Wireless CATV Possible with EyeTV?

I have an EyeTV 200. Works fine when connected directly to the cable tv outlet. I am thinking about moving my iMac (isight) into a room without a cable tv outlet and no convenient way to string cable for a new one. Does anyone know of a way to wirelessly transmit the CATV signal from an outlet in another room to the EyeTV cable-in connector that will allow me to watch and record TV using the EyeTV built-in tuner and TitanTV guide?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

As much as I disbelieved someone could make something like this, since I'd be worried someone else receiving my signal in another apartment if I lived in an apartment building, causing the cable TV carrier to think I was doing something I shouldn't, I found this website:
http://www.x10.com/products4/google/wirelessvideo_sender_cabletv.html?
Whether it is for real or not, I don't know. If you can find one in a good consumer electronics store, then I'd try it out. But I'd be very skeptical, and cover myself just in case it isn't for real. Sounds too good to be true.

  • Is Airport Wireless printing possible with Officejet 4315

I am thinking of getting one of these Officejet 4315s. I'll be using it as a regular sheet feed fax, wireless not necessary, but will need wireless printing.
On IFelix's Unofficial printer compatibility list with AEBS and AX, the Officejet 4215 is listed, as long as only the older drivers are used (thanks HP for those upgrades); so i'm wondering if the 4315 is just a newer evolution of the 4215 and if it too will print wirelessly with AEBS/AX, whether with old or new HP driver or with HPIJS. Any information or opinions about this?

Hi Judy, I posted this in another thread about using an HP Officejet 4215 but have pasted it below since you might find it useful. I have used my 4215 wirelessly via USB on my Airport since OS 10.2 and it works great. Lost it due to my 10.5 upgrade for a few days but now it's fine again. Best of luck.
The solution to using your HP 4215 (and MANY others) with an Airport (print only, of course) is found here:
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs
You need to install 3 items to make the printer print through the Airport:
    1. hpijs-2.7.10-UB
    2. Foomatic-RIP
    3. ESP Ghostscript
Everything is found or referenced at the above Open Printing link. In fact the hpijs driver will not install at all unless it finds both #2 and #3 so do them first (or try it and find out for yourself ).
It's all explained at the link but here is how I did it:
Installed the 3 items above then go into System Prefs, then Print & Fax, then find and double-click on your printer, select Info, then select Driver, then find the Foomatic/hpijs driver that is recommended for your printer. Voila! Airport printing works again, under 10.5.1 even! Or you could wait for HP to write a new driver...
    Hope this helps. Good luck!

  • How do I upgrade to 10.4 and... is wireless internet possible with eMac?

    Hi all,
thanks for answering my last question about browsers: now using Camino and is way better than anything else...
    So, so more puzzles:
    1) I have 10.3.9 and need to upgrade to 10.4. A friend just told me I can do it for free via updates but I don't believe him as I can't find it. What's the solution?
    2) Is it possible to get wirless net with eMacs? If so, what setting do you use?
    Thanks all!

Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*. For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) (See Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac? ). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.
Also check these web stores: http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=19521 http://www.allmac.com/shop/index.php?cPath=5_10003
Possible Alternative if you are currently using Panther 10.3 – Do a Google search for Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD . It will upgrade your 10.3 to 10.4, but it doesn’t contain the full retail Tiger installer. Should be cheaper than the retail Tiger install DVD.
After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Look at this link Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Installing Software Support Page

You can also download the Tiger Installation and Setup Guide

When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.

I would like to connect my Ipad 2 wirelessly via 3G with a wireless rooter. The Ipad does not have a slot for a card, so it will have to connect to the rooter via bluetooth. Is this possible? If so, where can I buy such a rooter? Many thanks! Ina

I'm not really understanding what you want. You mention all 3 types of connections: wireless, 3G and bluetooth, but I'm not clear on what you want to do. What the router is supposed to do, and why do you think it would need to connect via bluetooth?
I'm thinking you want to buy a Mifi type device that will allow you to connect to a cellular network and then connect the iPad to that device via the Wifi network the Mifi produces.
    Is that so?

  • MacMini as media center with eyeTV

I'm trying to collect some facts and thoughts about the idea of using the MacMini as a media center at home. There seems to be some hard feelings regarding FrontRow 2.0 in Leopard, but I can't see that they would have any greater impact in the set up I'm planning - can you?
    I'd like to...
    ...access my iTunes library
    ...look at iPhoto pics
    ...watch DVDs
    ...watch DIVx, AVI, VIDEO_CD
    ...record TV
...use our old 21 inch 4:3 CRT television + external amp + analog cable (just usual antenna signal)
    I don't have to...
...use the Mini to anything else (like surfing, email)
...5.1 sound or something like that
I'm looking at a MacMini with the Elgato eyeTV 250 plus and a DVI-video adapter.
    A few questions:
    * What about the quality of the recorded video using eyeTV? As VHS or better?
    * Is eyeTV integrated into FrontRow nowadays? I'd like to schedule my recordings that way - as simple as possible.
    * Do I switch channels using eyeTV, or do I still have the ordinary antenna signal to the TV so I can use that remote i I'd like? Perhaps I need to split the antenna signal into two cables - one going to elgato and one to the TV (side by side with the scart from the Mini).

