Wireless adaptor in HP Pavilion dv7-6110sl

I would like to change my adaptor with one that knows dual-band wireless (2,4 and 5 GHz) and bluetooth.
I was looking at this one: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-advanced-n-6230.html
Can you tell if it will fit in my notebook or not?
And is it any good, or you recommend other adaptor?
Carpe Diem!

You're very welcome.
No, it has to do with HP locking out untested, unvalidated cards from being installed as their way of meeting the FCC SAR compliance testing standards mandated by the U S government.
Folks have complained to the n'th degree about this, but to no avail.  HP's handlng of this will never change even though other notebook manufacturers have to meet the same requirements and don't lock unsupported cards out of the BIOS.
If you want further info regarding this matter, you can read this link below.
http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/kdb/GetAttachment.html?id=22884
Folks from other countries complain that this regulation has nothing to do with them but they seem to miss 2 points:
1. HP is a US corporation and has to follow US rules.  And again, this is how they choose to comply.
2. Their own countries may have similar regulations they don't know about.
Just make absolutely sure you read the service manual and get one of the cards with the HP part number on it, if you plan to install another supported card than the one you have.

  • Wireless module change in pavilion DV7 (amd), to give support for GHz fequency

    Hi
Can someone please tell me which wireless module would be best suited (compatible) to the pavilion dv7(amd) so that it might support the GHz "n" type signal.  Currently it has the broadcom 4313b/g/n, which although has n in the description, does not actually support GHz!  I have looked on the dv7 support manual and it lists Atheros AR9280 802.11a/b/g/n as a part used in the laptops, but I can currently locate a new one, only used from USA.  I would be most grateful if someone could tell me which would be the best replacement and from where to purchase it, if possible.
    Thanks

    Hi @h20roks ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 and  getting the BSOD and shutting down. I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Not rollback.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that could need updating.

  • Quicklaunge buttons on my HP Pavilion dv7-2260ed not working and always red

The quicklaungebuttons (Mute, Volume, cd options and wireless) on my HP Pavilion dv7-2260ed stopped working and are always red.  This happend 3 weeks ago. I runned the HP assistent but no errors were found. Any help is welcome

Hi, I have more or less exactly the same problem.
I own a pavilion dv7 1090eb, which originally had Vista 32bit on it, but I updated to Windows 7 32bit more than a year ago,
not long after 7 was released. Ever since that update (or a few days after, I don't really remember) I've been having problems with the quick launch buttons.
For over a year it was just my mute button that was always orange. I could still mute my sound, but when not muted, it sounded like it was really filtered, all the low and the high were gone, only low mid sounds remained.
My jack exits, both of them, however, still work fine, and I have good audio through external speakers, so I kind of solved that.
But still, the laptop itself has great sound, so I should be able to get that without having to carry around external speakers wherever I go.
Oh and I used to have the same problem with Vista from time to time, but after rebooting it would just go back to normal.
But now just today, I left my laptop on for about 2 hours for some image rendering while I was away, and I switched the wifi off, which I usually do when I leave my laptop unattended. But when I came back, it wouldn't turn back on again, and none of the quick launch buttons worked anymore.
I tried reinstalling all drivers after I did some troubleshooting options which didn't work.
Turned it off and on again a couple of times.
Then found this thread and installed the above link, rebooted, still doesn't work.
What now? What can I do to resolve this problem?
I really hope I can get a solution for this.

  • PAVILION DV7 QUAD WIRELESS CARD UPGRADE?

My dv7 quad came with the intel centrino wireless n 1030. I tried to update it to the intel n 6235 and it wont boot up and tells me this module is not compatible. i have a picture and will try to upload. 1. iam looking for a wireless card that is dual band and 300mbps. if anyone can help my find this that will work that would be great.

