Wireless computers cannot see wired computers

I'm a bit frustrated at this point: It seems like such a simple problem:
I have both wireless and wired computers connected to my Verizon router (Westell, I think).
All computers can access the Internet
All computers are Windows 7 with all updates.
The "wired" computers can see each other and share files and printers.
The "wireless" computers can only see internet, not other computers.
I have a working "home group" between the wired computers.
The wireless computers say there is no homegroup available to connect to. Also, Network in Windows does not show any other computers on the wireless ones.
Wireless security is WPA/2
I have run every "Troubleshooter" that I can find, in Windows and the Verizon In-Home Agent.
The closest I have come to figuring this out is that I have seen some discussion about "bridging" the wireless network to the wired network.  It seems that this setting is part of the Router setup, but I am just guessing at this point.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have 1 wireless and 2 wired PCs and I too have had trouble with the wireless PC “seeing” the wired PCs (and vice versa) in Network and HomeGroup.
Occasionally, the wireless PC name would be displayed in HomeGroup and Network on a wired PC but every attempt at connecting would fail.
I’ve researched this problem by reading quite a few forums (including several Microsoft forums) and implemented many suggestions with no results. All of the modifications dealt with settings within Windows, remove and reconnect to the HomeGroup, HomeGroup and Sharing options, etc. but this was the first suggestion to affect the router.
All 3 PCs had no problems or issues accessing the Internet. The only issue was the inability to transfer files across the LAN.
I have an “older” Verizon Actiontec MI424-WR (Rev C) router using WPA2. All three PCs are running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit). The wireless PC has an internal 802.11n WiFi card and proximity to the router didn’t have any affect with the problem.
After I modified IGMP Proxy to Disabled and rebooted router (just to be safe), the problem was solved. I’ve monitored the situation for the past 2 days and both the wireless and wired PCs have been able to consistently see each other in Homegroup and Network. Connectivity has been consistent and file transfers have been working beautifully. Internet access and speed (using http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/) has not been affected on any PC.
A thought: The problem may have resulted from changing from WEP to WPA2. It’s been such a long time since that change including PC hardware changes, OS upgrades, additional hardware that uses WiFi, and other wireless items that could produce interference, I can’t be sure when the problem first occurred.
I can’t explain why it worked but changing IGMP Proxy to Disabled, in my circumstance, solved the problem.

  • Wireless host cannot ping wired host

I have a Linksys wireless router with two desktop PC's attached. When I connect my lap top (wireless) I cannot ping the desktop PC's. However, the desktop PC's can pint the wireless PC........ Can anyone help?

Actually - I thought I had - just tried it again and I can ping without the firewall running. Is there a particular port I can open, I hate to shut down the firewall. Whole reason for this project is to get my Microsoft networking to work. When it did not work, I reverted to ping testing, then found this issue.

  • Cannot see wired network device in Home Sharing

I have an Apple TV 3, W7 HP Laptop and W7 Desktop.
The ATV3 and HP Laptop both connect to my home network wirelessly through my Linksys WRT610N Router. Home Sharing is enabled on my W7 laptop and the ATV3 can see it and access its Library.
The W7 Desktop is hard wired directly to the WRT610N Router. Home Sharing is enabled (all the same account) yet the ATV3 nor my W7 HP Laptop can see it or its Library contents.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what my problem might be (apart from using Windows )?

Are you sure you're not double natting, creating two separate networks.
To configure the AEBSn as an access point, you need to turn connection sharing off under AirPort Utility>Internet>Internet Connection>Connection Sharing. You also may have to change other settings in this section.

