Wireless install of HP C4780 on Mac running OS 10.9.2

I have a C4780 that I can't get the wireless connection working.  Via USB, its OK, but want the wireless to work as well.  I've already taken the following steps:
1) Update HP software via Apple Sortware update (i have version 2.16.1)
2) I've run a network config page and I don't have a valid SSID
3) I've looked under my Mac's airport, and I don't see the HP printer listed there
4) I've reset the wireless using the printer's buttons
5) I've tried using the HP setup utlity but after selecting the device to install and pressing "continue" is just sits there - no messages or anything - it just sits there
6) I've gone under the printer's options and selected "WPS" and tried to connect - it only times out after a few minutes
7) The other wireless in the house is OK - no issues with any other devices.
So any suggestions on how to get a SSID on the printer

Hi PJH477,
I see you are struggling to get the printer on your wireless network. I can help.
This printer does not have a wireless wizard build into the front panel instead we would typically connect a USB cable from the printer to the computer and run the setup assistant.
Because you  have 10.9 on the Mac, there is no full feature software and drivers, thus you will not have the setup assistant we need to configure the printer. You may be wondering now, well how can I set it up then?  Good question, we are going to restore the printers network back to default and the printer will have its own IP address designed for whats called an Ad Hoc connection (network without a router). We will put the computer on the printers network, and then print a report to get the printers IP address. At this point we can access the embedded web server (EWS) and run the wireless wizard from there. Once the printer is on the home network with the router we can put the computer back on the network and vuala the printer and computer will both be on your network.
To restore network defaults
Press the Scan button (it also the Wireless menu button)
Select Wireless Settings
Scroll down and select Restore Network Defaults.  Press Yes to acknowledge
The radio will turn off (the blue LED will go out).  Select Enable Wireless
Put the computer on the printers network (temporary)
1. Click on the Airport symbol on the top left side of the Mac screen
2. Choose the network that look relative to the printer (might say HP setup or some variation)
Print the wireless network test
Press the Scan button (it also the Wireless menu button)
Select Wireless Settings
Navigate to Wireless test and select.
The Wireless Network Test prints, look for and note the IP address.
Open an internet broswer (Safari) and enter the IP address into the URL (address bar).
Click on the newtork tab, on the left click on wireless or 802.11.
At this point we are looking fore "start wizard" should be on the right hand side.
Once we have successful configured the printer for your network you can put your computer back on your own network.
Now you can add the printer to the System Preferences and print

  • Problems printing color on C4780 on Mac running 10.10.3 OS

I had a new C4780 sitting in our closet (unused since we got it free several years ago when buying an iMac) and just hooked it up to my Mac running 10.10.3.  I am unable to print in color.  It copies in color.  When looking on System Preference/Printers and Scanners there are no options for color vs B&W.  Similary, when viewing the Details in the dialogue box for printing there are no Color vs B&W options. Any clues?

Hi,Try resetting the printing system as following:*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
    Select Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets. Next update your system as following to ensure the latest drivers database persists:Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to your Mac or to the same network.
Click the Apple icon, then select About This Mac.
Click on Software Update, then click the top Store menu of the shown window and click on Reload Page.
Be sure to install any available update. Finally go to Printers & Scanners and click the plus sign.Select the listed printer, click the Use drop down menu and select the printer model instead the default AirPrint option. Confirm any prompt and now try printing using the newly created print queue. Please let me know of any problem,Shlomi

  • Unable to install version 4.0 on Mac running 10.4.11, left with nothing after 3.6 was removed

I am working on a Mac running OS 10.4.11. I was fat and happy running FF 3.6, but received a notification advising that an update was available. I dutifully clicked on the link, and downloaded vs. 4.0. It wiped out what I previous had as it began to update, but the app icon had the circle with diagonal bar across, and cannot be installed. I have tried to install from scratch over and over, but same result. I'm hosed, and thus, extremely ticked since it appears I have lost all my history and bookmarks.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • How can I install Appleworks on a new Mac?

I've been using Macs since 1993, and have a lot of old files in Appleworks format. Whilst I now use Office and iWork '08, I'd be lost without Appleworks for many old files. Is it possible to install Appleworks on a new Mac, running Leopard? I hope to replace my laptop soon, but the fact its been discontinued has put my off for now. Any help gratefully received!

