Wireless Ineterface IP Addressing

Hello,
I have a CISCO 1300 series (ios) AP.I would like to give the radio bridge and the Fastetherenet interface sepertae IP's.I am running DHCP on our network and would like the clients connected to the ethernet of the 1300 to pick IP addresses that are on a different subnet from that of the radio. It is currently configured as a bridge to connect back to HQ and the clients are picking up IP's on the same subnet of the HQ because of this.
ANy help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks

  • I have problems with my 7510 holding a wireless network ip address 192.168 etc It says 169. etc

My HP Photosmart all in one (which is only a few months old) stopped comunicating with my Netgear DGN1000 Adsl router a few days before Xmas.
Instead of the 192.168.0.9 ip address that it used before I powered off the router, iit came back with an address of 169.254.249.128; "Configuration source" = "Auto ip"; a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0; and Default gateway of 0.0.0.0; I know these are wrong, so I tried a fixed ip address of 192.168.0.201, a SM of 255.255.255.0; and a DG of 192.168.0.1; This was OK, but overnight, it all went back to the auto ip settings.
I eventually managed to contact HP, and the guy spent 75 minutes with me trying to reset things, and eventually he reckoned that the Netgear router was not allowing the printer access via some ports (which he emailed me a list of) and something he said I needed to tell my isp (Virgin media) “FLOOD DETECTION SET TO OFF” & “SP1 FIREWALL SET TO OFF”
On contacting VM, they were insistant that their router was not at fault - they could open the 12 or so ports, at a cost to me of £60! (I declined this)
HP had told me how to set up for Ad Hoc printing (by-passing the router) which had worked during our testing.
VM had been into my settings for the router, via a remote access device, and checked a few settings, but the only one I saw them alter was changing from CH10 to CH11.
I certainly could not get the printer to accept the 192.168.1.201 after this anyway.
Following this, I reset the printers Network Defaults, and reconfigured the wireless settings. It did seem OK, and running on 192.168.0.9
    I have now reset the IP address to Manual on the printer, entering the 192.168.0.9 and 255.255.255.0; and 192.168.0.1;
Touch wood it has held up for a few days, but I havn't switched anything off (but overnight before it went awry!)
I'm not convinced I have got a fix here, and would welcome any suggestions as to what I can still do.
Maybe I have already done some, as I have "completely uninstalled, and reinstalled the HP7510 software on my Desktop PC.
Incidently the printer is set up on 3 PC's in the house - a desktop running W7 HP 64 bit, a Notebook (same OS variant) and a Laptop running W7 HP, but 32 bit.
All were unable to print when I was having issues.
I would welcome any suggestions to get a more permanat fix. (I would rather have found a definite fault) I have other routers I could try, or I could open ports, but my question is - If I needed these ports open, and other settings altered (Flood detection etc) why did the printer work for the first few weeks I had it set up, and why did powering off the router cause such issues? (suppose I need to power off the router again in the future - it does happen)
    Thanks
    Dave

    Hey Dave,
    Great post with good information.
As you mentioned, the printer came back with a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx style IP address. This is normally produced when the device is not able to get a complete connection with the router, thus the router gives it a temporary internal IP address.
The normal suggestion when a printer stops maintaining a connection is to set a Static IP. This is done by using the manual IP feature you mentioned using. This locks the device to those network settings and even when the network is restarted the information is retained. This should be the fix to the issue.
    Hope this helps.

  • Enterprise Wireless Guest IP Address Management

    Hi
We have requirement to deploy wireless guest access for the Enterprise.
Would appreciate feedback as to wether to use internal DHCP which is  centrally managed or using WLC DHCP.
    Some Considerations
    1.     IP Address reporting historical on number of addresses used, this could be provided by the guest access server on users logged or can WLC
             provide historical IP address reporting
    2.     Centralised address configuration versus distributed on each controller.
    3.    Correlating guest user to IP address allocated, we need to use this for forensic identification of the IP address to the user as guest access will be authenticated via the Radius server and from there access the Internet via a transparent proxy. No requirement for second authentication when accessing the Internet.
Any feedback on real world experiences would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Bill

  • Keep losing my wireless and mac addresses wont hold

For some reason, i could not delete or add any mac addresses to the aebs, which i have been using for the past couple years, so i did a hard reset on the unit. Now i have not added any security yet and the aebs keeps dropping my wireless connections. Any ideas?

