  • T420 hyper-v does not install after windows 8.1 RTM

I am a developer and I had to upgrade my system to windows 8.1 RTM.
My machine was orginally windows 7, I upgraded to windows 8 and after a few patches and updates all was well. I ran hyper-v vms on my machine the last 1 1/2 year successfully. After the upgrade to 8.1 it would not install the hyper-v feature.
I verified after the install that my BIOS still had both virtualizaiton settings enabled.  i saw other posts that the issue could be attributed the network card, or video card, or USB 3 being enabled. I am suspecting network driver as I used to run CISCO VPN client 5.x on my windows 8. However, on windows 8 Cisco vpn client did not work if I used the wireless adapter. I got around that issue by using ShrewSoft VPN when I needed to use my wireless network adapter for VPN. Both completely stop working, and once uninstalled could NOT be installed again on windows 8.1 system.
I also saw that Lenovo may not release 8.1 drives until october, but I really need them now as I can't restore back to windows 8.0 because I need the 8.1 kernel for my work, but then I also need hyper-v to work as well. Any help or sugguestions are welcome.

My guess, you have not seen the threads and posts about Windows 8 on here before posting. There are no stuck threads and people tend to not look or when they do not find threads that are helpful (try search and "month" means "Aug" not the last 30 days and it is harder now to do searches than it use to be or than just using Google!
Common issues? Trouble just downloading drivers. Burning ISO. Using external USB-DVD or flash installer drive. Lack of internet access!! audio, graphic drivers, graphic switching between Intel and ATI.

when trying to launch the "Boot Camp Control Panel", but I just stumpled upon a solution.
I created a new Windows user, that was not Administrator. When I logged in Boot Camp updateded something and asked me to restart the computer.
After restarting and logging in with my new user, I could start the "Boot Camp Control Panel" configure tap to click and use F1-F12 as function keys.
Then I changed the new account to Administrator and now the control panel can not be startet again... but my settings remained... only on the new user only though.
    ============
I had problems with windows 7 after the installation using boot camp. The GT 650M was not showing up as the graphics adapter. I fixed the problem by inserting my windows support software CD a second time. I did not let it use auto run.  I went into the Windows 7 directory and then into the Nvidia directory and ran setup.exe. This installed the Nvidia drivers for me. If this works correctly, you will have an Nvidia control panel available to you. I set the resolution to 2880x1800. I also set windows to 200% magnification.
I think what happens is that after you install windows, and then run the windows support CD, the main boot camp setup script seems to stop on the nvidia driver install--everything else installed correctly.

I did manage to make the trackpad work. You need to install trackpad++
(http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4967-trackpad-control-module.html), it will enable the trackpad driver on boot camp. After you install the trackpad++, trackpad++ will complain something. ingnore it.  You should be able to enable trackpad. And you can now even uninstall the  trackpad++, the trackpad will sill work.
brightness, what graphics card are you using? It might be due to the auto adjusting brightness running there. You can go to your power options, edit the one you are using  (Change plan settings >> Change advanced power settings) and look for Batteries >> Enable adaptive brightness and disable the one you are using. After that, the scrollbar for adjusting brightness in power options should work again.
HDMI audio in Windows 7 64 bit
reinstalled the Intel video drivers and audio worked immediately.

           .   .       upgrade to 8GB ram
Samsung 8000 series LED TV connected with HDMI
Memorex external BluRay writer(USB only power)
For Windows 7 install, I tried installing with the 64 bit DVD but this failed as documented elsewhere.
Instead, setup with USB drive, follow instructions available in bootcamp
After partitioning drive with boot camp and reboot, install Windows 7 with install wizard.
When asked whether to allow automatic updates say 'no', then complete installation and run boot camp tools for Windows.
Because the network driver gets installed prior to the Intel video driver, Windows will install the Windows Update Intel video driver which breaks HDMI audio.
When auto updates are off, the Intel video driver that is correct gets installed last.  HDMI audio works with this driver.
Apple should install the Intel video driver first and it would solve this problem.
I now have full blown 3D BluRay support on the MacMini with TruHD audio, fantastic!

