You may find this application useful. It allows you to use an xbox controller on OS X. I can't confirm whether the wireless controllers work -do they have a USB dongle? or Bluetooth ?

  • Is there a FREE Parental Controls software for Mac?

Does anyone know of a free parental controls software for Mac? I have OS 10.3.9 and don't want to (or need to) get 10.4 +. Thus I can't run safari 2.0 or later and I want to have parental controls. I suspect it's out there but I can't seem to find it. TIA all.

For Tiger, Workgroup Manager (part of the free Tiger Server Admin Tools) offers greatly expanded account management options than what the built-in Parental Controls offers. OS X Server is not required; it works great on the regular OS X.
There was a version for Panther too, but I never tried it, so I don't know if it will do what you need. But the screen shot on the download page suggests that it might. You might want to download it yourself and try it out:

You might also try asking your question in the "OS X 10.3 and earlier" forum here in the discussions. This forum is for Tiger only.

  • Can't print wirelessly since Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4

I have an HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One, and have been printing wirelessly from my Macintosh (OS 10.5.7) since I purchased the printer in December 2008. However, after I installed the Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4, I suddenly lost the ability to print wirelessly. I've spent hours on my own and on the phone with HP trying to figure this out, with no success. When I uninstall and reinstall the printer, I can get to the point in the HP Setup Assistant in which the network configuration has been successfully downloaded to the printer (I see an IP address, Subnet Mask, etc.), but then I get an error message of "Device Not Reachable . . . please make sure that your Mac has access to the network and retry." My Mac does have access to the network because I can get on the internet wirelessly.
I've tried entering the IP address manually, etc.--but nothing has worked. It's as if the printer is on the network, and the computer is on the same network, but they somehow can't talk to each other. Anyone else notice this problem, and how do I solve it?? Thanks in advance for your time!

Hello Laura C. I haven't noticed any problems with my wireless connections to my Canon printers, at home or at work, and I have the Update 4 installed. I also cannot think how this update would have impacted your ability to connect to the printer, except maybe due to a reliance of the HP software using Java to operate. But this should not have stopped your existing connection from working, only a new connection...
Apologies in advance if you have already been through the following, but if you were successful in entering an IP address manually, I would then check that you can get a response from the printer. The best tool to use is Ping. Open Applications > Utilities > Network Utility. Here you will see the Ping tab, as well as several other IP tools.
Before you select Ping, select Info (it probably has defaulted to this). This pane shows you the current IP address settings for your Mac. Since you are using wireless, change the drop menu from en0 (which is Ethernet) to en1 (wireless). This will show your current IP address set in the Mac. Make a note of this.
Now select the Ping tab and enter the IP address of the HP. Change the number of pings to 4 and press the Ping button. If the addresses are correct and the network infrastructure working you should get a response. If you get something like " 4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss", then that would explain the unreachable message.
The biggest cause of this symptom is subnetting. To explain further, an IP address consists of two parts, the subnet and network address. The subnet is determined by the subnet mask. If you have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, the your subnet is the first three sets of numbers in your IP address and the network address is the last number. For example, an IP address of 10.0.1.10 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has a subnet of 10.0.1 and a network address of 10. For devices to communicate on a local network, they typically need to have the same subnet and a different network address. Can you confirm the subnets for the Mac and printer are the same and the network addresses are different.
If you get responses to the Pings, which indicates the IP addressing is okay, the other services like firewalls can stop some printer utilities from working correctly. Have you checked your System Preferences > Security > Firewall setting is set to allow all incoming connections?

  • Version control tool for Mac OS X?

