Wireless Charging Possible?

Hey.. We all know about how things are getting better at apple and all the wireless stuff. I was just wondering if we are anywhere near to getting to the point where we can charge our laptops wirelessly? Through a wireless network or whatever means? Cuz the remote optical drive just blew me away. I don't know if this is the right place to ask..

Hi,
will "what" consume more energy in charging? Wireless power transmission is nothing for home right now, the electrosmog and the potential health dangers are immense yet. Of course it would be more practical if we would have it. Best of course would be to never have to worry about charging or energy at all.

  • Lumia 920 Wireless Charging not working - Known is...

I have a Nokia Lumia 920, which works perfectly fine. I haven't had some of the other issues reported here with freezing, apps, etc.
I have a Nokia charging plate and I've found that no matter what I do the wireless charging plate absolutely does not work. I've turned off Bluetooth, Wifi, turned ON Battery Saver, disabled every background app, even hard reset my phone and tried charging it from stock. The wireless charging plate doesn't even maintain the current battery state - The battery slowly drains hour by hour. I've also tried placing the phone on the charging plate in different positions to ensure it's making good contact. Nothing works.
Is this a known issue? Is there anyway to identify a defective phone? Is there a possible fix for this? I love my Lumia, but this a killer feature I would expect to work consistently.

OK, this thread is odd. My charging plate works fine. It has a side with a little ring and Nokia in it, and the other side has an oval of rubber around the periphery with the usual conformance writing on it that side Qi, CE, don't throw it on the trash icon,  Mine works just fine with the Oval down, and the Nokia in the ring up. Is that not what others see?
I can turn it over, but it is touchy as to whether I can get the light to come on. Usually not. I assumed, initially, the oval went down to keep it from sliding around on the table, and Nokia went up because they want you to know it's Nokia. Has always worked that way. I wish there was a larger rubber something on the 'top' as the phone can slide and spin more than I think it should.
For what it is worth, I much prefer the charge stand, but the plate is more convenient if I am going to travel somewhere for a while. Couple of days, just charger, week or so, might bring the plate for the hotel.
BTW, I do get the connect noise when putting it on the charge plate. Sometimes it can take a second otr two. When I take it off, it can take several seconds to get the disconnect noise and the charging icon to go away. If I put it back on the charger before the disconnect noise and the charge icon goes away, it does NOT make a connect noise, though the light comes on. The light will also eventually go off at full charge.

  • Lumia 1020 & DT-900 Wireless Charger?

Can someone confirm whether the DT-900 will charge a 1020 equipped with a charging cover?  The DT-900 is listed as one of the recommended accessories on the Nokia website, but the people at my local AT&T store swear it does not work.  I wouldn't rule out the possibility that their opinion is based on trying to charge a 1020 without a charging cover.

Does not work for me. Don't waste your money. I got the LG wireless charger (for Nexus 4) as well as the google charging orb and both work fine. The DT900 - which I replaced because I thought it was faulty - does not charge the lumia 1020. It works for about 30 seconds and then start blinking indicating that it has lost contact. It does not matter how I position the lumia, it fails to charge after 30 seconds.

  • A Wireless Charger

I had this sudden idea this morning while I was lamenting about my Macbook charger being all the way upstairs- I have no sort of experience with developing technology or any of the science involved, I should add- but, I think it would really bring the modern day laptop into a new realm.
The whole point of a laptop was that it would be portable and easy to take with you. However, the battery life of a laptop leaves you utterly dependent on the infamous white cord often enough, perhaps a little too often despite the so called "longer lasting battery life" of the newer laptops.
So, here's my idea: a wireless charger that connects into an outlet, but has to be in a certain range of the laptop (let's say Macbook now) and charges the Macbook wirelessly through use of sensors or something. I have no idea if this technology is even possible at the moment; I'm afraid I am terribly naive with this kind of thing, but it would be a total modernization of the laptop. Even iPads have to be plugged in eventually; they could run of the same wireless charger. Maybe even iPhones.
I understand it may be bad for the battery for someone to use it while it's charging and that is why they make the cords (and short for the iPhones), but that should be overcome by modern science, as well. It's the age of convenience, right?!
Also, there are charging stations for the wii where you simply have to place them on the pad. Touch charges them. That makes me think it wouldn't be so hard to expand that technology. And hey- maybe someone is already developing this! I had no idea.
If anyone wants to educate me in the likelihood of this or enlighten me as to what sort of technology would be needed or used, please chime in!

