Wireless AP managment

Good day,
On CWLMS Prime, currently you can not manage AP's as stated below:
How is a device defined within CiscoWorks device counts?
A. A device is defined as a unique IP Address and System Object ID (SysOid). A single chassis will be counted as multiple devices if the chassis is configured with multiple IP Addresses. Ex. A switch with multiple line cards, NAM, firewall etc. or a stackable switch that has an IPAddr assigned to each switch that participates in the stack will be treated as multiple devices within CiscoWorks. Note:IP Phones and controller based access points do not count as managed devices within LMS.
Will there be a new release that will eventually allow management of these AP's
Thanks

Controller-based access points are managed under their respective controllers. Those controllers can be managed by LMS. Autonomous APs can be managed directly by LMS.
Note Cisco Prime 4.2 appears to be integrating the LMS (typically more LAN-based) and NCS (more wireless-based) functions under a single product suite. (The data sheet had been posted earlier this week but now appears to have been pulled temporarily from cisco.com.)

how do i access and open the wireless network manager on my imac?

On my 10.6.8 iMac there's an inverted triangle at the top right section of the screen.  Click on it, and a drop down menu will appear.  Click on network preferences> a window will appear>click "Turn Airport on" and start managing. Hopefully, your Mid 2007 is similar. NOTE: These instructions are for managing the internal wi fi system within your iMac computer

  • Wireless network management solution

We are running a pilot project to deploy a centralize wireless solution for our campus. The pilot consists of only about 20 Cisco1200 access points. We are in need of Network Management solution to manage these access points. The NMS would have to pretty much behave like what we already have into place for our wired networks such as: alerts on snmp traps, thresholds settings, data capture, administration, etc, in general be able to proactively check possible shortcomings on the infrastructure and help to troubleshoot problems. Once we fully deploy the centrally controlled wireless network, there could be any way from 1200 to 1500 access points, so whichever system we choose must be able to scale to these numbers.
I’m interested in knowing which wireless network management solutions are the preferred one from the audience on this forum. Your input will help me to narrow down possible options.
Thanks a lot for any information.

I would suggest that you go for the WLSE. CiscoWorks WLSE is a centralized, systems-level application for managing and controlling an entire Cisco Aironet WLAN infrastructure. For more information on this read

  • Idea about how-to using 'Agilent Wireless Test Manager' interfaces in Labview ?

    Hello everyone,
I am not sure whether it is appropriate to post this here.
Currently I got a Wireless Test Manager CD(Agilent E6560A) and is trying to convert some functionalities inside class 'cdmaTXMeasTests' into labview.
I am doing the 'code domain power testing' module with labview, which is well done in that 'cdmaTXMeasTests'.
I am wondering if any one could provide me some idea how to use that 'cdmaTXMeasTests' in my labview without rebuild the wheel.
( I am not sure whether that would work,  Are the libaries used by wireless test manager a  ActiveXDLL that could be used by labview ? Or there is some other way to do it or not?)
    Any idea is well appreciated,
    +Kunsheng Chen

    Good Afternoon Kunsheng Chen,
It seems like you are trying to port your DLL.  Rather, I would suggest using a Call Library Function Node (right-click the Block Diagram, Functions>>Connectivity>>Libraries & Executables>>Call Library Function Node).
From the Agilent website, this is a C dll so you will be able to access it using this VI in LabVIEW with no problems.  You might want to contact Agilent to see if this DLL has ActiveX components.  Alternatively, you can simply browse the list of ActiveX components on your computer.
The following links may provide some useful information for using a DLL in LabVIEW.

  • Safari can't connect to a windows wireless access manager

I am the automation coordinator for a library that uses all windows applications. We have recently installed a wireless access manager that we use to authenticate our patrons. We have discovered that patrons using safari cannot always connect to our WAM. They are getting the signal, I can see that much. But they can't then proceed to our log-in page. Other libraries in my consortium have discovered that if Safari users have ie or firefox also installed, they can use that browser to get to the web page, after which they can use safari to browse. It is just the log in page that safari can't connect to. Tech support from the WAM vendor claims this is not an issue they can reproduce. Any insight anybody can offer me here would be greatly appreciated.

It would be helpful to post the URL. Thanks Someone in these forums with programming knowledge in this area ought to be able to assist you.

  • WT200 3G - Wireless connection manager says radio is turned off

Can someone please help. I have a WT200 tablet and am trying use/setup the 3G component..
But the Wireless connection manager keeps telling me that the radio is turned off.
There are no switches and i have searched the net for a solution however I have seen the same question but not the answer.
    HELP ME! PLEASE!

