Wireless-B BEFW11S4

We had a brief power outage and the wireless router has not recogized the ethernet connection since. I have used the reset button and I have unplugged the router and cable modem several times trying to get it to recognize the ethernet cabel with no success. The router still gives a wireless signal which works fine so I am confused. Any suggestions? Could the router have a short circuit from the power outage?

Hi,
Try to do this one..on the computer that is hardwired or connected with a cable to the linksys router , just click start > control panel > system > hardware > device manager > network adapters , if you can see there the one which says something like broadcomm / ntel r pro.. / realtek / fast ethernet NIC or VE network adapter just do a double click , then advanced tab , then look for something that says speed/duplex , linkspeed / duplex , or connection type ; then on the value set it to 10mbps half duplex or 10 mb half mode , or 10base t.. then ok..then check on the led on the port where the computer is plugged in is lit, if it is lit then its good to go..

  • Wireless router =/= Wireless functions, BEFW11S4

I've just recieved my brand new Lenovo super-sexy laptop with 2 gigs of Ram and a T2060 processor (sweet!), and I've got a wireless router next to me *Linksys BEFW11S4* that has been wired to two desktops for a couple months, working great. I've now got my laptop wired (ewwww) to post this, because this laptop nor a D3ll my uncle has is picking up the router signal...it doesn't seem to be broadcasting. I have wireless Enabled, SSID [my name], SSID broadcast: enabled, Channel 1, WEP key mandatory, but that's just encryption...I'm not even detecting it right now. Any thoughts as to what it could be? Are there any settings I need to configure? I followed the install instructions, no success. Could it be that both of the laptops are running Vista, and the router is too old or something? The router is a B router, but the wireless card in this one is G/B. I can actually pick up my neighbour's signal from here, but nothing from mine (even though it's RIGHT next to me). Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Your BEFW11S4 is not listed as being compatible with Vista.   Vista compatible routers are listed here:
    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=116967192962...
You probably could get a wired connection to your BEF, but a wireless connection is less likely.  Maybe you could try to connect using WPA  (= WPA with TKIP), but it likely will not work.
My guess is that you have already replaced your computer twice since you bought that router.  Time for a new router.

  • Wireless-B BEFW11S4 "wireless B" LED light...

I'm trying to set up a wireless router with my DSL but I'm having a problem.  I followed the directions (plugged the cord from the modem into the internet slot on the router and the other cord from an internet port on the router to the computer) but the wireless B led light doesn not come on.  I tried pressing the reset button and yes, I did hold it down for over 30 seconds. Nothing happens. How do I fix this so I can get online using my wireless?

are u able to go online with the hardwired connections ??? if so , get into the router using http://192.168.1.1 , go to the wireless section and ensure that wireless is "enabled"....or else the wireless part may be dead.

  • WVC54GC and the Wireless B BEFW11S4

I have a new WVC54GC camera that I hooked up to my Wireless B router. I ran the whole setup disc and I can see my camera on my computer. The thing is I cannot access it through the internet from work. I called LInksys and since the router is so old they would not help me with Port Forwarding. How do I open the port that I can see my camera from another internet connection (work)?

  • Linksys Wireless Router BEFW11S4 - Shows connected, but I can not connect to the internet

I have a Linksys Router hooked up to a cable RCA modem using Comcast Cable. There are 3 laptops that hook up wirelessly to the router and they have been working fine for the past two years. However, recently all three laptops can not connect to the internet for some reason. I checked with Comcast and they checked out the modem and tested it and it works fine. When I hook my laptop up to the modem with an ethernet cable, it works fine and I can get  on the internet. When I hook the modem up to the router and try to connect wirelessly it appears to be fine. It shows that the router is connected there is connectivity on all our laptops, however when I open a new internet explorer page to get on the internet, it does nothing. A blank page appears and the webpage will not load. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it the router or the way it is setup in the admin page or could it be possibly something else? Thanks.

As it shows connected under wireless ....check the Ip address under wireless network connection .....
If it shows Ip 192.168.1.X ....with gateway 192.168.1.1 ..... try to pnig the gateway address ...
If getting reply try going online ....
    Also disable the firewall first.....

  • Laptop-wireless w/befw11s4

My isp made some changes and I lost the linksys connection. I have since restored my desk top (and laptop with the ethernet cable only) Wireless, the lap top claims to be connected-but recieves zilch, and I cannot connect to the internet. I have tried everything!! Ideas?

Changed the ip address as well as the subnet mask, gateway, and dns address. That's how I was able to get it to work with the wire. Pinging was unsuccessful at first try, and later returned.

  • Wireless router BEFW11S4

We have multiple computers on network and when a new user logs on it discontects other users who have to repair connection to log back on.  It's very annoying.  I tried to download the updated firmware but when I try to open it a message pops up telling me that it is a .bin file and can't be opened.  The original disc I recieved with the router is gone and this is a new computer so I can't load it on to this computer and I can't find it on Lynksys website.  Anyone have an idea what I can do to solve this problem

You have the firmware file already to go.  Start your update by reading here.