I clicked the link you provided regarding the Bios. I already have the version (F.29) installed. I do not want to use an external dongle as that essentially brings the functionality and convenience of using my laptop back 10 years. Sorta like adding an external floppy drives to computers in the old days, or the God forsaken Ipads nowadays.  Taking a step backwards to say the least. In regards to the Broadcomm 4322, which particular part number are you referring to? A quick search reveals this is old technology that rarely works with Windows 7 and is replete with problems. Most people only get it to work with Windows XP, and only marginal at best. A search within HP own forums brings up similar comments. It seems users of Pavilion DV7's and DV6's are locked out of new technology even though our computers are only a couple of years old. Not something I was aware of, or expected when I purchased two top end HP Laptops at the time. Thanks for your replies, but it seems I'm still in the same boat as everyone else with these products. Surely there has to be a way for HP to allow their customers to upgrade to new technology? I can't believe HP deliberately relegated a large swath of their products to planned obsolescence? As I said before, this is a specific widespread problem as described in Amazon product reviews, HP forums, a a multitude of other technical help sites. I'm a big spender when it comes to computers, as many people are. This doesn't help your cause. Regards...

    1. HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and HP Pavilion dv7-7073ca
    2. Operating System
    Windows 7 64-bit
    3. Error messsage: Blue Screen and Crash. Can't PRINT Wirelessly or Wired + Blue Screen Of Death when printing a document with Microsoft Office. It then restarted the entire computer.
It might have said something about BIOS
    4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred
No, all I did was install the software that came on the Officejet disc
I don't know what to do. I tried to create an adhoc network, and that didn't work. I tried to connect it via usb cable and the whole computer crashed. I tried to set up a router and then it would not connect to the internet.
Why is this design so flawed? Every wireless printer I have had does this and will not work easily or permanently. You should just be able to connect instantly to your computer and voila, you can print. But nothing seems to work. Mind you, the constant variable here is me, and I have little patience for spending days trying to get this to work. But I am a student, and this is holding back valuable study time.
    What do I do???
Any advice appreciated...can someone tell me step by step how to do this? I followed the instructions in the books, but ended up well...you know, so that's why I'm here.

I had the same issue, officejet pro 8600 plus causing blue screen of death on my new computer. After several frustrating months trying everything, I fould that my new computer has 3.1 USB ports, this printer doesnt like them, they need a 2.1 USB port.
For whatever reason USB ports are not backwards compatible, so I plugged the USB cable into the 2.1 port and no more crashes.
3.1 ports are blue, 2.1 ports are black ( the plastic inside)

    Hi @trevevs
Thank you for your query, I will do my best to help.
As you stated there is not any updated drivers for Windows 8.1 on the driver page for your notebook only for Windows 8.
This tells me that it is unsupported on your notebook as it has not been tested by HP.  This does not mean it will not work.

I grasp that all is working well except for the WiDi.  Have you done all your Windows updates?
Windows 8.1 has WiDi built into the Operating System.

  • Pavilion dv7-4060us Color Printing Problems...

I just bought a new Pavilion dv7-4060us Notebook and am having problems printing in color.  I have a Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS Printer that I'm trying to connect to through a wireless network connection.  I can find the printer on the network and install the "Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS" driver online just fine.  But, after all that, when I try to print, it will only print in Black and White.  For some reason it just will not print in color.  I've looked through all my "printer properties" and it doesn't even show color options!  It's like my computer just doesn't even recognize that the printer can print colors.  Like maybe that printer's driver is for some reason not recognizing it as that actual printer?!
I tried deleting the printer and the driver off my computer and installing it using the printer's original CD, but it says it's not compatible with Windows 7 OS.  But installing the driver via online and using the CD should basically be the same thing shouldn't it?  So that can't be the problem.  The "HP printer help website" doesn't really help at all because it's a Xerox printer and not an HP.  After reading through some forum posts I figured maybe it was a firewall problem, but wouldn't the firewall stop me from printing all together...not just prevent me from printing color?
Has anyone seen this happen before or heard of anything like this happening?  Right when I got the computer I kind of went through and deleted a few things I thought were Crapware, so the only thing I can think of right now is that maybe I accidentally deleted some kind of software program that lets me print color?!  Which doesn't really make any sense, so I don't think that's it.
Also, I know it's not a Windows 7 OS problem or my wireless connection because my brother's computer uses Windows 7 and connects through wireless as well, but his can print color just fine.  He set his computer up like a year ago so he can't remember how he set it all up or what he did, so he's kind of useless.
As of right now the only thing I can think of to do is try posting on this HP help forum and post on the Xerox Printer help forum and see if anyone has any advice for me.  If you have any ideas I'm up for trying anything because I pretty much NEED to be able to print from this computer!!  Any information can help out a lot so just let me know.  Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem with my dv7-4171us, my husband has the same printer and it print fine on my Xerox but mine only prints in black and white, its very frustrating.  I called HP and after 2 hours on the phone they couldnt fix it either.
I'm thinking of doing a full "f11" factory restore.  If anyone knows how to fix the color printing problem please let me know.

