Wireless drops every 25 seconds

Or so...this is very odd. I have noticed that my powerbook has very irregular internet access speeds. That is, if I am downloading somehting, it would alternate between downloading quickly and slowly every minute or so. This is true no matter what wireless network I am on (Starbucks, University, or my home).
I finally downloaded the Airport Client Monitor, and see that, while the graph showing the signal strength looks okay, the one showing transmit rate looks like a mountain range - sometimes it is very regular (drops to zero every 25 seconds), other times it is irregular (anywhere from a couple of seconds of normal speed to several minutes worth).
Any ideas? It is horribly frustrating.

Well, there are apps that can simulate key presses.  Do you have one of them being triggered every 25 seconds?
What kind of cron jobs do you have running?  How about the at daemon?
If you check your processes, do you have sleep running alot?  Any weird scripts that you don't recognize?
When did this start happening?
How long has this been happening?
What changed?
hehehe.... Yeah, I give suggestions first then ask the troubleshooting questions!
Hmm.. No cron jobs. Doesn't look like it. Nope. This started happening yesterday. Only yesterday and today. Just this, nothing else.
Very frustrating.

  • Iphone 3 drops wireless connection every 2 seconds, then reconnects, Iphone 4 works fine with same wireless

My wife has an iphone 3 running 4.2.1 (I think thats as high as it can go?) and every two seconds it drops the wireless connection, then reconnects for 2 seconds. I'm using Plusnet wireless and my iphone 4 connects fine to it. Anyone got any ideas?

If no change after resetting network settings on the iPhone and/or after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup and if the same with different wi-fi networks the iPhone has access to, there is a hardware problem with the wireless card or with something else.

  • Network performance drops every 60 second on WMP54G

RX/TX drops from expected performance to nearly 0 every 60 second. IT seams to be a setting interfering the network transmission. The same behavior shows on different access points. Same computer over wired network shows no network problem.
This issue is minor by normal data transfer, but pretty annoying for video streams (e.g.. Skype, Live Messenger)
Does somebody know the solution to this issue?
    Solved!

You need to Update the Drivers for your Wireless Adapter...Download the Drivers from here
Once you have downloaded the drivers you need to unzip the file...After you unzip the file you should un-install the adapter drivers/software...Reboot your computer...You should see a message found new hardware...Select the option Install it from a specific location, then select Include this location in Search and browse to the place where you have unzipped all the files and select the Driver folder and click O.k...Then click Next and it should install the adapter drivers...
NOTE : This installation doesn't install the software(Linksys Monitor)...
Once the Adapter is installed, Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections- Right click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon and select "View Available Wireless Networks"- If you see your wireless network in the list, highlight it by 'single' clicking on it- Now click on the 'Connect' button below- If your wireless network is secured, it would ask you to provide the network key- Provide the wireless network key and confirm it again in the confirmation box and click "Connect". Observe the performance now...

  • Audio drops every few seconds?

I have a sisco box, and tonight its starting to drop the audio every few seconds. Kind of like its a skip.
I reset the box and all that and its still doing it, does this mean I need a new box?

This is rarely an issue with the box. Its either an issue with the channel, the signal leading to the box, or the signal between the box and his TV. Is this still happening? If so, is it happening on other channels as well? Please let us know so we can assist further.

  • Why does the connection drop every other second when streaming from iplayer through safari to apple tv?

I am trying to listen to iplayer radio through apple TV from my macbook air. When I switch back to just using the macbook the stream is consistent and works well but when I switch to airplay mode the sound stream literally drops in and out every other second. Ha! I have just gone into iTunes and I have the same issue!?
I have checked for software updates on both apple devices and restarted my router but still I have the same issue.
This is really annoying as this is the main reason I got apple TV! Can anyone help??

This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs?

  • Framerate dropping every 15ish seconds

any time i run a 3d-intensive program, such as a game or 3dmark, the framerate is smooth, but then drops drastically to about 5 fps. after a few seconds it returns to normal, but this cycle repeats constantly.
I installed the 158.24 drivers for vista, and also tried the drivers from MSI (100.65) neither does anything

Use Driver Cleaner. Not Driver Cleaner.NET, there's a price premium for that.
    Google for it.

This is why I'm keeping XP until Dx10 games come out.
Same here. But DX10 is a huge performance hog anyway, so I'll stick with DX9 until DX10 is actually better.

  • Why does my wifi connection keep dropping every few seconds

my new mac air is only a week old - it was working perfectly til yesterday now it won't hold a wireless connection.  won't even hold with an ethernet connection to mobile phone.

I regret to learn of the issues, funeralguy77! Lets figure it out together. Can you try to connect another device to the same WiFi connection. Does it connect? Have you tried to delete/forget the connection and trying again?

  • I dropped my iphone, it cracked (it alredy had some cracks in it) and the screen is black but sometimes has a background light.. When i plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not recognize it. What can I do?

I dropped my iphone 4 pretty hard, it cracked (although it already had a few cracks in it) and now the screen is black but sometimes has a background light turn on and then off. Holding the home button and off button at the same time do not work. When I plug it in to charge or to the computer it vibrates every 10 seconds and itunes does not seem to recognize it. It gets really really hot when plugged in (which I don't think is normal).  icloud does not recognize it under "find my iphone" either. What could the problem be? I am wondering if dropping it dislodged something inside. if so, what did I dislodge and is it possible to fix this myself?
    Thanks

Sounds like that drop was a critical one, my friend. I would make an appointment at your nearest Apple Retail Store, because you're going to need a replacement. Also as a side note: the reason that the charger is making the phone vibrate over and over is because there is a disconnect somewhere in the charge port of the phone, causing it to plug in and out over and over.

