Wireless Help Please!!!!

Hello, I have a iBook g4 and and imac g5 (not intel) anyways i havae a westell modem and havea linksys wireless router and the router itsnt working anymore. so i called westell and they got my internet back but i has to have the ethernet cable straight from the westell box to my computer. when i called linksys to fix my router they said it was "out of date" so they want me to call and do alot of other stuff for them to send me a new one but weve had trouble with it before and at work. so ived decided to just get a apple wireless router. im just not sure what to get. ive seen the airport extreme basestion and the airport express? im not sure what i need. u just have a westell modem now so w/e will connect to that will b good. i also need 2 macs (that included mine) and one xp WINDOWS PC labtop to be able to connect to it to. all connect wirelessly. thanks for any input

Since all your computers are connecting wirelessly, either the AirPort Express (AX) or the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) will work.

  • Problem with macbook connecting to wireless: help please

    thanks for reading this thread.
i have a linksys WRT54G2 router connected straight from the ethernet port of a cable internet connection. it's been working fine for the past month or two for both me (using macbook 10.5.6), my flatmate (running vista pc) and my girlfriend also running a macbook.
but, the last few days i've been having problems getting connected. which are:
not connecting to wireless network automatically, and asking for password which is already remembered in keychain
getting connection timeout when trying to connect
getting invalid password, even though password is correct
websites taking around 2 mins to load when connection is eventually made
the internet is working fine on both my flatmates and girlfriends computers, but jut doesn't seem to like mine. heres what i've done already:
restored router to factory settings and updated with latest firmware
cleared all known wireless networks within network preferences
    tried both firefox and safari
accessed router using IP address and loaded pages instantly
works fine connected to router with an ethernet cable
the only thing i havn't tried is a different wireless network, which i'm going to try tomorrow when i go into university.
has anyone any idea what the problem may be? like i said, its been working fine for the past 2 months but has just decided it doesn't like my macbook.
any help or suggestions would be great, thanks alot

I had the same problem as you. It all started when all of a sudden my macbook wouldnt automatically join my home wifi that is usually does. I ignored this issue because it still worked, and this persisted for a few months. After a while, the situation got worse and after waking up from sleep, my wifi signal would go strong at first, then weaken until it kicks me off, and i no longer could reconnect as I would get a connection timeout error. I just went to the apple store and they replaced the airport card for free for me.
So basically your airport card is slowly dieing, replacement is inevitable.

  • Little bit of wireless help, please. [solved]

I'm stuck and would really appreciate it if someone could walk me through the steps toward getting wireless working.  I've followed the wiki entry to the letter (I think--something's obvously not right) using the fwcutter method. lsmod shows
    ieee80211softmac       30720  1 bcm43xx
    ieee80211              33736  2 bcm43xx,ieee80211softmac
    ieee80211_crypt         6016  1 ieee80211
but ifconfig -a only shows eth0 and lo
I found the netcfg wiki page too and that gave me hope that my stupid broadcom chipset can work.
I'll provide the relevant output of lspci just to get started. What am I missing?  What did I do wrong?

I have the same wireless adapter.
I removed bcm43xx from modules in rc.conf. You can add it to modules blacklist but i think it is deprecated.
I installed ndiswrapper, downloaded the file SP34152.exe (you can google for this) used cabextract to extract it to a separate folder.
    cd to the folder
    as root
    ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
installed wicd - added it to daemons, removed network from daemons in rc.conf (wicd has to start after dbus)
added ndiswrapper to modules in rc.conf.
added myself to group daemon with gpasswd -a arun daemons as root.
Open wicd, then i is easy to configure wireless.
I think wlan0 is not standard in all systems for b43. You can check your wireless adapter def with lspci. It is eth1 in some systems. If you want to use b43, you will have to install the firmware. You dmesg will give you the http address where the firmware is available. Then it is installable. But I am comfortable with ndiswrapper

    Hi all,
I am having some problem with the Apple Wireless Keyboard. It has not problem connecting to both my iPad mini / iPhone 4S.
The problem comes when I start to type with it. All the keys are functioning will, except when I am trying to capitalise the letter 'r'.
I tried using Shift + r. It doesn't work, regardless whether I use the left or right Shift key.
Any someone help please. Thank you.

If your Macbook is less than a year old, it is under warranty. A repair of of a problem of this kind would be free. So, if you have a warranty, have the problem fixed by Apple.
If your Macbook is more than one year old, please tell us what operating system you are running, and any other information that would help understand what is going on.
If you do get the keyboard to work for a short time, long enough to post back, please unlock the "caps lock" button.

Check for new 64 bit software for the modem, other wise you I'll probably have to boot your Mac in 32 bit mode first.. And then every time you want to go online.
I have the Sierra wireless 306 and have their 64 bit lion software installed. Works well.
    Best.

