Wireless and ethernet broken

When I upgraded to the new kernel (2.6.31), Neither of my NIC's (Wifi and Ethernet) worked. When I did ifconfig -a, it only showed lo. The Wifi card is an Intel 5100 (using the iwlagn module), and the Ethernet card is an Attansic Technology Corp. Device 1063 (so says lspci) using atl1c module. In dmesg, I found a line that said
iwlagn: HW not ready
After some searching, I found a temporary fixed by putting apci=off in my grub config on the kernel line, thus disabling all APCI. However, this is a laptop, and so no CPU scaling, suspend, or even proper shutdown. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,
similar problem here. There are differences in the hardware detection between the kernel versions. Maybe that's the problem. But I can't figure out a solution at the moment.

  • Wireless and Ethernet connection for U330 not working - Help

I need help with my wireless and ethernet connection for the U330 notebook. I can not connect to the internet since I received my U330 and if I try to connect to a wireless router, it knocks other users off. I called customer service already and they asked me to download the driver on the Lenovo Downloads and Drivers page. The page can not be found when you try to download the drive so I was not sure if there is another place I can download it since customer service mentioned that they will send me a disk which will take some time. Thanks in advance.

Your router may be knocking you due to lots of facts. Those Ensteins suggested drivers reinstall because that's the only thing they know.
Try changing your encryption mode, try adding your laptop's WiFi MAC-adress of whitelist of Route, try disabling firewall, try increase strength of signal.
Driver is located at consumersupport.lenovo.com - do not hesitate to check.

  • Wireless and ethernet simultaneously?

    hello,
my current network goes like this..........
    cable modem to airport express.
airport express to the g5, powerbook, printer, airtunes.
    everything works.
i just bought a sgi fuel that i would like to have a connection to.
    so i bought a smc switcher (8505t)....
now the cable modem goes into the switcher.
    g5 into the switcher.
    airport express into the switcher.
    sgi into the switcher.
in the network prefs, i then have to change from airport to ethernet. so i reset the modem (at comcast's direction) and choose ethernet. now the mac and sgi can talk. internet works, but not for the powerbook.
i guess my question is can airport express do both wireless and ethernet at the same time? or do i need something else?
    thanks

The ISP provides one IP address. Whichever device connected to the switch gets that IP address first will be allowed to connect to the internet. None of the other devices connected to the switch will be allowed to connect to the internet.
You need a router to use the single IP address provided by the IP address and then create multiple local IP addresses. The AX is a router but the single Ethernet port prevents it from sharing any local IP addresses with Ethernet clients. If the AX did allow that (as the original 802.11b graphite AirPort base station did) it would conflict with the ISP's DHCP server and draw the ire of the ISP.

  • Wireless and Ethernet Network Do Not Work Other Than SpeedTest

I have been having major problems with my Mac's Internet.  Whenever I connect to my Wireless or Ethernet Connection, the signal start out strong and dies down to almost nothing (around .4 kbps) immediatly.  I have been having this problem for a couple of weeks now.  However, when I run SpeedTest.net, I get the connection speeds which I should be getting.  My Network Application thingy (iStat Menus) shows a major increase from .4kbps to 6MBps when the speedtest in running.  Any ideas on how I can fix this problem?

It's a router all right. The next question is what is the "downstairs" device? Router or...?
The Aliant is configured through a browser interface and its IP address ought to be 192.168.2.1. Put those numbers in Safari's URL field and see if its webpage loads. If it does, you might be able to find a setting called "bridge mode".
Beware that I'm way out in the weeds with this suggestion - changing things in that unit may cause you even more problems. Since you said it is connected to a "wall Ethernet plug" I'm concluding that it should not be acting as a router, but that depends on what is upstream of that wall plug, and what functions the downstairs device is performing.
If the "wall Ethernet plug" is in fact a phone line and not an Ethernet LAN port then it is your router and you won't want to change that.

  • Advice to extend range from Time Capsule - wireless and ethernet with Airport Express and Airport Extreme

Current wireless network is Time Capsule (connected to a Cisco router, 1GB switch to servers and printer 1) to Airport Express (wireless) and to Airport Extreme (wireless). Distance means poor signal at the Extreme which has 2 printers (ethernet cables) and an iMac (wireless)
Solution is to connect the Extreme to the Time Capsule via Cat 6 ethernet cable
How do I configure the TC and the Extreme?
I will keep the Express for a wireless extension to the TC

Wired Ethernet from the TC to the AirPort Extreme will result in much better performance.  It sounds as if you are not configuring the AirPort Extreme correctly.
Please try the following steps carefully:
Unplug the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Exteme if it is not already unplugged. With the AirPort Extreme powered on, hold in the reset button on the Extreme for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart
Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the Extreme.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click on AirPort Extreme.
The example below displays an AirPort Express. You will see AirPort Extreme.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Extreme will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the Exterme and click Next
Wait a minute while AirPort Setup configures everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
That's it.  Pretty simple.  Things should be working fine now.

