Wireless connection between to laptops
My girlfriend and I have the same laptop, powerbook g4 15 inch. Without being connected to the internet, i can use my built in airport extreme to creat my own wirelss network. I click the "create network..." button and the box comes up asking me to name the network and then I click okay and voila, the network is created. Now when my girlfriend chooses to connect to my computers network, it asks her for a login on name and I usually have to log on as my name. Now I wanted to know if I could create a logon name and password for her to use without creating a whole new account on my computer. I would just like to add that this network has nothing to do with connecting to the internet, or using a airport extreme base of any sort. I just want to be able to create and account for her to logon too to access the share folder from her laptop. This is purely using the two powerbook. Thanks.
thanks

Can't establish wireless connection between the printer and computer.
I recently upgraded my wireless to an Apple AirPort Time Capsule. I'm able to set up the printer via USB cable. And I'm able to set up the printer on the network via the Airport WPA utility. However I cannot establish a wireless connection between the computer and the printer. When I go to the printers window in my system prefereces, there is no wireless printer available to add in the "available printers" menu. Only the USB version printer is listed and of course when I disconnect the USB cable it shows as offline.I've tried all the fixes on HP's support pages. I've tried reinstalling the printer on both the router and the computer numerous times. The only thing I haven't done is reinstall the printer using the "Install Wizard" software that is supposed to come with the printer - (mine never came with it in the first place and of course HP doesn't have it available for download). And when I reset the printer to factory settings, then connect it to the computer via the USB, there is no installation software that pops up. Cant even find the **bleep** thing in "Finder". (I'm assuming that it should show up as some sort of external device.) I've checked to make sure both computer and printer are on the same network. (sometimes my computer will grab a connection with the next nearest network.) I've checked all the settings for the printer via the HTML configuration utility. I've even updated my Macbook software and restarted it multiple times. Note: the printer actually worked for a bit when I first switched routers, but the printer's wireless function went offline several times and then quit altogether. Really frustrated that I bought another HP product thinking this time things would be different. HP is no help unless you want to pay $$ for a phone call. I'm about ready to take this thing out in the desert to use for target practice and never buy another HP product ever again.
Hi , I saw your post regarding the problems you are having with your LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer not showing on your Macintosh computer. I may have found some resources for you.
I have a few questions for you, so I can offer some additional assistance:Before you upgraded to the Apple AirPort Time Capsule, was the printer working wirelessly without any issues?
When you say; 'I reset the printer to factory settings', how where you trying to do this?
I found some instructions from this post: How do I reset my Laserjet p1102w to its defaults, copied here for you:
To restore the printer back to factory settings, turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and the cancel button (x button) then turn the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise. (When they say turn the printer off, I think they mean unplug the power cable.)
"I've checked to make sure both computer and printer are on the same network." Do you know if you are able to access the printers Embedded Web Server (EWS)?To access the EWS - Make sure that the Ready light () is on and that the printer is idle and silent.Press and hold the Cancel button (), and release it when the Ready light () begins blinking. The configuration page prints.Type the IP address or host name of the product in the address field of a supported Web browser, and then press Enter on your keyboardLet me know if this page loads
To answer a few more items you have listed:... When I go to the printers window in my system preferences, there is no wireless printer available to add in the "available printers" menu. This could be an issue with your print system, I recommend resetting the printing system and then Repair Disk Permissions - after that try to add the printer again.
... the "Install Wizard" software that is supposed to come with the printer - (mine never came with it in the first place and of course HP doesn't have it available for download)HP provides their software/drivers to Apple to be released through your Apple software updates. You can review this document on how to Install a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update. Which leads into your next point...
... there is no installation software that pops upWhen you connect the USB cable your mac may still recognize the printer software as being already installed - check for apple updatesOn the Mac, click the Apple menu (), and then click Software Update, or click About this Mac, and then click Software Update. A list of available updates displays.
... Not seeing the printer in "Finder" From what I understand most printers will not show in Finder unless you install a memory card into a supported port on certain printer models, only then will it read it like an external device. A few more things you can check are that the new settings in the Apple AirPort Time Capsule are setup to allow the printer to communicate. There are several of these settings listed in this document; Tips and Workarounds for Common Wireless Network Printer Issues. HP regularly releases firmware updates that may also correct the problem you are experiencing. You can click on this link to Getting Printer Updates for HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer. I did find 2 more documents that may offer some additional information as well;HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer - Connecting the Printer After Changing Your Wireless NetworkAn 'Unable to Find Printer' Error Displays for the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer Please let me know if any of these steps resolved your issue, or the details of what happened. I look forward to hearing from you, hopefully with good news! Thanks, -
Wireless connection between two macs.
I have a Intel iMac downstairs and a G4 power pc iMac upstairs. The downstairs iMac has an internet connection, upstairs does not. What do i need to have a wireless connection between the two and how do i go about connecting the two computers?
Hi widge-
What you need will depend on which Macs are already wireless and which you will have to add.
There is a lot more information available here: AirPort + Time Capsule