    Hey Goka,
I recently purchased a Mac Mini for this very reason. I've only had it for a few days but here's what I've discovered in answer to your questions:
1.) It will access your iTunes library, including shared libraries over your home network. However, shared libraries currently will not display album art (something many users are frustrated with - I guess previous versions of Front Row did support album art for shared libraries). Hopefully this is an issue Apple will resolve soon in an update. I've written them asking them to address it and many others have as well... you may want to add your 10 cents too. The only trick to the shared libraries is that you have to tell Front Row to look for it each time you boot/wake up your machine (it's a menu item in the Front Row interface called "Sources"). I have yet to experience a stutter on these shared files on our home wireless network.
2.) I haven't tried the iPhoto thing yet but hope to soon. I'll let someone else speak to that... I know it's possible.
3.) I've watched two DVDs right through Front Row. When you have a disc inserted it will become a menu option in Front Row. If you hit menu on your Apple Remote quickly it'll go to the DVD menu with full navigation through your Apple Remote, and if you hit Menu and hold it for a second it'll bring you back to the Front Row menu.
4.) If I understand it correctly theoretically anything you can play in QuickTime you can play in Front Row. I've successfully played some Xvid files so far. However, over our home wireless network larger files were difficult to stream (very stuttery). As a result I just connected an external USB hard drive to the Mac Mini... I can still access and manage the contents over the home network but the files are local to the Mac Mini so they load quickly and play flawlessly. The one trick is to make alias files of your movies (wherever you decide to store them) and place them in your Mac Mini's "Movies" folder (this way they'll show up in your Movies directory in Front Row. I noticed that sometimes accessing things over network required me "connecting" to the computer before opening Front Row on boot/wake up (another reason I opted to store movies locally and manage remotely).
4.) Recording TV... I haven't gotten to this piece yet. I'm hoping someone else can speak to this because this is something I want to do as well. I've been looking at the TVMicro (which comes with TheTube software for $60-90) and the EyeTV (which comes with EyeTV software for $150-200). Both seemed to receive reviews of 4+ stars everywhere I've looked. I wish there was a way to see the software for both in action. My biggest question is can you load the program and navigate (including just regular full screen viewing) via the Apple Remote or provided remote control - I don't want to have to get up and use the keyboard/mouse every time I want to watch TV. From what I've read the software records in either MPEG 1 or MPEG 2 with various quality levels based on what you're looking for. I wish it had H.264 or Divx encoding but I guess you can always do that after the fact. Unfortunately I can't yet speak to how the quality actually looks as I don't have one either. As a fail-safe for old fashioned channel surfing I've thought about using an RF splitter right before it hits the Mac Mini so you can still surf the channels the old way and/or with your Mac Mini (but if you can't do it easily and seamlessly on the Mac Mini I won't buy one).
5.) We're using our 27" CRT TV and the $20 DVI to Video adaptor Apple makes. Looks great to me. Certainly not HD... but neither is our TV. Sounds like we're on the same page... if I'm concerned about 5.1 and HD I'll buy a BR or HD DVD player and disc for optimal quality. I'm trying to keep most of my digital video files at around 1.2GB for movies (this is a 1500 bitrate for Xvid with 2-pass... looks as good as any standard def satellite TV channel I've seen).
Hope you find some of this feedback helpful. I also hope someone else can speak more to the EyeTV and/or MicroTV solutions that are available, how they perform and how you interact with the software.

  • Can I use a Belkin F6D4050 wireless USB adapter with my Airport Extreme?

I received a freebie Belkin wireless adapter a little while back. Am now trying to use it to connect a device to my existing Airport Extreme wireless home network. Am having some problems and wonder if it is my device (I think it should work with the device, though), or possibly with the Airport.
I may already have my answer (...no?), but am a bit illiterate with wireless. My Airport is using WPA2, and is 802.11n. My adapter says it works with WPA2, but only lists 802.11g and 802.11b.
    Any thoughts are appreciated.

I cannot say for sure if the g/b vs n is the cause, but if all other devices like the AE and that one device does not, you go with the odds.  Others will have to chime-in on that.
And I recommend NetGear (not necessarily *above* LinkSys) because my 3-year-old NetGear router has been serving my MBP fine for 3 months ... no glitches.

