Wireless Bridge needed. Will it work ?

Hi,
I need to run connectivity between two racks in a datacentre (about 10 metres apart). About 15Mbps b/width needed.
I have installed a CAT5e cable between the two racks (with two redundant switch-pairs in each). Only thing is, if that cross connect cable gets cut or the switches go down, I have no second path.
I need a second route:
I am thinking about running a couple of wireless bridges between the racks (and utilize Rapid Spanning Tree to "block"  the wireless route). All done via Layer2.
1) I assume my design with RSTP would work ?
2) Despite both antenni's being inclosed in metal racks, I am hoping the signal strenth would be strong enough across a 10 metre distance.
(bare in mind it's a data centre with lots of metal)
3) Any suggestions on products, this need to do this on a budget
Many Thanks for reading.
Hope someone can help.
Kind Regards
Matt

Thanks for the response.
Not possible: I cannot run a second cable.
I am hoping 2x Cisco WET200 bridged will do the job, they are cheap (approx £80 each)
If it works it will be a nice reduundant layer2 path
Regards
Matt

  • Need Help...my wireless airport express will not work with my update of snow leopard

after installing snow leopard on my macbook pro my airport express will not work...or will connect only for a minute at a time.

If you mean by "airport express" the square airport router you plug in and has a usb port then run the Airport Utility located in your Utilities folder to set it up again. If AU doesn't see it you may need to do a re-set of the AE.

  • Bridge icons will NOT work on Playbook

Downloaded Bridge on my 9700 and Playbook. It shows up but can't open any of the applications - the icons are there (messages, contacts, bridge browser, calendar, BBm, memopad, tasks, bridge files) but cannot open them!!!
I uninstalled and reinstalled the bridge app on the phone and that still didn't work. I am running the new OS 2 version if that makes a difference?
I can SEE four email messages right on the Playbook screen waiting for me,  but I just can't access them via the Playbook......... any suggestions???

you can revert back to OS 1 after 24 hours of registering.
you need to debrick to do it.
First I would like you to do a Back Up of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software.
This can be downloaded for free from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
After the Back Up is complete I need you to unplug your PlayBook and then push and hold down the Power Button until the unit Force Powers Off.
Now, while Desktop Software is still open on your computer and the PlayBook Powered Off, Connect the PlayBook to your computer.
You should see and error screen from Desktop Software pop up that has the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
    QUICKLY choose the Update option.
This will erase all the information off of your PlayBook and Re-Write the Software back onto it. Once it's complete your PlayBook will need to go back through the setup wizard, and you can then perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your information. The only thing that won't come back after the restore are the apps that you downloaded from App World but they can be easily Re-Installed using the My World feature in App World.

  • Lacie network external drive + AEBS + AEX= wireless bliss?  Will this work?

    Hey everyone,
(Just to get it out of the way, I know you can't use the USB ports on the base stations for external Harddrives) Here's what I'm trying to do. I'd like to beable to have a stand alone wireless external Network harddrive (shown here http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10592 ) to store all of my media and music, and at the same time beable to stream that music wirelessly to a speaker system. Yeah, I know transfer speeds will be slow and I know I could buy a Mac Mini to do this, but I don't mind the slow speed and a Mac Mini is out of my budget range right now (and I'd kinda like to wait for the Intel version )
Okay, well I had thought all of this through with the idea that I could use the Lacie network drive wired (through ethernet cable) to my Airport Extreme Base Station which would then be wired to my airport express. Then the fatal flaw hit me. No port to connect internet access.
So that was my original idea, here are my backup ideas. I was hoping you guys might beable to give me feedback on what might work best and what won't.
First idea: Use my relatively old Netgear Wireless router (shown here http://www.netgear.com/products/details/WGR614.php) hook ethernet and the Lacie HD into that, send a cable over to the airport express, disable wireless on the Netgear and have the airport express handle all wireless activity. What do you guys think? Could I use my powerbook as the hub where I could choose a song on itunes and it would find it on the wireless HD and stream it to the wireless speakers through the Express?
Second idea: Hook the Lacie HD into the Airport Express, hook the ethernet into the Airport Extreme and set them up using the WDS system in the admin utility. The Extreme would be the Main and the express would be the satellite. Do you think this would work?
Last idea: Hook the Lacie HD and the ethernet into the Airport Extreme, and have the airport express set up with WDS again as a satellite just to stream music and to print. Close to just the reverse of the second idea. Do you think this might work better?
And of course there is always, just getting really frustrated and saying forget the whole thing lol.
Thanks for anyones input here. I really appreciate it. I really think this could turn out to be very helpful to a lot of people if it works. I've looked everywhere for a good solution for a stand alone wireless media hub + wireless music streaming and only came up with lots of people asking questions and no one having a solid answer. So hopefully we can work out something that really works for everyone on this great forum.
    Matthew