    Hi all
If using labview on Mac OS X,
do you have some version control tools to recommend?
    Thanks  a lot

As far as i know, LV for Mac does not integrate with source code control provider. LV for Windows has two requirements for this:
    a) Professional Development Environment
    b) A source code control provider compatible to the Microsoft Source Interface
There is still always (Mac, Linux and Windows alike) the possibility to control source files using the SCC providers client software.
Many open source project SCCs like CVS or Git integrate, at least in Windows, in the File Explorer.
I recommend you to research possible solutions like this for Mac.
The next question is if you want to use a distributed SCC or a local one. Depending on this, you will have to setup a network server with compatible provider (e.g. RhodeCode).
LV provides both a Diff and Merge tool as EXE (Professional). I am not sure if this is also true for the Mac version, so look for "LVCompare" and "LVMerge".
    hope this helps,

  • End user control panel for Mac OS X server

I have searched and searched, then I read and read. It has been 4 days now and I have found no answer to my question. Is there an end-user control panel for the OSX server? I host many sites and I am trying to set up a server then swich over to it.
I would like to offer my customers a control panel so they can look at logs, add e-mail addresses, access an overview of the domains they have on the server, access (or add) folders to the webspace and set up FTP access to those folders.
I can admin the server just fine. The customers will not be able to do these things with the tools provided. I have looked a cPanel, plesk, webmin, etc. etc. There is just no straight answer if these products will work on my software. Does any one here have an answer or possibly provide a link?
MacBookPro, macMini, iMac, Xserve, macBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

How about iTools from Tenon ? As far as I read in their documentation, they offer the ability to get a web-based end user control panel for your users (see their manual at http://www.tenon.com/products/itools-osx/iTools8Manual.pdf page 83 and further).
The product website is at http://www.tenon.com/products/itools-osx/
I can't say much about their software, I just shortly considered them as a replacement of SA and WGM, but it may what you look for.

  • Parental Control Software for mac

I recently downloaded if2k for macintosh as a parental software. It works great, but now I cannot successfully download quotes on my Quicken software.
Does anyone know of a fix for this or if not, does anyone know of a good parental control software for Macintosh? I realize that Safari has one but we home school and cannot seem to keep up with the list of websites we would have to add to the toolbar to work it successfully.

    Hi Doublemann,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Create another User Account for each member of the family. You can create also one named "Family", "Team", etc, and one "Home School".
Keep only two admin accounts, and all children accounts managed, or standard with your parental control software enabled.
That way your children's limited accounts do not mix with your admin accounts.
Use Quicken on your own account, not on the Home School one.

  • Wireless storage solution for mac and pc network?

I am trying to figure out a way for my pc's and power book to share files through a shared wireless hard drive. I need a new hard drive anyway, as mine is just about filled, but it seems silly to save all of my music to each computer instead of one location that all of them can access. Linksys has one, model # EFG250. Does anyone know if it will work. Will it work with a mac? Are there other solutions out there?

You can always set up a network and keep the music on one computer and point all the other computers to that one library. I keep all my music on my iMac and have my BlackBook and three PCs pointed to it to share the music over the network.
Those NAS drives are very expensive for what you get. Since you are planning on upgrading your drive, get a large drive and save the money.
If you really want to do this externally, the new Airport Express base station has a USB port in it that can be used to access an external drive over the network. I understand you can also use a USB hub to hook more than one drive into it.
That might be worth looking into.

  • Cooling pad for Mac Mini

Does anyone uses cooling pad with a Mac Mini. If so, could you please provide some suggestions? I am not looking for a bigger one, rather it should occupy minimum space and fits the mac mini. Thanks.

