Wireless disabled by windows 8 update
Today Windows interupted me and told me it would reboot in x minutes as it was doing an update. When it concluded, I had lost all network connectivity. I have spent the last 4 hours reseting, disabling, enabling the network adapter, rebooting, changing drivers all to no avail.
What has Microsoft done to my Window 8 and the wireless function, how do I get the unit connected to my wireless network again. Right now it's just a big paperweight.
I would like to help you, but identifying your HP PC with its CPU name really does not help me help you at all.
1. The complete Model Name. or Product Number. of the notebook - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number.
Microsoft didn't do anything if you had Windows update set to automatic. You allowed it to happen. Take control of your PC by changing the setting to notify me when an update is available, but let me choose whether to download and install them. Use the search charm and type in Windows update. Click on the change windows update settings icon.
Option 1:
If you post the PCI\VEN information for your wireless adapter I should be able to find a driver for you. Enter the device manager. Right click on the wireless adapter and then provide the PCI\VEN character string from the hardware ids dropdown.
Option 2:
You can also use system restore to rollback your system to the state ot was in before the driver no longer worked. Choiose a restore point dated before the isssue happened.

Satellite A210 touchpad scrolling disabled after Windows Vista update
Last week I accepted a Microsoft Windows update. Sine that update I can not get the Satellite to recognise its touchpad and the only driver updates that work are for a standard PS2 mouse. I can no longer use the bottom and side scroll features of the Toshiba touchpad. What drive am I looking for to rstore the touchpad please?
You can find the Touchpad driver here: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Firstly remove the driver from Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Then download and install the latest version.
If you have Logitech mouse drivers or other 3rdparty mouse/keybiard drivers installed, remove those as well. -
Group Policy to disable ability to turn off wireless networking in Windows 8.1 Update
I am wanting to disable the ability to turn off wireless networking in our Windows 8.1 Update clients using Group Policy. We are a school that runs classroom management software enabling the teachers to view what the students have on their screens.
Students just switch off their wireless to avoid detection. I have searched the Group Policy listings and can't find anything.
Thanks.Hi GeoffAUS,
I can’t find a direct group policy to disable the users’ ability to turn off the wireless network in Windows 8.1.
If we just disable the display of wireless connection, we will need to additionally disable the ability that disabling the driver in device manager.
We could try the workaround to use UAC to control the wireless connection.
Go to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policy->Security Options, and set the option
User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users.
Please make sure the computer automatically connect to Wireless.

After windows 7 update kb/3006137, all extensions are disabled.
This is the second time I have installed a windows 7 update and all my extensions are disabled with no button to enable in the extension window. Last time I reinstalled them all, which is a pain. This time it happened after installing update "kb/3006137." I am using Firefox 36.0. Windows 7 64 bit.
Any solutions to this problem? I don't like the thought of going back before the update, since critical updates are critical. It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
See "Corrupt extension files":
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete possible addons.json and addons.sqlite files. -

There is nothing in that other thread that clarifies what you did about Error 3014
Here is the description of that error:
Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service. -
Just installed CS6 and trying to update, Windows 8.1 tried disabling security still not updating. Version 13.0 any suggestions ? Thank you
Once in awhile, they do have bug fixes for CS6. The only thing I can think of that was an upgrade for CS6 was a newer version of camera raw. For now they are allowing CS6 to have the latest version of camera raw, but when they are done with supporting CS6, I imagine that will be the last of the upgrades. I don't know of any dates, but I heard it wasn't for a long time if at all. So I guess we will all have to wait and see.
As for getting updates, I think you will like the manager. It makes it much easier. Frankly I didn't know the manager worked on the perpetual license. I knew it worked on the subscription. So it is good to know that it works for you as well. -
Windows automatic update disabled
I removed a Lenovo program thinking it was extraneous and now my automatic update for windows no longer functions. I can't remember the name of the program I discarded but it's absence is sorely felt, any ideas?
I am using Windows xp. I get a message telling me that Window Automatic update is disabled. When I go to System, Automatic updates the setting is checked for automatic but it is "greyed over". If I go to the Windows Update site I get the following messsage
Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install high-priority updates for your computer)
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted)
Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with troubleshooting, if needed)
To make sure these services are running:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type services.msc and then click OK.
3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click Properties.
4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
6. In the list of services, double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and then click Properties.
7. In the Startup type list, select Manual and click Apply.
8. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
9. In the list of services, double-click on Event Log and then click Properties.
10. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
11. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button.
When I try to enable the Automatic Backup I get "Error #1058" -
ll of a sudden, i can no longer see pictures in adds ?? If I go to Kijiji and look at any ad I can no longer see the pic in the add. Did accidently click or disable something?? update: I can see them in EI but can't anymore in Firerfox?? What did I click??
I did a restore ,but no fix.See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
It is possible that you clicked "Block Images" in the right click context menu while trying to save an image.
Check the image exceptions: Tools > Options > Content: Load Images: Exceptions
See [[Options window - Content panel]]
*A way to see which images are blocked is to click the favicon (<i>Site Identification</i> icon) on the left side of the location bar.
*A click on the "More Information" button will open the Security tab of the "Page Info" window (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Open the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Page Info" window.
*Select the first image and scroll down though the list with the Down arrow key.
*If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain. -
HP LaserJet M1120 MFP will not print on wireless network with Windows 8.1 operating system
The printer worked on the wireless network with Windows 8.
I have been advised that it does not work with windows 8.1 because a driver is required. However this is not available to download.
It is ridiculous that by having the latest operating system I am unable to use the HP printer on the wireless network
When will HP have the driver to download?Check the support site here.

