A200, disabling the old AR2007 card was handled by the system software and the Wireless ON/OFF switch.
On the newer adapter cards, Pin 20 is assigned to a *W_DISABLE#* signal which, when low, will disable the radio.
As suggested by other posts, masking Pin 20 on the AR5008 card has prevented the radio from being disabled, and the only small problem with this is the radio can no longer be switched off with the Wireless ON/OFF switch (or with Function+F8).
However, the wireless speed is now 144.4Mbps, enabling BT Infinity broadband download speeds in excess of 30Mbps.
Your assistance is very much appreciated.

  • Wrt54g and internal wireless adapter - please help

Okay, I'm new to this home networking so my lingo is non existence. I have a wrt54g wireless router.  Can I use this router with my labtop internal wireless adapter.  I assumed I could use this router w/out a modem or ISP, based on what the sales rep told me when I bought the router.  Patient and expertise would be greatly appreciated. Please help!!!!

When you sign up with your ISP, they will likely provide you with (or sell you) a modem.  Be sure you get a modem with an "ethernet port" (sometimes called a 10/100 port) on it.  If the modem only has a USB port, you will not be able to connect to it with that router.
Sometimes the ISP will give you the choice of a modem, a router-modem, or a wireless router-modem.  Since you already have a wireless router, all you need is a modem.

  • No wireless adapter after clean install

I have an X61 and did a clean install of Windows Vista Ultimate and now my internal wireless adapter card is not showing in my device manager.  It worked before the install, so I know the hardware is there.  What do I do?

Inside your device manager, do you have Yellow Question Marks next to other devices or any issues with your chipset drivers.
The WiFi adapter drivers are useless if the chipset that supports the socket, that supports the WiFi card are malfunctioning or missing.
Hopefully, you aren't being encumbered by user mode privileges and you've thoroughly executed the system in manager / Admin mode and experienced the same issues.
Don't just sit there, take a second and use the Kudo's button to compliment the people who help you.

  • Unable to find a wireless adapter to work with OS X v 10.2.8

Does anyone know of a wireless adapter card manufacturer that will work with OS X v 10.2.8. I know I purchased one a few years ago that would work, but I can't remember the manufacter's name or the model number of the card.PCMCIA cardbuss.

    Albert,
If you wish to run a third-party 802.11g 54Mbps wireless card, 10.2.8 will support it, but I believe you also have to install AirPort 3.1.1 available here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=70176
The above software supports a wireless card that uses the Broadcom chipset, but no other. Here is a list of older, supported cards:
    http://bcm-specs.sipsolutions.net/Chipsets
Almost all of the newer cards that use the Broadcom require 10.3.x or newer; I believe it has to do with firmware changes on the card.
There are also companies that supply both a card and software for a complete package. Here is a company that has a new, compatible card with Airport software:
    http://macsense.com/product/networking/wpe800.html
There are also the slower 802.11b 11Mbps cards that will work, but they require a third-party driver. Here is one software package with a list of supported (b) cards:
    http://macsense.com/product/networking/aerouni.html
There is also a freeware driver for supported (b) cards:

Has anyone linked their xbox 360 wireless adapter to an Airport Extreme? I need help! Neither Apple nor Microsoft knew how to link the two devices. If anyone has successfully been able to make this work, your help will be much appreciated. Thanks guys

Yes - Mine works no problem. I have found that I have to unplug the Xbox360 wireless adaptor and plug it back in occasionally (if the green light is on everything is fine). Are you using the correct WPA Key?

  • Can I use a USB wireless adapter with my iMac G4 Flat Panel (it has no Airport card).

I have just salvaged an iMac G4 15-inch Flat Panel from the skip and now have it running Mac OS X Tiger 10,4. It has a 700mhz cpu, 80Gb hard drive and 512mb of Ram. No airport card is fitted so I was wondering if a USB wireless adapter could be used instead. I have a Belkin F5D8055ea USB wireless adapter fitted and the system recognises the device, this is as far as I have got as I am a complete novice on Apple/Mac machines. Anyone any ideas please?

