Wireless Gateway 1

I received Wireless Gateway 1...with this device do I no longer need my Linsky router to connect my laptop (in another room) to the internet?

Thanks for the suggestion. I have no idea why but all of a sudden the Time Capsule backed up my Mac before I had time to do as you suggested...although the back up process was very slow. I'll see if it gets faster over the next few days...will resort to your suggestion if needed. Thanks again!

  • How do I maintain my Airport Extreme network with my new Comcast wireless gateway?

    Hi all,
I've just signed up Internet access through Xfinity. Today, they sent me a new wireless gateway, which I am willing to use. But I would also like to maintain the network I've currently been using, which is an Airport Extreme hooked up to our DSL modem. Currently, I have a Brother wireless printer, our TiVo, and a Roku streaming stick on this network, as well as all of our Macs and mobile devices. I have been reading about "bridge mode," and selecting this mode once my AE is hooked up through the Ethernet cable to our new wireless gateway seems like the way to go if I'd like to keep the AE network I have now. Then, I can select either the new Xfinity network or the AE network, depending on my need. Is that correct? Will I have to reassign all of these peripherals to the AE network once it's been placed in bridge mode, or will they all be able to find that network automatically once the AE is plugged into the new modem/router? Also, is there a way to connect the AE to the new Xfinity equipment wirelessly, or is it best to connect through Ethernet? I have probably betrayed my ignorance more than a few times in this post, so please be kind and explain it to me like I'm a seven-year-old. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Call Comcast and ask them for instructions to configure their "wireless gateway" as a simple modem. Sometimes the terminology they use is "transparent bridging". Have them walk you through it, since all such devices are configured differently. It is usually through a web page but you will need a password to change its settings. You ought to turn off its wireless network also, so ask about that too.
Then, you will have essentially what you have been accustomed to using: an Extreme connected to a box with an Ethernet cable, doing everything it used to do when you had DSL. Your AirPort Extreme is almost certainly a better router than whatever junk Comcast supplies, and to reconfigure it as a bridge would remove all the features that make it so.
You probably won't need to change a thing on your Extreme, other than to unplug it and plug it in again after reconfiguring the "wireless gateway".

  • IPad 1 won't connect to Comcast Xfinity TG862G/CT Wireless Gateway

    Hi all,
So I had my Comcast service set up a couple weekends ago (new employee, switching from FiOS).
The tech originally brought me a DOCSIS 2.0 eMTA and I attached my own separate Netgear WNR3500U Router, and connected without issue. Connected devices include:
    (2) iPhone 4's
    (2) MacBook Pro's
    (1) New iPad
    (1) iPad 1
    (1) WinXP Desktop PC
    (1) Blu-Ray Player
    (1) XBox 360
    (1) Nintendo 3DS
I've boldened the device that is about to have the issue.
Comcast has upgraded their High-Speed Internet (HSI) speeds in the Boston region now, so I was upgraded to an ARRIS TG862G/CT Wireless Gateway over the weekend.
Set up of the Gateway went very easy. Set up using WPA2-AES Security using a supplied 16-digit security key. All of the above devices connected at amazing speeds without any issue, until I got to the iPad 1.
When I select the Wireless Network, I get the swirling animation as if the iPad 1 is trying to connect to the network, but it just never connects. I've tried the following steps:
Complete factory reset of Wireless Gateway and restarted install & setup.
Complete factory reset of iPad 1, including upgrade to iOS 5.1.1(9B206).
Tried changing following settings on Wireless Gateway
Tried reducing security to WAP2, WEP, down to OPEN WiFi.
Tried changing WiFi channel from Automatic to Channel 1, 6 or 11.
Tried changing name of WiFi network from factory installed, to custom.
Tried manually adding iPad 1 to Connected Devices menu on TG862G/CT.
Connected iPad 1 to outside WiFi networks without issue. It works. Just not on this Gateway.
If I go back to the WiFi network I am trying to connect to, it even shows at times that it is picking up a valid IP address from the Gateway, but still no connection to the internet at all.
Overall I have tried everything I can think of to connect my iPad 1 and to this point, nothing has worked. I have contacted Apple to ensure working functionality of the device, which they confirmed my assumption: It's working 100%. I've also contacted Comcast to confirm working functionality of the Gateway, which is fine seeing as how I have no less than 5 other devices connecting to it without issue right now.
If anyone has any suggestions, outside of what I have already tried above, I would love for someone to help me solve this frustrating issue.

24 hours later, no replies. I'm assuming nobody has a solution at this point as I have talked Apple and Comcast's Xfinity Signature Support's ear off for the last 48 hours. I really dislike when electronics won't work as intended "just because". There's a reason, and someone knows.

