Wireless card for dualcore power macs

How come if I were to order a Dual core 2.3 GHz Power Mac from the Apple store with a wireless/bluetooth adapter, it would ship in 3 to 5 days, but when I bought the same system from an Apple retail store a month ago, I am still unable to get the wireless/bluetooth adapter?
While I'm asking questions, why were the salespeople at the Apple store so poorly-informed about a new product that they sold me the wireless and bluetooth adapters for the older version of the G5 and only figured out their mistake when trying to perform the install? Also, why am I now unable to return my still shrinkwrapped Airport Express, which is useless to me now? And does Apple really expect people to call retail stores 2x a week to find out when they might finally get a part in so that I can drag my mac in to have them install it because it's "not a user serviceable part"?
Glad to see Apple is now competing with the larger computer companies on customer satisfaction...

When I got my Quad from the refurb store apple told me the extreme card would be compatible, I still double checked it with apple technical support. When it arrived I had everything purchased, set up and ready to go (dual monitors, 4 gig ram, express BS and 2x AP extreme (1 in the mac downstairs). Then I found out I needed the kit.
I too live miles away from the nearest apple engineer, it's a 320 mile round trip to get the upgrade installed. When I told apple how disapponted I was they insisted on checking the telephone recordings.
After 7 days of waiting a manager calls to tell me "the salesman hadn't said it would come pre-installed as the AP/BT upgrade" (I could have told him that) and when I explained the situation he offered me a refund. I asked him what I would do with the opened 4 gig of 533 ram, the extreme card, the monitors and the express BS. He said he was sure I could find some machine to put the ram in. Very understanding - not.
As a result I need an external wireless alternative and seeing as I'm just wasting my time with apple I wandered if anyone has any tried and tested recommendations (baring in mind I don't want to invalidate my warranty).

  • Where can I purchase a runway card for a power mac G5 A1177 ?

I am searching for a runway card for a power mac G5 A1177 thats cheap.

"Where" questions are more easlily answered if you tell us your approximate geographic loation. That way you won't get links to vendors who cannot ship to your location.
That said, here is a US vendor:

"Chea" is relative. Google "runway card" and you'll get  a lot of hits for price comparision.

  • Netgear PCI Wireless Card in a Power Mac G4

I have a Netgear PCI Wireless Card MA311 and I'm trying to make it work in my Power Mac G4. Does anyone know of any drivers I can use or any way I can get online with it? An alternate option is the Linksys Wireless-B USB adapter (ver.2.8) that I have around here somewhere.

Generally speaking, if you are planning on buying a PCI wireless card, do make sure that it is Mac compatible. Mac drivers for such cards or for USB wireless adapters can often be difficult or impossible to find.
Another option could be a wireless Ethernet bridge (also known as a gaming adapter) connected to the Ethernet port. These devices (examples include Belkin F5D7330, D-Link DWL-G810, D-Link DWL-G820, Linksys WET54G, Linksys WGA600N and Netgear WGE111) do not normally require special driver software, and can be used under almost any operating system. WPA security may or may not be supported for a certain unit, so study the specifications (a firmware update can solve this in some cases).

  • Which Airport Card for a Power MAC G4 w/400mhz?

    Hello Everyone!
Sorry to be a bother but I'm new to the forum & need some help. I'm currently upgrading my Power Mac G4 w/400 mhz & I'm looking to go wireless. I've been looking for the best product to do this but I've become a bit confused. Did Apple make an airport card for my particular model? When I go into the specs, it shows that the system is airport compatible but I do not know which component to use. Can anyone help me out with this one?
    Thanks,
    Rick

Did Apple make an airport card for my particular model?
That computer takes the original AirPort card or a PCI card or external component which provides wireless access. The AirPort Extreme card is incompatible with it.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
I need a special card for it, because the regular card just won´t fit the slot. Is this true?
    No.
The "special" airport extreme/bluetooth card is only for dual core Late 2005 G5's. Your 1.8ghz G5 can use the Airport Exteme Card M8881LL/A.

  • Airport card for a Power Mac G5 (PowerMac7,2)

I know this has been asked about other Power Mac G5's, but I haven't seen an answer for my particular model. Is there an Airport card that can be installed in my dual processor Power Mac G5, Model: PowerMac7,2, Processor Name: PowerPC 970 (2.2)? If so, which Airport / Airport Extreme cards, and is this something a noob like me could do myself? Thanks so much for your answers.

Hi pcr67, and a warm welcome to the forums!
While you wait for an answer on the Airport card, I can tell you that one of these would likely be cheaper/easier/better...