  • Problem with a Pavilion dv7 - Not Booting

    Hello,
I've a problem with a Pavilion dv7 wich is not booting.
When I turn on the PC the F12 key (Wireless) is fix and red and Capslock is blinking.
After search on the forum, I try several things, turn on PC without its battery, turn on without RAM module (2 module with no module, only on,...) but each time I obtain the same F12 red and Capslock Blinking continuously (1 per second).
If someone have any idea to help me I stay tuned.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Cyrille

    Hi Visruth,
I've clean the laptop with a compressed air bomb, so i don't think it's a overheating problem.
When I take out the hard drive I obtain the same symptoms, F12 LED Orange fix and Caplock LED flashes continuously (every 2 or 3 secondes). I did not find this combination (F12 Red + Caplock Continusly blinking) ?
For the record, this is the laptop of my stepmother and I am sure she did not make BIOS update ...
Anything else to help you to make the good diag ? A tools to boot with ? A hardware test to do ?

  • Bluetooth on HP Pavilion dv7-2173cl Entertainment Notebook PC

I can't seem to make this work with my Droid Razr Maxx or bluetooth wireless speaker even though there are icons in Devices and Printers dialog box with little yellow triangles on them.  Ever since I have owned this laptop, I have not been able to use bluetooth.   I have a 2009 HP Pavilion dv7-2173cl Entertainment Notebook PC that is running windows 7 all updated. Device manager shows that there is a bluetooth module to which I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times. I'm beginning to think that the module is defective.

It appears that the device is an HP branded bluetooth module.  However, the information I can locate says it is powered by a Broadcom driver.
Did this notebook originally come with Windows 8?
Try this driver and let me know if it has an effect on your issue.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook and Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WiFi Card

I've got a dv7tqe (Quad Edition HP Pavilion dv7), part #XW397AV, notebook computer.  On page 8 of the manual, it says that the
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wifi card is compatible with this laptop.  However, upon further research online from many sources, including suppliers, it appears that this wifi card is not compatible due to HP's whitelist in the BIOS.
I'd like to know from an HP representative whether this card is truly compatible (it's not listed on PartSurfer for this laptop).
I'd also like to know why HP feels the need for a whitelist for wifi cards.  Is it to force your customers to pay your exhorbitant markups for replacement parts?
I'd really like the answers to these questions.  If it's not compatible, then it shouldn't be listed in the manual.
I'm also posting this as a warning to potential future HP customers that these types of inconsistencies as well as gouging their customers for replacement parts is commonplace for HP products.

    Hi:
This is a consumer to consumer forum.
You will not receive any answers to your questions from anyone speaking on behalf of the company (HP).
It is more complicated than the wireless cards having to be listed in the service manual as supported.
    1. They must also have the HP part # on them, or they will not work.
    2. There are a few cards listed in the service manuals that have the wrong part numbers, and no one knows the right part number.
So, when you think you have the right part number, you sometimes get the wrong card which may or may not work.  It just so happens that the Intel 6230 is one of those cards which no one can seem to find the right part # for.
Therefore, changing a wireless card in any HP notebook--especially a consumer model like yours is nothing short of a nightmare.
    3. No one has an answer for the whitelist issue. If you want to believe that it is to force customers to pay exorbitant markups for replacement parts, that is certainly your prerogative.
If you don't want to pay HP's prices, do what I do and go on eBay and query your search by the HP part number and get a used but tested and working wireless card for pennies on the dollar.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-3069wm touch controls not working

Above the keyboard, next to the power button there was a lit up mute, volume control, and wireless control. At one point the wireless and mute button stayed amber until I did a hard reset. Now they are completely gone. The volume control and DVD controls are lit up white, but don't work. The Quick Launch icon is also gone.
The HP Quick Launch software has been update, but still nothing. I've installed the latest BIOS, but that didn't help either.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The laptop is out of warranty.