Have you had any success with this?
I have a powerbook, Imac, and a Lacie 500GB and an airport extreme. I am trying to set the network up so that both my powerbook and Imac can connect to the Lacie wirelessly.

  • Boot camp will not recognize wireless keyboard/mouse - will they work with a 32bit version of Windows?

I have a new iMac 21.5" - 4GB ram, 3.60 GZ processor.  Installed bootcamp partition with Win 7 Pro 64 bit - it was sealed box.  Could not get it to recognize the bluetooth keyboard/mouse that came with the unit last Thursday.
From page 5 of the instructions, "What You Need" - The Keyboard and mouse or trackpad that came with your computer. (if they are not available use a USB keyboard and mouse.)
I did follow all the instructions for getting the drivers installed.  Went to all sources of info on the subject from Apple support, internet discussions and forums.  It seems that it is a common and seemingly unsolveable problem that Apple does not yet have a solution for.
The question - will the 32 bit Windows 7 Pro have the same problem?
    BruceM

You need 3.1 or better yet the drivers from Lion and Boot Camp 4.0
BC 2.x was only for Vista and XP
You don't actually "run" Boot Camp 2.x as much as partition with the Assistant, and install motherboard support drivers to Windows.
"I am USING Boot Camp 2.x"
    You're running Windows -- natively.

  • How do i use wrt55ag + wap55ag as a wireless bridge?

i hope this can be done. i've been searching the forums, but don't seem to have found what i'm looking for. i have a wrt55ag v2 w/1.79 firmware. this is connected to the modem for the internet and has the network on this floor connected. i now need to add a network on another floor. there isn't a way to wire it to here. i was under the impression that a wap55ag would do the trick. however after getting it (wap55ag v2 firmware 1.1), i cannot get the two to talk to each other. the wap is using an address withing the router's range. wireless-a settings are the same on both devices. wap is set for static ip addresses. default gateway is set for the ip of the wireless router. i've tried making the ssid the same and different for the devices. still no connection between the two. since i recently purchased the wap, it can go back. so the primary thing would be making the 2nd network connect wirelessly to the wrt55ag.
    any help would be appreciated.
well, you go have fun with that.

hi...if you want to use the AP as a wireless bridge it would only work with another AP...if you want it to use it in wireless repeater mode , it would work with either wrt55ag or wap55ag ..

  • Need wireless bridge + NAT.. help?

I have a wired device that I want to bridge to our network using our existing wireless network (wireless G).  Unfortunately, this device is stuck for the time being using a 192.168.0 address while the rest of our network uses 192.168.4. So, we need to NAT that 192.168.0 address to a 192.168.4 address.
Is there a Linksys device that can do this?
The ultimate goal is to allow connection to this device from a system on the Internet.  I would forward a port in our Internet router/firewall  to the NATed address of the wired device in question.

It will not work this way and no linksys device have this feature. The only option is to convert your whole network to 192.168.0.X  range.

Any idea why is Bridge latest version not working when trying to open it in Photoshop CC 2014 ? (French version) ? When trying, Creative Cloud app will open to ask if I want to download newest version, which I did numerous times now.