WT200 tablet does not contain an physical switch to enable WLan. You should ensure that Wireless Communication function (in Win 7 settings) is ON !!!
You can do that in Start -> control panel -> network and internet -> network and sharing center
here tap Set up new connection or network
At least you should go to: Start -> All Programs ->Toshiba -> network & Connectivity -> Wlan indicator settings
and could display the system Wlan connection status

When I configure a Wep key to my wireless internet
sharing network, my windows installed notebook can't
connect to my iMac. But when I set up it free the
    notebook connects easily.
There does seem to be a known issue with a WEP encrypted software base station and Windows clients.
As far as I am aware there is no way to get a Windows client to connect to a WEP encrypted software base station (sharing internet via Airport on a Mac).
I tried both with ASCII and
HEX keys and generated them from:
You could try a ASCII key of
    1234567123456
which will be a HEX key of
    31323334353637313233343536
However if this doesn't work then nothing will.
I don't know what to do and I don't want to set a
wireless network free for security problems. Does
    anyone know a solution?
Yes, get a wireless router and use that, it really is the only suitable solution.

  • Wireless network management software for iMac?

    Hello all
I am running a home WLAN via a cable modem + Belkin N Wireless Router, with my Intel iMAc wired to the router, and 3 PC's with wireless connections.
    All running perfectly!
However - I would like to be able to control the network from the Mac, specifically as follows:
    - have visibility of all machines connected at any time
    - have visibility of the bandwidth consumption of each machine
    - be able to "bandwidth throttle" each machine, ie allocate maximum "shares of bandwidth"
    - be able to schedule bandwidth throttling per machine, as well as set manually
Is there any software that does this for the Mac, and that is recommended by users on this board?
Note that I have zero understanding of router functionality and therefore accept that this question may or may not make sense!
Thanks in advance for any help / recommendations

Rick - thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
Yes there are controls in the router to manage internet access for each client on the network but they are simply of the yes / no variety - allowing the admin to just turn access on or off.
My teenage kids use Internet access for a variety of (legitimate!) purposes but my ISP (Virgin Media) imposes automatic "traffic management" bandwidth throttle on my connection (from 10 MBPS to 1 MBPS for 5 hours) if our overall bandwidth consumption exceeds 1,200 MB between 4pm and 9pm (http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html)
Needless to say, getting my kids to monitor and limit their own traffic during this period is impossible - so I would like to be able to automate the policing of traffic levels fairly amongst 3 concurrent users during the trigger time slot 4pm - 9pm without having to resort to a blunt "on/off" policy.
From your reply I guess that my router provider (Belkin) would be the best source of information regarding available software for this - assuming it exists ...?
    Thanks

  • Wireless Network Management with Multiple SSIDs in one Wireless Profile

Could anybody explain me about how Multiple SSIDs in one Wireless Network Name (Network Profile) ? Configuration will be pushed to Windows 7 Pro from Wins Server 2008 R2.
Objective: Multiple office locations will have different SSIDs and when the laptop user travels one location to another, he/she could connect to wireless networks at any offices without any configuration change but utilizing "Automatically use my Windows
logon name and password (and domain if any.)" setting in EAP MSCHAPv2 properties.
    Network Name: Enterprise
    SSIDS: SFO-WIFI, LAX-WIFI,CHI-WIFI,NYC-WIFI,
    Network Type:Access Point
    Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
    Encryption Type: AES
    Network Authentication Method: Microsoft:Protect EAP(PEAP)
My question is: (1) Will Windows try all the SSIDs in order to get connected to the Wireless Network at the office? (Let's say, user is in NYC, but will Windows try to find SFO-WIFI SSID first, wait until time out, retry?, and moves on to LAS-WIFI SSID,
wait until time out, retry?, and moves on to CHI-WIFI and finally tries NYC-WIFI SSID and found the SSID in the beacon from Access Point and authenticates through RADIUS?
    (2) If the answer is YES, what is the waiting time/timeout setting for one SSID before moves on to another?
    (3) If the answer is NO, what is the process to get user connected to NYC-WIFI SSID when he/she is in NYC office within the range of that SSID?

    Hello Ninjago_2224,
About the multiple office location have different SSIDs, does the location A has the signal used in
    location D?
Please go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center
, and then click Manage wireless networks.
The windows will try to connect to these networks in the order listed.
Please check if the four SSID pushed by Windows Server 2008 is listed as mentioned above.
If the location A have the location D SSID and the location D SSID has higher priority, the Windows will connect to
    location D SSID.
So about the question 1, the Windows will try the SSID in order.
About the question 2, I can’t find the accurate time that test one SSID and move to another. But based on my test, it is very fast.
For more information, please take a look at the following article.

