Have linksys WRT54G wireless router hard wired to cable modem and desktop on first floor in corner of house.
Have linksys WGA54G game adapter on second floor in opposite corner of house.
Have very poor reliability on xbox 360, netflix, etc on second floor.
Trying to decide what to do to correct.
Options:

2. replace router with wirelsss N
3. replace game adapter with N
4. replace router and use old router as repeater on second floor

Replace your router with a significantly more powerful model if you want it to reach across your home. The one you are using is a very old design and is only intended for the most basic of user environments.

  • Wireless printer adapter issue

I purchased an HP802.11b/g Wireless Printer Adapter for an HP H470wbt printer; I installed the driver on a laptop with Windows Vista; I could never get the printer to work wirelessly; I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 and attempted to install the wireless printer driver but failed - I believe it is because the driver is not compatible with Windows 7.
I cannot even find the product on HP's website to see if there is any installation upgrade.
Can anyone offer how I might make this work?

OK, I just got it to work....unplug the power cable from the printer, and unplug the power cable from the outlet...wait 30 seconds and replug. If the printer does not power up on it's own, power it up. I also reset my router. After a day of trying to figure this out, it's working. BUT, it definitely had something to do with the Mac Software Update. Hope it works for you!

  • Surface 3 Pro Wireless Display Adapter

    Hello,
I have 2 Surface Pro 3's with Windows 8.1 on both.  I also have the new Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter plugged into my TV.
1 Surface Pro 3 works fine on the Wireless Display Adapter, and 1 doesn't.
For the one that doesn't, I can connect, the screen on the TV says "Connecting to [computer name]", then the TV screen goes black for about 30 seconds.  On the surface, I click Devices, Project, Duplicate, and then I select the MicrosoftDisplayAdapter
and the screen blinks on the Surface for 2 seconds and it appears to lower it's resolution.  Then maybe 30 seconds later it goes back to the normal resolution.
I don't have any firewall, antivirus, or other utilities installed.  There are no errors in the event log.
There are no real troubleshooting steps online I found to help figure out the issue.  Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

Please ignore the other responses you received. Go to
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38826 and download the
Surface Pro 3 March 2015.msi (not the zip file). Don't run it yet.
Go into device manager and expand the Intel Display Adapter and uninstall the
device. Don't remove the driver at this point. Shut down and start up your SP3.
The driver should reinstall. Try Miracast again. If still broken, go back to
device manager and uninstall the display adapter and this time when prompted,
delete the driver files. Restart. Run the msi installer. Restart. Please report
    back.

  • HP B500 Wireless Bluethooth Adapter for HP Printer Not Working With Windows 8.1

I have been using the HP BT500 bluetooth Wireless adapter to print wirelessly to my HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer.  I have been using Windows Vista, but recently upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I learned after the upgrade that the HP B500 wireless bluetooth adapter is not compatable with Windows 8.1.  I have attempted to find a driver upgrade for the B500, but there does not appear to be one available.  I have also searched the HP site and other sites in an attempt to locate an alter wireless blotth adapter to replace the B500, but have again been unable to locate one.
Is there a wireless bluetooth apter that will allow me to print wirelessly to my HP Office Pro 8500 from my laptop?

    Hi @Raider83,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP B500 wireless bluetooth adapter for your HP Officejet 8500 is not working with Windows 8.1. I am sorry to hear this but happy to look into this for you!
I am not sure if you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System. But sometimes with Windows 8.1 you can use compatibility mode to install an older version of the driver. Which might help the situation. Here is a link to some other Windows drivers, HP bt500 Bluetooth USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter Drivers.
Once you got a driver downloaded, follow this guide, Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows, on how to install it using compatibility mode.  It is not guaranteed to work, but it is worth a try!
If you still need me to look for other bluetooth adapters, please respond with your printer's Product/Model Number. To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number. As there are multiple HP Officejet 8500 printers.
Thank you for posting, and have a nice day!

  • Time Capsule help setting up PS3 and game adapter

I just bought a time capsule to use as my modem and now my existing game adapter will no longer connect my PS3 to the internet. I have no idea how to fix this. Support forums tell me to type 198.250.1.1 or something like that in the address bar of safari and it never finds my adapter. Can someone please help me? I am totally lost!
    Thanks!

I presume you are running Mountain Lion and 6.2 utility.. we need to know that.
You should not need to setup the TC at all from second device.. it is setup and working on laptop.. that is enough.
On the desktop it should be accessible in the same way as the laptop.. same name same passwords etc.
If not, then fill us in on the whole network layout.
    Modem what kind.. what broadband.
    Is the Modem a router?
Is the TC plugged into the modem.. in bridge or router mode?
I guess the laptop is connected by wireless? Desktop is connected how?
Are you trying to get TM to work.
Mount the disk in finder if you can. Then you should be able to direct TM to use it.