    Hi Eric,
Here's how a similar problem was resolved between PS and BR.
The issue was confirmed by ChunXiaYang at Adobe staff and solution put in the forum discussion on June 19 (no. 13). Here's a copy:
I have confirmed that this is a known issue before release. And the workaround is to uninstall and reinstall PS 2014. Then Bridge can be launched by selecting 'Browse in Bridge' in PS2014.
Please try the installation, and let me know whether it works. Thanks!
It woks just fine since I unistalled and reinstalled PS 2014.

I did this with a fresh install of the entire CC package. As soon as the CC packages updated, CC Bridge broke. Unistalled CC PS, reinstalled again, CC Bridge works, but CC PS updates itself again, and breaks CC Bridge.
You know... The whole move to CC has been a massive cluster... I've struggled with the CC packages for my entire subscription year, and now I'm 1.5 month away from needing to throw down another $720 for no reason what-so-ever, just so we can Beta test your really screwed up subscription services.

  • Wireless key will not work

I just moved my mac mini to my new apartment and my wireless keyboard will not work. My man mini model is A1103. The problem is that I need to type in a password to get on my mac to get to the bluetooth config screen. So I'm stuck at the login screen with a keyboard that just blinks. Its also my TV so im goin nuts. PLZ help.

If you know someone with an USB keyboard, borrow it and use it to input the password. It doesn't need to have been made by Apple or designed to be used with a Mac.

  • Need help setting up WRT54G as wireless bridge/repeater

I currently use a WRT54GS as a wireless router.  It is located downstairs and can't be moved.  I have a few devices upstairs that can't connect to the router because of a weak signal.  I can not run a cable upstairs and have a second WRT54G router that I'd like to use as a wireless access point.  Can I configure it to work as a wireless bridge or repeater?  If so, will the 4 LAN ports work in addition to the wireless ones?

No.  You cannot connect the two routers wirelessly, at least not with Linksys firmware.  Perhaps there is third party firmware that will convert the WRT54G to a wireless bridge, but this will void your Linksys warranty.
Another option is to add high gain antennas, such as the Linksys HGA7T, to your WRT54GS.   Also, try to align the router and wireless adapter antennas so that they are parallel to each other, but perpendicular to the line between them  -  this should maximize your signal.

  • Need Help using WRT54GL as Wireless Bridge for Xbox

    Hi.
I need help configuring my WRT54GL as a wireless bridge for my xbox.
I have a Billion BiPAC 7404VGO currently in service as my main router/modem. i.e. I have my ADSL connection and PC connected to this. I also connect to this with a laptop.
I have an original xbox at the other end of the house (cat5 NOT an option).
Basically I want to connect my xbox to the rest of network. I have a WRT54GL I can use for this. I just dont know how to set it up.
The WRT54GL has Firmware Version: v4.30.7 (out of the box).
My Wireless network is using WPA.
I have a VPN setup through to work via the Billion.
The idea is to stream media from my PC to the xbox (media centre).
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Katman

A wireless router is a device which requires its own wired internet connection. A wireless router is not a wireless access point like the Linksys WAPs. A wireless router does not connect wireless to other wireless routers/APs with standard Linksys firmware. With Linksys firmware you need a WAP54G or similar. The WAPs support wireless bridging and repeater mode.
If you already have a WRT54GL then you have to install a 3rd party firmware which adds wireless bridging capabilities. Read the wikipedia article on "WRT54G" for information about which WRT models support 3rd party firmware and an overview of projects and links.
Remember, however, that you may brick your router if you install a 3rd party firmware incorrectly and you probably void the warranty if you install 3rd party firmware (it is even possible to find out after you restore the original Linksys firmware if you don't clear the NVRAM before).

want to buy airport extreme, am using mountain lion.  Will this work ?  also,  my house is 5,500 square feet all on one floor.  Do I need an extender and which one?

