Wireless CCTV - need to open a port

Hi All;
I have a wireless monitoring system (CCTV) for my home that can be accessed remotely though my IPhone or IPad when I am away.
It works great while I am at home on my wireless network but I cannot get access when on a remote Wi-Fi.
Apple Store here says I need to open a port in my Time Capsule to allow access when I am outside my network.
Anyone have instructions or can step by step it for me?
Thanks in Advance.
Mark

Thanks for the reply William;
I actually contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a step by step instruction including, as you suggested the ports that the cameras use.
Once we get through this Christmas season ... will get it all set up.
Thanks again
Mark

  • Opening a port issue: I Need to open a port in an airport extreme.

I Need to open a port in an airport extreme, but I'm connected through an airport express in bridge mode.  I need to access a specific computer inside my network through that port to be able to use it as a server.  I can't seem to find the correct way to set everything up.  I've tried opening the port and everytime I check it through telnet or any open check tool on the net it keeps saying the port is closed.  I'm stumped.

After digging around it looks like Snow Leopard doesn't use ipfw for opening ports.
Does anyone know how to open ports in Snow Leopard? Apple don't seem to have any info on this - besides the allow incoming connections for certain applications.
Will try WaterRoof and see what happens.
    Cheers

  • Please help, I need to open a port...

    Hello all,
I am a newbie to Solaris, I have the need to open port #36678 on a server running Solaris 8. I am sure it is simple but just do not know where to start, I have ran a netstat -a and it is not listening now.
    Thank you in advance.

So you would launch a program, and it would try to use the port.
Presumably you have some such program in mind?

I have a 2T apple time capsule and router. I bought a Hauppauge Win TV extender which allows TV to be broadcasted on a PC. The program allows for the TV to be streamed on a Mac, Iphone, Ipad. I need to access the router set up options to open a port on the router to allow this program to stream the TV to the Mac and Iphone. I do not know how to access the apple time capsule router to change the settings to open a port on the router. help please.

Firstly you do not need to open ports to stream locally.. there is no port block in local LAN.. only WAN to LAN. So there is a good chance it is not needed at all..
Opening ports on the TC I strongly recommend a v5 airport utility.. you can download one for windows if you don't have a Mac.. iOS version of the utility I am not sure but it will not work to do complex things.
In the v5 utility go to the NAT area, and click on port mappings.
Sorry I don't have a screen shot at the moment of the actual mapping page.. but simply put the IP of the device you want opened and the port.
There are plenty of posts with this info if you google.
But as noted.. this is purely WAN to LAN.. nothing else.

  • RealPlayer says I Need to Open a Port For Chat to Work, Am I doing it Right

I have live feeds for CBS's Big Brother. I'm trying to get on their Chat and I get a Java IOException error, cannot connect to server, etc.
RealPlayer is insisting I have to open port 21 and/or 6667 in my router (AEBS).
I entered 21, 6667 in all 4 port fields. Under Private IP address, I put my computer's number. Under "service". I didn't touch that.
Am I doing this right? Cuz it's still not working for me. I know other Leopard users are able to get into this chat and I think it has something to do with my AEBS. I even loaded the developer version of the latest Java to no avail.
    Suggestions?

Your firewall is off. That's good for now. Make sure that you Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol in Internet/Internet Connections/NAT tab. Also, do you have a static IP on your machine? Or are you getting your IP via DHCP. This info is in the OS System preferences/Network/Advanced? tab. Then click on the TCP/IP settings. To get the ports forwarded correctly you'll need to set a static IP (manual) on your machine. But you'd think in all their wisdom that Real would have NAT enabled chat. Meaning, you should get out with DHCP and NAT enabled. No forwards needed.
Setting a static IP on your machine is relatively easy but affects other things on your network and you have to do a bit of planning to set it up.
    In a nutshell:
Set up an IP address on your machine outside the scope of IP's being distributed by your router.
Map a port that resolves to that specific port.
I think you did it right above but didn't possibly have a static ip to resolve to.
Hopefully I am not confusing you with all this.

  • I need to open specific ports in the firewall - how do you do that?

    Hi There,
I'm trying to setup a web development server on a spare mac mini but I can't figure out how to open ports for the MySQL server under Snow Leopard.
Is there a way to do this? I've set the firewall to allow MAMP to open ports whenever it needs to but when I do a port scan of the Mac mini the MySQL port doesn't show up - SSH, HTTP and VNC do however.
I'm happy to configure it via the Terminal but I can't find any info on how to do this in Snow Leopard as I think it's different from Leopard (based on what I've found online).
    e.g.
    $ ipfw show
    Gives me an error:
    "ipfw: socket: Operation not permitted"
Any help would be much appreciated
    Cheers

         53 UDP and TCP

I just bought an AirPort Extreme.  Now my Belkin @TV will not work    It says server error. Either TPC port 49177 is not forwarded on the router to which @TV is connected.   What can I do to fix this on my AirPort Extreme?