If the device is recognised, see if you can located your wi-fi network using Airport Utility.

  • Help: XP driver for 3000 G410 wireless adapter

    Hi All,
My recently bought g410 came with Vistra (only) drivers CD, while I'm installing winXP instead. I downloaded drivers from Lenovo website and everything worked except the winXP driver for "wireless network adapter" (all 3 of them: Gemtek, 3xxx, & 4xxx), the adapter was simply not recognized.
When I look at g410 spec, it says something like "Wireless Network Type: InviLink 802.11BG", does it mean that it is another type of wireless network driver those available on Lenovo's site? If so, where can I get this driver? Can someone help, please?
    Thanks,

    Dear Silens,
Have tried to install the vista driver for Gemtek, and YES, the wireless thing is working now! Thanks for the feedback.
I notice that in the device manager, the device reads something like"Broadcom 802.11g" while from the specification, the wireless adapter should be 802.11bg (the letter "b" is missing from the description). I don't notice any performance issue though, however, would like to know if you have the same description as well?
    Dear Rex,
I don't know how to start the system update software, do i need to download from any website?

  • PCI Card Slot - Wireless LAN Card Problems - Help!

    Help.
I'm having problems getting my board to recognize both:
Linksys WMP11 Wireless LAN card; and
    Netgear WG311T Wireless LAN card
(returned the Linksys card, but the Netgear card had the same problem).
Neither card is being picked up by Windows (XP Home), although both the "power" and "link" LED lights up when inserted.  I've tried every PCI slot, same issue.  Nothing shows up in the device manager, and no new hardware is detected.  The Netgear software tells me that the card has not been installed.
Am left thinking I need to RMA the board.  Any suggestions woudl be much appreciated.

My roommate has a similar setup as you and I am having the same problem getting a pci wifi card to work in the machine.  I have tried both a Linksys WMP54G and a Netgear WG311. Both cards will scan for networks bit will never connect my router (Linksys WRT54G). Just to get them to recognise the network, I have to turn off WEP, and turn on ESSID broadcast.  Both of these cards work prefect in other computers. I know it not a signal problem because I can take my laptop and set it in the same location and it gets excellent signal.
I have tried changing slots in the machine, the wifi cards were the only PCI cards in the machine and an GeForce 6800 GT in the AGP slot. I have no idea what the problem could be. But I'm leaning towards the mobo at this point.

  • Help on a wireless adapter

I have pci wireless adapter. Does anyone know if the Airlink AWLH5026 works in the dual 1.25ghz MDD powermac? Or do I need to find something else.?

The Airlink driver for that adapter seems to be Windows only. However, a quick Internet search appears to indicate that a Ralink chipset might be used. If this is true, you could possibly have some luck with a Mac driver from the Ralink site. Otherwise, another PCI card (with support for Macintosh computers) may have to be tested. Alternatively, a wireless Ethernet bridge (also known as a gaming adapter) could be connected to the Ethernet port (wireless Ethernet bridge devices do not, normally, require special drivers).

  • Please Help - CISCO VPN client disconnecting over wireless adapter

    Hi,
I connect to my work network when at home using the CISCO VPN client. I have a wireless connection at home. My vpn conection had no problem until my laptop once dropped hitting the wireless card reader side on the floor. since then, my vpn disconnects after some time. And this also disconnects my wireless connection at home. When I am not connected to work through th eVPN, we have no problems with my wireless connection. But, when I need to work from home, my vpn keeps getting disconnected and throws me off my wireless conenction too everytime. Can someone please tell me how to check if anything is wrong with the laptop?

Ok lets see if we can clear somethings up.
Using wireless and VPN before the "Drop" was ok?
Using Wireless and no VPN after the "Drop" is fine?
Using Wireless and VPN after the "Drop" causes the wireless adapter to disconnect?
If this is correct probally the best thing to do is to remove the cisco VPN software and reinstall it.
It can't be anything to do with the "Drop" as using normal wireless is working fine you say.
and the Cisco VPN Adapter is Virtual.
Let me know how you get on.

