Wireless BEFW11S4 ver2

this router worked perfectly wired to a pc and good wireless connection for 3 laptops. then no signal. i have dsl from modem to pc but when i plug in (new) cable from router to pc the internet connection is dropped and there is no signal. therefore i cannot get an internet connection to the router to do any resets. the WLAN Link light is not lit and I cannot re-set the router. I do not have the set-up cd. any ideas or is this toast?

Hi
Yup if you can go online with the modem try this link and download the .bin file for your router (select the exact model & version no.) Try this link www.linksys.com/download Go to the router setup page 192.168.1.1 Leave the username blank and type admin for the password.
Just helping out...

  • BEFW11S4,ver2 - connection problems through wireless routers

I have one desktop, running 2000, connected to the BEFW11S4, via ethernet. I have another desktop, running XP, connected via ethernet. I have one laptop running XP, connected wirelessly to the router. And I have another laptop running Vista connected wirelessly to the router. I have set them all up on the same network, to get IPs automatically. The router has IP 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0. Computer 1(1st desktop) is 192.168.1.100, Computer 2 (2nd desktop) is 192.168.1.101, laptop 1 is 192.168.1.102, and the last laptop is .103, all on the same subnet as the router.
I can get to the internet from all computers
All computers can ping the router, 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.100 can ping the router, but none of the other 3 computers.
192.168.1.101 can ping the router, and the other desktop (.100), but not the two laptops
192.168.1.102 can ping the router, and the first desktop (.100), but not the .101 or .103
192.168.1.103 can ping the router, and the first desktop, (.100), but not the .101 or .102 IPs
I have network and file sharing enabled on all four computers, and they all show up in my "HOME" network, in My network places, on all four computers.
I have two printers connected to the 2nd desktop, (.101), with printer sharing enabled on both of them, yet I cannot get to either printer from any of the machines...which make sense, since I can't ping them...but, doesn't make sense, since the computer their connected to shows up in my network...(may try hooking one or both printers to the .100 machine tomorrow and see if that works.
I had it working before, but I think I had to set IP addresses manually in each machine, and it had to be a different network than the default 192.168.1.0 network. I haven't tried that again, (I'm getting burntout with everything I have tried).
Whats the problem? Do I have to set static routes in each machine? I wouldn't think I would have to since they are all on the same local network, and all on the same workgroup.
I had the same problem setting up a two machine network at my wifes daycare as well. The desktop machine is running XP, the laptop is running Vista. Both machines on the same network, and workgroup, with file file and printer sharing on, but I can't get the laptop to connect to the desktop printer. What do I need to do that I am not doing right now?

as I said in the 1st post, I have file and printer sharing turned on in all the machines already. and I have doublechecked it twice, and reset it twice on all machines.  Tonight I was finally able to ping all the machines, and print to both machines, but only after I set the IP address in both desktops manually to a 192.168.5.0 network.  I left the two laptops that connect wirelessly to assign ip automatically, and restarted all the computers again, and then I was able to ping all machines, from all machines, and get to the two printers.
If I manually change both desktops back to the default 192.168.1.0 network, and follow the same restart procedure, they don't work.  doesn't make any sense...

  • How to configure BEFW11S4 Ver2 so PC's get DHCP off my Server?

Please help me configure my router. I have disabled the DCHP and set the function to "Router". I want my wired and wireless PC's to get their DHCP off of my Server, but they can't seem to find the DHCP server and can't get an address and can't access the network.
    Thanks, Bruce

Good day, The modem is connected to PIX firewall router then to the server. The WAN side of the BEFW11S4 is connected to Dell PowerConnect Switch which is connected the to server. The PC is connected to the LAN side of the BEFW11S4. If it helps, when I disable the DHCP on the BEFW11S4, the PC appears to pull an IP off of the cable modem 169.254. series. It can't find the DHCP on the server and issue an IP 10.0. series. Thanks for your help. Bruce

  • BEFW11S4 Ver2

I use 2 notebooks and 1 desktop through my Linksys wireless router. I recently changed from an "Open" forum to a WEP secured network.
The desktop is using the system wired...No problems
1 notebook is using both wired/wireless without any problems.
the 2nd notebook works fine wired, but really isn't working wireless.
When using the 2nd notebook wireless. The web pages can take minutes to load, or just time out. Going back to wired...it is fast as hell.
What can I do to fix the wireless issue on the 2nd notebook?
    thanks

I think you need to remove the preferred networks from this laptop’s Wireless Network Connection Properties/wireless. Add a new network with correct SSID and WEP key, it should connect.

  • Cascade Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router to a Linksys EZSX16W switch....