  • Third party Wireless Card on a Power Mac G5, bipro 1.8 GHz

Does anyone has a definite answer whether or not a TrendNet 403 PI+ PCI card would work or not along with my G5 bipro 1.8 Ghz (beginning 05- OS 10.3.9) ?
I have the same card installed on my B&W, which is recognized as an airport extreme card.
Installed into the G5, it is recognized by the hardware :
System Profiler says on Airport Card "Wireless Card Type : Third Party Wireless Card", but "Current Wireless Network : wireless network not available"
I have the 5 bars on airport icon, but they are grey
When I go to Other network and give the name of my network, it keep saying : "There was an error joining the Airport network".
Any clue why it works into my W&B (G4- 400 Mhz) and not into the G5 ?
    Thank's for any advice

  • Best video card for a Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 GHz

What is the best video card I can upgrade to with my Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 GHz?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi-
The best is probably the one that you can find..... getting hard to find Mac 8x AGP cards.....
Best OEM cards are (were) Radeon 850XT, Radeon X800XT, Geforce 6800 Ultra and Geforce 6800 GT, in order from fastest.
    X800 vs. others
Now, most options are the above, used, or, flashed PC cards. PC cards include the above, but have one faster than even the X850XT- the Geforce 7800 GS.

These instructions are originally in German, but with translation, you should be able to install it:

  • HDMI capture card for my Power mac G5

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a HDMI capture card that could be used in a non-intel G5? or capture via the ethernet port using a HDMI Ethernet extender? I would like to capture uncompress HD footage from my camera.
    My system: 1.8 GHZ DP / PCI - x / 2GB 400 / 160GB / SD / G5200 / 56k
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

No, there is not. HDMI options on capture cards didn't arrive until after MacPros were released and G5s were discontinued. The only capture cards that work on G5's do not offer HDMI inputs. The Intensity series are PCIe only...AJA Kona line with HDMI are PCIe only....Matrox MXO2 line are PCIe and Express34 only. And your G5 has PCI-X slots.
The AJA Kona 2, Kona LH, Decklink HD cards...things you can only find second hand...do not offer HDMI inputs. You are on a machine that was discontinued 4 years ago, HDMI support was not invented yet.

  • Good wireless cards for older Mac Pros

I have a Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz at work that we are trying to get online wirelessly. A couple of months ago, we bought a Hawking Hi-Gain Wireless-N USB Adaptor, which was working fine until a recent update was performed. Since then, the computer crashes almost immediately if the wireless adaptor is plugged in, but runs fine when it is taken out. I am curious if anyone else has run into a similar problem when using a wireless adaptor. I also wanted to know if anyone had a recommendation for a different, reliable wireless card for an older Mac Pro.
    Thanks in advance.

I have almost the exact same situation.
Same system, a d-link wua 1340 usb wireless adaptor.
Worked fine for several weeks or so until i updated to snow leopard.
Now frequent system crashes, grey screen and the box that tells me to use the power button to shut down.
I tried going back to 10.5 and still the same problem.

  • What kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GH

    hi there,
I have for sometime now a "Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5", and recently I have been thinking to get an Airport extreme wireless card with a bluetooth on it, which could work on my machine.
I have already try to deal with apple representatives and Apple sales people to give me a hand on the matter and so far is been a nightmare to approach this guys, tired of wasting time and effort, so that is way I am posting a topic on this section to see if you guys could give a hand on the matter.
All what I would like to know is what kind of wireless card I need for my Power Mac G5 (late 2005) Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (version 10.4.11) and where I could buy one on line to install myself.
This is the mac unit I have.
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5.
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac11,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 4.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 1 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.7f1
    Thanks for you time.

You're welcome. Funny how Apple works isn't it? If it's any consolation, that Airport/Bluetooth card doesn't show up on the Apple U.S. store either. I don't think they ever intended it to be a user installable part, so perhaps that's why they don't offer it for sale. Do you have any Apple Authorized Service providers in your area? I'd think they'd be able to order the card as a replacement part.
Can you give a little more detail or a link to the gadget you're referring to? It sounds like a USB dongle to enable Wi-Fi, but that must be a third party solution, since I don't believe Apple ever offered something like that.

  • I have an older Power Mac G5 Quad, and my video card just went out. I am trying to find a video card that will work for my Power Mac. I have duel screens but I can't seem to find the appropriate video card

I have an older Power Mac G5 Quad, and my video card just went out. I am trying to find a video card that will work for my Power Mac. I have duel screens but I can't seem to find the appropriate video card. The serial number on my computer is: RM620603R6W. Apple won't help me because the computer is older than suggested. Please give me the exact video card that will work best for my computer.

Hi Mike, make sure the card has Mac ROM, or is a PC card with Mac ROMs flashed to it...

  • Where can I find a wireless card for my early 2009 Mac Pro (MB871LL/A, MacPro4,1)?

Where on on earth can I purchase a wireless card for my Mac Pro?
Apple is of no help.  Their "Geniuses" told me that it is impossible for them sell one to me because Apple will not supply wireless cards or memory for previous generation computers.  That is totally absurd.  If I want to get a wireless card for my 2 year young computer I can't? I have to buy a brand new computer with one previously installed. Ridiculous!
Any help or suggestions would be of great value to me.

Well I found what I think is the correct card on B&H.
    Hopefully it works....
