Wireless apple keyboard not pairing at set up of new mac mini

i have just purchased a new mac mini and wireless keyboard and trackpad. i am trying to setup my mac mini but the keyboard does not pair. i have tried replacing the batteries. but as i am new to macs i dont have much of a clue. the trackpad connects fine.

I had this same issue when I purchased my Mini. Unfortunately, the initial setup of your wireless keyboard requires a wired keyboard. I don't recall where I found this information, but it may have been in the manual for the Mac wireless keyboard. I purchased a Mac wired keyboard from Fry's Electronics to log in and sync the wireless keyboard and returned the wired keyboard later that day.

  • Setting up my new Mac mini - Why am I going around in circles?

I'm setting up a new Mac mini I purchased yesterday and after I've answered the following questions, the setup assistant keeps on briging me to the "Main language" window without me having access to anything else.
1 - Choosing the main language
    2 - Choosing my country
    3 - Choosing keyboard layout
4 - Choosing my Wi-Fi network and entering its Password
5 - Choosing if I want to transfer any information from another source (I don't)
6 - Entering my Apple ID and its password
7 - Agreeing to the licence agreement
8 - Entering my personal information
9 - Creating my computer account (I now have 4 accounts that I can't use!!)
I then get the flanel screen for a few seconds and then the "Main language" window comes back on as if I need to do this again cause I have access to absolutely nothing else.
    Thanks for your help.
    James

I've tried a few different times now, and still no success.
The first time I try this, the screen was light grey for about 5 seconds, and the screen then alternated between asking me to press on the Mac cordless keyboard side power button and the Mac cordless mouse door under it. I kept on holding the option button on the keyboard but the screen eventually came back to the same "Main language" screen.
The second time, I got the screen to ask me to choose between two disc drives. My original one on my MacBook Air and a recovery one. I chose the original one. And also chose my Wi-Fi network. The screen eventually came back to the same "Main language" screen.

You should find a card (size like a cd jacket) with serial no. It should be put all together with an installation DVD and user manual etc.

  • Setting up a new mac mini

I have just arrived in Greece with a brand new Mac mini, with wireless keyboard and magic trackpad... bought in Manchester, UK on Monday.
I also was sold a Belkin HDMI cable to connect the mini to the TV.
So I haven't got very far .. I have connected the cable to the TV and Mac and turned on the power ... After the apple symbol comes a white box with an oval shape diagram. there is a balloon with a Green button and arrow which does not relate wither to anything on the mac or the TV????
There is nothing in the manual to explain...
Can anybody out there offer any help...

your mini does not yet recognize the wireless keyboard and trackpad.
for the initial setup, connect wired keyboard and mouse (any old - even winsloth devices - will do) to it. then pair the wireless keyboard and trackpad, after which the wired stuff can go.

  • Pairing existing bluetooth peripherals with new mac mini

I have been using a 1st gen. mac mini for 5 years and just bought a new 5th gen mac mini. I want to know, since I am using a mac bluetooth mouse and keyboard, when I hook up the new mini, will it automatically find my mouse and keyboard? Do I need to get a USB keyboard and mouse to make the transition? Also, I want to make my old mini a slave to the new mini to transfer my files and some apps that aren't native to mac. How do I achieve this?

The new Mac Mini should find your mouse so you can continue the setup.
You will probably have to add the keyboard later but that isn't a problem.
During the setup, it will ask you if you want to transfer items from another computer.
At this time, you would want a firewire cable connected between the 2 computers.
This will transfer all of your data from one machine to the other.
The firewire cable will be 6 pin on your old mini and I believe 9 pin on the new mini.
You could use a 6 pin firewire cable on each end and then use an adapter for the other mini.
Basically, the old mini has Firewire 400 port and the new mini has Firewire 800 port so all you need to do is hook the two computers together. This would be the fastest. Or, you could just transfer the data wirelessly between the two computers but it will take longer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Front Row not outputting 5.1 Dolby on new Mac Mini

I have the new model of Mac Mini and have it successfully sending 5.1 output to my receiver from the DVD player as well as couple of other apps.
However I cannot get 5.1 to work with Front Row. The files do have 5.1 encoded (a get info in iTunes shows it). But if I open the file in QuickTime Player it only shows 2 channel audio and Front Row only sends 2 channels to the receiver.
I've searched here and around the net and found a lot of conflicting info on whether or not this works and if so how to configure it. Also some indication it may be broken in the current Snow Leopard. It's pretty disappointing because I asked the guy at the Apple Store, who seemed knowledgeable about HTPC usage, specifically if I could get 5.1 output and he said yes as long as I used the right cables and my equipment supported it.
I did try a few of the tips on the 'net for how to get 5.1 out and none of them worked. Would like to know if anyone has this working under Snow Leopard.

    Simple fix:
    1. Launch DVD Player (it's in the Applications folder).
    2. Open DVD Player menu > Preferences and choose Disk Setup.
    3. In the "Audio output" dropdown box, select the internal optical output instead of "System Sound Output".
Even though DVD Player seems like a separate application from Front Row, the settings you make in DVD Player apply to both.

  • Apple keyboard not pairing with iMac

My wireless keyboard was working fine just until 2 weeks ago when I went out of town for a couple of weeks (and it has worked fine for over 2 years now).  Now it is giving me problems pairing with my iMac.  I've gone through all the support discussions and I've tried everything.
I uncoupled the device from the computer because it was not connecting and have tried connecting it ever since and nothing seems to work.  The computer seems to "find" the keyboard but won't connect to it.
I have pushed down the power button the entire time during pairing process as suggested by some people with the problem on the discussion boards and that doesn't do it either.   While occasionally the computer will see the keyboard, it just does not seem to want to connect to it.  The green light comes on for a bit when I hold the power key down (or even when I just push it once) and then goes off.  It never blinks i.e. it doesn't seem like it's going into pairing mode at all.
This is really confounding.  Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.  I'm already 3 hours in the whole trying to fix this.