  • T430 with Intel Ultimate-N 6300 wireless card cannot see 5Ghz network

I have two machines with the exact same Intel 6300 AGN wireless cards.  Both running Widowns 7 64-bit.  Both have same versions of Intel drivers installed.  The X230 sees and connects to my 5Ghz wireless network.  The T430 sees only the 2.4Ghz network.  The 5Ghz network is not even displayed in its list of available networks.
The T430 sees other 5Ghz networks in the neighborhood.  Using inSSIDer I can see that the wifi card is functioning on the 5Ghz frequency as it displays 3 other nearby networks.  But I have no way to test connection since those are not my networks and are secured (as is mine).
Windows also shows those neighboring 5Ghz networks in the list of available connections.  Only my own 5Ghz network is absent from both lists.
Both my 2.4 and 5Ghz bands are broadcasing their SSID's.  All MAC filtering is correct and both machines are allowed on the networks.  The WPA keys are correct.
I have even copied the network settings from the working X230 using the "Copy this network profile to a USB flash drive" option from the wireless network properties window and added the 5Ghz network to the T430 using the USB key.  So I know the settings are identical.
I ran Lenovo diagnostics Wireless Quick Test on both machines and got identical successfull results.
The only thing amusing about this issue is that the X230 wifi card was purchased from an eBay seller in China and that is the one that works.  The card in T430 came with the laptop direct from Lenovo and that one has trouble.  Both cards have Lenovo FRU numbers and clearly are whitelist approved since they both work.  Just that the T430 card only sees the 2.4Ghz network.
I have assigned static IP addresses to both machines on the network.
    I have rebooted the router.
I have run all Lenovo and Windows updates on both machines.
If anyone has further suggestions I woul really appreciate assistance.
    Thank you.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • VMWare Fusion - Cannot see other computers in the Workgroup

For some reason I'm unable to see or access other machines in my Windows Workgroup from within Fusion 1.1.3. Alternatively, I cannot see or access the VM from other WinXP machines in my workgroup. The other WinXP machines in my workgroup CAN at least ping the VM. I cannot ping anything outside of the VM other than OS X and my gateway/router. And yes, I've tried disabling the firewall on both the VM and other Windows machines in my Workgroupto no avail.
I am currently using a Bridged network configuration in Fusion. If I open an explorer window in the VM and type in the UNC path to OS X I can access it, but not other Windows machines on my network... why?
Perhaps someone can at least confirm whether they can access/see other computers in their Workgroup from Fusion?
Maybe this simply isn't possible under Fusion and I'm just going around in circles here...
    Thanks

How did you resolve this? I am about ready to toss my month-old macbook out the window over this.

I cannot see my itunes library on the main menu under computers despite the network being active and the home sharing on on both the devices the mac and apple tv. Any ideas?

    Hi Monty,
Sorry to say it, but this is normal for Apple TVs. I've owned a TV2 and a TV3, and neither lasted for an entire year. They are quite fragile and of low quality, and as you can see here, quite fussy even when they work. The wi-fi receiver on these are cheap and unreliable.
Consider the $99 an annual rental fee. They rarely work for a whole year, so if you are going to use the platform, you will have to replace them constantly.
Also, when one dies under warranty, never, never send it to Apple for repair. Go to the Apple Store for replacement. I sent my ATV3 in for warranty repair using a box sent to me by Apple, and although FedEx tracking showed it was accepted by Apple, it was never seen again. Apple won't replace it or even return my calls.

  • Networking Wired and Wireless Computers

I must write before I need Rogaine for the bald patches where I've pulled out my hair.  I've read everything I can find about setting up wired/wireless home networks, and there is obviously something I don't grasp.
    Here is my current setup:
My 'main computer' is my desktop PC running Win XP, and connected via Ethernet to a Westell 6100 modem.  It has no wireless adaptor.
I have a WRT54G Linksys router.  I want to be able to run two notebooks (running XP, with the necessary wireless adaptors) wirelessly.  Is this even possible with the main computer being a wired computer?
If so, do I run the Linksys setup CD on the main computer first even though it has no wireless adaptor?  Or do I run the setup software only on the notebooks?
Additionally, when a wireless network is successfully set up, and an Internet connection ultimately established, must there be at least one Ethernet cable still connected to the Linksys router?
Thank you for reading this post, and I appreciate your tolerance of my ignorance.

To answer that.  Yes you need to have at least one wired PC  to be able to configure your router.  You can access/configure it manually by opening your browser and typing in http://192.168.1.1 (or what ever IP the router is set to) and hit enter.  That will bring up the routers log on window.  By default the user is left blank (some routers the user is admin) and the password is admin.  If the password has been set to something else(as it should be for security reasons) then use that password.  When you access your router make sure you set the SSID to something other then linksys so you can identify your wireless network and configure what ever security you need. If you configure any security write it down so when you connect your wireless computers to your SSID (wireless network) you can enter the settings exactly as they are in the router.

  • We have 3 computers that have been authorized to home share but we cannot see eachothers library since updated to the latest version.  Is there something I am misssing?

