Wireless change in Macbook Pro?

So I recently moved my wireless router to the back room in my house. I have two Macbook Pros, one the first version of the new unibody design, the other the old version bought probably about 1 year prior to the unibody design introduction. Both up-to-date in terms of system updates, software, etc. Now when I'm sitting in my living room which is about the farthest away from the router in my house, the older Macbook Pro has no problem. At worst I see 3-4 bars on the wireless icon on the menu bar, usually five. On the other hand, the newer Macbook Pro has become totally useless in the living room. I get about 1 bar at best and the internet runs at a snail's pace (if any all). Both run perfectly in every other room in the house.
I'm probably just going to upgrade to a wireless-N router anyway which I hope will fix the problem but have no idea why this would be. Any suggestions?

Then how come my MacBook Pro runs without a problem?
Then how come I can run 10.5.7, 10.5.5, 10.5.4, 10.5.3, 10.5.2, 10.5.1, 10.5.0 and 10.4.11 with narely an interruption in my wireless. Yes I skipped 10.5.6.
But that matters not. My point is, if some people have no problem, it can't be the drivers alone that matter. What matter is whether or not something else is contributing to the driver's demise.
What can't be ascertained from long threads is whether or not the people in question had one of these problems:
1. They used Migration Assistant from a PowerPC to Intel. This creates issues with PowerPC drivers being migrated over occasionally, and why this user tip was written:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=0
2. They have some third party wireless device whose firmware is not up to date. 802.11n is a DRAFT standard. This means not every router on the planet speaks it the same way. Furthermore setting up most third party routers is much more difficult than using an Apple Airport base station.
3. As you'll find out one of the common tips for 10.5.8 is to install an older kernel extension. This tip has been passed around before. Unfortunately older kernel extensions may not speak with future updates as well, if the kernel extension wasn't touched in a future update. Stick the kernel extension that came with the update, and run the combo updater from Apple's website for the update you desire*:
http://www.macmaps.com/jaguarleopard.html
4. Many people are under the false idea they should run Onyx, or other cache cleaning software. Alas, this leads to further data corruption, and could end up corrupting the files relating to the wireless. I've written this tip regarding Mac OS X maintenance:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1772235
Improper "maintenance" can cause more problems than it solves.
5. Back to third party routers, many are not "dual-channel", which means they are more succeptable to interference from other things in the 2.4 Ghz spectrum such as microwaves, and non-cellphone wireless phones. So while the Apple wireless software expects dual-channel wireless, some older cheaper routers don't support it. You get what you pay for.
As for my reading the forums, I can tell you that going all Apple can help a lot, because you are then just dealing with Apple's own airport setup software, which is a consistant interface from which to troubleshoot. Trying doing that through the admin page of routers when they vary by router can be hit and miss. Some don't even offer the options you see in the Airport, and some are very specific about which machines they let in on their network. Rather that label people "fanboy" and such, try to isolate your own issue, in your own thread. Wireless issues can be quite hard to pin down, and even though Windows may not have it on the same machine, it does not mean the driver on the Mac is bad. It may just be corrupted, or the router may not communicate exactly the protocol the Mac is expecting. I've written a FAQ on wireless here*:
http://www.macmaps.com/WIFI1048.html
Unless you have a solution to help the original poster, I suggest starting a new thread here:
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1297&start=0
Where you'll get a wider audience, and more possibility of having someone who actually can isolate your problem. Hiding your problem in another thread solves no problems, except for those who can read through multiple posts and glean the information from there.

  • How can i change my macbook pro keyboard buttom english to arabic

How can i change my macbook pro keyboard buttom english to arabic

Apple does make and sell MacBook Pros with Arabic keyboards but, as far as I know, they're only sold in the Arabic market. You may be able to special order one: I don't know. You may even be able to order the keyboard only online or at your local Apple Store and have your English keyboard replaced. Again, I don't know.
The best thing to do, if you're in the US, is to call Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE. Tell them what you need and see how they might go about fulfilling your needs.
    Good luck,

  • I recently changed my MacBook Pro password, and now I don't remember it.  Is there anyway to gain access to my mac without reinstalling or deleting everything that's on it?  I don't have the disk that came with it either.

Hi.  I recently changed my MacBook Pro password, and now I don't recall what it is.  My hope is that I can somehow gain access without deleting everything currently on it.  I do not have the MAC disk that it came with.  Is there something I can do myself?  Should I take it to the MAC store?  Thanks in advance for your help.