... And hey- maybe someone is already developing this!
And that someone would be Apple:

  • Wireless charger DC-50

Hello, i was interested in purchasing one of these battery packs, but i'd like to ask a question first:
Will the battery inside the DC-50 get ruined if i also use the accessory as a normal wireless charging plate? This is what i would like to do: at night plug in the DC-50, put my lumia on top of it and find them both ready in the morning!
Is this 1 possible? 2 suggested? 3 will it ruin the DC-50 battery?
    Thanks

It is fine. The product manual even states that you can charge the charging plate and phone at the same time. But please be aware of the charging cycles of a battery which is around 500 cycles before the battery wears out.

  • JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging Speaker for Nokia

My JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging Speaker for Nokia no longer charges my Lumia 920. It charges fine on my Nokia charging plate so that rules out a problem with the phone itself. All other functions of the speaker work fine - it just will no longer charge my Lumia 920. Anyone else have this problem?

I bought the white folding charging case plus the TYLT VÜ Wireless Charging Pad yesterday at the Verizon wireless store and it doesn't work.

  • Nokia lumia 1520 with Nokia Wireless Charging Plat...

I brought a nokia lumia 1520 and a wireless charger from AT&T. I tried to charge my phone when it had almost no power in it. But the white light kept blinking while I put my phone on it. And I'm sure that no other device between the two objects. Does anybody know what is going on with it?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The AT&T 1520 does not have Q1 wireless charging. This is what the DT-900 is.
It has PMA wireless charging. AT&T had Nokia change the wireless chang platform to PMA, which is different than other Nokia phones.
    Complain to AT&T !     I did.

  • Lumia 822 wireless charging: really misleading, No...

    Quite annoyed by this:
If you look under Lumia 822 specifications, they say this:
    http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia822/specifications/
    (Under Hardware):
    Wireless connectivity
    Bluetooth 3.0
    Near Field Communication
    Wi-Fi Channel bonding
    WLAN IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n
    Qi Wireless charging
However, as it turns out, 822 also requires a wireless charging shell? For the 820, at least you see that as a listed option under Accessories, but for the 822, it is not there?
I dunno - seems wrong to me; why not have a "*" is there is a footnote needed that wireless charging shell is needed? I guess I'll keep the dual wireless charger I bought for the future with the hope that shells will become available and will not cost too much?

@slaverenz-     read the user guide: http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/pdf_guides/devices/822/Nokia_Lumia_822_UG_en.pdf
    Page 16.
In order to charge wirelessly, NFC must be enabled.  I talked to Nokia support on the phone.  NFC is necessary to connect the phone to the secondary device, whether it be a charging plate or headset, etc.  When one goes to the settings and turns on NFC, only NFC sharing is enabled.  When the shell that has not been released becomes available, it contains an NFC contact point (square) that must touch with another device to activate (the center of the charging plate for example.  The phone does not charge via NFC, but connects wirelessly to the charging plate through it.

  • Lumia 925 + wireless charging back = broken BT voi...

I'm posting this in case anyone else has discovered this problem.
I've got a Lumia 925 with the wireless charging back fitted. If I use the phone with a Bluetooth headset to listen to audio on the phone, it is fine. If I use the BT headset, or BT functionality in my car, to make or receive a telephone call, the voice audio is very broken and intermittent. Sometimes ending and restarting the call clears it, but not very often.
What *does* cure the problem is removing the wireless charging back. I have noted that the phone does NOT need to actually be charging for the interference - it just needs to be fitted.
I am NOT sure if the problem is being caused by the accessory or by the phone itself. I am arranging for the accessory to be replaced first (less hassle) but it could well be the phone.

I am having the same exact problem. I was initially thinking that this is some compatability issue between my car's integrated BT support, but as you suggested, once I have removed the charging cover, the issue is gone. What's interesting is that this will continue even if the cover is removed from the phone and until next restart of the phone.
Anyone has solution to this? BTW: I can confirm that in my previous Lumia 920 and my wife's Lumia 820 with wireless cover this does not happen.

