Wireless display adaptor with apple macbook pro

can i use my Macbook pro running windows thru bootcamp with my wireless display adaptor?  So far it works perfectly with my surface tablet but cannot get it to work with the Mac.

First make sure that printer sharing is correctly setup on the PCs. It is best to make sure that you can print from one PC to the other PCs printer. Once you have established that you can be sure that the printers are accessible from the network. To find out how to do that read Windows help. There are step-by-step instructions and a wizard that helps you with the Windows setup.
Then read the Mac Help on how to access a shared windows printer in your network. Again you find step-by-step instructions how to do that.

I have an Acer external hard drive 500GB.  Is it compatible with Apple MacBook Pro laptop?

There are only a handful or Hard Drive mechanism manufacturers left. Acer is not one of them, although they may make the enclosure (but probably not that either). So in essence you have a Brand-X enclosure with some sort of Hard Drive inside.
Most of those work fine once they are re-Initialized for use on the Mac. For me, I prefer to use the Re-purposing of a drive as an opportunity to re-write every block with Zeroes (which can take several hours but can be done in the background), assuring that every block is good.

  • Setting up D-Link DIR-615 wireless N router with a macbook pro

    Hello all.
I am trying to setup a D-Link DIR-615 wireless N router with my macbook pro. I got the router, opened it, put in the startup CD, and nothing works.
I went to the D-Link site and it says that the CD is not compatible with mac's, but to look on pages 10-15 in the user manual ( on the CD), which I did and found nothing related to setting up the router on my mac.
So I'm at the very beginning (putting in the initial CD) of setting this up, and wondering how to do it. Can anyone guide me through it or point me to a thread or online description of how it's done. I have very little computer background but I can pick it up decently when I have to, so please help as I will be very grateful. Thanks,
    Jonathan

Unfortunately as with most routers it will be a manual affair that is quite involved. The first thing is to connect to the router over ethernet, so you should connect the cable supplied between the computer and the router and turn the router on. Go to System Preferences and open the Network panel, make sure the DCHP setting is automatic, you should have a connection if it is already on auto, there will be numbers in all the boxes when connected. In the documentation for the router you should find an IP address for the web interface along the lines of 192.168.0.1 (this seems to be the correct one for D-Link), open Safari (or another browser if you want)put this number in the address bar and press return. There will probably be a request for password at this stage, this will be in the documentation or on the bottom of the router, fill it in and you will get to the web interface. You should then be able to follow the instructions in the router documentation to set it up. It should be fairly easy through the basic setup procedure as long as you know your internet settings.

  • What wireless routers work with the MacBook Pro?

I have been having problems with my inconsistent D-Link 624 and I realize that I will have to replace it.
I would like to know what routers are compatible with the MacBook Pro. My D-Link worked fine with my iBook but I think it does not work with the Intel binary. Any suggestions?

I had problems with a number of different Linksys routers (dropped signal, couldn't connect to some iChat AV calls, etc). I'd been using some Airport express routers for music around the house, which I switched around a made a primary wireless router and a reange exapnder. I've had ZERO problems since.
BTW, I was having almost identical problems with my PowerMac G5 (with a wireless card).
I'm curious if something in recent upgrades (10.4.7?) has changed the OS's ability to connect reliably with non-Apple routers.
But at least my Apple routers seem to be working very well.

  • 23 inch display compatibility with new MacBook Pros

  • Cannot get display on my apple macbook pro?

