Wireless home audio with Apple integration?

I am trying to build a wireless home audio network with my iMac, iPhones, and iPads. I want to install speakers around my house (back deck, bedrooms, basement, kitchen, etc.), preferrably in wall, and connect them to multiple Airport Express stations. The Airport Express stations will all connect to my Airport Extreme, then my iMac. I would use iTunes 99% of the time as that is where my collection of music is. I would use the iPad and iPhones to operate iTunes using Home Sharing/Remote app. In each area where speakers are, I would be using on/off switches with volume control.  The music would be streamed to every area, and by turning on speakers in that area, you would have volume control. If you don't want audio in the kitchen, then you turn it off in the kitchen, and it works every else its wanted still.
I am asking what is needed for this to happen. Please be very descriptive as to what components are needed. I have a moderate understanding, and welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks!

  • Can Wireless Home Audio products be controlled via IP with any other devices?

I'm interested in knowing if the Wireless Home Audio Director, Conductor or Player can be controlled via IP with alternative controllers?  Specifically, I'm interested in integrating the products into a universal remote control or home control system and still have 2 way communications with feedback.  IP and RS232 are the most commons ways of accomplishing this.

    Hi,
Maybe for basic functions like (play, stop, next) using the IR remote, a third party IR based universal remote may work but that's a big gamble to take, anyway what would be the purpose then of the Linksys DMRW1000 (IP based remote control) remote that Linksys is selling if its compatible with third party remotes.

Well that's my thoughts on this, I hope you'll find the device your looking for.

Hold the shift key down and launch Safari.
    Best.

  • Can I configure a wireless home network with two cable routers (both with separate connections to the same cable company)?  Issue is poor signal strength even with multiple Airport Expresses added to the network.

I have a wireless home network consisting of a time capsule, two airport expresses and a cable modem.  Even with this configuration I get a very weak signal in much of be condo - the walls, etc. are solid concrete. I want to see if I can add another separately connected cable modem and connect one of the existing airport express to it by Ethernet cable.  If so, this would give me two wired hubs and greatly improve signal strength. I do not know if this configuration will in fact work or if I will just wind up with two, separate and unrelateable networks.  Unfortunately, there is no way to run any additional Ethernet cable and I doubt simply adding more Airport Express will help. Thanks.

Try Ethernet over Power adapters.. these are very popular for your kind of environment.. being able to make non-wireless link to another area where you can setup a wireless access point.
Airport Express are not great for wireless power.. if you really have issues with wireless strength in a bad environment apple stuff is not the way to go.
    The comparison chart here.
    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/router-charts/bar/58-2_4-ghz-dn?see=P_F
This is their worst test location you can also see averages.. the latest airport extreme.. is there a long way down.. and that is a much better wireless device than Airport Express.
The Ubiquiti power AP is small cheap and designed for precisely this duty.. useless in an apple wireless network.. you will need to run ethernet or EOP adapters back to the main router.. but if the normal omni directional antennas don't provide enough signal you can get directional ones.. I suspect you can cover your whole apartment with a pair of these and high gain directional antenna.

  • Wireless printing - problem with MAC integration

    Hi everybody.
Just bought a Macbook pro and cannot get it to recognize my printer.
    Devices within network:
    - Belkin WLAN Router
    - HP Laserjet CM1312 multifunctional printer - with HP 2101nw wireless G (printing and even scanning works fine wireless!)
    - Acer Notebook with XP Home (used to set up the 2101 wireless)
    - Acer Netbook with XP Home (added later to network, no problem with printing, setup took 5 min)
Antivirus software: Avira Premium Security Suite on both XP's
    WPA-PSK encryption, no mac filtering.
The Macbook can access internet, but nothing happens when I try to print. I wanted to stop the hassle that Windows is causing occasionally. Frustrating experience with the Mac so far.
    Can anybody help?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I have removed the printer, and added again - a couple of times. I was not sure what protocol to chose (LPD, IPP, Socket).
I took your advice and tried, but with the right click (ctrl pressed), nothing happens. The normal window for the print queue opens, and I cannot select anything like "Reset Printing System".
This does not work either, no Printer with "Bonjour" is offered for selection:
"Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer with Bonjour next to it, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it."
When I select the plus sign, I can only make settings in the "IP" area. Standard, Fax and Windows have nothing to select or to put in. "IP" offers Protocol to select and Address to fill in. I put in 192.168.2.6 and tried the different protocols. "Print with" offers generic PostScript printer, Generic PCL Laser printer, "other" and printer software - thats where I selected the driver for the cm1312
Can you tell what I did wrong? Thanks for trying

I also tried to find out some solution like enable fast SSID switching, turn off and on for mobile device, re-configuring interface and WLAN, checking error log but there was nothing.
For your information, our WLC model is AIR-CT5508-K9 with 7.3.112.0 version.
Could you share information & solution if any one has?
    Thank you.