It helps with this kind of question to state which system version you are using on the computer as the answer will vary.

  • Can you WIRELESSLY connect a macbook pro to a monitor to have extra work space on a separate screen from your macbook? (not mirror, extra monitor/workspace)

Can you WIRELESSLY connect a macbook pro to a monitor to have extra work space on a separate screen from your macbook? (not mirror, extra monitor/workspace)
    It needs to be wireless.
I am not asking about mirroring, but as a second screen.
Apple tv communties said the Apple tv cannot do this, but maybe another type device can?

My thunderbolt port stopped working on my late 2011 MacBook Pro rendering my external monitor useless--or so I thought.
Mac Genius suggested using the Apple TV via AirPlay Display as a $100 solution. Took me all of 6 minutes to figure this out as there are no directions in the Apple TV box supporting this. But, it does work and I am now back in business.
PS. Don't set up with bluetooth--seems logical but you want to use AirPlay Display under Settings > Displays.
Also, I originally thought my external monitor stopped working because I upgraded the OS. This time, it was definitely a hardware issue and not software. It also fixed a known sound issue my monitor had with Macs. First time in my 15 years I've ever had a ViewSonic have issues with an Apple product, too. Thanfully, it is now fixed.
    Hope this helps.

Is there a cd that came with the printer?
If so, put in the cd and that will help you set it up.
If not, I think macs come with a program that helps you set up printers.
Also make sure that the printer is connected to the same network.
Make sure the printer is on.

The cases are aluminum not titanium. Do as you wish and that satisfies your aesthetic senses.

  • Wireless printing from MacBook Pro to MacBook through Linksys?

I have a MacBook connected to an Epson printer. Our Internet connection is through a Linksys WRT54G router.
My son just got a MacBook Pro. Both machines are running Leopard.
Can he print wirelessly from the MB Pro through my MacBook connected to the printer? I've got print sharing turned on in both machines, but I can't find any other documentation that tells me how to do this. I've searched and can't find my set up listed there - I see lots of Window to Mac, print servers, Airport Extreme questions. It's so simple, however, that I must have missed it - so forgive me if this has been answered before.
    Patrick

    Patricksgolden:
I have this same setup with a G5 connected to a home network and a linksys wireless router that I connect a new MacBook Pro and my daughter connects a dell laptop. I have two printers connected to the G5 which runs Tiger. I turned on print sharing as indicated by apple documentation. This did not work. I reviewed all the postings on printing using leopard and found the following posting very helpful.
OS X 10.5 client and NON-OS X CUPS server: adding printers, solved.
What I did was update the local CUPS configuration file by going to http://localhost:631/ and editing the configuration file based on the above posting. Then I rebooted by Mac. The printers then appeared in the systems preferences default option. However they still did not work.
Finally I added them manually using the IP option and the LPD selection with the G5 IP address. Make sure you put in the print queue name. The only other change I needed to make was to use the Generic Postscript driver instead of the Epson driver(RX500). It then started to print. Using the Epson driver sent it to the printer however it completed without printing.
I hope this helps. I know it is not the step by step instructions, however if you look at the above thread there is more detail.

  • Best wireless router for MacBook pro

I have a new MacBook pro. I've been online (wirelessly) for weeks but now I can't get online, or if I do, I get kicked off if I try to change pages. We have several iPads which I'm on now, several windows based laptops, and a windows pc. The wireless router is plugged into the pc. Everything but the pc has problems getting online and staying online but now the Mac is the only one that cant. I've reset the router, changed ports, restarted everything so many times I can do it in my sleep. We have D-link as the router. I'm thinking that's the problem but it's only 9ish months old and has been working until now. We have comcast. Help!

    Thanks everyone for responding!
I asked one of the workers at Best Buy about wireless routers and he suggested this one or D-Link. As well, he mentioned that it didn't really matter on what brand it was but I trust Linksys since it is with Cisco. I had a Cisco computer before I got into college with a mac.
I ended up buying a Linksys E2000. I live in residence so it made sense for me to get that one. It was an easy set up and really fast. The E2000 is 1 level higher than the E1000. In the beginning the guy suggested the E2000 but I asked if I were to get a higher one, he suggested E2000. It took about maybe 5-10 mins to completely set it up.