Wireless connection between 2 buildings
My office is in a small separate structure on my residential property about 100 feet away from my 2 story house (both buildings are mostly wood frame, a lot of windows).
In the office is my computer system – internet access and a simple network:
Cable Modem
Linksys 2.4 GHz Wireless-B Router
2 PC's with Wireless-B
Mac Pro
Everything works excellent inside the office building (using wireless for the network and wired for the internet).
I just purchased a MacBook Pro for the house to access the internet and my files on my PC in the office. I tested it with the Linksys and just barely picked up some signal but mostly nothing.
I tried a Netgear WNDR3300 - their latest dual-band, with 5.0 N and 2.4 G. A very nice unit, worked out of the box, but no real additional signal strength.
I was thinking about trying 2 AirPort Extremes, one in the office building and one in the house.
What is someone’s best suggestion on how to create a solid wireless connection between 2 buildings (about 100 feet apart), not necessarily Apple equipment, and short of running an Ethernet cable between the 2 buildings.
I would like full wireless and wired access inside the office, and full wireless and wired access inside the house.Do you have direct line-of-sight between the two buildings?

Wireless connection between computer and HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer.
I just bought an HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One Printer - H711a. I want to have a wireless connection between my computer and my printer in order to place the printer in a different room. The instructions say that I need to give the name of my wireless network. Do they mean that I need a wireless internet connection? I absolutely don't want to go wireless on the internet. How do I go about this?
Replacing your wireless router now try.

Wireless connection between cable imac and laptop Windows,
This should be an easy question so here goes. I currently have an Imac with a cable connection. I plan to buy a Windows laptop within the next week. I want to be able to access the internet with the laptop from another room. There are airports and routers from Apple and wireless network cards for Windows. I'm confused. What's the simplest way for my Mac to wirlessly connect to the Window's laptop so that I can access the web from another room?
1. Your new laptop needs to have a wireless card.
2. You then need a wireless router with several lan ports.
The iMac will connect to the router via ethernet cable to one of the lan ports and your laptop should connect via the wireless connection. There are many wireless routers out there that will do the job. Check out the Linksys wrt54g. make sure your laptop comes with a wireless card built it. -
HP C4780 won't print even though it's wireless connected to my laptop and home network.
Help! I just moved and am trying to set up my Photosmart C4780 to my AT&T 2Wire router (my last router was Netgear and I had no problems with installation/setup). I installed the printer and it seems to be connected to my laptop (OS is Windows 7 32-bit)and network but it just won't print (excel, word, internet page, etc.). I've run the network configuration scan, wireless network report, print diagnostic, and hardware diagnostic. Everything checks out but the test page print will not print. When I try to print some from Word, it gives me a pop up error box saying "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup." I don't know what else to try!
Thanks in advance!Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