  • New MBP drops wifi every 65 seconds

So I have a month-old 15" MBP 10,1 2.4 GHz i7, 16 GB running 10.8.4.  From day one it has dropped the wifi regularly, I've tried over six networks at three locations.  Every 65 seconds the wifi icon drops, searches, re-establishes the network. No other issues, and the hardware test runs OK.  I'm currently on DHCP at work but it's very stable, all my other wifi devices are fine and have been for years.   I get this in the console every time (I've taken out the date and obfuscated the MAC, IP etc):

  • T500 wireless connects and disconnects every few seconds

The machine has the Intel 5100 adapter in it, and runs W7 x64. There are numerous other devices using wireless in the same house, including two T61ps, which do not have this problem.
The T500 is using the latest Access Connections for W7, and the latest Intel drivers (the machine is 10 days old, and is fully updated using Lenovo System Update and Windows Update. Not much 3rd party software yet due to this and another problem with the T500.)
Every few seconds, the wireless will disconnect, then reconnect immediately. I have tried turning off power management for the wireless adapter, including telling Windows not to power it off for power savings. This occurs running on AC power, haven't tried on battery. (This is irritating enough as it is, but it makes W7's Windows Explorer keep moving things up and down in the display as the network items disappear and reappear.)

    Hi Graham,
Try increasing the roaming of your wireless card from aggressive to low and power output to maximum in the power management option.
    Hope it helps.

  • I am getting this error every 5 seconds: Wireless Network Utility[253]: Model -ioClassRef error

In the console I have been getting thousands of these errors. They occur every 5 seconds.
Currently Bluetooth and WiFi is off, and it doesn't matter if they are on or off as far as this error occurring.
I'm not sure when it first began.
12/4/13 9:21:53.209 PM Wireless Network Utility[253]: Model -ioClassRef error
I have no running applications but probably have some startup helpers running, Any clue what this indicates?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as certain other aspects of the configuration that may have a bearing on the problem. Don’t be alarmed by the apparent complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode, if possible. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing. If you can only boot in safe mode, you can still use this procedure, but not all of it will work. Be sure to mention that in your reply, if you haven't already done so.
Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. The commands are safe and do nothing but produce human-readable text output, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. I am not asking you to trust me. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
The commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. Step 1 should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    { echo "Loaded kernel extensions:"; kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'; echo $'\n'"Loaded user agents:"; launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)|\.[0-9]+$/{print $3}'; echo $'\n'"Inserted libraries:"; launchctl getenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES; echo $'\n'"User cron tasks:"; crontab -l; echo $'\n'"System launchd configuration:"; cat /e*/lau*; echo $'\n'"User launchd configuration:"; cat .lau*; echo $'\n'"Login items:"; osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | sed $'s/, /\\\n/g'; echo $'\n'"Safari extensions:"; /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c Print L*/Saf*/*/E*.plist | awk -F'= ' '/Bundl/{print $2}' | sed 's/\..*$//;s/-[1-9]$//'; printf "\nRestricted user files: %s\n" $(find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) | wc -l); echo $'\n'"Extrinsic loadable bundles:"; cd; find -L /S*/L*/E* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,In,Keyb,Mail/Bu,P*P,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo}* -type d -name Contents -prune | while read d; do /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c 'Print :CFBundleIdentifier' "$d/Info.plist" | egrep -qv "^com\.apple\.[^x]|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|HDPro|HighPoint|driver\.stex|hp-fax|JMicron|print|SoftRAID" && echo ${d%/Contents}; done; echo $'\n'"Unsigned shared libraries:"; find /u*/{,*/}lib -type f -exec sh -c 'file -b $1 | grep -qw shared && ! codesign -v $1' {} {} \; -print; echo; ls -A {,/}L*/{La,Priv,Sta}* L*/Fonts; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A TextEdit window will open with the output. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
Remember that you must be logged in as an administrator for this step. Do as in Step 1 with this line:
    { echo "Loaded system agents:"; sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo $'\n'"Login hook:"; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo $'\n'"Root cron tasks:"; sudo crontab -l; echo $'\n'"Log check:"; syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    You can then quit Terminal.
To prevent confusion, I'll repeat: When you type your password in the Terminal window, you won't see what you're typing.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, set one before taking Step 2. If that’s not possible, skip the step.
Important: If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output of these commands, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
Remember, Steps 1 and 2 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output as text, not as a screenshot.
Please post the contents of the TextEdit window, not the Terminal window.

  • Sound keeps dropping out every 40 seconds

My sound was totally fine after Lion update but today no matter what program or internet site that has audio, the sound drops out for about a second every 30-40 seconds on my imac 27". This happens again with itunes, youtube, internet videos etc. I tried resetting the PRAM but no change. I have my imac plugged into an optical cable into my logitech 5500 surround system. Any body else having paused/dropouts intheir audio? Its very frustrating cause its almost as if someone is hitting the paus button on and off every few seconds.

For some strange reason the optical cable from the imac to the speakers has a problem. I replaced it with another one and no more sound issues and everything is fine. I thought optical cables never go bad unless kinked and mine was clearly not. Whatever, everything is made junky these days and nothing lasts.

  • Why the frame rate drops (stuttering) in every 10 seconds?

I am using AS3 to design the application, I set the FPS to 25, in every 10 seconds, the FPS drops(stuttering), and the screen hangs for about 0.5 seconds, then FPS resumes. I tried GPU, but still the same. I suspected that it might be very resource consuming, and  I lowered down the FPS to 16 or even 8, but it still stutters in every 10 seconds. Can some one help me?

you need to optimize your code/display especially if you're creating an app for a mobile device.
one of the easiest things to do is to enable the cacheAsBitmap property of most movieclips and assign a cacheAsBitmapMatrix to those movieclips that would benefit.