I'm having the same issue. Different programs though, it's mostly browsers and adobe products. I thought maybe it was heat related but it's not. It seems that as soon as Lion was about to be released, the updates were updating in preparation for Lion. I delayed updating the software updates because Adobe (my career) isn't totally compatible with Lion yet. Before I even started getting update notifications, though, within the recent week, it's freezing up constantly. I don't know what to do. It seems to be happening with my brower choice, I'm using Firefox and Chrome as my main browsers. I keep alot of sessions open but that shouldn't cause (and has never caused) this constant freezing issue. I did install some extensions in Chrome and Firefox, maybe that's the problem... The issues began after those were installed though, 3 weeks to a month later... Maybe the software updates (that I installed thinking it would correct the freezing issue), maybe they are preventing other browsers ? Maybe Apple is getting rid of Chrome and Firefox ? I'm not having issues with Safari (yet) though I just opened it for the first time in 2 months... only because the macbook is freezing (and it's also rebooting while asleep, closing all of my projects and not saving them)...
My Macbook Pro is the same year and the HDD is a year new. The manufacture recall had the video whatever replaced a few months ago.
I've never had these kinds of problems with an Apple computer. I'm using Snow Leopard and I'm very attached to this laptop ! It's configured perfectly.
Why oh why does it freeze constantly within the recent 1-2 weeks ?
    Someone please help us !

How can I play music through safari specifically youtube on my Mac book pro over soundlink to my bose wireless speaker I can only play audio from itunes at present? HELP PLEASE!

Should be able to go into your sound preferences and choose your output device, you can also try downloading Airfoil and try that, it's a pretty cool app.

P.S i;ve heard a comment about the G5 case not being
great for wireless so the cards come with a plastic
antena that connects to the back of the machine - i
never recieved one of these - could that be the
    problem?
Newer G5 PowerMacs don't require the external t-shaped aerial, earlier models do and that is probably the cause of the problem.

  • Wireless network has lost its range...  help please

    Hi,
I have an 80211B network using Airport cards in 3 ibooks and for 2 years the range has been fine all over the house, outside by the barbeque ect... Suddenly and recently all of the range is gone beyond about 15 feet of the wireless router except on a few occasions. I thought maybe that my my neighbors wireless network was interfearing since they recently added wireless to their house. However, I had them ungplug their rpouter yesterday and it made no difference.
I have not added any wirelss devices such as cell phone recently so nothing has changed as far as that goes in my house. I even went out and bought a Linksys wireless G router and extension antennas to see if it would make a difference but it has not. The nonly think I have not tried is a range extender but I have a feeling since the signal is so weak 20 feet away, it will not do anything? I have already tried changing channels, turning off encryption and a few other adjustments and nothing is working.
    HELP PLEASE!
    Thank you, Mitch Farber

It sounds to me like something in the area is intefering. Cell phones don't necessarily do this, but cordless home phones will- Or someone has gotten into your Router and done some fiddling. There are firmware hacks out there for the Lynksys- some that allow you to really crank the power.. as a test of course.
    google it!

  • HT4587 I can't locate airport express icon in itunes to connect my remote speakers wirelessly, can anyone help please?

Can anyone help please? I am trying to connect my remote speakers to my i-tunes library using Airport Express. Everything is connected and working using mt OS device (Ipod Touch 5th Generation) that works fine. I have tuned on home sharing and it says in itunes preferences that I am paired but according to the light on the airport express base station I am not connected to my existing wi-fi network. I cannot find the itune airplay icon anywhere in itunes nor can I find the network link by hovering my pointer of the network connections as suggested in the instructions that came with airport express. Would apprecaite some help please you can give. - thank you.

    hmmmmm.
i'm not trying to get rid of you here, but it might be worth also checking-in/reposting over at the Airport for Windows forum. when Airtunes things get sticky, i generally defer to iFelix or RJ in WI, and they spend a lot more time over there than they do here.
(traffic is so heavy in here at the moment that this thread might be buried out of sight before an AirTunes guru gets to see you.)
here's a link through to the Airport for Windows forum:

  • HELP PLEASE !!! Can't get Linksys router to work.

    Okay, I am a new owner of an Alu-imac 2.4 ghz !!!!!!
Installed Leopard last night and wanted to get my internet set up and ……. IT DIDN'T WORK !!!!!!!!
The Diagnostic thing wouldn't recognize my internet.
    (Info for you):
    1) I have an Linksys wireless router that is right behind the computer. I have to have a router for my 360 and my PS3 across the room. So I had the cable internet modem hooked to the wireless router and then to the computer. (just like it was hooked up to my PC)
    2) I tried everything I could think of to get it to work. The diagnostic show that the Ethernet had a green light, but it would not let me online at all.
    3) So then I tried unplugging the modem and the router and still nothing. (It gets stuck on the page where it asks "do you use a cable modem, if so please restart it and then hit continue") And still nothing.
    4) So then I tried to just run the internet straight from the cable modem to the imac, and this didn't work either….. Then for some reason like a 1/2 later the network settings brought up the IP and everything and I had internet.
    5) *But I need my Linksys router to be used !!!!* Is there any advice any of you can give me !!! I can call Linksys if I need to when I get off work, but I thought maybe some of you could help me first. *I did have to call Linksys before I could get the router to work on my old PC as well*, so maybe it's something with them ????
HELP PLEASE !!!! I want to love my Imac so much.
