Wireless Connection to Sony XBR9

I have just purchased a Sony XBR9 with a LAN input, an Airport Extreme 802.11n and an Airport Express 802.11n. My intent is to connect (hardwire) the Extreme in one room to my Dell & modem and the Express to the XBR9 in another room on the same floor. The manuals make no mention of this type of set-up but I believe I must set the Express to 'Bridge' mode to accomplish this.
Am I on the right track?
Have I purchased the correct equipment to achieve this?
Do I load both utilties on my PC?
My knowledge of Home Theater is excellent, my computer knowledge not so!!
Any and all guidance will be greatly appreciated.

On that basis (and noting the final comment of my original post!) could you please provide me with step-by-step instructions for setting up the Extreme and the Express.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) as a wireless client and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz. (Note that the Express, which ships with firmware 7.3, must also be updated to firmware 7.3.1 for this feature to appear.)
Start by performing a "Factory Default" reset on the AXn.
To set up the AXn as a "Wireless Client," using the AirPort Utility, either connect to the AXn's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AXn, and then, make these settings:
o Launch the AirPort Utility.
o Select the AXn.
o If not already connected to the AXn's wireless network, go ahead and switch to it when prompted.
AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <type in the network name/SSID of the wireless network that you want to join or select it from the pop-up menu>
o Wireless Security: None
OR, if you are using security on your wireless network:
o Wireless Security: <Select the appropriate level of security for the existing wireless network: 40-bit WEP|128-bit WEP | WPA Personal | WPA Enterprise>
o Password: <enter your wireless network security password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the same security password>
o Allow Ethernet Clients (check)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AXn.
which 'utility' do I load to the PC; the Extreme or the Express or both
Actually either as the same utility comes on each of the CDs provided with the AirPorts.

I have a wrt54g v5 with Firmware Version: v1.02.0 and the PSP has firmware version 3.11.
I shut off all security use DHCP (I also used manual settings)  If I scan for a network I can see it and it show 100% signal strength.
But if I try to connect it tells me it can not locate an access point.  I scanned the site, I reduced my becon times my rts and fragmentation times, still no progress.
I also have a WII and it also can not connect to the open wireless network.  Yet when I scan for it, the Wii can see it as well.
I know it's my network and not somebody elses these divices are seeing as I have a very unique name for my network.

I dont think my  router is bad but I read the forums and half the people can connect with their WII's and PSP's no problem and the other half, like me flounder.  I setup wireless networks for a living and these games have me beat.

  • How do I wirelessly connect my iPad 4 to a Sony Bravia TV?

My Sony Bravia KDL-32W653A recognises that my iPad4 is on my LAN. But I just can't get the iPad content ( videos ) to show up on the TV screen.
The iPad Settings shows the " direct -GC-Bravia" other connection, but it wants to revert to my (John Lewis wireless connection.
If I tap on the other, Bravia panel I am asked for a password. I don't have a password for it and never have had. If I try to use my Apple password or that of my Sony support log-in or even my LAN home group , the iPad just messages:-  "Unable to connect to Diect-GC-Bravia"
I seem to go round in circles and get nowhere- Can anyone out there who has an iPad 4 (retina display AND a Sony Bravia TV help me please?
Maybe even a Sony employee? who owns a similar iPad?
    Davidthebass.

You dont.  Apple won't allow widely used standards and Sony is so behind the times in this area it's painful and almost as bad.  Apple forces you to buy an Apple TV whereas Sony forces you to own an android phone to do this natively.  Surprise!
disappointed I started my smartphone tenure with Apple; had no idea how badly it was going to burn me in about 100 different ways over the years.  All they have on android these days is more efficient hardware...: and since they don't take advantage of it... It's a moot point at the price premium.
as for Sony.  I just spent more than I did on my last car for their flagship and id be satisfied if it costed about 75% less and wasn't a "smart" TV.  Since it is - and this is 2015; the cost coupled with the inability to properly stream or mirror from.... Meh.  Not gonna waste another word.  If neither get it by now, they never will.  Talk with your wallet guys, it's the only language they understand.  Unfortunately they are wise enough to know the sheep outnumber dramatically so it's in vain anyhow.