  • Mini with Eyetv in Media Center software

What Media Center Software Works with Eyetv Hybrid from 2011

Let me correct some info, and add some.  The tuner is correct, but it is the NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS card that was replaced because of the noisy fans.
I also see on HP's website that this particular computer has a BIOS update that is supposed to correct a problem of "no audio with HDMI" for the GeForce 9500 GS card.  I tried downloading and installing it, but the installation was stopped becuase my "system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update."  I have no idea what possible requirements I'm missing, though!
That BIOS update is for Ver 62.94.1F.00.26.  I have no idea what the current version of the BIOS is, and several chats with HP technical support have not helped at all (they haven't even told me how to find the current BIOS version, which seems inexcusable).
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd sure appreciate the help.
    Thanks,

    Hi  sparhk, and welcome.
One of the Lenovo staff who frequents the forum put out a call to help you in a private forum.  I do a little Linux, so I poked into it.  To my amazement my first Google hit was your thread where you indicate you have solved the problem.  (At least, it _looks_ like you...)
May I respectfully suggest that a post back here indicating success would be a nice touch?  That way anyone who passes by looking for help with this issue will have a better chance of finding it.  For posterity, here it is (see post number 25):

  • Is USB Tethering possible with the iPad.

Since wireless Tethering isn't secure, I was considering USB Tethering which is. However, is that possible with the iPad?

    Hi
You can share your tablets mobile data connection with other devices via USB, Bluetooth or by turning your table into portable Wifi hotspot.
Note; this function is only supported by 3G models.
In option Wireless & Networks you can configure and manage this setting
You can tap More to find out the hidden options.
The option Tethering & portable hotspot settings would provide the possibility (USB tehthering) to share the data connection.

  • Wireless printing problems with Asus router RT-N56U and HP8500

Neew MacBookPro with Lion. Also have HP 8500a 909a printer hooked up to an Asus router RT-N56U Google search indicates MANY problems with HP printers being used with wireless Mac, even with Airport. Of course we know HP is one of the worse customer support companies on earth,, so I came here in hopes to find a solution. I updated my mac and firmware for router. The Mac doesn't find any printers wirelessly at all. If I hook up with a cable it works fine.. Thanks

I own the RT-N56U (best router on the market hands-down), along with an HP LaserJet 1320, however it's connected via USB to my computer instead of the router. While it's true that HP don't have a terrific support record for Mac drivers in fairness it may be the Asus router causing the problem; if you Google "Asus RT-N56U" and "mac os x print server", you'll find complaints similar to yours from other users. From what I understand this is partly dependent on your printer and whether it supports network printing, and partly on compliance with the Asus router firmware. I Googled what appears to be a possible solution to configuring the Asus print server, however I haven't yet tested this myself:

Like I wrote on title, I am getting old and it is not easy to see E-mails, news etc. on a I phone! New I phone will not help me for the size.
If possible, everything without calls, I would like to use I Pad as direct unit, and for calls through I Pad over WIFI all calls. If a call as Skype, I would like
to use the I Pad as a monitor. Is this possible?
I found on a side that there is a product for people for better hearing, which can be put into the ears, using WIFI with I Phone.
If this product could be used also for I Pad as a Phone for hearing, and the I watch or I Pad as Microphone, it will be great for old Mac users.
Is this possible with our system know?
I am using Mac since Classic II! Would like to continue with the newest items with the possibility for old person with bad Eyes or Ears.

  • Apple wireless BT keyboard with TEXT MESSAGING?

I know that I can sync the Apple wireless bluetooth keyboard with the my iPhone 4, but I just want to verify that it will work with text messaging, in addition to the usual email, etc. apps. Frankly, that's the main reason I need it. I messed up my elbow from texting so much. I don't want to, but I MUST text a lot, so I figured I'd get the keyboard to save elbow injuries. Sounds silly -- lugging around a wireless keyboard in order to text... but it actually wouldn't be so bad. I do a lot of texting from my house, anyway.
One more thing -- The wireless keyboard can only be paired with one device at a time, right?

The Bluetooth keyboard will work with the messaging application.
I know I always turn the Bluetooth off on the iPhone so when I pull out my keyboard it is a bit of a pain in the ***. Granted I only use it with long emails on the road that would take an hour to write with the keyboard on the iPhone, so it's not too bad. The iPad dock keyboard will also work with the iPhone and iOS4.x so if you need a keyboard and don't want to deal with the Bluetooth than that is an option too, just a thought.
As far as the Bluetooth keyboard goes it can only be paired with one device at a time.