  • BEFW11S4 wireless connection lost after reboot / sleeping

I am using the linksys wireless router BEFW11S4 version 4, firmware version 1.5, to connnect two winXP computers, one a desktop (wired) and one a laptop (wireless).
The wireless connection was created using the EasyLink Advisor software (support.linksys.com).  The wireless connection made by this software to my laptop has no signal strength problems.  A wired connection to my laptop also has no problems.
However, if a wireless connection is made, it is broken when my laptop is restarted or sleeps (power saving mode).  The sysTray indicates a wireless connection that has "limited or no connectivity".  I cannot browse the internet.  The EasyLink advisor automatically detects a problem and prompts ot repair it.  Though after a few steps the EasyLink Advisor indicates that a "wireless connection failed to be made", the sysTray shows a healthy connection, and it becomes possible to browse at this point.
I'm hoping to make a connection that doesn't need to be re-established every time I leave my computer.  Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

Carrot, thanks very much for your message. I tried updating the "firmware" -- is that what you meant by drivers?
By following the instructions at http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4030&lid=7771778881B05,
I upgraded the firmware which involved performing a factory reset on the router, and re-establishing the network using the EasyLink Advisor.
All of the steps were carried out easily according to the instructions and there were no hitches or exceptions. The wireless connection made was strong and usable. At this time I added my second (desktop) computer which has a wired connection, by following the "add another computer" wizard in EasyLink Advisor.
This completed the re-setup of my network with new firmware.
I then restarted my wireless laptop, and, unfortunately, the connection was lost, as usual.
    any other suggestions?
    Thanks again!

  • Wireless showing it is working but kindle will not connect

I have a linksys wireless router BEFW11S4 model. It seems to be working fine. I received a Kindle for Xmas. When I enter the home wireless connection encryption key for my Linksys router in the Kindle, it does not connect. I am wondering if there is some other password to my router I do not know about. Can someone advise me how to proceed? Thanks for your help.

There are three (3) important wireless settings on your Linksys router that you will need to allow devices to connect to your wireless network:
    • Wireless network name (SSID)
    • Wireless security mode
    • Security key
Here is the link for checking the wireless settings on a router: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=3698&userrole=Linksy...

  • Linksys befw11s4

I am trying to figure out if I can use an Airport Express (the $99 dollar thing) with my wireless Linksys befw11s4 to stream music from itunes in my Windows XP Pro laptop. I cant seem to find a strait answer on the web. I am not sure if it is becuase the Linksys rounter is old or what. itunes, linksys, and xp are all so popular someone must have figured out how to do this. I spoke to someone at the apple store who said it could be done but he did not know how. I am looking for some relitivly clear instructions.
Maybe I am searching for the wrong thing terms but cant seem to figure out it it is possible and how to do it with this set up. I dont know why it is not as easy as conecting the linksys router to the airport router with a cat5 cable and then the airport router to my stero.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Do I need to log into my linksys router and do anything?
    No
2)It only allows computers with listed MAC addresses.
OK, you will need to make a change. The best solution is to disable this feature since it offers no real security. If you don't want to do that, you must add the MAC address of the wireless interface of the AX to that list.
3)does not broadcast its name (i thnk this is called SSID).
This doesn't have to change. However you should be aware that this offers no security. The SSID is still broadcast between the base station and any connected clients. Therefore it only takes a few seconds to find the SSID and access your network.
Sometimes this option does cause problems with wireless connections.
If you want to secure your network, forget about hiding the SSID and MAC address filtering. Use WPA2 or WPA with a non-dictionary password... if your wireless devices support it.

  • BEFW11S4 v4 IP vanished from Mac and will not reconnect despite successful ping

I suddenly can not connect to the internet wirelessly with BEFW11S4 v4.  I've restarted all devices gone into the networking tool and pinged the router after I manually typed in the IP.  However, under System Preferences, Network...the router IP will not show up.  Any suggestions?

If you have set your MAC computer to use static ip and when you ping router are you getting an replys from router. You can remove the static ip from your mac computer and set it to DHCP and check whats the IP address you are getting it from router. And make the connections which you have made are Modem to Router Internet Port and Computer to Router Ethernet Port 1 and after this try to Ping router and see if you are getting any reply from your Router.

  • BEFW11S4 Cutting out! Help?

Recently, I took a stab at hooking my Xbox 360 into the wireless network, but ran into a few problems. They looked like simple setting adjustments, nothing that would crash the network, I thought. The whole thing crapped out. The two computers we use wouldn't pick up the signal, nor would the Xbox. After some tinkering, the network's back up, everyone's connected, and the Xbox is wallowing in a pool of sultry unproductivity.
For reference, the devices on the network are:
    1. Powerbook G4, running 10.4.11
    2. A Toshiba (I think), running Vista
    3. & the Xbox 360
Also, the router is a Wireless-B, BEFW11S4, with firmware 1.52.02.
However, the signal drops out anywhere from 1 - 4 times a day. I have to unplug it each time to get it back up and going. Now, I know how to access the settings page and all that noise, but once inside, most of it is Greek to me.
So, any ideas? It's killing me to open up my computer and have it tell me, "No, get your **bleep** (haha! auto-edit!) up and reset the router. Then you can waste time."
    Thanks in advance.

May be you can do, when you Reflash the Firmware on your router, then you can login toyour router setup page, and change the wireless settings of your router.
    Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the  Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