  • Make network to connect wireless and ethernet macs

i have a macbook that connects via Airport, and a Mac Pro that connects via ethernet.
In the past - I've had no problems connecting/sharing between 2 macs, but both were sharing one airport.
Since plugging in the MacPro, I'm no longer able to share between the airport connected macbook and ethernet connected MacPro.
Seems like it should be simple and I'm feeling silly.
    help?

    wireless mac -
    ip - 10.0.1.2
    subnet - 255.255.255.0
    router - 10.0.1.1
    macpro ethernet -
    ip - 192.168.15.2
    subnet - 255.255.255.0
    router - 192.168.15.1
I had tried doing a manual setting on the ethernet connected mac (which is plugged into the back of the airport, btw) - changed all settings to match the wireless mac, but still am not able to print wireless to the ethernet mac. when I look under "sharing" on the ethernet mac, the ip still shows up as 192.168.15.1, even after manual config....
    thanks in advance

  • Can I have a wireless and ethernet network?

I want to have a wireless and hardwired/ethernet network in my house. I want to be able to leave one comouter (an eMac that I do most of my work from) connected to the internet via ethernet cable, and then have the Airport Extreme send out the wireless signal (to the laptops, G4PowerBook & MacBook, we also use in the house).
Right now I use my eMac as to send out the wirelss signal, but that required having the eMac on and connected to the internet to then be able to use the internet on our laptops. I hoped that getting an Airport would elimiate having to have the eMac on all the time.
I bought an Airport Extreme at an Apple Store (in Toronto) and the told me that all I needed to do was have the internet going in to the Airport fromthe modem, and then have the ethernet cable coming out from the Airport and to my eMac.
I set it up this way and while the Airport does send out signal to our laptops fine, the eMac does not get any signel from the ethernet cable.
I can't seem to find any information saying that this set up can actually be done. I find a lot of informetion saying that the ethernet-out port on the airport is for things like printers, and not for internet signal.
So, despite what I was told in the Apple Store, can this sort of set up be done? If so, what am I doing wrong?
    -Greg

    Greg,
Yes, you can do what you describe.
The airport extreme base station has two ethernet ports in the rear.
One is for the WAN port were you connect your modem and the other one is for the LAN port where you connect your computer (or hub, etc.)
Plug in your Airport Extreme like mentioned above. You will have to configure it for the Internet and to Distribute IP Addresses if you Internet Modem is NOT a router.
Then setup your computer via the Ethernet cable and Ethernet connection in your System Preferences > Network > Ethernet ...
Set your Airport connection or Ethernet connection on your eMac to DHCP....
Your Airport Extreme should then assign you an IP address, etc., and you should be able to access the Internet at that point.
    Give that a try.

  • Wireless and ethernet for G4 and iPod

Okay, so I just got a new AEBS (which I know nothing about) and an iPod Touch (which I also know nothing about). Too many upgrades in the last week of my life to keep up with - long story. Anyway, G4 is connected via ethernet (no AirPort card) to AEBS which is connect to cable modem. Internet access is fine. However, my iPod can't find my wireless network and I'm wondering how to set the AEBS up for both ethernet for the computer and wireless for the iPod.
I know it has to be possible, but after following the AirPort Utility setup for a new wireless network . . . nothing. I'm totally lost here and would greatly appreciate any help at all. Thanks.

    more monkeying and problem solved.

  • Printing on a wireless and ethernet network

    Just installed AEBS wireless network:
Comcast modem to AESB - to USB printer, and to hub.
iMac G5 and MacBook on wireless cards from AESB
    iMac G4 ethernet to hub
HL LaserJet 5m ethernet to hub
wireless part was a snap, and all can print to USB printer
HP LaserJet can be seen by all, but no one can print to it.
LaserJet has an assigned IP 192.168.1.6 (can be seen on the test page). this is in the range that the AESB provides.
    all units have internet access.
    what am I missing?
I had a Netgear router/firewall in the place of the hub, but removed it and replaced it with the Asante hub because I thought there might be some conflicts with router and the AESB.
repaired permissions, currently getting a message "unable to get printer status (server-error-operation-not-supported)!"
just can't figure out what to do next.
printer had always been reliable on an ethernet network.
    thanks for any help.