  • WRT300N & Wireless G Adapter Problem Fix!!

I'm posting this message again with a better "message subject" because I believe it will help a lot of frustrated purchasers of the WRT300N Router.  Please excuse the double post!!
Unbelievable.  I cannot tell you how long I had to work on getting my wireless G adapter to recognize my new WRT300N router network!!  Very frustrating.  I tried just about every suggestion from all of you wonderful forum participants (just where is linksys tech support in all of this?) and just couldn't get the thing to work until.....I did a combination of things, one suggested here, and another on the Microsoft knowledgebase support site.  Here they are.  First, Microsoft says your wireless G cannot communicate with your WRT300N because the  RTS threshold and Fragmentation threshold settings are not the same.  If you have taken Linksys' suggestion to lower your advance wireless settings so RTS and Fragmentation are "2304", you must also change your wireless G card adapter RTS and Fragmentation settings to "2304", mine were defaulted much higher at 4906.  Then you should take the WONDERFUL advice of "Shoemaker2006" who posted the following back in July of 2006:
"...I figured out that the wide band does not really cover the G range but only the N range sort of like a donut with the hole in the middle. When the settings are in mixed mode and wide band the G range is only covered on the outermost part of the G range next to the N range. When in wide band and only N mode the G range is not even addressed. To get the G strength you jave to have it in G mode only and Short band to address the G range. Also have it on channel 11 if possible to not have wireless phone problems. With these settings my network is rock solid (WRT300N + 3 WUSB54G adapters). As far as the N desktop adapter goes it probally will have issues in mixed mode since this is a Pre-N architecture router and the range is not N only. I would not suggest the router to anybody looking for N only speeds until the next firmware update which is specific to the N range problems.
Thank you Shoemaker2006!  Changing my channel to 11 and selecting "G mode only" gave me the range I needed to make my wireless G card communicate with my WRT300N router.  Hope this helps some of you.  I won't even bother you with the 25 other things I tried because none of those changes worked.  So, match your card and routers RTS and Fragmentation threshold numbers, change the router to channel 11 and select "G mode only".  It works!!!

set your gateway on the second to be the IP of the 1st router.  that should take care of it.

  • Cannot find wireless network adapter - Satellite A100-467

    Hi,
I have Toshiba Satellite A100-467 running Windows 7 on it.
Yesterday I put my notebook to hibernation and when it woke up wireless network was not working.
I checked Device Manager and there is no wireless network adapter available, seems it is not enumerated by the system.
I have tried to download and reinstall drivers for Wireless network but without success.
    Any suggestion?

I launched windows Backup and Recovery tool to see whether some software change had not disabled wifi adapter, that is what I meant.
There is no Ethernet Controller in Device Manager, nothing pointing to Wireless adapter.
I have tried to remove battery already before but it did not help. Tried again today with the same result.
Today my Wifi was suddenly working for a while, that made me think it would be probably a hardware issue, maybe something moved inside. I just wanted to rule out software issues before I send it to repair.
Now it is where it was before, not even displaying in Device Manager.

  • WRT54GX4 Wireless Router and Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter

I just got an Xbox 360 with a Wireless Networking Adapter.  The adapter will recognize the network, but won't connect to it.  Even if I remove the security, the Xbox 360 won't connect.  Is there something else via the router I'm supposed to be doing?  I called Microsoft and they said to open the port settings, but I don't know if that's really the issue and I don't know how to do that if I need to.

  • WRT54G & XBOX 360 Wireless Networking Adapter-Router doesn't see my SSID

I purchased a XBOX 360 networking adapter yesterday.  I hooked it up and serched for networks and it doesn't see my SSID through the linksys router.  Before I purchased the 360 adapter, I could hard hook it to the router and it worked fine.  I called 360 and they suggested that I open my MAC on the Linksys Router so that it would recognize it, but I do not know how to do that.  I know how to get into 192.168.1.1, but don't want to do anything crazy.  Please advise. I'm not a novice, but not an advanced router owner.  Thanks,
    WRT54G v.8

SSID Broadcast should be Enabled on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab-
Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...SSID Broadcast should be Enabled...Check what is your SSID(change the SSID if it is Linksys)...Click Save Settings if you have changed anything...
Click on the subtab Wireless Security, if the Security Mode is WPA/WPA2 change it to WEP, if it is WEP take not of Key1(this is your wireless security)...
    X-Box Setting :
    1. Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.
    2. Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."
    3. Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.
    4. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)
    5. Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead.
Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
    6. Save your settings and verify the network is functional.
On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.
On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.