The devices available to allow a Mini to set on its side, appear viable if practical in
the space you have available for your gear. An older Mini I have can stay on its
side without a holder-upper; the newer one is too thin that direction to allow it.
For now, I've found that four similar height re-used items that can fit under the
corners of the Mini, keep it elevated further off the desktop, help keep it cooler.
These could be durable thermal plastic, or just cut-offs of similar shape metal
so the computer sits flat. Since the newer Mini has that round base, if you do
set up something to raise it off the surrounding surface, take that into account
because that may also add to instability should the items be dissimilar.
I'd considered, if available super cheap (at second hand store, etc) that one of
those 'aluminum food thawing trays' but square and not rectangular, may work.
It would raise the unit up, while Mini would still rest on the round base, though.
Since heat rises; the exit is in the back of the Mini, intake is around the base.
The bottom does not get all that hot, due to internal air-flow & metal conductivity.
I prefer my method of raising the entire unit up, flat, above the desk. In part this
was due to concerns of spillage of liquid near the Mini, while on a desktop. An
upside down small metal pan, or a baking rack may do, too. And I'd want to be
able to filter dust from all air going into the Mini - without restricting the flow, too.
Anyway, other than one of the command-line tests to run up all the cores at once
to test it, there isn't much I've done to make a quad-core reach top temperatures.
Hopefully yours works OK and doesn't get near the thermal maximum...

  • What is the best parental control software for mac?

    Hi!
I'm starting to teach my son (8 years old) in the use of Mac computer and I would like to have suggestions about the best software to be installed for a good parental control.
There is the possibility to localize two language (english and italian)?
thank you in advance for the suggestions!

Every account you set up can be localized in a different language if you want.  So you can have yours in Itallian and your son's in English.  The language is determined by what is at the top of the list in system prefs/language & text/language.  You just drag the one you want there and logout/login.

  • Whic wireless router best for Mac

Hi. I am looking to connect our other Mac G4 tower to the internet via a wireless router but am unsure of which one to use.
Both G4's are running OS 10.3.9.

    Thanks for any assistance!

    G4 1.25 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi, joni02. I don't know that this is the "best" option, but I recently bought a NetGear WGR614 router to replace an older wireless router that had died. Compared with the allegedly very Mac-friendly Asante unit it replaced, the NetGear router was an absolute snap to set up, with clear directions and a very simple browser-based setup interface. It also tripled the range I had had with the older router — a completely unexpected benefit.
I might add that I also bought a pair of NetGear XE102 Powerline adapters to enable my son to use his Aluminum Powerbook (which has truly pitiful wireless range with its Airport Extreme card) in his room, far away from the router. The XE102s use household electrical wiring to carry an Ethernet signal from the router to his Powerbook. This is a good alternative to wireless networking, where radio interference is a problem and the computers that need to be networked are remote from each other and mostly stationary.

  • Introduction of Bebo, a control pad for SAP sessions

    Hello community,
Bebo for is a small utility to watch, navigate and control all SAP sessions of the SAP GUI for Windows. Bebo is an acronym, in long description it means Best Boy. A Best Boy is the first assistant of the lighting technician in movie production, he do all the technical work - like Bebo. With Bebo you see all sessions, which supports SAP GUI scripting, clearly arranged in a tree. Also you can direct execute a transaction or a script to one of these sessions. The available transaction codes, scripts or other actions are an easy and individual customizing in a preference file. So you can organize your favorite activities in a tree as you want - one time for all application servers. Also you see in a collection list all other sessions.
With a simple click in the session tree or collection list you can choose the session you want and it is direct on top of all the open windows. If you click the right mouse button, it opens a popup menu and you can close the session or the connection, or you can resize the session window or or or ... And with a simple double click in the transaction tree you send a transaction code or a script to the selected session from the session tree. With the possibilities of the toolbar you can e.g. minimze all sessions with one single click, or restore it. Bebo helps you in the jungle of sessions and connections - it is a point of view.
Bebo is freeware and you find it [here|http://www.stschnell.de/bebo.htm]. Suggestions and comments are welcome.
    Cheers

    Dear Aditya,
You may not be shame of what you seen in the wizard, because that code is not written by a single abaper and the cutomised that you have developed is what may a single abaper can do.SAP has given all flexibility to fulfill the Business Requirements, after all SAP is also a Product. As the technology is growing the amount of work increases .In order to make reduce redudant code throught  SAP .It has given all the wizards to help a Abaper to complete the work with less time.