To perform a Factory Default Reset......
Pull the power plug from the back of the AirPort Extreme
    Wait 2-3 minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it for 10-12 seconds while you plug the power back in to the Extreme
Release the reset button after the 10-12 hold period and allow 25-30 seconds for the Extreme to come back up to a slow blinking amber light
Before you start to reconfigure the Extreme again, power down your modem for 5-10 minutes, then restart it.

  • Wireless Build - IP Addressing

I'm about to commmence the deployment of 4 x 4402-50 WLCs and 170 Access Points into a 3 storey building, and have a couple of questions around the IP addressing, which I'd like to clarify with those more knowledgeable than I.
Current plan is to install each WLC using LAG, and create a Management and AP Manager on each device from within the same subnet. All good so far. My query comes when connecting the Access Points on an IP level. From what I've read, clients connecting to the APs will connect to the network on an address within the same vlan as the Access Point connects, so if I were to connect the APs to the WLCs on the same vlan as the Mgmt/AP Managers are configured within, I'd need quite a large vlan (WLCs + APs + DHCP Scope for clients) to accomodate everything. Correct?
Moving forward, I think a solution would be to create the the Mgmt/Ap Manager in Vlan A, then add the Access Points (and DHCP Scope) within another vlan, lets say vlan B, for all the APs across the building. Whilst this scenario may work, I'd again end up with quite a large vlan, probably a /22 in trying to accomodate all the Access Points and DHCP scope for all the wireless clients.
The solution that seems to fit best, would again be to create all the Mgmt/Ap Manager interfaces within a single vlan, then create a vlan for each floor of the building (3 in total) for the Access Points/wireless clients within that floor, in effect, cutting down on the size of the vlans required. In this scenario, I'd then be able to use mobility groups on the WLCs, to allow for roaming throughout the building.
Obviously, going with either of the last 2 options, I'd need to look at DNS/DHCP in order to have the Access Points initially register with the WLCs.
    Thoughts appreciated on the above
    TIA.

    I would also further add:
    Network Design
These are the best practices for network design:
Limit the number of access points per VLAN. A good number is around 60 to 100 if you use a later code version. This helps to minimize reassociation problems in case of network failure. Cisco IOS based APs can be deployed on higher densities subnetworks. Always make sure that the underlying layer 2 and layer 3 topology is properly configured (spanning tree, loadbalancing, etc).

  • Need HELP! connecting to wireless network; IP Address problems!

I am trying to connect to wireless networks using the AirPort built into my MacBook Pro. There are two specific networks I am trying to connect to, both are WEP protected. I know the passwords and can get into each of them but I cannot connect to the internet, which is the main reason for connecting to them in the first place! When I go into System Preferences and click on Network, I see that next to AirPort it says I am connected to the network but may not be able to connect to the internet because my computer has a Self Assigned IP address. I assume this means my computer is not receiving an IP address from the network. I am set on full auto with DHCP. So what's wrong? Please Help!!!

That indicates that the MacBook Pro did not successfully communicate with the DHCP server on the network. Do those networks have access control (MAC address filtering) enabled? If so, the best solution is to reconfigure the base station so that this feature is disabled. This adds no real security since MAC addresses are easily discovered and cloned.
If you can't disable access control, you will need to add the MAC address of the wireless interface of your MacBook Pro to the list of allowed clients.

  • X1000 stops giving out Wireless DHCP IP addresses

I have 2 X1000 switches, the prmary switch, IP, 192.168.1.1 connects to my ADSL line upstairs and handles all DHCP..
My second router is downstairs and has been configured as 192.168.1.2, there is a LAN cable running from a LAN port of the primary router to the secondary router. Any device that I connect to the second router via the LAN ports works perfectly. However, when I connect a wireless device, the first time it works,If I then disconnect from the second router and reconnect I connect to the wireless network, but I cannot get an IP.
I've gone through posts here and reset to defaults and reconfigured according to the posts, the problem persists.
Router 1 - Works perfect, no problems
    Router 2 - IP 192.168.1.2
Router 2 is configured as Ethernet
    different SSID to router 1
    different channelto Router 1
I've turned off internet filtering and the firewalls to see if that would make a difference, no change.
It's really strange as DHCP works perfect via an ethernet connection to Router 2, but wifi only works once, thereafter you connect to the wifi fine, but the wifi device never gets an IP Address. I've checked for new fw and there is only version 1 available and I have already gone back to factory defaults and re-setup the router.

yesterday we bought 2 x1000 and I tried to configure as wireless router. our network has only one dhcp server and network gateway and its ip is 192.168.1.234
I configured x1000 as router,  its ip as 192.168.1.16, dhcp relay mode,  relay server address: 192.168.1.234
then I tried to connect using my smartphone, but it never gets an ip number.
after first unsucsessful connection try, I downloaded firmware and flashed the x1000
    but no change

Be sure to avoid IP address conflict. If you are to configure the X1000 with an IP address of 192.168.1.x, plug the cable from the modem to any of the LAN ports of the X1000. If you are to configure the X1000 with an IP address of 192.168.x.x, plug the cable from the modem to the Internet port of the X1000.