For the basics of how to configure an AirPort Extreme for port forwarding / mapping, please check out the following AirPort User tip.

  • Mech Warrior 4, 1 wired PC, 3 Wireless computers, and opening the ports to all?

Ok, recently MW4 became a free game to the world and I like so many others went and got it. I now have it on 4 computers in my house and we want to go play as a team. We currently play UT2k4 and I have only had to open the ports for it to the IP of my computer since I host the servers for Ventrilo and UT. I now have a person telling me I need to open the ports for MW4 to each IP in my house so that the others can play. What I need to know is if there is a way to open the ports to a range of IP's since everytime I try to open the same ports to different IP's it tells me that the range already exist (not helpful).
The ports in question are 2300-2400 ( I thought of range them by 25 for each IP) and then we have port 47624. Ideas? Should I just trigger the 47624 and  set up the others by 25? I am at a loss on this one.

Note the MW4 lines. Eveidently since Mechwarrior 4 came out there have been issues with trying to run multiple PC's behind a firewall with this game. We need a workable solution to this soon. Eveidently I need to have ports 2300-2400 open to all the computers in my house for them to play online at the same time. I'm failing to understand why this is since we don't need to do this with UT2k4, but I'm no guru.I've tried to split the range up by 25's to all pcs with no luck, only .110 can still connect at eh range 2300-2325. I think the 47624 is only needed to host servers.
What I need is for .110 (wired to be able to both host and play), .111,.112,.113 to be able to play all at the same time! I know no easy task. I really wish that the router could support this type of setting (easier than fumbleing this out) and that there were more lines to make available ports. Maybe twice as many?
I hope you can help me with this, you'll be helping an entire community!
    Thanks!

  • 1605 R - how to open a port

I need to open a port for remote database access, and have no documentation or schematic for how this was set up by a volunteer ages ago. I have found some Cisco docs on how to get in to configure, but nothing on the process for opening a port. any advice appreciated!

I haven't gotten in to get that information off it yet...there is no browser interface, so I have to connect directly. We have the Cisco 1605 R in front of a Linksys switch. It is not in default setup, it was configured at install...I know this port is not open, because we pinged it from outside.
We deal with a lot of confidential client information, so we are locked down tight. I want to open up this port for remote database access. And as I said, this was set up so long ago there is no documentation. But once I get in I will post the config if I can do that without compromising our data.
I'm not even sure I can get past whatever passwords are on there to get the config off it...we may have to contact the volunteer to try to find out how it is set up. I was just hoping someone could point me towards a procedure for setup once I am in there, but maybe it will be apparent in the interface.

  • Opening multiple ports on Airport Extreme

I need to open multiple ports on an Airport Extreme to allow for ftps service (about 500 ports). In port forwarding, it appears that I would have to enter 500 entries to do that (e.g. port 4001, 4002, 4003 etc.) Sounds wacky. In other routers (or linux sortware), multiple entries can be entered like "400, 4000-4500". Apple docs don't address this (from what I could find). Is there a syntax for multiple port forwarding?

Are you using the round 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) or the square 802.11b/g/n AEBS?
The round AEBS does not allow you to enter ranges. The only solution for a great number of ports is to use the default host option and send ALL the ports to the designated computer.
I believe that the square AEBS allows you to enter ranges.

  • LRT224 Dual Wan - Opening up Ports

    Hello,
I am installing a new VoIP system on our network and the company advises us that we need to open UDP Ports 10000-60000 and TCP port 80 and 443. I believe TCP Ports 80 and 443 are already open according to the test I have run but I need to open the UDP Ports.
Can anyone advise me how to do this? We have roughly 8 computers on the network and I need to open the ports for all computers.
    Thanks

    That sound right.
In your One to One Nat set your Private Range Begin to something like 192.168.1.50 and the Range Length to number of phones. Remember that you don't include IP addresses in use by WAN ports in Public Range Begin.
Use IP & MAC binding to assign the IP addresses to the workstations.
In this case you might not have to open ports because of the One to One NAT I'm not sure.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • I have an Airport Extreme and need to open ports in order to view my CCTV system remotely.  How am I able to do this?

I have an Airport Extreme and need to open ports in order to view my CCTV system remotely.  How am I able to do this?  The company that supports the system says I need to open the following - 8200, 8016, 8116, 10019, 12088.  All help is appreciated.

Open AirPort Utility on the PC, select the Airport Extreme and click Manual Setup
    Click the Advanced icon
    Click the Port Mapping tab
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the connection list to set things up
Reference pages 49-51 in the Apple AirPort Networks guide for more info
IF.....you do not see a Port Mapping tab when you click the Advanced icon, then that would mean that the AirPort Extreme is in Bridge Mode and the main routing functions for the network are being provided by another device.
You will need to set up the port mapping on that device, which is likely your modem/router or gateway.