I tried to cascade a wireless BEFW11S4 router to a EZSX16W switch but I can't get it to work. When I first connect it goes online for about 1 minute then after that nothing. I loose my internet wan connection. I connected the uplink on my router to the number 1 port on the switch. My modem connection is on the wan port on the router. Plugged everything in and it goes for about 1 minute then I loose connection. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this working....THANKS

No you don't need to change any settings on your router. The First thing which you can check when you connect the Modem to the Linksys Router and then your Computers without using the Switch are you able to go Online and check if you are getting Disconnected or not.
Modem - Router - Computer ..... and check the Internet Connection.
If your Computers are able to go online, Then you need to connect the Ethernet cable from the LAN Port 1 of the Linksys Router to the LAN Port No.1 on the Switch, Then connect your Computer to the LAN Port 2 of the Switch.  Once you are done with these connections.. Then you need Unplug the Power from Switch, Router and Modem.. Wait for 30seconds and then first plug the power to the Modem... Wait till all the lights are Solid then plug the power to the Linksys Router and then to your Switch.
Now check if you are Online from the Computer connected to the Switch.

  • Using BEFW11S4 as a 4-port wired switch

Hello, I have two wireless BEFW11S4 routers, both in working order. One is set up as a wireless router. I need more hardwired network ports and would like to use my second BEFW11S4 router as a simple switch (instead of purchasing another piece of hardware...). I've played around with this a bit and couldn't get it to work. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks.

If wireless is disable .... you can use WIRELESS MAC FILTER settings under router setup ....
Access setup page of router .... click on Wireless tab & go to Wireless MAC address filter sub-tab ..... Click on Enable .... & there would be two options either Prevent or Permit .... under wireless Client List tab you can check the number of wireless devices useing DHCP Ip address from the router ....
So use the the MAC address of the wireless devices to either prevent or permit the internet Access ...

  • BEFW11s4 and Mac IP packet loss

I have had a Linksys Wireless BEFW11s4 wireless router. It has worked fine with my Windows boxes. I just got an iMAC and with some minor problems I got it connected to the wireless network. I am using WEP and not broadcasting the SSID. I have the iMAC connected with full signal strength. I obtained a DHCP address from my DHCP server. However, when I try to ping items both on my wireless network and on the Internet I am having a lot of packet loss. Any ideas? I did not see a firmware upgrade for this model.........
    Thanks!

Hi, connect one of your Pc to the router and log into the setup page of the router by http://192.168.1.1 the username is blank and the password is admin. You will see an advanced tab on the right hand side top.
Under the Advanced tab you will the wireless tab. On this screen lower the Beacon to 75 > Rts Threshold to 2392 and the Fragmentation Threshold to 2306.
If this still does not works then on the setup page under the Help tab you will find an option to upgrade the Firmware for the router. And you can find the firmware on the www.linksys.com/download site.

  • Limited connectivity when using WEP

I have a BEFW11S4 ver2.  When I connect using my Compaq nc6000 with XP SP2 and no WEP, everything works fine.  As soon as I set the WEP key, it connects, but says it has "limited or no connectivity".  I tried downloading the patch from Microsoft but that did not work.  So I used a Cisco network adapter (instead of the built in one) and it worked.  Summary
    Works:
    - no WEP
    - WEP enabled using Cisco card
    Does not work:
    - WEP using built in wireless
I want to connect using my built in wireless (like I do everywhere else except for my home) and still keep my system locked down with WEP.
    Any ideas?

Are you sure you enter the WEP key and not the passphrase? You have to enter the WEP key which is generated from the passphrase in the router. Choose Key 1 in the router and make sure it is configured as transmit key as well. Enter the 10 or 26 hexadecimals in the computer.
Sidenote: WEP can be cracked within a few minutes. You should not use it anymore unless absolutely necessary. Use WPA or WPA2 with a pre-shared key instead. (called WPA2 Personal or WPA2-PSK). Enter a good strong longer passphrase for WPA2 or WPA. Unlike WEP with WPA and WPA2 the passphrase is the key you have to enter on the computer.

Why don't you try disconnecting your Internet connection.  This may delay things enough that you can stop the email in its tracks.

  • Help me please ASAP

Hi we've had a lynksys wireless BEFW11S4 for some time. The computer im on at the moment and our laptop are running fine wireless, but we now have another computer which doesn't have a wireless network card, but ive connected directly to the router and it still doesn't work. Ive tried to set up a new connection to o avail what am i doing wrong. Also tried connecting to a small home network and the computer doesn't even register as its own workgroup computer? That might not make sence but if it does please help.

make sure that when you connect your pc to the router, the correct port on the router will lit up. if not, try changing cables. if it lights up, check your IP address. do it by going the DOS prompt (start>>run>>type "cmd" or "command" then click ok). on the dos window, type "ipconfig". you should get an IP address with the range of "192.168.1.xx". if not, reply again to this thread.