I cannot connect a Sony ILCE6000 camera for wireless downloading. Sony feels I need DLNE? They do not know how to make it work. Can anyone help OS10·9·5

I cannot use the software.. so you need to figure out where the problem is..
But let me suggest.. the Mac is not the issue and likely the info from Sony is also up the creek.. they make PC's after all.
It is far more likely the camera is having issues with the wireless network.
Do you know you have a connection to the home network on the camera.. ?? You have an IP address and some internet or local access at least?
How you will discover those things is by fiddling.. but if you can tell me what wireless AP you are using that will help.

Connecting my Sony BD player to my MacBook Pro wireless network.  It sees the network but it then asks for a WPA security key.  Where do I find this key?

    Hi Michael,
It sounds like your router's authentication is set to WPA and thus where the key is established. Does your MacBook Pro connect to a wireless router? If so, that's where you'd need to get the key from via a web-based control panel for the router or if it's an AEBS via AirPort Utility.

  • Connection of Sony PSP to iMac wirelessly

Is it possible to connect a Sony PSP and my iMac provided that PSP can only be connected to any computer through Wi-Fi?
Is the built-in Airport good enough for that? I don't use it, because my internet is working through Ethernet (I've got a cable modem), so I have no clue of its capabilities.
    Thanks for your ideas.
    Mike

I don't have a PSP so I don't know for sure, but you can use your iMac's airport as a wifi hotspot. go to the wifi menu icon in the top right corner, when you turned airport on there will be an option "Create Network...", use that to create a wifi network then try connect to that using your PSP.

  • How to connect a Sony Bravia TV to the internet through your Airport network

Since it took me a lot of time to figure out how to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the internet through my Airport network, I better share how to do it. Hopefully saving others a lot of time.
My 32EX600 Sony Bravia TV is Ethernet connected to my Mac Mini, which is part of my Airport network, together with another Mac, an Airport Extreme Base Station and an ADSL modem/router. Moreover, the Mac Mini is connected to the TV by HDMI.
Whatever I tried in the TV’s Wired Network Set-up (Auto, or Manual with manual IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS IPs), I couldn’t get it right. Cable Connection and Local Access were mostly OK, Internet Access always Failed.
The solution lies in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences of the Mac Mini. In the Internet Sharing item of that panel, you should choose to “share your internet connection from WiFi to computers (the TV in this case) using Ethernet“, and NOT (as I had chosen before and seemed so obvious) “share your internet connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet“. After that change, the Bravia Network Set-up, using the Wired and Auto options, flawlessly connected to the internet. No expensive (Sony) WiFi USB dongle needed.

I have now had a detailed reply from Sony Europe and the way to do this is to:
    1.       Press Home on the TV Setup
    2.       Use the right and left arrow to select Setting.
    3.       Use the up and down to select Network, press Enter.
    4.       Select Network Setup.
    5.       Select Wireless setup.
    6.       Select Scan
    7.       Select your network
    8.       A new screen will appear asking for entering the security key.
    9.       Enter your WPA2 key.
    10.   Select Enter.
    11.   It will take you back to the same screen asking for entering the
    security key.
    12.   Press the right arrow.
    13.   Select Auto.
    14.   Press the right arrow.
    15.   Select Save and connect.
These instructions are not the same as shown on the TV but they worked fine for me so they may help others with a similar problem.

how to connect my sony blue ray play to wifi via my airport utility?

The airport utility has nothing whatever to do with the sony bluray player.
The airport utility is to setup wireless in the airport.. once you setup wireless then you use the sony setup for wireless in the player as per its manual.
Please do keep the wireless names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
As well as pure alphanumeric passwords if you want to do this successfully.