After much testing, I have found the cause of lagging/jumpiness on the Bluetooth Magic Mouse and Magic TrackPad in Boot Camp. Hopefully this will help others:
The drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Adapter have a setting called "Bluetooth Collaboration" that is Disabled by default. Enabling this option removes the problem instantly. My Magic Trackpad now works flawlessly, even if I stand 6 metres from the machine. It now works just as well as under Mac OS. The setting can be found under:
Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter (right click and choose "Properties".
Under the "Advanced" tab, highlight the setting named "Bluetooth Collaboration", then change it to Enable. Then click OK.
I narrowed the problem down to the wireless card by disabling ALL startup services and processes for Windows, then re-enabling one by one.
As soon as I enabled the Windows Wireless Service, the problem came back.
Similarly, disabling the Wireless Card inside the Network and Sharing Center (or Device Manager) removes the problem.
This led me to believe it must be a driver issue with the wireless card, since the problem didn't occur with the Magic TrackPad under Mac OS, or on my mother's Windows 7 64-bit computer.
So when I went into the Driver Properties to check for an update, I found this setting about Bluetooth Collaboration.
All Apple notebooks use the Broadcom card (and have done for years), so this driver is installed for almost anybody using Boot Camp on an Apple notebook. I'd assume this problem would affect anybody using Boot Camp + wifi + a Bluetooth device.

Windows 8 to manage your mobile broadband use for you
    By Peter Bright
Windows 8 will contain built-in support for mobile broadband devices and smarter use of metered Internet connections, as detailed in the lastest post on Microsoft's Building Windows 8 blog.
Most 3G mobile broadband connections are subject to usage limits, and keeping track of data usage at the moment normally means running an application from the mobile operator, or even checking on their website. Windows 8 will have its own usage counters so that users can keep track of how much data they've burned through over the current billing cycle.
Windows 8's faster Wi-Fi connectivity, with hot spots being found and connected to in under a second, and its new support for Wi-Fi hotspots that use authentication portals. Instead of having to open a browser to enter a username and password, it will be possible to type credentials directly into Windows itself.
    How to view error message:
From Control Panel-> Admin. Tools-> Event Viewer-> Windows logs:
Check Application and System Folders for Red highlit messages. Note that you can right-click clear these log folders.
    Memtest
This is a step by step guide with audio and video to explain how to use memtest to see if your memory is defect:
Another thing to add is that some errors will not be found on the first pass, best to do at least 3 passes.
    http://www2.corsair.com/training/how_to_memtest/
Memory that "seems" to work in OS X (Lion, ML and earlier) but fails and does show errors with Windows and shows up in memtest - so don't trust your RAM just because it seems okay.

  • Creating an interface with several video windows where a user can connect their own camera to window

    Hi,
I posted this in the Flash Media Live encoder Forum and it may have been the wrong place to get an answer.
currently I use the following workflow for Live video streaming.
I have FMLE on a computer streaming the Video feed to my FMS.
I currenlty use  Dreamweaver to create window with a few instances of a video window and one of the windows is configured to rtmp to my server and the stream name of the stream I have setup in FMLE.
This then streams to one of the windows.
I then assign a different Stream name to the other windows.
I send an FMLE client to a user in the locations that want to have a video presence on the webpage.
I send them instructions and running FMLE and the parameters to use to get their camera up and running.
This works fine to a point.
Most of the users are not technically minded and so often this leads to issues and delays to get these things to work.
I want to move on and improve this flow.
I want to create the video instances on the page where:
Below each video window is a text input field where a user can type in their name which will be used as the stream name.
Below each video window is a button that the user clicks to connect their camera automatically without having to install FMLE.
Once the video feed is running, only that user can click the button again to disconnect it. ( The button changes to "Stop Broadcast" etc).
I have looked at the structure of Ustream for example, and this seems to be the method they use as you can download the XML file of your channe,l and the RTMP URL and stream name can be copied and then used directly in FMLE and you can stream with more control of your camera that way.
Can you please provide instructions or guidance on how to begin this process?
    thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for your interest in this kind of workflow.
There are multiple ways to do it. Adobe Connect does this seamlessly.
But to try out few of the latest technlogies, I recommend trying RTMFP. There is a hosted server where you can try out your sample client applications. There is also client application made similar to what you are looking for.

    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Officejet pro 8610 driver will not install on Windows 8.1. I am happy to help!
    A few questions for starters:
What happens when you try to install the driver?
Do you see any error messages?
How is your printer connected? Wireless, Ethernet, or USB?
Are you able to make copies with your printer?

Assuming your rig can support virtual machines, you can use Hyper-V and run another OS there.
Better practice however is to use a dedicated machine and use remote desktop to the server.