I have a diferent problem but its also with a  Pavilion dv7-3079wm. I bought it in february 9 of 2010 and today when i check the warranty i discovered that was allready finished.
When i have like an hour or hour and a half using the internet or word or just listen music, suddenly the laptop stop working and the image on the screen gets frozen. Anything works and i have to shut down by the power button.
It takes like 15 minutes to restart again.
But if i just started to use it and open a videogame (age of empires) or a program which needs more graphic memory (archicad 12)  the computer stop working at 5 minutes.
Does anyone have the same problem???  Someone told me that the video card its damaged on this models, it's that true???

  • HP Pavilion dv7-3170ez: volume indicator not showing when setting volume

    Hi
I own a Pavilion dv7-3170ez, and when I change volume using the volume touch-slider on top of the keyboard, volume is adjusted accordingly but no volume indicator appears on the screen.
Previously, while setting volume, a speaker icon with a slider popped out in the middle of the screen showing current volume level.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium and both Windows Update and HP update shows that I have latest version of software. Also, I've the latest version of the BIOS installed.
As a side note: the touch buttons on top (volume, speaker and wireless enable, etc.) stopped working a few days after the volume indicator disappeared, I fixed that by plugging off power and disconnectiong battery for a while. Still, the indicator is yet not showing. Not sure if this is related (I guess not).
    Thanks

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02642701.pdf
Supported wireless cards are listed in chapter 3 starting on page 24.
From the looks of it, you have a choice of the Atheros AR9280 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi Adapter, or the
    Broadcom 4322 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN adapter.
You must only get one of the cards listed in the service manual and they MUST have the HP part # on them, or they WILL NOT work in your notebook.
Make sure you choose a card with the part # listed for your locale.

It looks like a CPU issue. My laptop is brand new and works fine and I want to install Linux on it.
So any one can help on this?
    Thanks.

Oracle Linux, like all Linux for Enterprise systems, was developed for server hardware and will most likely have trouble to fully support laptops or desktop PC systems. Even if you get the system installed, you may run into trouble with proper support for laptop power management, touchpad, video and wireless support.
A good alternative to run Oracle Linux, or Enterprise Linux on a Laptop is Oracle Virtualbox. It allows you to install multiple common operating systems without the need to repartition your harddrive or jeopardize your primary operating system. Virtualbox is free. More info can be found here http://www.virtualbox.org. If you would like to use Linux as your primary OS or dual-boot, better consider a desktop Linux system like Fedora, Ubuntu or SUSE office desktop - you will be much happier with it. Please note that Oracle Express will easily install and support desktop Linux, but Oracle RDBMS does only support Enterprise Linux versions and will require special attention to get installed on Linux desktops.
In order to start OEL from your computer and work-around the issue you are experiencing, you might try to specify boot parameters, such as acpi=ht or acpi=off

My hp pavilion dv7-6c60us started having connection issues like 1 to 2 weeks ago.  I have been trying everything and nothing works.  I reloaded drivers, I restarted my modem, i did a restore point.  Nothing is working.  My laptop is the only thing having issues.  My phone doesn't disconnect.  Another laptop that is used in the house doesn't have any connection issues either.  It will work for a bit then disconnect.  I will either click on diagnose or disconnect and then click on connect again and then it will work for a bit again.  Then it will disconnect again.  My wirless is intel(R0 Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030.  Never had this issue before.  I was wondering if I should push the tiny hole on the back of the modem to see what that would do.  It is just a reset right.  The little green button.  I use a motorola surfboard sbg6580.  I just did the unplug reset for 30 seconds or so and then plug it in again.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  If my wifi card was messed up wouldn't it say something on my computer about it not working properly?