  • Nokia Lumia Icon + DT900 wireless charging problem

I bought a Nokia Lumia Icon which had a defected SIM card tray. I replaced the daughter engine board where the SIM card tray is located without charging the phone first (the battery was completely empty) and now when I'm trying to charge the phone wirelessly with DT900, it just doesn't work. So I don't know whether it worked (or not) before my fixing procedure.
DT900 works with my wife's Lumia 1020 and my Lumia 928 so there's nothing wrong with it.
So all you technical gurus over here:
    1) how does the wireless charging work with Lumia Icon/930? I.e. does anyone have any wiring diagrams for Lumia Icon/930? There are two pins on the main board but where do they go? I didn't detach the main board, only the engine cover assembly and the battery in order to replace the daughter engine board where the SIM card tray is. So does the engine cover assembly have anything to do with the wireless charging (I don't think so) or do those pins go straight to the battery?
    2) does anyone know whether this is a common problem among Lumia Icon / 930 phones? A type fault or a serie of phones with defective rear cover and its wireless charging assembly?
I'd really appreciate if someone could help me. Thanks a lot in advance!

I can understand that when a manufacturer provides a free user forum they do not appreciate information posted which may cause problems and then be held responsible for the damages as it is an 'official' resource provided by the manufacturer.
I'd suggest you lookup the meaning of censorship which this most definately is not.

  • Case for note 4 with original wireless charging cover

I bought a samsung wireless charging cover for my note 4. When I tried to out the case on it, it no longer fits. After doing research I confirmed the phone is slightly thicker now. What cases are compatible with this set up?

I apologize joevas22, I didn't mean to insult you; I need to make sure this was done. I researched this quite thoroughly since you mentioned the size had changed. As stated in the link provided, the dimensions are 8inX2inX5in; our model is 6.04inX3.09inX0.33.  I assure you, this has been the only model we have and not changed anything. This is the link to the manufacturer's page http://bit.ly/1GbpHCS as well as ours http://vz.to/1ttodxd so you verify the information I provided is accurate. I am not sure why the seller listed the case as compatible with all models.

  • Missing Samsung Wireless Charging Pad with Purchase of Galaxy S6

    Hi Bestbuy,
I recently ordered the Galaxy S6 on bestbuy.com. I saw a page that said Free Samsung Wireless Charging Pad with Galaxy S6 purchase valid 3/27/15-5/9/15. I noticed it wasn't added to my order. I also called the customer service line and the representative didn't know what I was talking about. Could you guys please help me out.
    Thank you!
    Jason

    Hi JDiep,
I hope that you have had a great weekend thus far.
From the information I have reviewed, we did recently offer a free Samsung Wireless Charger with the purchase of a Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge.  You would need to have added the charger to your online shopping cart during checkout in-order to advantage of the promotional offer.  I looked over the order you placed using the email address you registered with the forum and it does not appear the charger was attached to your order when it was submitted.
With that having been said, I will be sending you a private message so that I can go over your order with you in additional detail to see what I can potentially do to help.  To check your private messages, you will want to login to the forum and click on the little yellow envelope icon located at the top of the page.  I look forward to further speaking with you.
Thank you for posting to the forum and enjoy your new Samsung Galaxy S6!

  • Wireless Charging Stand NFC Not Working

I am trying to figure out how to configure the NFC for the DT-910 Wireless Charging Stand for my Nokia Lumia 920. It charges fine, but I cannot figure out how to get the NFC to work. When I go to the Accessories Settings, nothing is listed. Do I need to manually download something to do the configuration?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Ok, through trial and search I found the solution!
In the nokia forums, look at this post:
    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Pool-of-Knowledge/Nokia-Windows-Phone-8-App-Updates/m-p/1640082#M242
    install the lumia pusher
    open the new app
select the “accessories” app and let it install (note the 928 isn’t listed, but it works)
now go to your normal “settings” and scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see “accessories nokia accessories settings”
tap your phone on the base of the stand and it will ask you to run the app (approve). You can make settings changes now for weather, clock, calendar, etc.
