Wireless Computer

Hi Guys.....I'm new to the forum so please be patient.I recently bought a new HP dv9000t that has a built in wireless card. Its the Intel/PRO 3495 a/b/g.I purchased the LINKSYS WRT54G router and have it hooked up correctly to my desktop. All the lights on the front are lit (internet, eathernet 1,WLAN and power) the wireless card in the computer is tuened on.However when I check it it says that the wireless isnt active. All my connections are good because the laptop gos online with a wired connection.I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and I dont know how to get to the window that tells me to add the key needed I guess so the computer is recognized on the network.
PLEASE help....I have spent hours on this trying to figure it out and I'm really frustrated.
~Bob

access the router using http://192.168.1.1 . Type the password and logon....go to the "wireless" tab and ensure that the wirelss network mode is "mixed"..., change the ssid , channel - 1 or 11....
on your laptop , go to control panel >> network and sharing center>>manage your connection>>ensure that the "wireless network connection" is enabled...

Your question makes no sense. You "connect" an iOS device to iTunes on your computer via WiFi or by using the supplied cable.

      Thanks for your help.
First of all you need ot find out if your landlord allows you to connect to their network. Is it part of your rental agreement? Do you need a password? Do you need to pay extra for access? Do you need a password from them? As another poster points out your iMac has Wi-Fi built in. All you need to do is turn it on. Open System Preferences -> Network -> Wi-Fi and turn it on. Your apartment's wireless network should appear if it exists. If you need a password to connect you willget that from your aprtment manager IF it's incuded in your rent.
Somehow, though, I get the impression we're not talking about the same thing. Are you moving in with someone who already has the Internet and you want to use their wireless network?

  • Wireless computer no ip wrt54g

for the past 5 days my wireless computer has been unable to connect to the internet. My router settings are fine and my wired pc and still connect to the net. But my wireless pc wont pull an ip. Ive done everything that I know to do but I cant get it to work. Some pro help would be great seeing as the wife and kids are not allowed on my uber gaming machine lol.

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor/No wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna (if external) should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.

  • WRT54G no internet conn through wireless computer

Hi, I own 2 computers. One is plugged straight in to the router, the other is wireless. All was fine until i either uninstalled somthing on my wireless computer (not sure). I pressed the button on the left of the router until it blinked white then let it search for wireless connection. It found the computer but when I look at the connection it says Im connected to the router but not to the internet. The Cisco systems button is solid white now and I beleive it used to be orange. My wired computer connects fine. The wireless computer has an X saying no network conn. I dont know if its the router or computer. I did a run, cmd, ipconfig and it says somthing like no media or somthing and doesnt give me an IP address. I think this where Im having my trouble but dont know how to fix it. I cant release and re assign an adress. It wont let me. Please help
    Mick

The problem was DUE to you accidentally pressing the CISCO button. That is actually called the SES button whose function is create a randomly generated wireless network with a randomly generated wireless password or key... if this is white... this means it's active and that your previous wireless network name and settings whatever they were, are gone and replaced with randomly generated ones.
Solution here can be using a PC hardwired to the router and with this PC, edit the newly made wireless settings back into your previous wireless settings. To do that, open up internet explorer and type on the address bar the numbers 192.168.1.1 (username just leave it blank, password as a default is admin)... then go to the wireless tab and edit all the necessary settings there...

  • Mystery: Wired computer connected to E3000 invisible to wireless computer connections

I have a primary computer connected by Ethernet to a new E3000 router and 3 computers by wireless connections, with all computers on Windows 7. The primary computer has Windows 7, 64 bit.  The issue is that the primary computer wired to the E3000 can see the wireless connections,  but none of the wireless computers can see it.  Each of the 3 wireless computer can see the others, but none can see the primary computer connected to the router.   But the primary computer connected to the router does show all 4 computers in the network.
Additionally, all computers are in a Windows 7 Home Group.
Any help will be much appreciated.