...  If I purchase an express to extend is it hard to configure as an extender?
No, AirPort Utility prompts you with step-by-step questions and makes configuration simple.
The Express and Extreme have the same transmitter power specifications, so I suggest the $99 Express as an extender, should you need one. Beware that you cannot add a second Express to wirelessly extend the network any further - as the following excerpt from Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations explains:
    Extended network range considerations
In the above example the primary Wi-Fi base station ➊ is out of wireless range of the extended Wi-Fi base station ➋, therefore the extended Wi-Fi base station cannot join or extend the wireless network. The extended Wi-Fi base station must be moved to a location that is within Wi-Fi range of the primary Wi-Fi base station.
    Important Note
If another extended Wi-Fi base station ➋ is placed between the primary Wi-Fi base station ➊ and the extended Wi-Fi base station ➌, the extended Wi-Fi base station ➌ will not allow clients to join it. All extended Wi-Fi base stations must be in direct range of the primary Wi-Fi base station.
A "roaming network" that Bob described, in which all base stations are connected with an Ethernet cable, is by far the best alternative.

  • Will the 340 wireless bridge support Leap

Will the 340 point to point wireless bridge authenicate and use Leap if upgraded to the latest software, like the 350 series bridges? The documentation is not clear on this.

    NO,
They run a different operating system and were end of lifed before LEAP.
The documentation is a little vauge on this topic if you are not familar with all of the product range, but what youare looking in the documentation for is.
To run LEAP you will see you need newer than 11.0 firmware.
    The BR340's firmware is 8.x

  • Wireless in JAPAN?! Will AIRPORT work?

    Hey
I will be going to Tokyo for a few months for work, and i'm beginning to worry that nothing will work, LOL. The power adaptor thing is easy, and my phone not working there... I'll just get one in Japan... BUT WHAT ABOUT MY MACBOOK?!
My macbook was bought in Portugal, but I've used it in many European countries without major difficulties... But will it work in Japan? Im especially worried about the wireless/airport. The accomodation site mentions I will need a IEEE 802.11g wireless card...
I would like to know if anyone has ever been to Japan and if airport works? And if not... Do you think I can go to the apple store in Tokyo and kindly ask them to find a way to make it work?
    Thank you

It's unclear whether or not the provider uses 802.11n draft, but I suppose that's not critical.
Your machine should be capable of talking to most wireless networks, but the channel used by the provider may be an issue. US-spec MacBooks are fixed in firmware to channels 1-11. This is apparently a requirement for FCC certification. Your European spec MacBook should be capable of communicating on channels 1-13. Your only problem could be if the Japanese provider uses channel 14, which is legally used for Wi-Fi there.

  • What is a good wireless printer that will work with a macbook and windows laptops?

What is a good wireless printer that will work with a macbook and windows laptops?

Any printer that visibly supports OS X will work fine. My personal recommendation is Brother, followed rather distantly by Canon.
Recently I have grown to favor Brother printers over the others. They are inexpensive, their OS X integration is well-implemented, their consumables are reasonably priced, and their technical support is free forever. If you need to call them and explain that you have a Mac, you will immediately receive competent assistance.
The third and subsequent choices are so far down from those two they're not worth mentioning. I have grown to dislike HP printers, for all the above reasons.
Read user reviews from vendor websites - Amazon is a good place to start, since Amazon lets people write almost anything they want... right, wrong, or completely idiotic.
Read the reviews on the respective manufacturers' websites as well, but consider the likelihood of them deleting negative reviews.
Process all those user reviews employing your own common sense, and draw your own conclusions.
Consider AirPrint compatibility for future needs. Those features add very little to the price over a USB - only or wireless printer. Understand that not all wireless printers are AirPrint compatible - AirPrint must be specifically indicated. Choose among this list: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
After OS X compatibility, the next consideration should be the cost of consumables. Laser printers are cheaper than inkjets in that regard.
Here is a list of AirPrint compatible Brother printers and multifunction devices