  • Wireless printer IP address not found online

I have an HP 4630 all in one printer installed wirelessly.  It has been working fine for 3 months.  As of 4 days ago I could print wirelessly from all my computers no problem.  Now I can't.  After over an hour of troubleshooting - unplugging everything, disconnecting then reconnecting to my network, etc. I'm still having the same problem.  The last thing I tried was typing my printer's IP address into the internet web browser.  I get an "oops, can't find it" message.  Can anyone help me with this?  I have not made any changes to anything - it all of a sudden doesn't work.  Weird...Thanks in advance!

Rebooting the router and unplugging everything and then starting it all backup again worked!  Thank you for suggesting that. When reading the troubleshooting document you attached it doesn't lead you to addressing the router if the printer is staying connected to the network - at least that's how I read the troubleshooting instructions.  So thank you for not giving up with me.  I had unplugged my modem but not my router in my initial troubleshooting.  I also unplugged my router before I read your additional instructions but that didn't work.  For some reason you have to unplug everything and start it back up in the just the right order.  technology...anyway, thank you so very much!!!

  • Connecting to wireless using WEP address

I haven't been using my macbook pro for even a week now and I am already beyond frustrated with it. I'm trying to get it connected to the wireless internet at my house but neither my mbp or my ipod touch will connect via the WEP code I have. We have a linksys router in the house which is connected to my mom's pc and two other pc laptops as well as my sister's ipod touch that are all able to connect to the wireless without a problem. I've read almost every post concerning the same issue, have looked everywhere online and I've tried all of the advice, yet I still cannot obtain an internet connection. My mpb shows that I have internet signal to my family's wireless network but there is also something that says "alert: no internet connection". I have run out of new things to try, so please help!

Thus far I have tried putting a dollar sign in front of the key and i've also tried putting a 0x in front as I read on another post and neither have worked. I have also fooled around with the aiport settings. My computer says that the aiport does not have an IP address and cannot be connected to the internet. However, it does show that the aiport is on and I have signal from my home wireless. The key has both letters and numbers and I entered it with either all lowercase or uppercase letters, but neither of them connect successfully. In my network preferences my router does not have any numbers paired with it as well. I have successfully connected to the internet at a friend's house with no problem but I am unable to do so at my own house.

  • WRT54GC will not give wireless clients IP addresses

Hi, I'm here on a behalf of a friend. I'm working on a WRT54GC wireless router. The issue is that any wireless client wishing to connect to the router (after seeing the SSID) always fail at "Waiting for network" during the connection screen. However, wired clients are able to connect without any problems. I have updated the firmware to the latest one. No security features (WEP/WPA) are enabled. I have tried changing the channel and mode to no avail. MAC address filter is disabled. Wireless card drivers are up to date. I'd like to know what can be done to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance. -Keres

In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off the software firewall, including Windows Firewall, and see it this helps.
Also, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
If you still have trouble, in the computer, go to the wireless adapter software, and go to "Preferred Networks"  (sometimes called "Profiles" ), and delete all the networks you find.  Reboot computer.  Then return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your unique network SSID, and set it to "automatic login".  Reboot computer.  You should connect automatically.
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.

  • Wireless router hardware address and SSID Info

I am looking for any information about the iphone 3Gs saving hardware address when saving wireless networks. I have not been able to find any information on this subject. I know that the phone does, i just need a technical reference. Thank you in advance for the help.

My issue is more of a enterprise problem. That is why I wanted technical documents. Our SSID "test" is broadcasted from 1-20 routers per building. The phone will not connect to a new AP without reentering SSID. which then the user has to reenter access info. I am trying to get a answer on the OS using hardware address to prove why they have to keep reentering the SSID and access info.

  • Wireless/airport/IP address problem- please help

I have a Powerbook G4, and have recently set up a wireless system in my apartment. When I open the network connection, I'm told that Airport has a strong signal, is connected to my wireless network, and is connected to the internet- yet I can't actually get on the internet or use any program that requires internet access. Can you please help me figure out what settings I need to change to get this to work?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Here is the only way I have gotten it to work. No one has provided a better answer and no one has provided a reason why this fails for so many people. This is a pain in the butt, but it works...
    Unplug your laptop
Take out the battery (i use a penny as the key)
Push and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds
    Put the battery back in
    Plug back in if necessary
Turn on the computer and you should be able to connect.
Unfortunately, I have to do this EVERY time I open the laptop and want to access the internet. HORRIBLE!