Hi, It's a newly bought printer. I am unable to connect to the printer via Wireless Direct from Windows 8.1 64bit laptop. I have enabled the Wireless Direct with security on the Printer. Connected to the Printer SSID from my laptop wifi. Created the new printer from Driver software. It discovers the printer with it's name,IP etc; Upon selecting the printer and click on 'Next' button on the screen, results in a 5 min search process and finally displays that it could not connect. I have tried pinging the printer and it's able to pingf the IP of the printer successfully. I have even tried disabling the Norton antivirus, but result is the same. regards, sathwik

Ever since the release of Office 365 I've noticed that I'm unable to complete the download of the office installation while I'm on my work network. If I switch to a wireless hotspot the download proceeds and installs like it's supposed to.
This same thing is true if I want to download an app from the windows store or if I want to install updates for a windows 8 machine. Has anybody run in to this or could anybody tell me what ports need to be opened in order to communicate with the new
Microsoft services? Thanks.Ports and protocols used by Office 365

Apple Wireless Keyboard with Windows 7 on non Apple Hardware
Good Day,
I love the Apple Wireless Keyboard and it's the on I use when using my Thinkpad laptop as a desktop, meaning connected to an external Monitor and with an external keyboard and mouse. The Keyboard I use is an Apple Wireless Keyboard.
On my MBA 13 I use Windows 7 as my OS and the Apple lyouted keyboard works actually quite well with windows: The function keys perform very much like in Mac OSX with the volume, screen brightness, the fn+left or right for "home" or "end" etc.
Not I bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard to use in conjuction with my Thinkpad but all does features are missing. I guess that this has to to that on the MBA 13 the appropriate drivers where installed when the whole Bootcamp Software package was installed.
Since I obviously cant install the whole Bootcamp CD on non Apple Hardware, is there any way to just download somewhere the drivers for Apple KEyboards so the behave the same way as they would on a Mac running Windows?
Or is there any other way I could use my Apple Wireless Keyboard with non Apple Hardware the same way it behaves on my MBA 13 running Windows 7? Can somwhere lolely the Apple Keyboard drivers be downloaded?
I want to thank anyone who is kind enough to help mme with this mather in advance and please leave out comments of the kind that I it's my fault, I should have bought an Apple machine from the beginning. I have my reasons and If anyone can't handle that I kindly ask you to just ignore this post unless it's constructive and helpful contribution

The issue is related to the Chinese version of the driver that the latest windows update applies that stops the keyboard from working.

Apple Wireless Keyboard under Windows 7 pairing but not responding
Hi all,
I'm having a strange issue getting my Apple Wireless Keyboard to run on my new HTPC under Windows 7 (64 bit). I can get Windows' bluetooth manager to detect the keyboard, and I can input the pairing code, following which Windows seems to install a bunch of drivers, but then I get no response from the keyboard at all.
The thing I find strange is that the keyboard works when I punch in the code numbers, but never before or after.
I also have a Magic Mouse which works perfectly.
Once paired and installed, the keyboard is displayed in Windows' driver manager as a "Bluetooth Peripheral Device", so I'm wondering if the issue is that Windows isn't recognising the device as a keyboard.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks heaps, in advance. After 3 frustrating hours of trying every tip on the net, I found the answer: Try this.