You can install AppleWorks 6.2.4 or AppleWorks 6.2.9 on your new Mac, using an install disk that has an OS X installer. (Installers prior to mid 2001 ran in Mac OS 9, and although the version of AppleWorks they install will likely run on Tiger or Leopard, the installer won't.)
Getting hold of a retail version may prove a bit difficult, as Apple is no longer supplying it to retailers. Hard Core Mac was reported recently to have install disks containing AppleWorks 6.2.4, and AW 6 does come up occassionally on eBay and other similar sites.
If the laptop you are replacing contains AppleWorks, you can transfer the application to your new machine by simply moving the whole AppleWorks 6 folder and its contents into the Applications folder on the new machine. Doing this via a CD will give you a backup copy should you ever need to reinstall the application. AppleWorks will create any other required files and folders as it needs them. Note that the usual single user licence allows for only a single copy of the application to exist on a single computer at a time. After moving the AW 6 folder to the new machine, you should delete it from the old to stay within the terms of the licence.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • I have a Mac running 10.9.2. My wireless mouse with not scroll in mail but works fine in other applications? Any suggestions?

I have a Mac running 10.9.2. My apple wireless mouse will not scroll in Mail but works fine in other applications.
    Any suggestions?

First, see this discussion. If the solution suggested there doesn't work for you, continue.
If you've installed a Mail plugin called "Mail Unread Menu" and you know how to remove it, please do that, then quit and relaunch Mail. Test. Otherwise, see below.
    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

I am trying to install a program on my Mac Book Pro Retina from a Apple SuperDrive. Every time I run the installer, it says I do not have enough memory to install. However, I definitely have enough memory (186.74 GB). The program takes only 550 MB. Any ideas why?

Thanks for the clarification on the terms. I consider myself proficent at my computer, but not exactly in its inner-workings! I have 8 GB of memory installed.
I am still confused as to why I do not have any space for the program. This is the exact error message I get: "There is not enough free space on Macintosh HD disk. The Print Shop 2 application requires about 550 MB to be installed. Free some disk space and try again."
Thank you again for your help.

  • How do I install OS 10.7 NOT 10.7.5 on a mac running Snow Leopard 6.8  i.e. where can I find the original install app for Lion OS 10.7.0?

I'm running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard fine on my MacPro1,1, Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2.66 GHz  Mac, but I need to install Lion 10.7.0 to run a program I need. How do I install OS 10.7 NOT 10.7.5, because I get this message when I try to install 10.7.5, which I've downloaded:"This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7." on a mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, So i need to install the original 10.7.0 over the 10.6.8  i.e. where can I find the original install app for Lion OS 10.7.0? The original Lion 10.7. is not avaialable for purchase from the App store or anywhere,  even C-Net . Where can I find it to purchase?
Also it seems I cannot install Mountain Lion over 10.6.8 as advertised. When I go to purchase I get this message: "We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer."   I think my computer can handle it (specs above) Are there any workarounds to this?

If you're getting a "This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7" message, than you have the updater and not the full installer. Go to your Purchases section of the Mac App Store and you should see the full version there. But it may be 10.7.5, though in my system is shows as being from 2011 which would appear to be the original version.
As to Mountain Lion, that's supported only on the Early 2008 Mac Pro or newer.
    Regards.

  • Can I run OS 10.6.x in Paralleles installed on a Mac running OS 10.7.2?

Can I run OS 10.6.x in Paralleles installed on a Mac running OS 10.7.2?
This question is related to my need to continuing using Quicken 2005, which is not supported by OS 10 7.2.  If I could load Mac OS 10.6.8 into Parallels and run Quicken 2006 in an emulated version of Mac OS, I could then run 10.7.2 and move onto iCloud.  I've looked at a couple of altehrnaftves to Quicken 2005 but none are as comprehensive as Quicken.

    Hi John,
That is an interesting question, to which I don't know the answer. You might try it on a separate drive or partition and see how it works. I run Snow and Lion but on separate partitions on my internal HDD. If you try it please let us know how it works.