You can follow this link and it will help you in Enabling file sharing between your computers. Also disable the Firewall and Antivirus on your computer and then check.
Updating my previous post,  I stumbled upon the solution to my problem.  In working with Home Group, I discovered that if the files or folders are not setup properly to share, then the computer will not be seen in the Home Group or Network Folders.
So, I had to right-click on the folders I wanted to share and  select the 'Share with' option, which opens a list of sharing options to choose.   This action completed makes all of the computers visible in the Home Group and Network folders.
This is a little tricky step with Home Group.  During the initial setup of a Home Group, choices of what to share are made then too.  But it does not work until the actual assignment of files or folders is made, as described above.
It was a great learning experience, and now works perfectly.  Thanks for helping to gain insight.

  • Wireless Computer, Wireless Router, Wireless Print Server

I am having difficulty with a specific configuration trying to print wirelessly.
I have no problem printing from my iBook G4, Power Mac Dual G4 750, Dell Notebook, or Compaq Presario Desktop using this configuration: Linksys Wireless-G router and Linksys Wireless-G Print Server.
As long as the Print Server is connected to the Router via an ethernet cable, the network works fine - I can print from any computer.
The problem I am encountering comes from the fact that I now want to use the Print Server with another printer that is a seperate room from the router (I don't want to connect it with an ethernet cable). This shouldn't be a problem since it's a wireless print server.
I had always used a static IP to access and configure the router, but now that I have removed the ethernet connection I can't log in. In fact, when it is plugged into a different port on the router (via ethernet) I can't log into it either. When I reconnect it the original way, it is not problem.
Running the original install software on my PCs doesn't help either.
How can I make this work?
Can my wireless computers (e.g. iBook with Airport Extreme wireless card) talk directly to the Print Server, or does it talk to the Print Server via the wireless router?
I don't have an Airport base.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I do not think I can help you with your question however I have the same router and print server and I too have never been able to get the print server to work wirelessly. It's a real kick in the head too because the linksys tech nubs just talk you around in a circle saying that the deivce is wireless but that you have to use the wire. I don't know maybe its me...
Nonetheless I now have a mac laptop that works the the router but I can not get the powerbook to connect the the print server. I would be interested to know how you go your mac to work with you first printer.

  • Wired computer on WET200 cannot talk to wireless computer on WRV210

    I have a computer (static IP: 192.168.1.12) wired to a WET200 bridge (firmware: 1.0.13).
    The WET200 (192.168.1.99) is connected wirelessly to a WRV210 router (firmware: 1.1.16).
The router is the internet gateway (192.168.1.2).
A computer connected wirelessly (DHCP) to the router cannot see any computer connected to the WET200 bridge or the bridge itself.
The wired computer on the bridge can ping the wireless DCHP computer, but that computer cannot ping the other.
All computers can connect to the internet.
    Why?

    Never mind.
    Firewall issue.

  • Configuring airport express without wireless computer

I've got a 2008 Mac Pro with no wireless hooked up to the square Airport Extreme by ethernet cable.  The airport extreme serves other wireless computers throughout the house.  Last year, it was complicated configuring 2011 airport expresses to extend my network using the Mac Pro as the home computer, but I finally managed it with the help of an Apple tech who said most other techs would probably not know the trick to doing it.  It worked great for over a year.
Today, out of nowhere, airport utility came up with an error message and told me I needed to change settings to a LAN bridge.  I followed directions, but the effect was to wipe out all my settings.  I managed to reset and get the extreme back working, but I'm having trouble getting the airport expresses properly configured. Instructions online are based on doing it with a computer that's also wireless.  Part of the trick in configuring involved deselecting a lower button in Airport Utility, then going to areless settings and changing WAN to extend the network.
I wish I would have gone to the trouble of doing screen grabs with each step along the way, but if anyone knows the steps for reconfiguring the airport expresses using a computer without wireless, I'll pay for your kids' college:  or at least ask God to let you win the lottery.

A cool Apple tech, realizing that I was only having problems because their software had topedoed my working set-up, actually gave me a no-charge rundown of the standard procedure using that ethernet trick, which seemed to work up until the last step, but at that point, the update and restart of the apple express failed each time I tried.  From what I remember when I initially configured the express last year, the ethernet trick is part of the right procedure.  Thanks.