We have 3 computers that have the latest itunes version and now we cannot see eachothers library anymore.  All of them are authorized. I unauthorized, reauthorized, in both the store and itunes to no avail.  Is this just the way the new version is designed or is there something we are missing? I recently wiped the computer clean of all Itunes songs/files after several years of my son managing his itouch on it, so we are all clean of previous files. What is the deal?

It most definitely is the browser that is causing most of the problems. I have used Firefox so long, I can't even remember. Maybe since its beginning. But today is a sad day. I gave up on it. I can't accomplish anything and end up spending hours troubleshooting. I see I am not alone. I am so sick of it "not responding." It's simply not worth it to spend so much time trying to make the thing work, so I can actually do something. Installed, removed, reinstalled numerous times, and I can't fix your software on my Win 7 Pro machine. No problems with IE or Chrome. So. as much as I hate Google Update, Chrome has won the test. Sad, sad day for me to lose Firefox, but it just does not work on the Win 7 machine. I don't have the same issues with the XP machine and have exactly all the same add-ons. Keep it up developers and you will have no Win 7 users at all.

  • Cannot see Networked computers and problems with WEP sign in

I recently installed a new HD (SAMSUNG HM500LI) into my 2.16GHz MacbookPro running 10.5.5 and transferred all my files using Apple's Migration Assistant.
Everything seems to have been working fine until I tried to log in to a friend's wireless network using a WEP password. OSX gives me the error message "Commection Timeout". I can however connect to other unsecured wireless networks on the list.
I have tried deleting the keychain access for the WEP network and reentering the correct password, but no success.
What I have also realised is that I cannot see other macs on my Network in finder any more.
Another point worth mentioning is that the Parallels NAT and Guest in Network preferences (for Parallels virtualisation software) have now automatically been renamed to Ethernet... (en2) and (en3).
I still have my original harddrive in an external casing and booted from that and everything worked perfectly - I can both log onto the WEP wireless internet and see other macs in my vicinity.
Can anyone help me here please? Are there maybe some settings that weren't migrated with the assistant? Could it be that my file sharing settings need altering? Did I maybe not format the new drive correctly (I just erased the new one and formatted it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled))? Has a recent Apple update maybe upset something, and if so, is there a way to uninstall it?
    Thank you in advance.

Hi Robbie, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Have you done any Maintenance since installing?
If not, at start with this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, move these files to the Desktop.
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Then delete the orignals & reboot once more.
On the WEP PW, try putting a Dollar Sign in front of it, like...
    $xxxxxxxxx
Also, is the WEP PW exactly 5 or 13 ASCII, or 10 or 26 HEX characters?

  • WRT100, poor performance from wireless computers

I updated firmware to version 1.0.02 a few weeks ago and have noticed that wireless clients have had some poor connection problems.
i have 3 laptops connected and one wired computer connected to the router.  the wired computer gets a consistant 55ms ping to a website, yet my wireless computers will sometimes drop packets and get latencies all over the map (from 55ms to as high as 2100ms).
the laptops are in the same room as the desktop computer.
the WRT100 is default settings, except for wireless security is configured for WPA2-personal (TKIP or AES).
sometimes the latencies get so high, i have to reboot the laptops or reset the router (which only works for a few minutes, then it starts acting up again).
is there anyway to downgrade to original factory firmware (i think it was version 1.0.0 )
    thanks

Try to adjust the Wireless Settings on the router rather than downgrading the firmware...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab-
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...
    - And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network.
    Click on Advanced Wireless-
settings>>Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation...
Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Ipad cannot see wireless network

Hi, I have a wireless network using several Cisco 1131AG wireless access points.  I have several Mac computers that see the wireless SSID and connect to the internet wirelessly.  However, Ipads and Iphones don't see the wireless network.  They cannot see the SSID at all.  I have tried ipad 2, iphone 4 and 5.  The network is not secured at this point.  Any help with this would be appreciated.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Problem connecting wireless computers