My Macbook Pro Switches on gives the start up sound but nothing appears on screen. The keyboard lights up but nothing on screen.
Is there a way I could use an external monitor to see the display

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    First, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Do a PRAM reset > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If it doesn't work, it's possible that there's a hardware problem with the graphic card or the display. To test that, connect an external display. Look at the connectors of the external display and buy an adapter if it's needed. Just connect the external display to the MacBook, turn on the external display and start your computer, so image will appear on the external display. If nothing appears, the graphic card is damaged, if something appears, the display is damaged. In both cases, take your MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller

  • Dual Display Problem with new MacBook Pro

    Hi All,
I just got a new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo and a 30" Dell LCD Monitor. Both are AWESOME products, BTW. But I am having a weird issue with running both displays.
If I sleep/wake the computer so that I'm never running with dual displays, everything seems fine. However, no matter what I try, I eventually get a system hang if both displays are active at once.
For example, if I turn the MBP off, attach the monitor, and power up, the MBP will get to the login screen. As soon as it hits the logon screen, it hangs.
If I hot-plug the monitor while the system is running, it will detect the new display and activate it as a secondary desktop. But, in anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 minutes (varies each time) the MBP display will turn off and the system hangs.
To me, it seems like a video driver bug or something similar to that?
    Thanks!

To those of you that inquired, NO, I have not yet resolved this problem.
I took the laptop into the Apple store, and they decided that it needed a new logic board. Then, once they received the part, and I took the laptop in for repair, they didn't replace the logic board. The guy on the bench reset the PRAM and decided that the problem was resolved. I took it home, and within about 20 minutes the same thing happened.
When I took it back to the store, I was unable to reproduce the problem for the mac Genius.
It still does it, I I just haven't had a chance to take it back to the store to try to reproduce the problem again.

  • Will the Apple 30 Inch display work with my MacBook pro? Confused!!

    Hi all,
thinking of getting a used Apple 30 inch display to go with my MBP, but not sure if it will work at the correct resolution. Ive read you need a Duel Link DVI cable, but I have Thunderbolt not mini-display port. My MBP is early 2011 (think), so I am really confused. The 27 Incher with thunderbolt would be good too, but they are too expensive for me.
Graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 6490M, 16mb RAM. 10.6.8.
I would really appriciate any advice !
    Thank you all in advance,
    Bish.

I am replying to my own post here, but i have made excellent progress and wanted to let any other viewers in the same boat, know the solution.
Basically, the Duel Link DVI cable from Apple (£70 / $99) is the bad boy that works. My confusion was Thunderbolt, but apparently Thunderbolt IS ALSO a DVI port ! So, buy the 30 incher on Ebay or off a mate, and BANZAI ! done. Glorious res of about 2560x1600pixels is awesome!
The only downside here is that it might be too big LOL !!!!
    Good luck all
    Bish

  • 802.11n connection with Apple Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have a 2009 Mac book pro notebook. I would like to purchase a router that would allow me to create a wireless network to which I can connect at 802.11n speed.
My understanding was that, at least until recently, Apple had their own version of 802.11n that was not guaranteed to connect to non-Apple routers.
Can any/all recent current 802.11n Linksys routers connect with Mac Pros using 802.11n?
    Thanks

You can go for Linksys "N" Routers..Some good model no are WRT160N,WRT320N,WRT610N...

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV?

I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV? I have a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, but there are two issues with it: The new display doesn't have a VGA port, and even if it did, I wouldn't want to have my mac constantly attached to the display by a cable. I was looking for a way to use the TV as a display without any wires. Is there some type of bluetooth setup I could use? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

As I wrote above, I think you should look into the Apple TV yourself. The best place to find information about what it can and can't do and to ask your own specific questions is probably in the Apple TV forum, here:

  • Apple 23" HD Cinema Display no longer working with new Macbook Pro

I bought a 23" used HD Cinema display the other day along with the ADC-DVI and DVI-Mini Display adapters. I had it hooked up and it was working perfectly for 3 days. Today my wife tried to connect her Macbook accidentally via the USB that is part of the ADC-DVI adapter which didn't work (why is that USB there anyway?). Then when she went to connect the external display back to my Macbook Pro it did not wake up after being connected. I have tried resetting the PRAM on the MBP and have disconnected and re-connected all connections but nothing will get the display working with the MBP anymore. When I connect and disconnect the mini-display plug into the MBP the MBP flashes the blue screen as it appears to be reacting, but that's it. I can't detect any display when I go into the display system preferences. Does anyone know how I can get the Apple Cinema display working again? Thanks for any help.