See if that works, also see if logging out & back in works. -
WRT54GS wireless connection drops on laptop when wired desktop is turned on.
I've had this router for a few years now and have never had a problem. But recently my laptop wireless connection dies when my desktop, which is connection via ethernet is turned on. In trying to fix the problem, I've upgraded the firmware, but that didn't end up working. I recently upgraded to vista from xp on the desktop computer, so I don't know if this is what started the problem. I don't recall if this problem started before I upgraded.
I don't know what sort of additional information you guys would need to help diagnose the problem, so just let me know and I'll get that info for you.
Thanks,
KurtCheck under Local Area Conneciton in Desktop that if there is any other connection except Local Area Connection is present ... if so then delete or disable that ...
Also check that if there is any USB connection from Modem to the Computer .... -
Cisco 1811W stopped allowing wireless connection of domain laptops
I have a Cisco 1811W that after several years in service suddenly stopped allowing any wireless connection to laptops on the domain. It allows hard wired connections and devices that are just using the wireless hot spot like iPads and Iphones but not devices on the domain. These same laptops connect wirelessly without issue at our other facilities which use the same hardware.

router#It was a two fold problem. There is another stronger Wi-Fi signal that exists at the facility from another entity on a different domain that the two laptops were trying to associate to in lieu of the network signal from our 1811. This could only be seen while watching the Intel wireless Proset app NOT the Windows wireless management app. Then by deleting all other old Wi-Fi networks listed in the Intel Proset app except ours it connected. Also set devices to never connect to the other signal. This was not an issue when I brought the laptop to another faciIity without a competing Wi-Fi signal becuase they would connect using the strongest and ONLY Wi-Fi network signal which was ours.

Wireless connection between D-Link WiFi router and Time capsule stopped working
We have an ISP provided D-Link wireless router (DIR-615) to which we wirelessly connected our 2Tb Time Capsule for back up and to connect a USB printer to out network. This worked perfectly for 3 1/2 years, until about a month ago, when the time capsule suddenly decided to go "off line". ie we could no longer access it or the printer via our wireless network. We had changed nothing - just one day it stopped working.
We tried to get it back online with no success. As the 2Tb Time Capsule was almost 7 years old and had had some HDD issues in the passed, we figured it had got old and died and that it was time to replace it; so we bought a new 3Tb Time Capsule, thinking this would get everything back to normal.
However much as we tried, we were also unable to get the new 3Tb Time Capsule to connect wirelessly to the D-Link wireless router. The Airport Utility did not show the D-Link wireless router or its wireless network, although we were (and are) able to see it in Systems Preferences>Networks from all our multiple devises. This in itself seemed odd. No matter what we tried, the Airport Utility would not find the D-Link wireless router and hence we could not add the 3Tb Time Capsule to the existing wireless network.
At the end of the day we got fed up with trying to add the 3Tb Time Capsule to the D-Link wireless network, and connected it via a LAN cable to the D-Link router instead. We then set it up as its own network. Worked gerat. Having done that we thought maybe the old 2Tb Time Capsule might not have been the problem after all, so we tried extending our new 3Tb Time Capsule wireless network using the 2Tb Time Capsule wirelessly. This worked perfectly! And we are now almost back to what we wanted.
So although we have a work around, this means now have 2 separate wireless networks as opposed to the original single wireless network where everything talked to everything else.
Can anyone shed any light on any of the following:-
1. Why the original wireless network connection between the D-Link router and the 2Tb Time Capsule just stopped working? Was there some software change from Apple that "decided" D-Link wireless routers were no longer secure; and therefore the TCs could no longer connect to them?
2. Why it was not possible to extend the existing D-Link wireless network using the the new 3Tb Time Capsule?
3. Is there is anyway that we can get back to a single wireless network based around the D-Link wireless router as the primary router connecting to the modem, where the 2 Time Capsules connect as "wireless satellite base stations"?1. A firmware update to the TC came along and you agreed to it without perhaps even noticing.. it then smashed your setup because Apple do not recommend the setup you were using and it is very poor.
2. Why it was not possible to extend the existing D-Link wireless network using the the new 3Tb Time Capsule?
Because it is such a poor setup that Apple have taken away your ability to choose it unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Yes, this I can help you with.
I have several ways around the problem.. but the first one is.. why use the DIR-615 at all.. it is not a modem.. it is a very ordinary bottom end, poor single band slow wireless router.
Why don't you simply remove the DIR-615 from the network completely.. plug whatever it is the ISP supplies you.. an ethernet connection from whatever that modem is you mentioned into the WAN port of the Time Capsule. And use the TC in some router mode.. same as the DIR-615 was setup.. dhcp or pppoe or whatever.. I doubt the TC cannot match it.
If you have issues please post a few screenshots from the DIR-615 to show how it is setup from the WAN side.. and as long as you are given the username and password or whatever the ISP uses to authenticate then chuck out the DIR-615.
Tell me if that is a goer.. if not we can work out a few other methods..
eg. Simply turn off the wireless in the DIR-615. It is poor cf the TC and there is no need for it.. with the TC in bridge only use the TC for wireless as well as wireless extend with your old TC.
Or setup roaming network where everything uses the same SSID.
Then you will have one wireless network. And it won't matter what as long as it connects.. although IMHO this is not right as the TC is such a superior router now you are wasting your new TC. -
How to secure wireless connection with additional laptop and ipod touch.
Hello,
We are new to Mac and struggling with internet security.
We have a wireless internet dongle that connects into a USB port and some days our ipod touch can connect other days it cant, I am never prompted for a password to connect. This morning we were setting up a new laptop for our daughter and it found our wireless network and informed us it was unsecured. So we assume anyone within range is utilising our wireless connection.
If I turn on firewalls it shuts off everything, if we look at airport we get even more confused.
Is there a simple way to resolve this so our internet connection is for our house only and new devises that try to connect need to enter a password.
Thank you for your help!Describe the equipment in your network. Modem? Router?