    Thanks for the reply
PSU shows it as defaultt printer and "idle".
when I go to print a document, everything looks normal as the job is sent to the printer, but when I look at the printer. it shows connecting on port 631 until I get an error message.
can it be the port assignment that is wrong?
My Printer self test sheet shows that "AppleTalk is Ready"
the test sheet is where I founf the IP address after AEBS setup
by seeing the printer, I mean thet when the print dialogue box comes up, the printer is there.
actually, that is probably not quite true.
I "added" the printer, named by its assigned IP address.
In the AEBS setup, I changed the address convention to 192.168.1.XXX from the default.
no particular reason, other than to check the change of the assigned IP addresses for the network nodes.
I am able to ping the printer with no problems.
is the driver setup made in the Printer Setup Utility?
if so, how would I go about changing it and to what shall I change the driver to?

  • Wireless and Ethernet working together

I have a high-speed wireless internet connection hooked into my network setup in my home office. There are several Powermac computers and a laser printer hooked into an ethernet network - they all have internet access and can communicate with the printer just peachy. But I also have an Airport Extreme base station that connects a couple laptops to the internet, but they cannot connect to the other computers on the network, or communicate with the printer unless they are wired into the Ethernet via the hub.
It's confusing, so here is a diagram of the setup:
    http://www.sigmadog.com/misc/network.jpg
How can I get the laptops and the Base Station to be part of the rest of the network?
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Dual 2Ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I believe all you need to do is setup the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as a bridge.
To set up the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as a bridge, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (found in /Applications/Utilities), make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new settings.

  • Satellite C660-13R - Wireless and Ethernet do not work after format

    Hello there,
I just formatted my laptop and I only get Internet connection with a usb wireless antenna...
Neither ethernet, nor wireless seem to work. Before the format it worked fine.
    Here is the product
    http://www.toshiba.co.uk/discontinued-products/satellite-c660-13r/
    Please help with a solution...
Should I consider death of the adapter and stop trying?

Ok you have formatted your laptop but we don't know what have you installed and which OS version do you use.
As I can see in notebook specification your notebook was delivered with preinstalled Windows 7. This original version (recovery image) contains all necessary drivers and every hardware component is installed and configured properly so everything should work well.
It is very important to know what have you installed and what is teh status of communication devices like LAN and WLAN cards. If both devices are installed properly LAN should work without any limitation but WLAN card must be enabled and I don't see the reason why you should not be able to connect your machine using WLAN connection.
If possible post some detailed info about preinstalled OS version and hardware status.

  • Problems sharing internet- jaguar, leopard, wireless and ethernet

    Hi
I have a MacBook with Leopard and an old iMac with Jag 10.2 on it my partner uses. We've just moved our house around and the router & airport station is now miles from the imac. The two macs are set up in the same room so I hooked up the imac and macbook with an ethernet cable with the idea that the imac could share the wireless connection via the macbook. I set up sharing on the Macbook to share the airport connection via ethernet but the connections isn't working. Any ideas anyone?

gave up and reconnected direct to modem

  • How to merge wireless and ethernet networks?

I have a TC with one Mac connected through ethernet and the other Mac and iOS devices connecting through wireless. How can I merge the ethernet network and the wireless network so that I can share iTunes libraries between the 2 Macs? Thanks

    Thanks for you help.
This would take care of the "normal" file sharing between the 2 Mac. But I'm trying to use the iTune feature called Home Sharing, which allow sharing music etc among familly computers that are on the same network, independantly (as far as I understand) of any file sharing set up in the Mac OS. However my experience so far is that the 2 Mac between which I want to apply this Home Sahring feature have to be on the same network. Indeed even if I only have a TC as my router, the 2 Mac have to be on the same wireless network (main or guest). Since one of my Mac is on the ethernet network and the other on the wireless (main) this does not seam to work. I feel that somehow this Home sharing feature looks for the name of the network and make sure that the 2 computers between which I'm trying to enable sharing use the same network (i.e. same name). However the ethernet network does not have a name....
For now, the solution is to have the ethernet wired Mac to also be connected on the wireless network. I'm just not sure how the OS is handeling the connection to 2 networks (hopefully giving priority to the faster/more reliable ethernet one).