There are couple of long threads in the display section about problems with the power supplies on the 23" HD DVI. See this one for instance: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17981683#17981683
Mine one day just wouldn't turn on -- connected to an old G4 MDD and the Mini -- a bit of fiddling it would occasionally start up, sometimes not. Similar to what you described, the Macs would see it in System Profiler, but it just wouldn't turn on.
Based on that thread, I figured the problem was mostly likely the power supply. A local authorized repair place didn't have a spare for me to try, but the tech sniffed it and mentioned it the burnt electronics smell. LOL, I sniffed it and sniffed the power supply for my 20" DVI Cinema display -- indeed a weird smell.
Based on that thread, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a beefier 150" power supply for the 30" Cinema display, which Apple says in compatible with the 23". See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2803
I hooked it up, crossed my fingers, and it fired up right away. It's been working fine for about 3 months now. Cheaper than buying a new monitor.

  • [SOLVED, mostly] Arch on Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina Display

I've been looking into the Apple MacBook Pro. Of course, I would want to get rid of Mac OS X and load up Arch. Please tell me if the following will work out-of-the-box or have workarounds:
    WiFi
    Ethernet
    Sound
    Touchpad
    Keyboard
    Charging
    Bluetooth
    Graphics Card
    Webcam
    Microphones
    USB 3.0 Ports

    SDX Card Reader
I know the high DPI display shouldn't be a problem since GNOME Shell now supports those, but I want to be able to use all of the above things. Also, please let me know if there are any other problems to look out for. Thanks.

I can't comment on your specific model, but IMHO, getting a Mac (especially a Mac laptop) to run Linux exclusively doesn't make much sense, for the following reasons:
Apple's EFI implementation is weird, and some features (most notably the ability to upgrade the firmware) can be done only with the help of OS X. As a practical matter, this means that you'll either have to use exotic tools like the Linux version of "bless" or boot the computer in BIOS/CSM/legacy mode -- and even then, upgrading the firmware will be a hassle, should that become necessary. Booting in BIOS/CSM/legacy mode is the easier path, and there's nothing wrong with doing it that way, but as the industry is moving away from BIOS and toward EFI, it means that either you'll be going in the other direction or you'll need to struggle with a Linux-only EFI-mode installation on the Mac.
Hardware support in Linux for Macs is a bit weird, in part because of the preceding issue (the weird Apple firmware). I realize your question is aimed at uncovering specific answers about this topic, but as a general rule, Apple hardware seems more trouble-prone under Linux than standard PC hardware. Also, note that hardware support can vary depending on the mode you use (BIOS/CSM/legacy vs. EFI). Video hardware can be particularly troublesome on some models, with BIOS/CSM/legacy sometimes working better.
Mac mice (including laptop trackpads) are 1-button devices, but Linux works best with 3-button mice. A 2-button mouse can do in a pinch. Using a 1-button mouse with X requires applying unusual workarounds involving the use of keyboard keys while clicking the mouse button. Although this can be done, it's an extra hassle, both to set up and to use. On a desktop computer, of course, you can just replace the mouse, but this isn't always practical with a laptop.
I haven't checked pricing recently, but Apple hardware tends to carry a price premium compared to similar hardware from other manufacturers.
Although most of these issues (with the possible exception of price, if you're on a tight budget) aren't really critical by themselves, they combine to create a rather unpleasant combination, at least when considering a Mac exclusively as a platform for running Linux. If you wanted to dual-boot with OS X, things would be different, of course, but personally, I wouldn't buy a Mac as a Linux-only computer.
If you've got specific reasons for wanting a Mac, perhaps you could post them here. Although I personally haven't shopped for a laptop for a while and so can't offer specific suggestions, somebody else might be able to suggest alternatives that would do what you want.