  • HELP ! WiFi Adapter Card for Thinkpad T42 ?

    Hi everyone,
I am new to this site, and new to laptops. I just bought a used IBM LENOVO T42 1,7GHZ 512MB 30 GB HD with XP PRO. I am confussed about the WiFi issue, as it seems like two cards are required (internal / external) to get wireless. I have been searching the internet trying to find out what external and/or internal card I need to buy, but have become frustrated because I don't understand the lingo.
I bought my computer off eBay with this description:
IT ALSO COMES WITH WIRELESS CAPABILITY  TO CONNECT TO ANY WIFI NETWORK OR HOTSPOT AND CONNECT TO THE INTERNET  BY ADDING AN ADAPTER CARD.
And the specs say this, Expansion slots: one Type III PC Card slot
Can someone please shed some light on this for me, and tell me what to buy ?
    Thx, Scott

    Scott,
it's your choice if you want to install an internal or external card:
    1. Internal card: This is located inside the covers so to install it you have to open up the Thinkpad. Here is the T40/41/42 Hardware Maintenance Manual that shows you how to install what is there called the Mini PCI adapter. Most T42s shipped with this card factory installed but probably your model didn't. As you can see from the manual there were several cards that the T42 could have shipped with, my T42 came with the Intel 2200BG card. The big advantage with this approach is you can use an internal antenna in the cover but you might have to install that too if your model shipped from factory without wireless. The FRU (spare part) number for the antenna assemblies (different for 14" and 15" display models) is also shown in the hardware manual and they can be ordered online from IBM/Lenovo and typically ship overnight. (I would wait and order the antenna assembly until you have opened the Thinkpad, it might be there also for models that shipped from factory without wireless card.)
    2. External card: This you put in one of the PC card slots on the left side of the laptop. The disadvantage is it will stick out of the laptop and carries a small external antenna so you will always have to take it out whenever you pack up your laptop. The antenna might not have quite as good reception as the internal antennna.

  • GT70 - Need Help with "downgrade" adapter card!

I've got a GT70 with the "Super-Raid-0" configured dual 128GB SSD msata cards in the adapter, but one of them just gave out, after about 10 months. Now, what I'd like to do is to get that "adapter card" which are in the non-SSD version of the GT70 model and install a regular 2.5" HardDrive. My question is, WHERE can I get that card and WHAT is the EXACT name of that part? I've been searching all over but no use. :(

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM?
    Thanks!

For a tiny little adapter card I don't want to send in this gigantic and very heavy unit, because it would cost around a $100- with express delivery and insured. Once I did that and then it took about 6 weeks to get it back in worse condition than it was before! No thanks, I just want a simple adapter card that probably cost around $10-$15, which I can install in 60 seconds and/or a replacement for the SSD if possible, since it is well within the warranty period. If they honor it good, if not, I won't be surprised at all. Unfortunately I've had terrible experiences with this company in the past, but I don't want to get into that. That's not why I'm here.
Yes, you are right, the 2 msata Super-Raid are very fast and very enjoyable, however, as it is obvious by now, they have a very short life-span. I've never, ever had any of my laptops' HD to fail on me before, and I've had quite a few over the years, Acer, Toshiba, then a bunch of Sonys, so I'm still betting on the "good old" regular 7200 RPM disks that run for ever rather than this SSD thing that craps out on me in 10 months.
And if the Read/Write speed is slower, well, as long as they work, I don't care.
I already sent in a repair request and specifically asked for both the replacement of the broken SSD with serial number as it is indicated during the boot-up, as well as the adapter card for regular HD installation, so I'm hoping I'll get some response next week. But I only want to send in the failed mSata "chip", IF they are willing to replace it. That could fit into a protective envelope instead of a large box and would cost $1 to send! :D
I've already checked the prices of mSata chips, but they are pretty expensive. A 128GB SSD costs $120 and a regular 750GB 7200rpm HD about $80, so I would choose the regular, reliable and much larger HD over this SSD thing if I had to make a choice.
Meanwhile I'm still searching all accessory and parts sellers' websites for this particular adapter, but so far nothing! :(
