Wireless AP design for Wireless IPPhone 7921

FOr a client they are asking 40 Wireless IP Phone, with 3 floors, IPT side I am clear in design, but for access point design I am bit confused with standalone and WLC design.
Could please light me on Wireless design for standalone AP and WLC controller with AP , in the design plan to give both as options.
And also how to confirm a AP is a standalone or it wil work only with WLC.
Please light me with wireless design for IPT.

I would suggest you subcontract this to a partner who is familiar with wireless voice designs. There are a lot of details and caveats to make sure it works.
For example: autonomous APs are not viable for voice installations. You need a controller to prevent the roam times from interrupting the call.
At a minimum, you should read the Voice over Wireless LAN Design Guide:

  • BBSM - Basic design for Wireless

I am designing a wireless/BBSM network for a customer. The will have AP's available with both a guest SSID and an Employee SSID. They have non-cisco switches. Can I still use BBSM for guest wireless access?

As long as the BBSM has IP/SNMP connectivity to the Aironet APs you should not have a problem. I would recommend you use the AP settings with packet inactivity timer in network elements.

  • Design for wireless project....need help....

    Hi Team
i have a requirement from client and need suggestions on the design. Client has 1 main office and 5 remote branches. client requires wireless in all offices. approx 600 access points with 100 in each location client requires all wireless access points to be registered at HO controller and a redundant controller to be at the branch. if the controllet @ HO goes down access point to be served by the controller local to the site.
Is this type of a design possible ? kindly do help me in suggesting the best for my clent.
    Thanks !!!

The 7500 has two 10 gig connections that can be used. So you will need a 10 gig module to connect that to. You don't need to use a tertiary wlc unless you have one available. Usually two is good enough. Again.. You need to decide if you want to go local or h-reap. You can go either way, but why put one wlc in HQ and the other at the remote site. If your concern is 100% redundancy, then put two out at each site. If you have more money to use, then add another WLC at HQ for your tertiary. Now I don't think you need more than a 5508-500 at HQ because the percentage of loosing all 6 sites WLC's is pretty slim. If you go h-reap, then put the WLC's at HQ. Get 3 5508-500 for redundancy unless you have the WiSM2. If you have 10gig, then two 7500's will do. You have many options.
    Thanks,

  • Wireless bridge design for 3 buildings

Hey all, I need some assistance picking hardware for the following:
Site A is the main office. Site B is about 500 yards away, direct line of sight, and will only connect to Site A. Site C is about 100 yards away, direct line of sight, and will only connect to Site A. All buildings are single story, and I have full access to rooftops to mount anything.
I was thinking (3) Aironet 1300's, but I've only ever deployed access points for end users, not for point to point bridging.
Which antenna's do I want to use? Two antennas at Site A, or is there a multipoint antenna that I can use? Any issue with placing the AP's inside the buildings and running cable out to the antennas? Aironet 1300's support this type of config?
    Thanks!

    So I want:
    (3) AIR-BR1310G-A-K9-R - Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point or Bridge with RP-TNC type connector.
    (3) AIR-ACCRMK1300= - Roof Mount Kit.
    (1) AIR-ANT2506 - Cisco Aironet 2.4-GHz, 5.2-dBi omnidirectional mast-mount antenna.
    (2) AIR-ANT2410Y-R - Cisco Aironet 2.4-GHz , 10-dBi Yagi antenna.
And just to clarify, the connections look like this:
Wall Power -> Power Module -> Power Injector -> Dual Coax to Ground Block -> Dual Coax to AP -> AP to antenna.
AP mounts directly on mast with antenna?
Looks like the roof mount kit includes everything I would need, as long as the power injector is within 50 feet of the ground block, and the ground block is within 20 feet of the AP.
    Does this all sound correct?
    I appreciate the help!

  • RV325 Router: Adding a wireless access point for wireless printer

    Hi all,
I am trying to add a Linksys ea6350 wireless router to the RV 325 router with the goal of having a wireless printer on the network. I can connect wirelessly to the router and access the internet; PC's that are on the wireless router can find the printer and print. However, PCs that connected to the RV via LAN cannot. I am assuming that this has to do with how the traffic from the wireless router is handled and that basically at the moment both routers are functioning as two separate networks.
Is this something that can be remedied from the Cisco router side? Or the Linksys? Or Both?
    Thank you

Hi Jow, it sounds like you have this EA router connecting through the WAN port going in to your RV router, that would make the most sense because it would NAT your connection, allowing you to wirelessly connect but your LAN connection to the RV325 not working.
If you want to fix this, move your connect from the EA router on to a "LAN port", disable the DHCP server then make sure it is on the same IP subnet as the RV325  and just let it broadcast the wireless signal. The EA router LAN ports are normal switch port so it will work ok.