  • E4200 Bridged Mode - Wireless and Management fail after 36 hours

    Greetings all,
I am trying to see if anybody else is having this problem.  I have the E4200 and have it configured in bridged mode.  Once configured, everything works great for 36 hours.
After 36 hours, all wireless devices are unable to pull an IP address and the management IP address of the E4200 stops responding.  The only way to restore service is to reload the router.
I took the first one back to Best Buy and they gave me a new one, however the new router has the same issue.
It seems to me that after 36 hours, the E4200 fails to renew its management IP and also stops forwarding wireless broadcasts (DHCP) requests to my DHCP server.
    Thoughts?

Thanks.  The new E4200 firmware has "bridged mode" so basically I just have this thing acting as a Wireless access point that has 5 Gigabit ethernet ports.
This disables the routing engine in the E4200 and it acts as a wireless AP and switch.  The E4200's WAN port then connects to a Gigabit switch located in my telco closet, which is connected to my FiOS Router.
Reason for this setup is so that devices connected to either the Gigabit switch, or to the E4200 via hardwire or wireless will all remain on the same subnet, and not cause the broadcasts to block as packets traverse subnets.

  • Wireless LAN Management

    Members,
Any suggestions as to which is the best WLAN management application to use for AP 1200s?
Our WLAN Network is small at the moment but could grow a lot bigger.
I would like to try Cisco Wireless LAN solution Engine, but unfortunately they do not make available an evaluation copy.
    So, any ideas?
    Regards,
    Martin.

    Martin,
I am aware of a solution that effeciently manages, moitors and helps in mass-configuration of small and medium sized WLAN infrastructure including all Cisco Accesspoints, Switches and routers.
If you are interested send me an e-mail at [email protected] I can refer you to the appropriate contact. They do provide an evaluation copy.

  • Wireless Policy Management

Hi all, I'm new to In-Tune so please excuse my ignorance...
Can Windows In-Tune be used to manage wireless networks? - we want to be able to deploy certificates (and updates to them) along with corporate wireless network settings (SSID, authentication methods etc).
I know Airwatch can do this but it seems to make more sense using In-Tune to manage Windows devices, if this is possible
    Thanks in advance, Rob

You have a couple of options
    1. You can do this in the ConfigMgr console if you are using the Unified Device Management solution (ConfigMgr & Intune) > Assets and Compliance > Company Resource Access > Wi-Fi Profiles
    2. You can deploy a script via Windows Intune

  • Wireless Bridge Management options

    Hello,
I am really new to Wireless Solution. What will be the best management option for the Cisco 1310 or 1410 being used as Bridge(Pairs: Root and Non-Roots)? I am planning to use WLSE for managing 1410 Bridges as suggested in the Cisco Docments but at the same time in one of the documents they are suggesting to migrate from WLSE to WCS!Is it advisable to use WCS instead of WCS for Wireless Bridges? What will you recommend?
    Please advice. Thank you.

Unfortunately, WCS isn't an option. There is currently no bridging option for Cisco's lightweight solution, and WCS only manages lightweight access points.
So while WLSE is your only option, it's also EOS/EOL. So... yeah... Cisco needs to step it up and give us some options here.
Sorry, probably not what you expected to hear :/ You might want to look at a third-party management platform like AirWave, since Cisco doesn't actually have a living solution for autonomous bridging management.

  • Wireless AP Management VLAN and BVIs

    Hi All,
I've been looking around and I can't find a solution to what I am trying to achieve and I was hoping the community may have had more luck than I have.
I'm looking to have my management VLAN for my AP setup as a tagged BVI but I'm struggling to get it setup. I can set it up fine using BVI1 and having it just accessed on the native VLAN but I see this as a security flaw, I don't really want direct access into my management network on the switch.
Now there may be a better way of preventing this but I am, at least compared to many, still fairly new to Cisco and this seems to be the best approach. Please see below for my current config, hopefully you can let me know where I am going wrong.
Also, as a note, at the moment I am mainly focusing on the management security of the AP before I check the wifi config, hence the radios still being shutdown so there may also be small errors in this. I have also removed some elements which are not relevant.

As you can see I am using BVI100 as the management VLAN for the device and BVI1 is shutdown with vlan 999/int gi0/101 holding bridge group 1.
With this setup I can't get any IP communication, send or receive but I can see the MAC address on the switch in the MAC address table on vlan100. There is also no entries in the ARP table of the AP.
The switch is setup with vlan 999 untagged and vlans 10,30,100 as tagged.
Hope you can help! Thanks for any advice in advanced.
    Many thanks,
    Martin.

Yea that would work and I have set it up like this without issue but I'm trying to limit access to the management VLAN, I don't want someone to be able to plug directly into the switch and be on the same broadcast domain as alll of the other equipment.
There are otherways of achieving this but I felt like I was so close with the above config but I was just missing something.