  • Mac Mini (2012) as Wireless Gateway

I want to turn my mac mini into a wireless gateway. I  have "pf" I need to know how to turn on wireless ap mode on? What command line tools are available? OpenBSD has "hostapd" for this.
I plan to have my mini serve as my gateway router as well as media and file server.
    Thanks!

what you have done is allowed resource sharing so that another computer can share the broadband connection via an ad hoc peer to peer connection.
however, this mini is not acting as a router, nor is it designed to, as it does not posses the server software. OS X Server does not currently run on Intel processors. if it did, then the Mini would be able to act as a router plus all of the other network security features that are available in OS X Server. Mac is likely to migrate all servers to the Intel platform, however when they do, it remains to be seen which intel platform that will be and if it will be compatible with Core (1) Duo / Solo processors.
wireless routers can be had for under $50 with the features that you seek.

  • Can an Airport Express be used to extend the range of my Comcast wireless gateway?

We recently moved to a big old brick and stone farmhouse.  When Comcast came they installed their new wireless gateway.  Unfortunately the construction of my house is pretty solid.  It effectively blocks the signal at the far end on the second floor.  I've been trying to use an Airport Express, newest model, to extend the range of my network.  Using the Airport Utility, it seems like it connects but the signal is no better.   Does the Airport Express only work as a range extender on Apple wireless devices, or am I missing something when I use the Airport Utility to set up the extended network?

The AirPort Express can extend the wireless signal from the Comcast gateway if it is permanently connected to the gateway using a wired Ethernet connection, and the Express is configured to create a wireless network using the same name and password as the Comcast wireless network.
The Express cannot wirelessly extend the signal from the Comcast gateway, since the wireless "extend" feature will only work with other Apple routers.
The Express can "join" the wireless network provided by the Comcast gateway for use with AirPlay or a remote printer at the USB port, but when the Express "joins" a network, it does not provide any additional wireless signal coverage in that setting.

  • Using UC320W behind Netgear 4-port Wireless Gateway

Need some help with a configuration involving a UC320W.
UC320W is behind a Netgear wireless gateway. We are using the Netgear device as a DSL device to access
the internet, the UC320W is being used as a Voice Gateway inside the building with two extensions.
Connected to the UC320W also are 4-AP321 Cisco access points, on one of these are 4-wireless IP Cameras.
I am using Blue-Iris software to manage the cameras and will like to access the local website hosted by the computer
    running the Blue-Iris remotely.
Bothe UC320W and the DSL Gateway are on the same subnet, and both of them can port-forward.
How can I do this? Any idea that will work is appreciated.
    Thank you.

Hello All Problem resolved. The UC320W has 3 topology options. I chose the option that allows the DSL Router to be the main DHCP Hub. I connected the WAN Port of the router to one of the LAN Ports of UC320W.  This frees the UC320W from routing Internet traffic and just focus on voice processing and routing.  Now I turned to the DSL router and configure it to port forward as I wanted by 1) Port forwarding and 2) Port triggering the specific port I wanted. This solution worked.  I also realized that I could have bypassed the router and have option 2 on the UC320W to configure my DSL properties using PPOE. That could have worked too. But right now the DSL router is the one doing all the Internet heavy lifting.  So,  all is set and we can see what the cameras are seeing remotely.  Thank you all.

  • Need advice on the best setup of a TC and 2-wire wireless gateway to a 2011 iMac.

I upgraded to the Gateway so I could wirelessly stream HD movies to my TVs. Current setup: Ethernet cable from the wireless Gateway to the TC and Ethernet cable from the TC to the iMac; wireless turned off on the iMac and the TC is in bridge mode. I would think a more direct route from the gateway to the iMac using the Ethernet WAN connections on the gateway and iMac would be preferred. I want to use the TC solely for a backup. Can the USB ports on the TC and iMac be used for connection the two? (available connectors on the TC- 1 Internet WAN port, 3 Ethernet ports, 1 USB. The iMac has only 1 internet WAN port with multiple USB ports, 1 firewire port). THANKS

I would think a more direct route from the gateway to the iMac using the Ethernet WAN connections on the gateway and iMac would be preferred
You already have the best connection path. There is no WAN port when the TC is in bridge mode. All ports behave the same....as LAN ports when in bridge mode. Connect to any port you wish.
Another way of saying the same thing.....the ports behave as a simple Ethernet switch when the TC...or any other router...is configured in bridge mode.
Another thing that you might not have thought about.....the ports on the gateway are only 100 Mbps ports. So, if you connect from the gateway to the TC, the maximum speed will be 100 Mbps.
The ports on your TC and iMac are 1,000 Mbps ports.....Gigabit Ethernet.  You will have a much, much faster connection and much much faster backups with the iMac connected to the TC.
Can the USB ports on the TC and iMac be used for connection the two?
    No

  • Airport Extreme with AT&T Uverse Wireless Gateway

I have a first generation airport (i think, it is one of the rounded white ones) that i have used for quite some time as my main wireless internet connection. i also have an airport express that i use with the extreme. Recently, we upgraded our at&t internet service to uverse max. We had to be shipped a new "UVerse wireless gateway" that not only works as a modem but also as a wireless router. In the past, we had just connected our modem to our extreme. The issue is that the new wireless router can only have up to ten devices, while we have about 15 wireless devices in our house. also, i am having trouble connecting the airport express that i use with my xbox to the connection. I am wondering what would be the easiest way to just connect the gateway back to the extreme and use that as my wireless connection spot.