    Dear, Freerk.
    Thank you for your information.
I'd like to try captive bypass function then look at the traffic flow to understand very well, however, it looks like required reboot the controller.
ours is not able to do rebooting process so that, only the choice will be I must search testing result by my self... if you have a result from your lab, could you share with me?
Result message after enable captive bypassing configuration.
    (Cisco Controller) config>network web-auth captive-bypass enable
Web-auth support for Captive-Bypass will be enabled.
You must reset system for this setting to take effect.

  • No audio with apple tv?

i get graet picture but NO audio ?
    anyone have a solution?

Just to clarify as (sometims people confuse component with composite), you're using:
1 - Component leads - a set of 3 jack to jack leadscoloured red/green/blue to similar inputs on the TV (composite video is a single yellow connection)
2 - You have a standard pair of RCA stereo leads running to the TV audio input (coloured white and red usually)
You probably know all that but some people don't.
Assuming you have the correct cables and video is full colour, then video sounds fine.
For the audio, analogue sudio should just work out without changing any Settings, so possibilities are:
1 - you've connected to the TV's audio out not the audio in sockets
2 - your TV has to be manually configured to set the audio input to a particular video input - check the manual
3 - AppleTV audio out is defective
If there's no audio with music when playing, hold the up key on the remote which controls audio volume for this only in recent updates.

  • Home Sharing with Apple TV2 Broken After 4.2 Update

It looks like I have some company with at least similar issues. This is very frustrating and support was no help.
ATV 2 worked just great with Windows 7 64-bit and iTunes library until the 4.2 update was loaded. Now ATV 2 keeps telling me to turn on home sharing on a computer but it's already on and iTunes is running, I'm using iTunes 10.2.1.1 and Apple TV2 with latest update 4.2 (2060) and connection over WIFI. Home Sharing is enabled on my computer and ATV2 using the same Apple ID and password. I can get to YouTube and the iTunes store from my ATV 2 without issue.
I've attempted many solutions from what I could find online but no luck:
    1. Turned off/on home sharing on both the Apple TV 2 and in iTunes (multiple times)
    2. Re-entered my Apple ID and password on both ATV 2 / iTunes
    3. Restarted iTunes and ATV 2
    4. Restarted the DSL modem/router (ZyXEL PK5000z)
    5. Turned the firewall completely off (Norton Internet Security - firewall is off in router)
    6. Restored ATV 2 over WIFI
    7. Reinstalled iTunes
    8. Changed my Apple ID and password then reset in iTunes and ATV 2
    9. Renamed my itunes library
    10. Disabled QoS upstream/downstream protocol in my DSL modem/router
    11. Restored ATV 2 through USB connection in iTunes. This worked for a few minutes but after I turned off ATV 2 and later tried again it was back to it not working...
    Any other ideas?

Well, I tried a few other things and one worked but again just the first time I tried connecting to the desktop PC with iTunes. I flashed my router with the latest update and the ATV2 could see the iTunes library and I was able to play media. Later in the day I was going to show off to my daughter that I had fixed it and, to my dismay, no go. I tried opening the suggested ports but no luck.
I then tried loading iTunes on a Win7 laptop and it works perfectly with the ATV2. Both the laptop and the ATV2 are connected to the router wirelessly while the Desktop is connected to the router by Ethernet. Not sure if this is part of the issue as it sounds like this didn't work for others. The only other difference between the laptop and desktop is that the desktop has Win7 SP1 loaded while the laptop does not; now I'm scarred to load it though I don't think that's the issue. All in all, a very vexing situation. Hopefully Apple comes up with a solution soon.