  • Macbook keeps dropping wireless connection

    Hi
this is my first post so be gentle with me LOL
I have had many issues with BT over the last 8 months, mostly due to the speed I had in my area (was 0.45MB when wired at one point), but I recently started to have an issue with the laptops in the house.
I have 2 teenagers and luckily for them we all have Macbooks as I have given them my old ones when I have upgraded I am using a macbook pro (less than a year old & wireless N) and my eldest boy is using a Macbook (about 6 years old with wireless G) you might see where I'm going here....
the problem is the older macbook keeps losing connection on the wireless, I have called and spoken to the 1st line support guys in India but it's a bit of luck if you can understand them let alone find someone who knows what they are doing. As I work in IT I completely understand and normally ask them to read my notes before advising me especially as I had so many issues last year when I was given a number to get through to the priority care team LOL , so far I have tried the following:
moving the Hub 3 to several locations around the house
    reinstalling snow leopard
    using a wireless dongle
I live in the middle of nowhere so there are no other houses around which have a hub3 sp none can be affecting me and I've checked this by using programs like inSIDDer.
Finally I thought I'd take it to work to see if I could get the model number of the wireless card and order a new one and guess what it works fine!! So I thought I'd check at a friends and again it works fine for the whole time I'm there.
Brought it home and it won't stay connected GRRRAAA!!!!!!!
I've heard that the hub3 doesn't like having a wireless N & and wireless G laptops on the connecting at the same time is this correct? Has anyone else heard of this?
finnally I do have windows machines in the house and none of them  (2 laptops and a desktop which is wired) are having an issue but the Sony TV which is wired directly in to the hub will also drop connection randomly between 8 PM and 10 PM every day so I'm leaning towards the hub being a rubbish router instead of the problem lying with my Macbook

  • W7 PCs on router LAN port can not find Wireless connected OJ Pro 8500A Plus following router upgrade

My Broadband Supplier has replaced my internet router with a new one with dual N band Wireless and GigE LAN ports. The 8500A printer has been successfully WPA wirelessly connected and works fine with a wireless connected Sony windows 7 laptop and Apple devices.  However neither of the Dell LAN connected windows 7 desktop PCs or the same Sony laptop when connected to a LAN port on the router can find the printer.  I have tried reinstalling the printer software with the latest version from the HP site OJ8500_A910_1315 and the installation fails as network environment checker can not find the printer. I have run the HP network diagnostics with both firewalls in the PC and router disabled with no success. The LAN itself seems to be working OK as the PCs can see each other, exchange files and and can access the internet.  The router has been checked by the broadband supplier technical uupport.  The printer is visible as a network connected device in Windows explorer so you would expect the HP software to see it. Is the only option to fix the printers IP address and use that in the installion procedure or are there other settings I can alter to get the HP network environment checker to work properly?  Thoughts would be appreciated.
    This question was solved.

In the router settings look for "wireless isolation", "AP isolation" or the like and make sure it is DISABLED.  This setting disables communication between the wired and wireless clients.

  • WRT160N Wireless Connection Crashes

I have a Linksys WRT160N v3 wired/wireless router.  It is currently running firmware version 3.0.00 build 010 dated Feb 3, 2009.  I have been experiencing issues with the wireless connection dropping while streaming audio/video or while transferring files over the network.
I have 2 desktop PCs which are attached via wired ports 1 and 2 on the router.  One of those PCs has a 1.5TB storage drive where I keep my music and videos.  I have a MacBook Pro 17 and a PS3 that I connect to the network wirelessly.  The MacBook Pro is set up with Boot Camp, running Snow Leopard as well as Windows XP Professional SP3 and has a built-in Atheros 5416 a/b/g/n wireless card.  The PS3 is a second generation 120GB model running Sony's latest firmware.
While streaming music or videos or transferring files to either the MacBook or the PS3 from one of the desktop PCs, the wireless connection randomly goes dead.  The 2 desktop PCs remain connected and their internet connections remain active.  The PS3 displays a network connection error and the MacBook says that no wireless connection is available (this happens in Snow Leopard and Windows XP).  The wireless activity indicator light on the router goes out.  After 3 to 5 minutes all of my wireless devices are able to reconnect, but if I begin to stream any content, the wireless connection goes dead again.
Both the MacBook and PS3 are able to access the internet and stream online videos (primarily through Netflix) without causing the wireless connection to crash.  I have watched entire series through the Netflix streaming service without ever experiencing a wireless crash and watching online content through YouTube or Hulu does not cause the connection to crash.  Also, listening to internet radio over the wireless connection does not cause it to crash.
I have tried running the router with Security Mode sent to disabled and with it set to WPA2 Personal-AES.  The same crashes occur either way.  The Network Mode is set to Mixed (otherwise the PS3 is unable to connect) and the Channel Width and Channel options are set to auto.
Will applying a firmware update solve this problem or are there other tweaks that can be performed to fix this issue?  I would prefer not to purchase a new router if there is some way to fix this one.  Thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer.
    -MrCaffeineX