    Thanks Barry.
I had already deleted the KB from the bluetooth preferences and it was discoverable, so no idea why it wasn't working.
However, eventually what ended up working was that I turned the iMac off, I took the keyboard to work (i.e. away from anywhere near the iMac's vicinity) and then when I brought it back at the end of the day, the green light suddenly started blinking again and the iMac discovered the KB.   I don't know how these things are designed but apparently, you need to take the KB out of the range of the device it was formerly paired with EVEN IF you have deleted the device from the bluetooth preferences.  Otherwise, somehow, the pairing is still remembered and the device is not recognized.
If this happens again, next time, I'll try your reset SMC suggestion.  thanks for your help.

  • New mac mini won't pair with new wireless keyboard

How do you set up a new mac mini with a new wireless keyboard bought separately ... computer does not see the keyboard.
I've seen this question asked before but the only answer seems to be to get a usb keyboard for set up. So do I need to go out and buy another keyboard to complete the set up or is there a way around this
    Thanks.

  • New mac mini and wireless keyboard

how do I set up a new mac mini and wireless keyboard at the same time?

Since the Mac Mini does not come with a Monitor, Keyboard or Mouse those are needed when setting up a Mac Mini. I don't know what brand wireless KB you have or if that even matters.
I have an Apple wireless keyboard (bluetooth), Apple magic trackpad (bluetooth), and Dell DVI monitor. When I initially booted my new Mac Mini, the screen showed it searching for bluetooth devices. It found the keyboard first and then a few seconds later, the mouse. So, I had all devices to finish setup of the Mini.

  • New Mac Mini sends airplay audio but does not receive it

I just purchased and set up two new Mac Minis with Mountain Lion. Previous to this, using Lion and even Leopard, I could send Airplay audio to any of my desktop machines. Further, my iOS devices could send audio to my Macs running Snow Leopard and Lion. The new machines do not receive airplay audio from anything. They can send to the other devices, but not to themselves. Had I upgraded all of desktop machines to 10.8, I wouldn't be able to send audio anywhere.
    Why is this?

From what I'm reading, airplay is only for streaming to your tv.  I have apple tv and have never been able to stream from one device to another;  only from device to tv.
Can you link to an apple document saying it's supposed to work computer to computer?  Are you sure you weren't using home sharing in itunes?

  • New Mac Mini + 30" Apple Display = 1280x800??

I'm a long time Apple user and Apple developer. So I just bought a new Mac Mini (Macmini3,1) assuming, perhaps foolishly, it would simply plug into my Apple 30" display and I'd be able to get native resolution.
Unfortunately, 10.6.1 on the Mini only lists 1280x800 as the highest available resolution and it's not clear I have any options. Searching this forum only leads to hundreds of hits of every kind of display problem imaginable, and I frankly am pretty disappointed from using two relatively brand new Apple products together, only to get what feels like a PC experience.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

Thanks for the assistance guys. Yes, upon closer inspection of the info of a DVI dual link adapter is there, but then again I wasn't expecting a DVI device that plugs into a DVI socket to NOT work for two Apple products. What also threw me is that since my main machine is a MBP from two years ago (with the built-in dual link), I wasn't thinking about that stuff. Also, after reading the reviews for the DVI dual link adapter, I'm not sure I even want to go that route--there's some BAD stories there, ugh.
Sigh, I guess "it just works" is reserved for their ad campaigns these days.
    Anyway, thanks again guys.

  • Will my 30" apple display work on a new mac mini

I want to upgrade to an new mac mini and from my Powermac G5.. but I ave a 30" apple cinima.
Will it work on the new mac mini?
    Thanks
    Martin

Hi Martin, the Mini only has Thuberbolt for Displays...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolt_(interface)
    Though that article says...
This makes the system backward compatible with existing DisplayPort hardware upstream of the driver. A single Thunderbolt port supports hubs as well as a daisy chain of up to seven Thunderbolt devices; up to two of these devices may be high-resolution displays using DisplayPort.[6] Existing Mini DisplayPort adapters for DVI, dual-link DVI, HDMI, and VGA are compatible with Thunderbolt, allowing backwards compatibility and no loss of functionality compared to Mini Displayport.
    I cant find any!

  • Problem connecting Apple TV to my new Mac Mini iTunes libraries.

I cannot appear to connect via Apple TV to my iTunes libraries on my new Mac Mini. My other iOS devices and MacBook Pro all connect up fine. I have two accounts on my Mac Mini. One is a shadow of my Macbook Pro account and the other is a family account. On the family account, I can see the Airplay icon on the top menu bar but all it gives is the option to open Display Preferences. When I go to my Apple TV on the family account, it attempts to load the iTunes library but hangs for a long time and then states it cannot connect to account. All my software is up-to-date and I have tried a full reset on my Apple TV. On my other account, I don't even get the Airplay icon.
I am at a loss as to what is wrong.

Let me clarify. The computer is on and so is Apple TV (home sharing is switched on both). On one user I see the Airplay mirroring icon (the same one that also appears on my MacBook Pro and my iPad and iPhone). Except that all I get is the "Open Display Preferences". Even in in the display preferences the AirPlay option is greyed out. I have tried resetting options on both the Apple TV and the Mac Mini but to no avail. If my other Apple devices weren't working then would think it was an Apple TV problem. however the problem seems to be in communication. As I said in my original post, the puzzling thing is that Apple TV know what iTunes library on the Mac Mini to connect (as it states it on the TV screen [and it is different to my MacBook Pro library]) and knows it exists but just won't connect to it.