    Hi All
I have a WRT54G2 router with two wireless computers connected to a cable modem.
Computer #1  "HOME-PC"  Vista desktop with wireless Linksys usb adapter
Computer #2  "Laptop_PC"  New Laptop with Vista
I hard-wired the laptop to the router for the initial setup of the router, saved and printed all relevant information for logging on wirelessly. I did not venture any deeper into the setup...hoping the defaults will be fine. So as to avoid confusion...lets say I labeled the router as  SSID "My-Router".
I disconnect the hard-wire from the laptop.....I first check local signals on both the desktop and laptop and clearly see
    "My-Router" signal
I log on with the laptop and it works fine after entering the password.
When I check the local signal on my Desktop I can clearly see "LapTop-PC"  but no sign of "My-Router".
When I disconnect my Laptop from the router...I connect my Desktop to the "LapTop-PC" signal and I can log on.
Only one can log on at a time and I don't see My-Router signal anymore.
Both will log on if one remained hard-wired, and one is wireless, but I need both wireless.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Try this...Login to the setup page and under Wireless tab, change the channel to 11 and save settings...Now,click on the subtab "Advance Wireless" under Wireless and Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304.......Click on "Save Settings"...It should work for you !!!!

  • Wireless computers not connecting to internet

I had a great thing going. Cable modem connecting to Asante router. From router I had the main computer and two more ethernet connected devices and then a connection that went to my Airport Extreme Base Station (the previous dome shaped model), and a printer connected to the base station. Everything connected, printed and got along fine. Then my 6 year old router went out.
So here is what I am trying to do without the router. From Cable modem (motorola) to AEBS WAN port. Main computer to LAN port and printer in USB. I can connect to the internet from the Main computer and connect to any wireless computer. I can print from any computer. But none of the wireless computers can access the internet.
I've tried 5 hours of swapping cables, shutting down and restarting devices, re-configuring, and anything else I can think of to try. I'm out of ideas. Isn't this supposed to be a pretty basic configuration I am trying? No additional equipment, just modem to AEBS.
I can't find any valuable help on the support site so I thought someone might have an idea.
    Thanks.
    Keith

I got everything fixed if this helps anybody. I don't understand why it had to be like this but here is what I had to do.
I had to purchase a router to put between the modem and AEBS. But any device connected to the router directly cannot access the printer because it doesn't have a print server built in. I have my main computer plugged into the LAN port of the AEBS and it and all the wireless computers can print just fine.
I so thought the AEBS was a router, but apparently can't assign ip addresses or something. Maybe if I had the new AEBS it would work more like I wanted. But my issues is resolved for now.
If anyone has any further comments on this issue I would still like to hear them in case I am missing something.

  • Maximum number of wireless computers connected to BEFW11S4?

    I have 2 desktops, and 4 laptops.
Can I connect them all to the router at the same time?
I am having problems having all of my computers wirelessly connected at the same time, and I don't know why?

It is not easy to describe my ongoing problem.  Symptoms:  can connect a number of wireless computers, and then when trying to add an additional wireless computer by booting up, it searches for a connection, but reports "limited or no connectivity."  Also having to reboot both the modem and router on a daily basis.  My wife only connects with a wired connection thru her laptop.  I only use wireless laptop.  My daughter is wireless laptop.  Two desktops are set-up wireless now.  I don't think I have ever been able to bring both laptops and both desktops up at the same time wirelessly.
Additional crazy problem:  when I put a wireless card in my wife's laptop, she can get a good wireless connection, but can no longer invoke Internet Explorer....can't figure out why.
I run VPN on my laptop as it is a corporate computer.  All others in the house are non-VPN.

  • Airport Utility cannot see Airport Extreme Device even though connected to wireless network

I'm trying to set up a Macbook Air for my wife. I have a home network of four Airport Extremes that were configured in bridge mode with an authenticated SSID and one that is open for guests. On my PC my airport Utility sees all of the base stations and can configure them fine. On the Macbook air the utility cannot see any of the base stations no matter how many times I scan. The strange thing is that it can see both wireless networks. A fact that may be related to the problem is that the Macbook Air cannot authenticate into the secured SSID. The password is correct. Other machines (PC/Mac) all have no problem. Apple TV 2's, iPad's, and iPhone's all have no problem. I'm stumped.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

As usual in recent years, Apple creates and ships a problem (latest MacBook Air + Airport Extreme N + Airport Utility 6.1), and when multiple users encounter the problem, and post about it, nary an Apple supoort person to take ownership, so threads just die, like this one did. I'm having the same problem, and as a committed Apple customer, I just want to find any oither company to do business with.
(I'm sure connecting by wired Ethernet would work, but THE AIR DOESN'T HAVE AN ETHERNET JACK!!)
Love this community. Have had it with Apple.