  • All Linksys equipment stopped working! But have internet with NON LinkSYS equipment

My setup is eccentric but has worked for very long. It stopped working Friday. Let me first say there is a reason why I set it up this way. The reason for my setup is based on location of various IP equipment and when I originally purchased the equipment (in case you are wondering why I didn't go a different route). All routers and network card/devices are Linksys. The only non LinkSYS device is a Netgear Print server and 1 PCI card installed on a 2nd PC.
Here is my setup: From a high speed modem, into a wireless BEFW11S4 (4 port router). Port 1 unused. Port 2 to a second wired router, (for DIRECTV VOD and future VUDU) on the other side of house. Port 3 to a local PC. Port 4 to wireless router WRT54G on the far end of house (I used one of the ports not the WAN connection). Wireless is active for both routers. DHCP is disabled except for main basement router. I treated all routers beyond basement one as gateways per say.
My problem: I have several PC's with wireless cards/ devices. Only one working is 1 XP laptop Dell, as noted below (non Linksys) and does so wirelessly and also with a wired connection. The Directv also works from wired router (2nd in line). The Wii also works properly from either wireless router. Of course my PC to the first router also sees the internet. All locations see both routers with 80+% signal. My house is small, but do to wiring limitations, this is the best solution to get internet.
MY PC setups, models given are Linksys except as stated:
1 XP PC w/WUSB54G (USB card)
1 2000 Pro w/ Netgear WG311 (PCI card) Very old PC and does not see internet, it does search and find both routers with high signal. Internet has worked in the past, although not used for some time. I can possibly assume it just does not work or may also be related to this issue.
1 XP Dell with internal wireless (working fine!) Will work with either wireless router and also communicates with print server successfully.
    1 2000 Pro w/WPC11 PCMCIA card
1 XP with Linksys PCI card (don't have model number handy)
I also changed ports of the wired equipment to verify it wasn't a bad port. I have internet connectivity on non Linksys equipment. Some of the computers I use daily, the others have not been turned on in a very long time. After problem arose, I decided to check these computers too. I have not made any changes to the setup. As stated I came home and noticed no internet and went to troubleshoot issue. I have used the Linksys software on all products listed to setup the network.(Original disks that came with each equipment) It will show it can see the routers, but shows NO internet connectivity, but all show it sees either router, but does not see the internet. I must stress that I have not altered any of the setup, it just stopped without warning.
At first I assumed it may just be the wire to one router. (The WRT45G). I have also unplugged all equipment, renewed IP, restarted PC, and also repowered modem. What is bothering me is that the DELL is working fine, including being able to print, the Wii is fine and talks out, and I can renew IP and download VOD from the second wired router and DIRECTV reciever. I also assumed that maybe it was an issue with a new Microsoft patch but a few of the PC's have not been on in months, well before this problem arose. Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy post. I wanted to be as complete as possible. Any suggestions or ideas is appreciated. I have not found any solution on this forum or off of the internet.
NOTE: I also reinstalled software to 2 PC's including reentering my WEP. This has not solved issue either. Problem remains the same. I have also checked internet properties and network configs (on those PCs) although I cannot imagine every PC has changed itself.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It does not seem to be an adapter or any of your computer's issue, from what you have described I would assume that your router is experiencing some connectivity issues...You should reset both your router's and then re-configure them both...
As you explained that one computer to the first router connects to internet, you may download the first router's firmware and upgrade it...You may download the firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Similarly upgrade your second router and upgrade it's firmware...I think after this you should be able to get connection on all the computers...

  • Port forwarding - logging in

When i try to open some ports to forward them to my computer, the router asks me for username and password again, allthough i allready have logged in in the first place (otherwise I wouldn't be able to reach the port forwarding page anyway). I've seenthe same strange behaviour in other pages of the routers setup site. By the way: I wasn't able to upgrade the firmware too...
My router is a wireless BEFW11S4, i have tryed with both Internet Explorer 7 and the latest Firefox, with and without firewall and nothing happens.
Can anyone help? Never mind the firware upgrade, but the prot forwarding problem really nags me!
    Thanks in advance

go to www.linksys.com/download and enter befw11s4 .. select the hardware version as that on the router unit ..download the firmware ..
go to ftp.linksys.com/pub/network and download the tftp.exe file .. run it .. here, the server is router's ip add , password is router's ip add...browse the firmware file and click upgrade .. after the firmware upgrade , reset the router and do a power cycle... reconfigure the router

  • Wireless B Broadband Router (BEFW11S4) connects for only about 5 mins at a time

I have Wireless B Broadband Router (BEFW11S4). Worked fine for about 2 years. I've had a HP Pavilion for about a year now using the wireless and also have a desktop I use on it (wired). About a month ago the speed seemed to be lagging a little and the router was never secured with a password, so I changed that and added a password. Ever since then the laptop will not stay connected for more than about 5 mins. I have gone back and removed the password protect feature, but still have the problem. It has a problem connecting to the router. The signal bars always seem to be full, but still can't connect. I've tryed reseting the router, unpluging everything, etc and can't get it to have a steady connection like before. Sometimes I can connect to the internet even when it says "Not connected" in the wireless network connection 2 screen. I've tried to search and find a similar problem, but was surprised to not be able to find one. Any insight will help.
    Thanks,
    Lman

Thanks for the suggestions Wizzard. Although I did not know what all that stuff does, it didn't seem to help. I didn't not upgrade the firmware because there didn't seem to be any upgrades since 2003, before I bought it. Any other suggestions from anybody? Could anybody make an educated guess to whether it's the router or the laptop?
    Thanks,
    Lman

I have been going around and around, trying to figure this out and nothing seems to be working.  Does anyone know exactly what I am supposed to do, step by step, for opening up a port (or a series of them) on a BEFW11S4 V4 Wireless-B system?