Problems with wireless connection between new macbook and older imac
I have just bought a 2.0 ghz macbook core2duo and am unable to connect to my wireless internet network at home. My wireless connection is set up through the airport card in my 17" flat panel imac (i.e. I am using the imac as the internet base station). I had an old clam shell macbook (which just died hence the new macbook) and still have a 400 mhz graphite SE iMac which both connec(ed) to the network perfectly for years. But the new macbook will not connect. It will connect when connected via ethernet. The imac uses Tiger.
I have tried resetting the name of the network, using encryption and not using encryption, but nothing helps. The macbook appears to see the network (although no bars register in the airport connection icon) but I always get an error message when trying to connect.
Does anyone have any ideas?
ThanksI am not actually using a router as I am using the airport card (non express i believe) in my iMac to send the wireless signal. My modem is Motorola but not sure which model. I have Comcast cable internet service

Need help with selecting an LCD TV that can wirelessly connect to my laptop
I specifically need to have the ability to view my laptop's display wirelessly on the tv. My office is going to use it as a presentation display so when I'm in a power point presentation on my laptop it is actually displayed on the tv. Please let me know what tv's allow this or if there is an accessory I can purchase to make the connection. I'm hoping there is a blue tooth type option or a USB receiver that can be used.
I have an LG 55" TV that allows me to stream from my router to the TV via cat5. It isDLNA compatible, so it can receive signals from any compatible device.

Can't get wireless connection to Gateway laptop
My wife has a school-district issued Gateway laptop- state of the art. We can't get connected to the internet at home using our new airport express. The imac gets on fine, and the gateway gets on if we simply plug the modem into the computer, but nothing wirelessly. It's works for her at her job, it works in coffee shops. Her tech person told her it's equiped to work at home with adding any software, but we get nothing. Something we're supposed to tweak?