Before you upgrade the firmware of your Router, try to make some changes on your router and check if that solves your problem or not.
Login to the router setup page and click on the Wireless tab and below change the "Radio Band to : Standard 20MHz" and change the Channel to 11-2.462GHz" and click on Save Settings... Then click on the Sub tab under Wireless "Advance Wireless Settings" and below Change the Beacon Interval to 50,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2201,Change the RTS Threshold to 2202 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Often lose wireless connection when using HDTV as monitor

I have an unusual wireless networking problem when using my Samsung HDTV in my living room as a monitor for my MacBook (when watching Internet TV shows, for example). Frequently when I switch URLs, networking freezes, even though the connection appears strong, with the Airport symbol at the top of my screen showing all bars. To re-establish the wireless connection, I have to go through the process of re-joining my network through the “Join Other Network" option. The signal holds as long as I don’t try to change it, as in selecting another URL.
I connect to my HDTV via HDMI cable, using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter from my Macbook’s video-out port. The audio connection is a mini-plug from the Mac’s headphone out jack to stereo RCA plugs associated with the TV’s HDMI port.
The wireless connection is through a Lynksys Wireless-G 2.4 Ghz, 54 Mpbs Broadband router.
I’d appreciate any solutions the Apple user community has to offer.

I'd say this has nothing to do with your display. The problem will likely lie in either your router settings, network settings or a simple signal strength issue. Try first changing the broadcast channel on your router, and make sure all settings are correct for your desired network.

  • Can't configure Wireless Connection to HP OfficeJet Pro L7780

I recently purchased both my iMac 24" 2.8GHz computer with OS x 10.5.2 and HP OfficeJet Pro L7780. I was able to use the HP setup CDs for my Windows laptops and configured them to use the printer in a wireless configuration.
The iMac is creating the headache (actually I think it's HP causing the headache). When I try to install HP's driver 9.7.1 using their utility, it is unable to detect the L7780 in a wireless configuration. The moment I connect via USB or wired Ethernet, the printer is detected without a problem. My printer is located @ 192.168.1.30, fixed IP address via a NetGear FSW308 switch. My iMac is fixed @ 192.168.1.100 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1
I spent hours on the phone with HP support and am still in the same spot... HP software won't find the printer when it is wireless. I can configure OS x 10.5.2 to use the internal L7700 series driver and put the IP address in the dialog box. The printer prints without issue using the OS printer drivers, but the other features such as scan and fax will not work without the HP software.
I can ping the printer and I can connect to the printer's EWS, but the HP software will not find the software.
Overall config: iMac wireless network connection to switch; Printer also wireless connection to switch.
So far HP is dumbfounded and all they can say is that I should call Apple because the printer software works fine when I connect the Ethernet or USB cables.
    HELP!
    Thanks,
    Roland

Thank you for the thought. Yes, although my SSID is public, I have a WEP 128-bit security key. The printer, the iMac and my Windows laptops all connect to the wireless network without issue, as evidenced by my Windows laptops and iMac (if I use the driver included with OS X 10.5.2).
I can ping the printer from the iMac as well as connect to the printer's web interface, so connectivity exists. It is as if the setup software or the printer are trying to communicate using a port that or service that OS X may be blocking.
My OS X firewall is configured to accept all connections though... so that shouldn't be the issue unless there is a bug in accepting all connections.
    Thanks,
    Roland

I get wireless connection but my internet does not work on my ipad 2

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