  • HP LaserJet Pro P1102w printer "Ready" for wireless printing, but gives "error -- printing" message

This P1102w printer was configured for wireless printing from two computers (WinXP and Win7), both with a network sharing designation, and all functions worked perfectly:
Printing from the WinXP computer directly, and from a networked Win2K computer as a guest.
Printing from the Win7 computer directly, and from a networked Win2K computer as a guest.
Windows Printer Test Pages were printed from both installed computers, showing correct computer names, the printer name, Port names (IP addresses), Data format (IMF), Driver information, etc.
Several days later (after new boots), the WinXP computer showed printer status as being "Ready", along with the correct printer "Type" (HP LaserJet Professional P1102w), "Where" (IP address), and "Comment" (network printing).  When a print job was submitted from Microsoft Word, the control-panel printer window first showed the message "printing", and then the message "error -- printing".  Nothing was printed.  The same results occurred when a print job was sent to the WinXP computer from the networked Win2K computer.  HP’s troubleshooting routine did not identify the error, its cause, or what can be done about it.
Successful printing continued, as before, from the Win7 computer directly, and from the networked Win2K computer to the Win7 computer as a guest.
The printer’s blue “i” network indicator lamp is lit, and all three computers continue to communicate through the hub to each other and to the Internet.
HP’s printer installation program was executed on the WinXP computer, using the “fix” option, but nothing changed.  The installation program was executed again on the WinXP computer, using the “new install” option (without removing the existing P1102w installation); the “browse” function saw the network, but no printers were found, and the installation could not be completed.
This is very perplexing.  Any suggestions?
PS:  The same problem occurred once before, and it was fixed by resetting factory defaults on the printer, hard wiring the printer to the WinXP computer through a USB cable, re-installing the printer’s wireless settings from HP’s installation disk, and repeating all of the networking and sharing setups on all three computers.  This is a lot of work that is not worth repeating, because the successful results have not been permanent.

    To:  Neonskeleton,
Thanks for your response -- especially because you are an HP employee!
My Win2k machine does not use HP software, nor communicate to the HP printer.  (HP did not write a Win2k driver for the P1102w -- and evidently no one else has done this, either.)  My WinXP and Win7 machines use their HP drivers to send print jobs to the P1102w wirelessly, and both machines have the P1102w set up as a shared printer.  Then, when I connect to those machines as a "guest" and submit a print job to those machines, those machines receive the print job and then communicate with the printer using the proper installed printer drivers.
Everything worked great with this configuration, until suddenly the printer was no longer responsive to ANY jobs coming from the WinXP machine, even though there was a "printer ready" indication on the WinXP machine, and even though the printer responded perfectly to print jobs coming from the Win7 machine.
When I tried to "fix" the WinXP setup by running HP's setup program on CD, nothing changed.  Then, when I tried to reinstall the WinXP setup for wireless printing, the program insisted that I reset THE PRINTER'S factory defaults and proceed using a USB cable -- even though I wanted to simply ADD the computer for wireless communication to an existing networked printer!  I would conclude that something screwed up the printer's inner settings (maybe an unsolicited and invisible HP update sent to my printer from the Internet?).
As I mentioned in my original post, I went through this process once before, reinstalled everything on all machines, and all was well.  Until THE SAME non-recognition problem surfaced again!
I do not want to spend any more time on this.  I went to Staples and bought a second P1102w printer (it is a nice little machine that uses a xerographic cartridge, rather than costly inkjet cartridges that frequently plug up).  I'll use a USB cable for the connection, rather than the installed wireless feature, and set up the P1102w as a shared printer.  I expect that all of my other computers will be able to link as a "guest" through the wireless hub and be able to print.
    Thanks again.
PS.  I am a retired computer-systems manager from Northrop Grumman.

  • Tools for wireless survey

Do any partners use tools they feel are easy to determine cell overlap for wireless deployment? We use the 7921 phones survey tool but are looking for feedback on what else is used in the field.

We have a non-production WCS server that can be used for predictive assessment by uploading the map or you could use AirMagnet Surveyor to perform real-time data collection.  Other than that I suppose you could take readings with NetStumbler or another wireless RSSI utility to ensure coverage/overlap.

  • Wireless Network Design

What are best practices in consideration to wireless network design? I have a WLC 4400 and 1200 AP's that I want to deploy to replace my existing wireless network. I am researching the best network design for implementing a secured wireless infrastructure and also having a quest account for non employee's to logon to and surf the Internet. We also have WAN sites that need to be included in this design.

  • New to Mac...how do I get set up for wireless internet?