  • How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps

How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps? I am running FIOS 10/2 and connected to a ActionTec  M1424WR router. Any help will be appreciated.

I have to ask the question, why are you in need of 802.11N speeds?  Are you transferring lots of files between other PC's on your network or are you simply connecting to the Internet.
Remember if your Internet speed is 10/2 which means 10 meg down and 2 meg up having 300 meg capability WLAN connection will not be noticeable.   Your bottleneck is your Internet connection of 10/2.

  • Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter - With any driver: "The device instance name is invalid"

    Hello there,
I was trying to install various "Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter" drivers, with versions ranging from 2007 to 2010, both from the manufacturer and specifically for this computer (a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile) and others from here:
    http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=22&system=3
All of them are for Windows Vista 32bit.
The computer had previous drivers installed and working, but also had a network problem. In the process of figuring out what was causing it, I tried to install newer drivers to see if that was the problem. It turns out the network problem was due to a different
thing that is now fixed (some dependencies of the WLAN Configuration service were turned off), but I'm still stuck installing the new drivers.
    TL;DR:
However, every time I install new drivers, after install, Windows says that
"The device instance name is invalid", regardless of what drivers I install. I even tried to install drivers for different hardware in that slot just to see what it told me and IT STILL gave me the same error. I also tried to uninstall the
current driver, checking the box to delete the driver's software, running CCleaner and then deleting
"athr.sys" from the Windows/Drivers folder and
"oem8.inf" from Windows/Inf as those files were referenced in the driver's properties. The install still gives me the same error.
The fact that it gives me this error with any driver leads me to believe it's Windows' fault and not the driver's.
Note: I am translating from the original in Portuguese. "The device instance name is invalid" is the closest/correct translation and seems about right with the info I find online regarding the english version of Vista and how it refers to devices.
This (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/microsoft.public.development.device.drivers/yFa_XnlcLJQ) and this (http://finderr.net/windows/pt-PT/O-nome-da-inst%C3%A2ncia-do-dispositivo-%C3%A9-inv%C3%A1lido-/2082573452) also seems to confirm that, though it
doesn't help me. It may be that the text is actually different in english Vista but I also searched for driver instead of device or stuff like "The device instance name appears to be invalid" and can't find anything either.
I also did SFC /SCANNOW a while ago and it found no errors.  I then repeated it again after this problem and this time, SFC found errors BUT it couldn't repair all of them. Here is the CBS log:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/bayum2rsezxpmre/CBS.log
    Thank you for the help!
EDIT: The Notebook model is a Fujitsu-Siemens ESPRIMO Mobile V5535 and their support drivers can be found here (after specifying the OS and model):
    http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/download/ShowFiles.asp
    EDIT2:
The last SFC /scannow scan repaired everything left to repair. The system restore option can't be used because the earliest one still has the (suposedly faulty) drivers installed.
This computer has a Win Vista serial number, but no CD and the second partition doesn't have any kind of backup. The second partition is empty though. So, as a last resort, if I really don't have a choice, I'll try to do an upgrade install to see if that fixes
it and if that still doesn't fix it I'll have to move everything in the users folder to the second partition and format the first which is a bummer :/
EDIT: Here is the setup.api.log that was inside C:\Windows\Inf and details the instalation process of all the drivers:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/tyxs1e4r7rxofch/setupapi.dev.log
I'm still trying to read into that setup.api.log file.

So, can I assume that the only way to fix this error is to download an iso of Windows Vista, unninstall my service packs, upgrade install Vista, run Vistalizator to change the language to Portuguese and then install Service Pack 1 & 2?
EDIT: Alright, so I formatted the thing since the driver bug wouldn't give me a break. The details on that can be found searching for the same thread title either on tomshardware or vistaforums if anyone happens to find this looking for the same error.
I have a real knack for bumping heads with errors that nobody else gets that somehow turn into unfixable bugs. At least if someone else searches for this problem they'll know what to do.

i need Mac driver for TP-Link Wireless USB adapter model no TL-WN7200ND

  • Using AE as wireless ethernet adapter

I've read through the airport express manual but can't seem to find if I can configure it to serve as a wireless ethernet adapter. I have an existing 802.11g wireless network (from a Westell router) and want to connect a computer that only has wired ethernet. I'd like to plug this computer into the wired connection on the AE and use the AE as a bridge to the existing wireless network. I know there's other hardware designed to do this, but I'd also like the AE's audio out at this location.
    Thanks for the help.

It is not possible to do this with your current router. I don't believe your current router can do WDS network with Express, which is the only way you can activate ethernet port.