Thanks for the quick reply. I "turned off" DHCP on the Uverse RG by creating an address pool and assigning it to a MAC on a disabled NIC (ATT pushed a firmware update to RG's the removed the "disable DHCP" option).
I have a Win2K8 Domain server with DNS and DHCP that handles the entire network. I have also disabled the Uverese RG wifi service.
My RG goes to a Gb switch that then goes to each room in the house. The Set-Top Boxes are connected from the room ports, most of which have additional Gb switches to accommodate gaming systems and other computers with wired connections.
    Up to here, I'm golden.
The issues start when I introduce wireless. If I use my recently-returned Cisco M20 Valet wireless N router I observe two things:
    1. When I connect LAN port from Wifi to LAN port of home switch---I get a packet storm that consumes 100% of my wireless bandwidth and none of my wireless devices can connect when Uverse is in operation (watching TV/recording). --If no Uverse traffic is going on I can get on the wireless and do things like connect my iPhone to my apple TV via the remote app.
2: If I connect the home switch to the wifi WAN port, the packet storm goes away completely, but I cannot connect to my apple TV from my iPhone or any other wireless device.
    My Home LAN is 10.10.10.0/24
My Wifi devices are 192.168.1.0/24 (when WAN port is used--otherwise DHCP is disabled when using LAN ports only)
I am hoping the AirPort Extreme is capable of either filtering multicast from the wireless traffic or allowing me to use my iPhone to control my Apple TV when my iPhone is on the wireless subnet (192.168.1.0/24) and my apple TV is connected to my wired 10.10.10.0/24 network via the WAN port.

  • My iPhone 3Gs keeps disconnecting from my wireless Gateway.

I have an iPhone 3GS and just had my AT&T 2WIRE Wireless Gateway replaced. Now that it is brand new I've noticed that my iPhone doesn't keep it's connection to it like the old Gateway. I have called and talked to AT&T and they've done all they could do I'm sure on their end with oopening security and ports, etc to the Gateway. I am still experiencing the same problem. Now I'm thinking it's my iPhone. Has anyone had this problem and know of any solutions?

Hey thanks for suggestion i thought it worked for a while but it just did it again once i reinstalled it

  • Wireless gateway authentication

    Hi all,
Anyone else had this issue, I use a wireless gateway that requires you to enter a username and password everytime you log in, you do this and it conmes up as authorised then loads the web page you wanted to access and keeps working until you either shut it down or it times out and the you just authenticate again.
However since downloading 3.0,I open Safari,it asks me to authenticate as usual however now a 'Log In' banner appears on the top of the screen that has the URL http://www.apple.com, two greyed out arrows and a cancel button. Even if I enter my username and password in the webpage and press the OK button, as I used to do, nothing happens , is there anyway of preventing this log in thing from coming up as this appears to be causing a few issues...

I've only just noticed this thread after starting a new topic on this problem earlier. I'm seeing a similar thing on a network I installed a while back based on ZeroShell. This presents a Captive Portal for log in and I'm getting the same symptoms of none of the buttons doing anything.
One solution I have come up with (and it's a really ugly hack!) is to return a DNS failure when the iPhone looks up www.apple.com
The box that runs the Captive Portal is also the DNS server for the network, so I created an authoritative DNS record for apple.com and left it devoid of any 'A' records.
Now when the iPhone does a DNS lookup on www.apple.com it gets the DNS failure and doesn't show the 'slide' screen with the login and password, nor does the iPhone lose its assigned IP address when exiting the WiFi connection app. The user can then go into Safari as normal and enter the login credentials there.
This does of course mean the clients can't get to any apple.com pages, but it's better than not being able to get to any at all!
    Andy.

  • Confused: Does the Internet Self Install Kit Always Include a Wireless Gateway?

Hello, I ordered the "Boost" internet package for my new apartment WITHOUT a rented modem.  When I purchased the plan, Comcast included a free self installation package.  This pack (being shipped to me as I write this)  supposedly includes a wireless gateway from what I've read.  Am I correct in this assumption?  Do all self installation packages include a wireless gateway, or just when you rent a modem?  I was planning on purchasing my own modem on Amazon (a lot cheaper long term) before I move in this weekend.   If the gateway is included, is there a corresponding charge?  If so, can I return the uneeded equipment to avoid one? Thank you for your help.

Comcast sales seems unable to control Comcast equipment.  But they will always tell you what you want to hear in order to complete the sale.  I too received different equipment than what I carefully reviewed and requested with the sales person. You can always return extra rented gear to Comcast and stop rental fees.  Do go to their office and get a copy of the return receipt when you physically return the equipment, if it is at all possible.  Do keep the return receipt in your records FOREVER.  Comcast has a strange habit of charging us for gear we have already returned. Finally, there is one advantage to starting your account with the standard, rented equipment.  If there is any problem with the initial setup and they have to send a tech out, that tech cannot point to your "owned" gear and claim it is part of the problem, which in turn results in you getting charged for the tech visit.