I've just been given a new Mac Book as a gift, and previously had a desktop windows computer that i used Comcast cable internet to connect to internet.
Can someone give me some pointers as to how I need to set up my internet now so I can be wireless? Can i still go through my comcast provider?
    Thanks.

    a brody wrote:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Comcast typically does not provide a wireless solution in its own modem, but you can hook up a wireless router to their modem so your MacBook can be on wirelessly at your home. Comcast also usually gives you an ethernet modem, which most wireless routers support. If your Comcast modem is only ethernet and not WiFi, you'll need a WiFi router. Apple offers the Airport Express, Extreme, and Time Capsule wireless access points for easiest setup with the MacBook. The Express is the cheapest solution for someone with all WiFi capable machines in the house. If only the MacBook is present, you can also get a Time Capsule to be used with Mac OS X 10.5 if it is installed, to backup your Mac to a wireless hard drive, in addition to having wireless access. If you have a MacBook together with a machine with no WiFi card built-in, the Airport Extreme has LAN ports for any machine with a 10-base-T, 100-base-T, or Gigabit ethernet NIC card. Built-in to the MacBook is the ability to access the internet wirelessly at any WiFi hotspot on the road.
I've got an Comcast/RCA branded modem with both ethernet and USB connections.
Here's how to setup a wireless network at home with all of Apple's Airport base stations:
    http://www.apple.com/support/airport/
Some third party 802.11n access points exist, but due to their being in draft specification, many won't give you full 802.11n access, and only give you 802.11g speeds unless their firmware is the same as Apple's.
Most are apparently operating off of the same draft spec. I'll just note that my D-Link D-615 notes an 802.11n connection with my late 2007 MacBook.
And "same firmware" seems to be a stretch in description. Firmware is specific to the hardware, so of course two different manufacturers are going to have different firmware - even if they are functionally compatible. Compatibility with various 802.11n draft or the eventual final standard should mean that the firmware is written to support the standard, with implied compatibility with other equipment designed to the same standard.

  • Firewall for wireless deployment

    Hi all,
I am currently working on a client RFP. They are inquiring about wireless controllers and AP alongwith Firewall and IPS/IDS solution for wireless. I want to know that does wireless lan controller (5760 in this case) supports firewall/IPS/IDS or is there any other box designed for this purpose ?

To be honest... No. Cisco has a wIPS feature but that requires NCS or Prime infrastructure along with an MSE. There is no built in firewall. They must be looking at an Aruba solution to be honest.

  • Wireless N adapter for MacBook Pro Core Duo

I am really wanting to upgrade my network to Wireless N. Problem being I have the core duo MacBook Pro which does not have this capability. Does any one know if apple, or anyone else, is planning on or has released an adapter (usb or express card) for wireless N that I could plug into my machine? I have seen only one solution on the internet but would rather not void my warranty and risk screwing up my computer. Thanx.

Yes, After I posted this yesterday I found a similar article. I think they just released it yesterday. Ask and you shall receive . I think I found another one, for half the price as well, by Edimax (EW-771Un) that is USB.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833315077
I think we are still on the verge of this tech becoming mainstream so there are not too many products yet. The whole "draft" n thing is annoying. I think they will have a whole new version by a different letter by the time they take the Draft off of the the designation.
Now the question is will it work with the Wireless N Airport for maximum speed to make the expense worth it?
    Thanks.

  • Setting up HP LaserJet Pro P1102w for wireless but can not save wireless settings

This printer worked fine on wireless with my last TWC modem/router, but I have tried for hours to set it up with a new one and it simply will not let me. USB works fine, but when I follow the instructions found here: OS X Yosemite Wireless. I choose Method three at this link: Method three: Wireless setup using a USB connection. Here is what happens after this:
    1. I downloaded the latest Apple HP drivers on my iMac (HPPrinterDrivers3.0.dmg).
    2. Clicked Apple Software Updates to ensure I had the latest.
    3. Turned on the printer
    4. Has paper and is in ready mode with no flashing lights
    5. Plugged USB from printer into iMac
    6. Followed HP instructions: Systems Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Clicked on the P1102w printer which was already on the list > Open Print Queue > Open Printer Utility > HTML Config... > Network Tab > Wireless (confirmed it was enabled, I refreshed the network names and added my wireless network, added my wireless network password) > Apply.
This is where everything crashes. After clicking Apply, the page will show up blank, the HTML will be messed up, or I will receive a message that says:
Safari can’t open the page “http://;ocalhost:5050/cgi-bin/ip_wireless_result.htm”. The error is: “cannot parse response” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1017)
I have tried other Chrome and Firefox and got similar results. At this point, I am out of options based on the HP support sites that I have found. One HP site said to uninstall the HP software located in Libraries > Printers, so I did this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi @txrun,
I see that you are experiencing issues setting up the printer on the new router. I will certainly do my best to help you.
Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. Sometime the Embedded Web Server won't open or will error out, if it isn't. Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.
Restore printer defaults first and then run the HTML again. You may need to delete and add the printer again into the Printers and Scanners to be able to open the HTML again.
Restore defaults: Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
Print a configuration page to make sure the old network settings are cleared. Printing a Configuration Page.
If you are still having issues, please check these settings on the router.
The printer is only capable of sending/receiving in the 2.4Ghz band.
If it is set to 5 GHZ network you may need to change to 2.4 GHZ. (rename the 5ghz or shut it off)
The WPA key setting needs to be on AES to work correctly not TKIP.
Multi casting needs to be turned on.
Firewall on router has to have open ports for printer.
If you have Mac Filtering you need to give printer hardware address from configuration page.
You might need to contact your router company for further assistance to check those settings.
If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.
    Have a nice weekend!