2011 MacBook Pro, 64 bit i7 quad core, upgraded to Lion OSx, Bootcamp installed with Windows 7, wanting to install Windows 8 (don't ask), tried downloading/installing bootcamp 5.0.5033 (both on the mac/windows partitions (actually using a parallel to run Windows)), error message something similar to bootcamp doesn't support this Windows
So the question is am I doing something wrong? Should I just try and install windows 8 through my windows 7 partition and see if I can use the bootcamp 5.05033. Or do I solely have to use the bootcamp to install Windows 8? I'm not too familiar with bootcamp and how it runs.

if you're using parallels and full bootcamp then you're making it 100% more troublesome for youself then it needs to be
bootcamp is running windows directly on the hardware this give full memory and cpu and 3d video game power
running windows in parallels is running a virtual machine where one can't run powerful games and the like but one can have it in a window and change fast between osx and windows
parallels as the only virutal machine (as far as I know) support not have the operating system as a file on the osx harddisk but can access a bootcamp parition as virtual machine but without the benefits bootcamps provides
it's a service parallels provide for those who want both to play games in normal bootcamp and sometimes use windows in a virutal machine
just install it like a normal virtual machine and you need not worry about bootcamp drivers and the likes
plus it would mean that the windows part would be a part of the timemachine bacup of osx
which it is not when it's in bootcamp

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard with Windows 7 on non Apple Hardware

    Good Day,
I love the Apple Wireless Keyboard and it's the on I use when using my Thinkpad laptop as a desktop, meaning connected to an external Monitor and with an external keyboard and mouse. The Keyboard I use is an Apple Wireless Keyboard.
On my MBA 13 I use Windows 7 as my OS and the Apple lyouted keyboard works actually quite well with windows: The function keys perform very much like in Mac OSX with the volume, screen brightness, the fn+left or right for "home" or "end" etc.
Not I bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard to use in conjuction with my Thinkpad but all does features are missing. I guess that this has to to that on the MBA 13 the appropriate drivers where installed when the whole Bootcamp Software package was installed.
Since I obviously cant install the whole Bootcamp CD on non Apple Hardware, is there any way to just download somewhere the drivers for Apple KEyboards so the behave the same way as they would on a Mac running Windows?
Or is there any other way I could use my Apple Wireless Keyboard with non Apple Hardware the same way it behaves on my MBA 13 running Windows 7? Can somwhere lolely the Apple Keyboard drivers be downloaded?
I want to thank anyone who is kind enough to help mme with this mather in advance and please leave out comments of the kind that I it's my fault, I should have bought an Apple machine from the beginning. I have my reasons and If anyone can't handle that I kindly ask you to just ignore this post unless it's constructive and helpful contribution

After 3 frustrating hours of trying every tip on the net, I found the answer: Try this.
"This finally fixed it for me: Device Manager - Open System Devices, you will find a Bluetooth HID Device. Double Click it, open Driver tab and click "Update Driver" Select Browse my Computer, then "Let me Pick". It should now show TWO compatible drivers with exactly the same name. One of them is the Microsoft one, one is the non-working Chinese ****. Install one of them and see if the driver properties changed to the right (Microsoft) driver. If not, try again with the other one. For me, the Microsoft driver was the first one in the list, but this may be different for you. Wow, an annoying and intense hour of trouble shooting finally over..."

The issue is related to the Chinese version of the driver that the latest windows update applies that stops the keyboard from working.
I'm typing this on the Apple Wireless Keyboard on Windows 7 64 bit on my PC. Finallly!

  • Getting the name of the installed video card

I'm trying to discover if exists any way in java to get the name (ATI, nVidia, Creative) and other properties (version, memory size,...) of the installed video card where the jvm is running.
    Thanks in advance,
    Joan

Definitely not directly with Java APIs....
    2 approaches...
    1. get another external program to do the work for you, and export it to a text file.
then you parse then text file.
On WinXP, there's a program called msinfo32.exe in
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo
type msinfo32 /? for a list of command line options.
Looks like you can route it to a text file.
    2. Write a low level JNI library in native Windows C++, which somehow finds that hardware specific information from the Windows API.
    regards,
    Owen

  • I installed Microsoft Windows 8.1 but i don't know which drivers to install.

Hi, the trial period of the windows 8.1 installed at my HP 14-d003tx Notebook PC expired already so I installed a new windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit OS. I went here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-14-Notebook-PC-series/6529958/model/6753958 to check the drivers to be installed but I got confused because I don't know which is which or which drivers I need to install in my laptop. For example, for the bluetooth and wlan drivers, there are 2 drivers to choose from, MediaTek(Ralink) 802.11 Wireless LAN (WLAN) Adapter and Mediatek 802.11 Wireless LAN Adapter Driver, same for the bluetooth and other drivers. Can you please assist me which drivers is compatible or which drivers do I need to install at my laptop? Or how will I know which drivers I need to install. Thanks!