  • Performance issues home sharing with Apple TV2 from Mountain Lion Server

I have a Mac Mini which I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion Server from Snow Leopard Server.
I have noticed that the performance of Streaming a film using Home Sharing to an Apple TV2 has degraded compared to the Snow Leopard setup. In fact the film halts a number of times during play back which is not ideal.
I have tested the network between the 2 devices and cannot find a fault.
Has anyone come across this problem before.
Are there any diagnostic tools I can use to measure the home sharing streaming service to the AppleTV2 device.
    Any help much appreciated

  • ITunes Home Sharing with Apple TV2, works with one Win 7 PC but not with the other

Hopefully someone out there can help with this, I have gone through all of the troubleshooting procedures that Apple provides, and have spoke to thier 'fast track' technical services department and we cannot resolve this.
My probelm is that Apple TV does not recognize my Win7 PC that has itunes running in Home Sharing mode.  In order to test my router, network configurationand the Apple TV, I put iTunes on a laptop on my network running Win7 as well, and the Apple TV had no problems sharing with that computer.  I have opened all of the ports in my firewall that Apple recommended, and tried to make it work both with and without my anti-virus software, but still no sharing of iTunes with this computer.  We are working with the latest version of iTunes and Apple TV, both updated today.
Has anyone run into this problem?
    Thanks
    S McD

Yep - have had the same problem, especially since IOS5 came about and no solution has worked.  I've fought this one for a while, I come back to it every once in a while when I see something that might be a new tack but no joy.  I've also tried all that stuff, but none of them fix it.
I can tell you a couple of things I have found out along the way:
First off, there is some kind of issue with the Apple Mobile Service that causes it to not stay working.  If you stop the service and start it you may be able to make the sharing show up for a bit, but it will eventually disappear.
Secondly, there may be a network routing factor to this too.  Apple doesn't like to use the same kind of protocols as many sharing schemes do, instead preferring something known as "Bonjour".  Bonjour uses multicast routing, and appears to either be programmed badly or in a non-standard way - or maybe there just is no standard.  In any case what you find is that it just doesn't work, and there is no current fix.
Keep trying though, maybe you can figure it out.  If you do, please come back and post what you did, I'd be very interested.  Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but I can at least tell you that you're not crazy, there are others out there having the same problem with the same bleak outlook.  By the way, mine used to work until iOS5.

  • Wireless Print Share with Apple Laptop [80% visible]

I have a home pc which is running xp. Connected to that PC is a canon iP3000 photo printer. Everything works great from the PC as far as printing. I have also 2 macbooks, neither of which seem to print properly to the iP3000.
I shared the printer from the XP machine. I went to system preferences and added the printer from the macbooks, by choosing other printers, selecting MShome group, logging in and there is the printer on the list.
Problem is when it asks for the driver.
    1. generic - choose this and the data light just blinks.
    2. Canon - choose any of the ones listed [a good 20+] and it prints either stretched, or zoomed out such that you see the entire page in the top left 1/4 of the page.
    Anyone experience this?
I dont see my specific printer in the canon list, but how would i add that?
The driver is also installed locally on teh macbooks and the printer works if you plug it into them, but i want wireless sharing.
    Any advise is appreciated

It should work with the printfab printer drivers
    http://www.printfab.net/
    Note these cost.
The problem arises as the Canon Mac printer drivers will not work when you share a printer in this manner.

  • Home Sharing with Apple TV does not work

Home sharing is turned on for both iTunes and Apple TV.  Yet no files are synced to Apple TV from iTunes.  I have tried turning Home Sharing off and on both devices several times. I have also re-installed iTunes.

    If on wifi try ethernet
Go to netstumbler or similar and get a network report, look for signal strength and noise
Make sure port 123 is open on router (refer to manual if unsure)

  • Wireless display adaptor with apple macbook pro

can i use my Macbook pro running windows thru bootcamp with my wireless display adaptor?  So far it works perfectly with my surface tablet but cannot get it to work with the Mac.

First make sure that printer sharing is correctly setup on the PCs. It is best to make sure that you can print from one PC to the other PCs printer. Once you have established that you can be sure that the printers are accessible from the network. To find out how to do that read Windows help. There are step-by-step instructions and a wizard that helps you with the Windows setup.
Then read the Mac Help on how to access a shared windows printer in your network. Again you find step-by-step instructions how to do that.