  • Airport not allowing wireless at new address

Ok...have a question. I have an airport express which has been working fine at MY house with my internet service. I sometimes used to take the airport to my mums on the weekend and it worked fine there too with HER internet service. I have now cancelled MY service and have moved home with her and now for some reason my airport won't let me go wireless in her house! When I plug in the ethernet cable to my airport it shows me all the bars saying I have service and even lets me play itunes to a set of remote speakers....just wont let me connect to the internet. I can only connect to internet by plugging the ethernet into the computer itself. Any ideas?

It's possible that the configuration profile(s) on your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) got "messed up." I suggest performing a "factory default" reset on your AX, and then, use the AirPort Admin Utility or AirPort Setup Assistant to configure it for your mom's ISP service.

second, is my IP address visible to others on the web

    connection instead of mine?
I'm not sure you understand the concept of 'your IP address.'
If you use someone elses wireless connection, almost certainly you will get a ssigned a private (rfc 1918) IP address by their router, and that wireless router will be providing the internet via NAT (network address transalation). IOW, you make a web request, the router changes your private IP address into its public one, waits for the reponse, then sends it back to your private address....So, in that scenario...what do you consider 'your' IP address ?
The wireless routers IP address will be known, yes. Anyone with access to the logs on that wireless router will see your MAC address, and see that you have been assigned an IP address, and have accessed the router ( assumeing they know how to read thier logs.) But no one on the internet should be able to tell that your computer made a particular request from behind that wireless router...there is nothing identifying you in that request that goes out into the internet.
So, perhpas I have the scenario wrong, but if not, I hope that answers your concerns.

  • Deskjet 3050 j610a - New router; no longer can print wireless.

Hi all. Am 66 & new to computers and forums. I'll try to be brief, but I want to describe my problem as accurately as possible. I have a Toshiba C655 Satellite laptop, HP3050 j610a wireless printer, Windows 7 – 32bit OS and Google Chrome is my browser. For the past 2 years I've had no problem printing wireless with my Westell 7500 router. Then my ISP (Verizon) gave me a D-Link 2750B. My laptop connects with the internet over my wireless network fine now, but printing is only possible via USB.
The error message reads: “Your printer failed to join the wireless network – Mac address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router”. (I checked & it is not). I then printed a Wireless Network Test Report and the header reads: “Your HP printer cannot find your access point. Check that your access point is powered on. Check that your HP printer network name (SSID) matches your access point network name (SSID) exactly. If they don't match exactly, run the wireless network setup to configure your HP printer”. In addition, under Diagnostics Summary it reads: “Network Name (SSID) Found = FAIL”.
What I've attempted so far: Uninstall & reinstall all HP software (Via hp website), power cycle router & printer, hard reset printer to factory settings, looked inside router & all seems OK. I did a Google search of this problem and got more confusing and complicated explanations than I was looking for...all the way down to subnet masks; whatever that is. I'm at the point now (and please correct me if I'm on the wrong path) I feel I should be trying to manually put the network info into the printer or obtain a printer IP; neither of which I know how to do.  Is there a way to look inside my printer settings the same as I look inside my router settings...and how?
I feel this has gotten way more complicated than necessary and I am probably overlooking the obvious here. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, but please reply to me as if I were in the 3rd grade ! (Although a 3rd grader would probably have figured this out already) !
    Thanks,

OK,PrintDoc, I followed your instructions to the letter....although I had gone there many times before.  If you want, I can list each and every step, but to summarize:  Message says, 'software installed successfully", I allowed Network Setup to retrieve my wireless settings (by the way my security is WPA2[AES] ) then the green 'loading' bar for 'setting up printer on network'.
THIS is the where I get to the point at which I get the error message:  "Your printer failed to join the wireless network".  (Tried both letting the program retrieve the settings, as well as entering them manually).
I did, however, notice one thing different this time:  Where the icon of my laptop showed under devices, this time there was an '!' enclosed in a triangle, indicating some problem.  I opened it up and ran the Troubleshooter, and received the following messages:  "Device driver software was not successfully installed, *No driver found, Problem not fixed".  I remember seeing this once before in my numerous attempts to get my printer on the network.
However, a previous message said the software WAS, in fact, installed successfully....and when I took a look at my installed programs, it sure looked like it was.
Once again, a big 'thank you'.
    Larry
